Broken Lies is book one in the second duet in the Mafia series. It is featuring Keiran Sullivan and Riley Walsh in an enemies to lovers, fake marriage, mafia romance. Haha on me that I didn't realize this was a duet until I FINISHED IT. Oops. I was so engrossed in the fast-moving story and the push and pull between Kieran and Riley. I saw that I only had a few chapters remaining and was wondering how it was going to be wrapped up. That's because it didn't! We are left on a very big cliffhanger between Kieran and Riley, and I need to know what happens.

I listened to this book narrated in duet by James Cassidy and Heather Firth. Flawless. Wonderful. They had me so engrossed in the story and before I knew it, I was halfway done. I need to listen to the next book!

“Broken Vows” is the third book in “The Sullivan Mafia Series” and yes, it ends on a cliffhanger. This is the first book in the second duet, featuring an arranged marriage between Kieran and Riley….enemies to lovers tension, revenge, and dangerous obsession. Kieran Sullivan is the second son and his brother Ronan relies on him now that taken over as head of the Sullivan Irish Mob after their father was recently assassinated. “Every bruise, every cut, every bullet hole, I wore them with pride because Ronan and I were a family. A team.”

Riley is twenty three years old and attending Columbia College. On returning home to the family estate, she overhears her brother and uncle deciding her future, by marrying her off to Sean O’Keefe, who is over fifty years old….more than double her age. “She doesn’t need to know until it’s done. He’s prepared to sign off on the alliance this week. He’s got the manpower we need, and with him behind us, the Sullivans will fall.” Her brother and uncle are plotting to sell her like I’m a piece of property, a commodity, she has no choice but run….Taking hidden documents from her deceased father’s study that will provide dirt on Sean O’Keefe involving surveillance footage and photocopies of dirty transactions….but it needs to be in the right hands….Ronan Sullivan.

During the middle of the night, Kieran is woken up by his brother Ronan knocking at his front door. Totally unimpressed with being disturbed at this time of night….”Beside him stands a girl with messy auburn curls and bright green eyes that I would recognize anywhere. Declan Walsh’s daughter.”

Riley has always been a mystery, and not one he particularly cared to solve….until Ronan gives him no choice, she is to stay with him overnight. Kieran is fuming and it is suspicious of her reasoning and she hits back….”I can’t just sit back and be handed off like some breeding mare to a man twice my age just because my uncle wants to win a war." The main requirement at the moment is to protect her….the solution to her problem is for them to marry one of the brothers. Kieran is nominated….”By marrying you, it not only gets Riley out of the arrangement with Sean, but it also signals to him that we’re onto him. It’ll rattle him and give us the upper hand in taking him down.”

The story is full of passion, humor, intrigue, betrayal, vengeance, power, control, twists and turns around every corner - most of all love ♥️ There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! The book goes from pages that sizzle, to extreme violence, to the most beautiful tender moments! You will fall in love with Kieran and Riley hoping that everything with work out for them and if they have a future together.

“It takes me a second to register that she’s standing in front of me and that her hands are on my face and her lips are on mine. But then her tongue licks along my bottom lip, and heat rushes through my body that snaps me out of my rage. She reaches up onto her tiptoes and kisses me. My arms instinctively snake around her waist, pulling her flush against my body as I deepen the kiss.”

Kieran and Riley’s relationship starts as a marriage of convenience and very quickly develops into more. I love these two characters - things heat up very quickly. The story is full of passion, intrigue, betrayal, vengeance, power, control, twists and turns around every corner. There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! The book goes through moments of the thoughts or possibilities that it could happen to, to extreme violence to the most beautiful tender moments! I’m very happily hooked! I did not want it to end! From page to page, chapter to chapter, I could not put it down - you will metaphorically be on the edge of your chair! Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

Kira Cole’s Broken Lies isn’t trying to be polite, and that’s exactly why it works.

At its core, this book is about control: who has it, who loses it, and what people will do to get it back. The story drops you into a world where trust is already cracked, and instead of slowly building tension, it keeps tightening the screws. There’s no clean line between right and wrong here, just people making decisions they’ll have to live with (or try to outrun).

What stands out immediately is the emotional volatility. The relationships aren’t soft or idealized, they’re messy, reactive, and at times uncomfortable in a way that feels intentional. Cole leans into power dynamics and vulnerability without sanding down the edges. Some readers will love that rawness; others might find it intense. Either way, it doesn’t leave you indifferent.

