This was a wonderful introduction to Chinese history for me. As I’ve been spending more time learning about the language and culture, I wanted a clearer sense of the long historical arc that shaped such a vast and influential part of the world. This book offered exactly that.
The scholarship is evident throughout, but the prose remains accessible and engaging. Complex periods, political shifts, and cultural developments are presented in a way that feels approachable without sacrificing depth. For readers looking for an entry point into the immense sweep of Chinese history, this is an informative and rewarding place to start.

I love learning about history and this collection of books by Matt Clayton is so good, balancing info with interest and ease of reading. This one is the same as his others.
It offers a very brief run through of people and events of ancient China. However. I found this one to be a litte too brief. It featured a lot of different people that overlapped in parts, making it difficult to keep families and individuals organized in my head.

Ancient China is a perfect entry point for the curious and a delightful refresher for the history buff. It’s concise, engaging, and deeply respectful of its subject matter. By the time you finish, you don't just know the facts about Ancient China; you feel the weight of its incredible legacy.
An illuminating guide that proves the past is never truly "lost" if we know where to look.
