Chapter 83-84: yipeee!!, Sebastian fighting against Understaker. Meaning, knives and the death-scythe. The little secret is finally revealed, and it was creepy! I loved it, the secret society formed by these crazy prefects. So while the whole arc may not be among my favorites, the ending was really good. And it ends with Sebastian being awesome again, so…
Chapter 85: I absolutely loved this chapter. All good old characters are here: Agni, Soma, the house staff… and Sebastian's genius plan to advertize Funtom's new product was funny and clever. It was like re-reading the old chapters. Because the college arc feels somewhat like a bubble; everything is coming back to normal, having Ciel and Sebastian back home.
Chapter 86-87: Yipee! A new and very interesting arc. The whole team travels to German, to deal with a cursed forest, werewolves, a witch, a weird village… and Ciel struggling with his German! I love when he acts like a spoiled kid
Or I was missing KS madly, or this volume was really good. I laughed, I squealed like a fangirl, I even drooled a little bit. Only Grell was missing to make me the happiest fangirl ever. Anyway, I can't wait for the translation of the following volumes. Yana Toboso, you are the best
I forgot how much I love the art for this series. It really does improve with each volume. Story got interesting I guess. I don't know. With this series I either really like it in some parts or just like it in others. Still a good series.
Its getting complicated and dark like the beginning of the series! What does the undertaker have to do with everything? I can't wait til the next chapters.
This series is rated Older Teen. I know it is easy to think that a graphic novel would be appropriate for your kids but before you allow them to read Black Butler you should know it not only has strong language at times but revolves around a young man doing what has to be done for the queen of England. By his side is demonic butler Sebastian who will one day eat the young man's soul once the contract is completed but for now he is simply one hell of a butler.
This book satisfactorily ends the School arc whom we discovered the Undertaker was involved at the end of the last volume (if you haven't read it then stop right now and read as many of these books as you can because in my opinion it is a fantastic read. Even the slow stories have their own charms.) After we get all the answers to questions posed in the School arc we have a nice break in the action with an insight in the world of Ciel Phantomhive when he is not working as the Queen's watchdog. Finally the next arc is upon us already as the whole group finds themselves far from England and into Germany (Home of many fairy tales) to investigate a supposed witch curse killing people and the answers seem to be pointing to a village in a forest supposedly inhabited by werewolves but who or what they find you will have to read to know for sure. :)
My favorite part of the book would have to be in the break of the stories when Sebastian discovers Miss Irene Diaz (an opera singer introduced in the Phantomhive Manor Murders Arc) and helps her as only he can. Why did he help her you may ask since she has no real connection to the Phantomhives? Not gonna spoil it for you. :)
With this one, we end another storyline, and it was just so good to see Ciel in a school. Sometimes he can be so sweet, even without forgetting who and what he is. And then we get to see the beginning of a ner storyline, and I have to say that I am mighty intrigued! We would go to Germany, and we get werewolves, too. Oh my!
There are some very amusing gag moments 😂😂 But there are moment when Ciel is quite heartless (doesn’t care about Weston friends), yet goes to lengths to ensure his staff are cared for. Maybe it takes a lot to be his true friend ❤️

