Jazzy

If you looked up daddy’s girl in the dictionary, you’d probably see a picture of me.
When you grow up being loved unconditionally, you learn that you will never settle for anything less.

Which isn’t a problem. Unless you want to get married and do the whole children thing. Dating toad after toad and never getting your frog. Until you finally give up.

At twenty-nine years old, I don’t think I’ll ever meet my one true love.

That’s a lie. I did meet him. I grew up with him. He just didn’t want to love me back. It’s why, as soon as I could, I ran from home and started over in New York.

That is until I’m needed in Las Vegas to take over my father’s casino. It’s a good thing this princess is no longer looking for her prince. Because now I can face him without feeling a shred of emotion…

Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Jacob

Thirteen years ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life. I walked away.

Something I’ve regretted every day since. What choice did I have, though? It was either that, or drag the only girl I’ve ever loved down with me.

I’m not that same idiot kid, and Jasmine Bianchi isn’t the same girl I used to love. Gone is the sweet innocence of a fairy-tale dreamer.

In her place, there’s a cold, ruthless woman who wants the world to believe she’s impenetrable.

The thing is, I hold the keys to that lock around her heart. And now that she’s back, I plan on cracking it wide fucking open.

She thinks this is a game, so I’ll let her play her hand. But this time, the house will not win… because I’m not going to lose her twice.

Playing Her Hand is book 1 in the Owning Vegas, 2nd Generation series. Each book in this series is a stand alone dark romance.

“Playing her Hand” is the story of Jazzy and Jacob.

Second chance romance between childhood sweethearts. The fact that both were madly in love yet the hero spent the whole book pushing her away to protect her, and both had multiple other relationships irked me.

This one was hard. I really wanted to love this one by Kylie. I absolutely loved the first generation of Owning Vegas series. I got super hyped about Jazzy’s book but was a little let down by it.

Overall this book just felt really rushed and like there wasn’t much planning going into it. It started out really good but as it progressed it felt more and more rushed, clipped and repetitive. Not very well laid out as far as plot. I feel it may have been beneficial to also have a timeline. All these kids from the first generation are either adults or teenagers now. I also had no clue where Jacob came from. Supposedly a childhood best friend but I didn’t recall Jazzy making friends in the first gen’s book. She was having nightmares at home and being bullied at school. 🥲

Also Jazzy whining about Jacob leaving her on prom night after losing her virginity to him was mentioned on repeat. I wish Jazzy & Jake would have just had the discussion about it and moved on. I get the why behind Jake leaving Jazzy on prom night ties into the plot line but my goodness… the woman forgave the man and still raged on him about it.

As far as spiciness goes it just felt like a sprinkle of vanilla sex and talk about “seasoning” fingers in her 💦 so they have flavor…🫣 idk about you but ya girl ain’t a rotisserie chicken at Sunday brunch. I cringed. 😬

I am glad Jazzy got her happy ending with a 💍 in 🥞 proposal.

*this is just my honest opinion/review—I understand that this book maybe a 4 or 5 ⭐️ to others but for me it just wasn’t there*

A cute and short “mafia lite” book. I did enjoy multiple other books from this author so I wasn’t too worried about not liking this one. The only thing I wish it was a little more plot heavy, to me it all seemed pretty rushed through

THE FIRST CHAPTER! Omg Jazzy, I love you.

There is just something in Kylie Kent books that make it impossible to put them down until you’ve read every single word.

We first met Jazzy when she was 6 years old in the Owning Vegas series, now fast forward and she is a beautiful, strong, resilient 29 year old woman who is still always going to be the princess of the Vegas Underworld.

This is a beautiful second chance romance, we meet Jake who has been the best friend of Jazzy growing up, but a certain night when they were both 16 stopped their love story.

Trust me when I say you will be sucked in from that first chapter, and you’ll be dying to know all the secrets and why Jake did what he did.

Also may have definitely shed some tears towards the end. LOVED THIS!

such a fun read

This book was such a fun read.

It had:
* secret society computer hacker MMC
*mafia princess

They’ve known each other since 6 years old. They’re almost 30 in this book.