The pacing is aggressive. This isn’t a slow burn, it’s more like controlled chaos. Twists come fast, sometimes faster than you expect, and while not all of them are shocking, they keep the narrative moving. You’re not reading this to admire the prose; you’re reading to see what happens next, and how bad it’s going to get before it gets better (if it does at all).

Where the book really lands is in its ability to make you question motives. Nobody feels entirely clean. Even when you think you understand a character, Cole shifts the ground just enough to make you reconsider. That tension, between what’s said and what’s hidden, is the engine of the entire story.

That said, it’s not without tradeoffs. At times, the intensity can border on repetitive, and if you’re looking for deep introspection or layered world-building, this isn’t that book. It prioritizes emotional impact and momentum over subtlety. For this genre, that’s a deliberate choice, and mostly the right one.

Bottom line: Broken Lies knows exactly what it is and doesn’t apologize for it. It’s sharp, fast, and emotionally charged. If you’re looking for a polished, reflective read, this won’t be your lane. If you want something that pulls you in, keeps you slightly off balance, and doesn’t let up, this delivers.

Kira Cole’s Broken Lies is a fast-paced, high-stakes introduction to the second duet in the Sullivan Mafia series, and it is every bit the dark, twisted rollercoaster fans have been waiting for. The story follows Riley Walsh, a college student determined to leave her mafia upbringing behind, only to discover her family intends to sell her into an arranged marriage with a monstrous man double her age. Desperate to escape, Riley flees to the only place her family wouldn't dare look: the doorstep of their sworn enemies, the Sullivans.

She arrives with a dangerous bargaining chip—evidence regarding the murder of the Sullivan patriarch—offering the information in exchange for protection. This leads to a forced-proximity fake marriage with Kieran Sullivan, the "grumpy" second son who trusts Riley about as far as he can throw her. The tension between them is a classic enemies-to-lovers delight, simmering with a "touch-her-and-die" energy that makes the pages sizzle. Kieran is the ultimate morally grey antihero, and his internal battle against his growing feelings for the woman he’s supposed to be merely "using" is captivating.

The plot is a tantalizing blend of romantic suspense, Irish mafia politics, and non-stop twists. Just as the lines between their fake arrangement and real passion begin to blur, the stakes are raised even higher by a surprise pregnancy that threatens to upend Kieran’s structured, violent world. Cole masterfully balances extreme violence and power plays with beautiful, tender moments, ensuring there is never a dull second as the mystery of the Sullivan murder unfolds.

The audiobook experience is absolute perfection, featuring a dual-POV narration by James Cassidy and Heather Firth. Their performances bring an incredible depth to Kieran’s rugged authority and Riley’s fierce resilience, making the "grumpy x grumpier" dynamic feel authentic and urgent. Between the combustible chemistry and the pulse-pounding drama, this story keeps you transfixed from start to finish. It concludes on a mind-blowing cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for the conclusion in Bound Lies.

I love my mafia romances and this one did not disappoint. Kira Cole is amazing!

This is book 3 of the Sullivan Mafia Series and it was a thrill ride. I was forewarned it would end on a cliff hanger but still wasn’t prepared for the jump.

Kieran Sullivan is the muscle of the family. He is broody, and resentful and cocky and has a mouth on him. But he gets the job done so his family deals with his less friendly traits. I really didn’t expect to see such a big transformation out of him in this book or the fact that his older brother Ronan would lean so heavily on him. Kieran can come off as a bit like the whiny middle child.

Riley Walsh is on track to make a life for herself outside the mafia, with just this last year of college before she finishes her degree and goes to work for a Forbes 500 company. But her family has other plans that include marrying her off to a horrible older man for the sake of manpower. But she won’t go, and decides to take her life in her own hands and runs for shelter with the one family no one would think to look for her. But can she accept the terms the Sullivan are laying down to provide her safety?

This was an arranged marriage that didn’t happen only to turn around for another arranged marriage to happen. The fake marriage that turned out to be not so fake.

I loved the dynamic between these two. They are both bull headed, strong willed and determined to push the others buttons.

The spice level was off the charts hot and the mafia parts were everything I expected.

The cliff hanger is awful but in the best way and I can’t wait for book 4.