I really enjoyed this volume, it wrapped up the boarding school arc nicely and we got to see the Undertaker even if it was only for a short while. I loved the short filler before the beginning of the Emerald Witch arc, it really made me smile. The new arc is a lot more dark so far and I'm glad I've already got the next book to see what happens. I love the fact that I'm 18 volumes in and I still enjoy the stories and the characters, I hope the series continues for a good time yet. I still wish I had a Sebastian, just without the whole deal with a devil bit.
& so ends the boarding school story arch, sending us on a new adventure. Ciel & company are off to Germany to investigate a curse involving witches and a cursed forest of werewolves. Awesome, yes?
I liked the conclusion to the boarding school story. It was a pretty messed up reason, for all those kids to be missing. But I expect nothing less from my beloved black butler. >:) I like that the undertaker who were learned was actually a grim reaper a few books ago, is becoming a more permanent antagonist. What DOES he want with the Phantomhives!? The drawings of the fight scene were great to. & I love how the plot of this story was tied back to the zombies and the Aura Society.
The little filler chapter where they went shopping was just precious! XD everyone got a present! Just about the cutest thing ever! Ciel is such a little ass, but he does have a softer side. :)
The beginning to this werewolf/witches in Germany story seems pretty cool. I definitely liked the ending with the creepy village in the middle of the cursed forest. Very black butler. :)
I wasn’t a huge fan of the boarding school storyline that’s been taking place the last few books and this volume finally finishes that storyline up, which was awesome. It starts up a much more interesting storyline involving some haunted woods and a seemingly deadly plague. I am enjoying this new storyline a lot more and curious to see where it goes.
The illustration remains top notch and in this volume we get to go back to the Phantomhive Manor and see the wonderful staff. Between the two storylines there is a funny bit where the whole crew goes shopping which was very humorous.
Overall a great addition to the Black Butler series. I am still really enjoying this series a lot. I would recommend to those who enjoy historical paranormal manga. I look forward to seeing where this new storyline goes.
Undertaker v. Sebastian needs to happen ASAP. Both have such mysterious pasts that I want to know more about them. As for the expedition into the city was extremely cute. This new arc with the witches, cursed forest, werewolves?, people dying of a mysterious disease/curse, and more seems right up my alley. Looking forward to the next volume.
This one was okay. Honestly didn't care much for the school arc. Love every part with the Undertaker of course, but it just wasn't enough in this volume. After all that happened with him in the previous story arc this one kind of fell flat. Looking forward to the next arc though, don't remember the Emerald Witch at all.
The mystery of Weston College comes to a startling conclusion, but the Undertaker remains as mysterious as ever. What is his connection with the Phantomhive family? Is he a puppet, a puppetmaster, or both? What are his motivations?
Not allowing himself to be too distracted by these unanswered questions, Ciel returns home to do a round of shopping, only to get a rude awakening to the realities of marketing, before the Queen gives him another mission. It’s off to Germany, only this time the Earl Phantomhive is taking all of his servants with him to investigate a curse which may involve witches and werewolves. While he’s there, Ciel may have a chance to look up a ‘mysterious German beauty’, one with past ties to his father and Weston College. A beauty who might know more about the Undertaker than Ciel does…
Once more I found myself pitying Ciel’s victims in the story arc, although the ones at Weston College didn’t meet as harsh a fate as others the Queen’s Guard Dog has hunted down. They didn’t do anything worse than Ciel himself has done. I’m hoping we’ll see those characters again, along with the ones Ciel and Sebastian left behind at the prestigious public school. The new characters and the new story arc, however, promise to be interesting. I’m very curious about the “German beauty”, which appears to be a kind of code Vincent and Chlaus used for Diedrich amidst a delicate dance of diplomacy, intrigue, and power they had going on with him, one Ciel appears to be about to step in time with. Most intriguing of all is the Undertaker. He appears to be ally and enemy at the same time, yet he doesn’t appear to regard Ciel or the Phantomhives as enemies, even if they oppose his goals. He might be Sebastian’s enemy, though. The striking contrasts and similarities between the two of them were quite compelling. I look forwar to seeing where this complex adversity is going. The most powerful bond in this volume remains the one driving this entire series, the one between Ciel and Sebastian. This was depicted in exquisite intensity in the panels shown throughout the story.
For all of this, plus the conclusion of a particularly stunning storyline which opened up new mysteries, this gets four stars.

OK, this one was hard because since I can't really tell any of the boys apart, I was very vague on who was dead and who were the murderers, and which of these were zombies and which were trying to escape the zombies. I think I'm ready to go on the next adventure, where at least they won't all be wearing the same uniform so I'll have more clues to keep people separate. Because apparently having different hair, eyes, noses and faces is not a big help to me.
2 arcs that I'm not a huge fan of in a row. Oh well. I actually don't know how this one ends because I lost track of it when this one was first coming out. Maybe it's a fun ending like the last one
I was screaming throughout the entire volume! The plot just keeps getting better and better! This is definitely going to be a darker arc and I’m so ready.
this cover is GORGEOUS also very entertaining confrontation sequence that connected some threads between arcs, which I’ve been looking forward to seeing more of

Oh no, the new plotline will be taking place in Germany... Oh well if there is one thing in anime and manga that makes me uncomfortable then it's German culture what so ever... this is going to be a ride
Oh joy!!!! At last, vol. 20 is available, so readers have vol. 18-20, wrapping up the boarding school arc, and have two books in an exciting new arc!!!!
Boarding School Arc Wrap-Up:
The mysterious disappearances at the exclusive boys' school is quickly ended. Yana surprised me with the resolution -- it conveyed a kind of real-life lesson of principles vs. moral behavior. The usually-surly Edward's reaction, a sharp jolt of reality contrasted against one of his highest goals, touched me.
The biggest bolt of lightning that shocked my socks off was Queen Victoria's final comment, speculating about the idea of becoming allies with *no spoiler* "it would be quite splendid"!!!??? My jaw dropped at that, and Yana had my head spinning!!! WHAT????
Interlude - Shopping Trip:
Amusing and entertaining, as Sebastian, Ciel, Mey-Rin, Finny, Baldo and Snake visit various shops. Baldo's such a walking disaster, as a chef, and as a member of the household staff. If he's not concocting exploding eggs at Easter, he's showing Ciel a "Sexy Girl" magazine in a bookstore, which earns him a sharp scolding from Sebastian!! Too funny.
Sebastian requests a stop, which yields a surprising find in what may be a future arc - mysteries of previous generations of Phantomhives.
I laughed my way through Ciel's Funtom company's newest line, a perfume, with a silly and totally dumb choice as a mascot. Sebastian steps in to assist with a carriage wreck, and the shopping trip interlude/new Funtom perfume comes to an end with Sebastian's genius intervention. Too much fun, I laughed all thru this.
The Cursed Forest/Werewolf arc takes off, looks exciting!