*Second chance love ( torn apart by outside circumstances)

* mafia and secret society

* action

* humor

* amazing family

Reading this was fun. I read it in under 24 hours. It made me smile, chuckle, and rushing to get to the next page at times. Truly enjoyed this one.

Was not ready go jazzy’s 25 year age jump. It fits with the rest of the Vegas series. I wasn’t too fond of her tbh. But book was ok

Playing Her Hand by Kylie Kent-a bold literary experiment that asks: 'what if absolutely nothing made sense, and we just… committed to that?'

I truly don’t know where to begin. This book isn’t just bad-it’s impressively bad. Like, you almost have to admire the consistency. At this point, I’m not just hoping it was AI-generated-I’m hoping it was written by an AI that actively hates humanity.

Let’s talk about chapter one, also known as “The Last Time Logic Was Seen Alive.”

It starts okay. Not great, but you think, “Alright, maybe this could go somewhere.” Oh, it goes somewhere alright-straight off a cliff.

Our FMC, Jazzy, murders her boyfriend of two years because he randomly wakes up one day and decides to punch her in the face. Why? No idea. The book makes a point of telling us he has never been violent before. He just woke up and chose domestic violence like it was on his morning to-do list. No explanation. No buildup. No follow-up. We love a mystery.

So she kills him. As one does.

Then-brace yourself-she calls her uncle for help. Not her father, who is apparently the most terrifying mafia boss in Vegas and has probably committed enough crimes to qualify as a one-man apocalypse. No, she doesn’t want him to know she’s a killer. Because that would be disappointing.

Flawless logic. No notes.

They clean up the body, and Jazzy is sent back to Vegas like she just finished a casual errand. Meanwhile, the dead boyfriend apparently existed in a vacuum. No friends. No family. No coworkers. No neighbors. No one notices he’s gone. Jazzy lived in New York for nine years and dated him for two, but somehow they were less visible than a secret government experiment.

Police? Silent. Society? Unbothered. Reality? Missing, presumed dead.

And that’s just chapter one.

Now, enter the MMC-our “lover boy,” a man whose emotional range spans from “mild inconvenience” to “let’s commit murder.”

He and Jazzy met at age six and immediately knew they were soulmates, because nothing says eternal love like shared snacks in kindergarten. They pine for each other for years, finally sleep together on prom night, and then-he vanishes.

Why?

Because he overheard a teenage boy say something gross about Jazzy. Naturally, the only reasonable response is to beat him to death. As one does. Teen angst? No. Teen homicide.

He calls his dad to clean it up, goes to prom, sleeps with Jazzy, and then disappears because… she doesn’t like violence. Sir. You just committed murder between school and prom.

Also, bonus: his dad is part of a super-secret society so powerful that the only solution is to abandon her dramatically instead of, I don’t know, communicating like a human being.

Fast forward 13 years. They reunite, and what follows is a masterclass in emotional depth:

He kisses her.
She immediately kisses someone else out of spite.
Her dad beats him up.
A secret society murders his parents.
He mourns for approximately 30 seconds.
She shows up.
By the next breath, they’re flirting and hooking up.

Grief? Never heard of her.

Assassins show up. Her aunt handles them like she’s swatting flies. He tells Jazzy to stay away for her safety. She attends his parents’ funeral and sits front row because subtlety is for losers.

He mourns again (this time for a generous 15 seconds), then asks if she wants to hook up in a confessional. Nothing says “processing trauma” like public indecency in a sacred space.

He again tells her to stay away. Then immediately decides they’re getting married. The secret society? Still dangerous? Probably. Does it matter? Absolutely not.

He then announces their engagement to basically everyone while insisting it’s a secret. Schrodinger’s relationship: both hidden and public at the same time.

And then-the grand finale-he destroys this terrifying, all-powerful secret society in about five minutes. Seriously? Apparently all it took was motivation and a free afternoon.

Sir, where was this energy for the last 13 years???

Oh, and he also kills his best friend of 20+ years at some point, is devastated for roughly 3.5 seconds, and then-because we must-happy ending.