What I liked about this book: I liked Kieran. He’s a very complicated character, what with being the second son and always feeling like he’s competing but never measuring up. I felt like the emotional and mental depth was outstanding.
What I didn’t like: Riley had the emotional intelligence of a 16-year-old. She kept either shutting Kieran out or running away. This would not normally be a dislike for me, because Kieran did his share of acting like a concussed lamb when it came to their relationship. But although I liked Riley, and thought her to be smart and capable (coming up with blackmail material on Sean and taking it to the Sullivan was brilliant), I didn’t feel like her emotional depths were plumbed enough to make me not roll my eyes every time she leapt to a wrong conclusion.
Overall: I thought this was a good book with a compelling plot. Although the characters could be frustrating, I was fully engaged with them, and that’s a sign of good writing.
Cat’s Stats
Heat- explicit. Virgin heroine.
Bechdel test- failed. Lucy had a very one track mind at the beginning (parties and men, after studying), and then she served as an emotional support for Riley, who needed to talk about Kieran. And Riley’s conversation with Ciara always came around to the Sullivan men, sooner or later.
Safety? Y. Kieran is definitely a REFORMED man Ho-Ho-Ho.
Triggers- graphic violence, language
Tropes- Arranged Marriage, Attempted Forced Marriage, Mafia Princess, Simply Mad About the Mob, Look- Elvis!, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Enemies to Lovers, Fake Relationship, Marriage of Inconvenience.

4.5 ⭐️ (rounded up to 5!!)

This is my favorite book in the series so far! Riley, a mafia princess, is set to marry a much older man in an arranged marriage. However, she wants to take her life into her own hands instead of being handed off to a high bidder. The only way out she sees is through the help of her arch enemy, Kieran Sullivan. But it turns out the Sullivans need her help as well, leading to Riley and Kieran entering into a mutually beneficial fake marriage. She narrowly escapes a forced arranged marriage...only to enter into a fake marriage of her own choosing.

Of course, things aren't that simple, and they quickly start to realize they might not hate each other as much as they thought, and their marriage might not be as fake as they planned.

I really loved Kieran and Riley's relationship development. Even if the circumstances are a bit extreme and the stakes are high, their connection felt really authentic. These are two very strong and stubborn main characters, but their push and pull dynamic was perfect.

I loved how Kira balanced the mafia elements, character relationships, and family dynamics.
It had the perfect amount of each. The short chapters made this so quick to read and really propelled the story forward because I needed to know what would happen next. The spice was added in perfectly to enhance Kieran and Riley's relationship without sacrificing any of the plot.

And the cliffhanger at the end...speechless. I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on book #4.

Omg this is my favourite book of the series so far! I loved both the main characters and the supporting characters were entertaining as well. I adore the way our author writes the characters, she gives them depth and the most beautiful personalities that make us readers fall in love with them or not like them initially and then love them so much. This was me in this book, I loved the fierceness and loyalty to the family that was Kieran, his stubbornness in not wanting to trust Riley after all she is their sworn enemies daughter! Why would she come to them with a story like she had, but he eventually agreed to the fake marriage but that didn’t mean he had to like it, but he wished she would wear more clothes walking around his apartment, her gorgeous curvy body is driving him crazy! Riley, almost finished her first year of college, hates the way Kieran calls her princess, she is definitely not a spoiled princess, she is determined to get her degree and work in a Fortune 500 company and leave this Mafia background behind her. It’s so hard being in the same apartment as Kieran he is super hot, he has the body of a runway model and oozes sex appeal, the chemistry between them is explosive. She came off so childish initially but eventually came into her personality in meeting other characters and her relationship with Kieran grew.
I can’t wait to read the next instalment to see what happens straight on from the cliffhanger.

Riley is being sold off to the highest bidder by her brother & uncle to keep their family name alive. Only Riley didn't know until she overheard a conversation between her old brother & Uncle. Riley does what any woman in her situation would do & that's run to the enemy. Kieran doesn't like many people but he definitely does like Riley or what he assumes Riley is like. He doesn't do relationships, doesn't do comfort, & definitely doesn't do complicated! Thats all until Riley is dropped into his apartment & his very structured life. These two are definitely enemies to lovers but enemies with a wonder eye & imagination. These two have been through so much both past & present. What they don't realize is how perfectly they complete each other. Too bad family Mafia drama has to disrupt their lives. I'm not normally one for cliff hangers but this one seems needed; you go back threw the last 3 books & start to try to piece everything together. Very excited to see what happens between Kirean & Riley but also if they find cormac....is he real threat thats been in the family this whole time?.

This book is part 1 of a duet so the burn is slower with alot more room for character development, which i love. I felt a connection to the characters immediately, they were written so well- kira managed to make a grumpy arsehole and a stubborn, brittle mafia princess likeable and relatable; writing in a way that made such a difficult seeming relationship feel real and develop naturally

NARRATION

heather firth is one of my favourite female narrators. The emotion she portrays really makes you feel for Riley- i wanted to give kieran a snack on behalf of her quite a few times! Heather is excellent at seperating the characters voices, making each feel like their own person. They never feel like an afterthought.

James Cassidy is one of my favourite male narrators, ive always been a fan of extremely emotive performers, and james is one of the best. He really goes for it in the audio and the listener can feel his energy in the end product. Also his Irish accent? Impeccable.

Together the pair match beautifully, creating a seamless and natural icing to kira coles story cake (no I'm not hungry i promise).
Heather and James exceeded expectations with this duet audio!!

Received this book as an ARC from Kira Cole through BookSprout.
The Sullivan Mafia Series continues with Kieran's story and boy did it not disappoint. I am absolutely in love with this book everything about it just screams perfection. We get to see Kieran fall for their rival's daughter who seeks the Sullivan family's help when her family seeks to sell her into a marriage with a man old enough to be her father.

The Sullivans or rather Ronan decides that a fake marriage between Riley Walsh and Kieran would probably help protect her but unbeknownst to them both it wouldn't protect their hearts. The feels I got from this book was just insane and I couldn't stop reading it until I got to the end, of course there was a cliffhanger which will be resolved in the next book and now I must wait for that to see what happens.

Highly recommend this one, and Kira Cole never ceases to surprise me with how she writes her mafia romances, they are probably laced with something that keeps me coming back. Five Stars!

As always, James Cassidy has delivered a stellar performance which was equally matched by Heather Firth. My first listen by Heather, and won’t be my last!

The yearning and push-pull of the relationship dynamic between the MCs was delivered perfectly by our narrators. As the book unfolded and the characters developed, the narration reflected the change in character traits and personality; the level of intensity and emotion conveyed to listeners through the performance made it evident that the narrators poured their heart and soul in to this production 👌

Impatiently waiting to listen to the next book after being left on the ultimate cliffhanger finish 🔥

From a fire and into a frying pan, is what happened to Riley….her father is dead, and her uncle and brother are now planning her future with an arranged marriage to a man who is twice her age. But Riley has different plans the included finishing university and working for a Fortune 500 company. She takes it upon herself to untwine herself from her Uncles and brothers plans and run to the enemy, the Sullivan family, where Ronan the head of the family suggests to his playboy brother, Kieran, that to help Riley they need to play well together. A fake marriage ends up with some heat between the sheets and an ending that you are waiting to see what happens….yes this book ends on a cliffhanger, so we don’t know what happens to Riley or Kieran until the next book comes out…but fear not, its almost time for it to arrive!.

I love Riley Walsh, mafia princess, trying to make a life for herself outside of the mafia. If only her uncle would let her live her life, nope he's got plans of his own, she'll marry cruel Sean O'Keefe. She overhears his plans and panics and runs toward the enemy the Sullivan mafia. Kieran Sullivan is the enforcer, second behind his brother the boss. I love this twist as the mafia princess runs to the enemy and ends up in a marriage of convivence creating a new alliance, but not everyone is excited for this marriage to take place. A captivating story that sends with a cliffhanger. I love their witty banter, the twists and turns as Riley and Kieran try to find middle ground, a way to not hate each other. They try working together while being surrounded by danger, suspense and waring families in this captivating story. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Broken Lies is book 3 of The Sullivan Mafia Series and centers on Riley and Kieran, taking us alongside their journey through learning to trust each other to finding love and their HEA. I love how these two characters are written. Their beautiful and emotionally raw, each needing something from the other when they don't wanna need each other. You can't help but feel as if, with how amazing this is written, that you're experiencing the world they live in beside them. It's incredible!

The twist and turns, the drama, danger, spice and enemies needing each other to escape a forced marriage and finding the truth of one's father's murder, you will be sucked into this work of art and never wanting to find your way out. I can't express enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Would very much recommend to everyone!!

Broken Lies, book three in the Sullivan Mafia series follows the second oldest Sullivan brother Kieran Sullivan and Riley Walsh, daughter of Declan Walsh, a rival family. When Riley overhears her brother Oliver and her uncle Rion talking about marrying her off to the ruthless Sean O’Keefe.. a man old enough to be her father, she runs straight to the Sullivan’s.. the same Sullivan’s responsible for her father Declan’s murder. In order to keep her safe, and in exchange for information she found in her father’s office, Ronan suggests she “marry” Kieran, a marriage on paper only, that will stop other families from coming after her. What Riley didn’t expect was for Kieran to become the one person she would ever fall in love with, but when one night leads to two pink lines on a pregnancy test, she realizes that it’s too late to turn back now.

Riley is trying to keep herself out of the family issues. She is completing university at Columbia. She overhears her uncle selling her off to Sean O'Keefe in marriage. She escapes the estate and goes to Ronan Sullivan with information about O'Keefe.
He recommends she marry his brother Kieran for show to protect her. Kieran is antagonistic, and Riley reluctant. Over time they come to a truce, but while in Vegas using fake ID's they marry and Kieran gives in to his desire for Riley.
This story is fast paced with great characters and simmering heat between Riley and Kieran. The plot has multiple twists and surprises.
There is a cliff hanger ending leading to book 4.

Wow this was an awesome start to the duet. Loads of drama and spicy banter that I really enjoyed.

Riley a Mafia princess is promised to a brutal Mafia boss, but she runs to the Sullivan brothers and has to marry kieran for protection.

Riley ands Kieran are fighting their attraction for each other in so many ways. Not just the forces that are against them but the denial that each wants more.

Riley is smart, determined and focused and a perfect match for Kieran who is very similar. No wonder there is so much friction.

So well written. These two make perfect characters that engage in a plot that keeps me enthralled and is gripping. Can't wait for the end of the duet!.

Broken Lies by Kira Cole was such an addictive read, I flew through this one. The story is packed with secrets, betrayal, and that delicious tension that keeps you turning pages.

The story pulls you in quickly with its layered conflicts and high stakes dynamics between powerful families. Riley and Kieran share strong chemistry and their angst and emotional moments stand out, especially as hidden truths begin to surface.

The twists and tension kept me invested, making it a compelling read from start to finish. Note this does end on a cliff hanger.

Fans of mafia dark romance and morally gray characters will find a lot to enjoy here.

I enjoyed Kieran and Riley's story. Riley's uncle Rion has decided to force her into an arranged marriage with a man more than twice her age. She decides to run when she gets an opportunity. Kieran Sullivan is not happy when his oldest brother Ronan brings Riley to his apartment for him to "babysit." There begins the love/hate relationship between Kieran and Riley. Kira keeps you turning the pages with all the twists and turns that you don't see coming.
I received an arc from Booksprout for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. If you a dark mafia romance with plenty of angst then you will love this read. Be warned it does end on a big cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book to see what is going on and who is behind things.

Irish Mafia Playboy Falls for the Enemy

This is true enemies to lovers and in a mafia world. Throw in some forced proximity and fake marriage, along with growing attraction and voila. Oh and let's not forget the surprise baby and the sexy heart throb/playboy that is Kieran.

I don't usually like reading cliffhangers but I like mafia and I have enjoyed books by the author. I really enjoyed Kieran and Riley's connection and banter, I think that is what made the difference for me. Waiting to read how their story concludes.

We're with the Sullivan's again in Broken Lies and this time it's Kieran's story. It's a fantastic story of course with incredible characters and a storyline that completely engulfs readers from start to finish. Kieran and Riley start off with a fake marriage but as time goes on it's anything but fake. This story has lots of drama and chaos sprinkled with intrigue, danger and a good bit of steam. It does end on a cliffhanger so we have to wait for things to be wrapped up but this series is so worth it.

Every time I read a romance book by Kira, I am never disappointed because her writing style is perfect. Kieran and Riley blew me away with the romance, chemistry, surprises and everything in between. I think I have a book hangover reading this dark mafia romance book. It is not only going to capture your attention starting with the sexy hot cover, but the romance itself is addictive and extremely hard to stop reading. It's a good thing my plans for the weekend was staying home and reading because that is all I found myself wanting to do once I started this page turning book.