Of course.

This book is not just lacking-it is aggressively empty. Plot? Missing. Logic? Missing. Character development? Missing. Emotional depth? On vacation.

An absolute masterpiece… if the goal was to make the reader question every life choice that led them here.

I’m still rooting for the AI theory.

Senior year prom, Jazzy and Jake gave each other everything. But first love turned into their first heartbreak when Jake left, shattering Jazzy. Now she’s back in Vegas, and her return forces Jake to come face to face with the love that he’s never truly been able to let go of. But maybe he didn’t leave without reason, maybe he was trying to protect her all along…

So if you’ve read His Playground, then you already know Carlo and Antonia were a whole rollercoaster and that’s where we first met (and fell in love with) little Jazzy. Y’all, best believe when I found out that we were getting a second generation series and the first book was going to be with Jazzy? I was FULLY fangirling. My girl Jazzyyyyyy, I loved her as a kid and she grew into exactly the kind of headstrong, spunky, no nonsense woman I knew she would be. She was strong, a true product of having such amazing parents and loving brothers, and just overall so relatable and cool. My homegirl really lived up to expectations.

Jake…I really did love him. Despite the ghosting, it’s so clear that he means well and never stopped loving her. I’ll be honest, a tiny part of me wished he had been a little more celibate during their time apart (yes I know, it’s unrealistic), but at the same time both of them lived their lives and experienced other people, so it felt alright. He was so protective and sure of her place in his life, and don’t even get me started about the way he called her Jasmine? Ugh why did it get me so revved up? It just felt so intimate, so personal.

“Every choice I’ve ever made is because I love you, Jazzy.”

This really felt like a story about two people who were always meant to find their way back to each other. No matter the time, the distance, or the circumstances, they were inevitable and I loved that. What made their relationship work so well for me was that it didn’t feel instalovey at all. They had years and years and years of history behind them. So when they fell back into each other, it felt natural, like picking up right where they left off. Their chemistry was effortless, but it was their friendship underneath it all that really sold their connection for me.

And can we please take like 2 mins just talk about the parents for a second? Carlo and Antonia were elite as always, duh. They were such good parents to Jazzy and it made me so emotional seeing how much love and support she grew up with. That letter scene with Antonia had me bawling. Oh and Jazzy’s relationships with her uncles (especially Emmanuel, the love of my life) and cousins was so chefs kiss.

This second generation era is honestly everything I wanted and more. I really was NOT ready to say goodbye to the Owning Vegas crew, so getting to see their kids step into their own stories with that same strong foundation of love just makes me so happy. I’m so so so ready for CJ and Daniela’s book, consider me already seated. The Owning Vegas world just keeps giving and I’m so here for it.

Playing her Hand is the first book in the Owning Vegas 2nd gen series. Jazzy has loved and been loved unconditionally her whole life. She has loving parents, uncles, cousins, and her younger brothers. There is one person who Jazzy has loved and wished he loved her back. That person is Jacob, her best friend since they were kids. The boy who slept over, took her to prom, and also broke her heart. She left Las Vegas to start over in New York. She has an amazing career and has been thriving. Now, her father needs her back to help him run his casino. She will do anything for her family. Although she doesn’t want to see Jacob, she is determined to prove she has moved on. Sadly you don’t forget your one true love. When she finally comes face to face with him, all those feelings come rushing back. The chemistry is still there but so is the anger, rejection, and heartbreak.

Jacob always loved Jazzy. He crushed on her as a kid, then as a teen, and now as a man. It is because he loves her so much that he broke her heart. He had to stay away from her in order to keep her safe from the danger that surrounds him. He misses her and has been keeping tabs on her, kind of like a stalker. He regrets hurting her but he keeps telling himself he did the right thing. Now that she is back, he wants another chance and will prove to her he can make her happy. He will not take no for an answer but he also needs to make sure she is safe. The minute he sees her, he wants her. The chemistry is there and he finds it hot when she is angry. What will happen when he tells Jazzy the truth? Will she even give him another chance?

Kylie Kent had me feeling bad for Jazzy. You can tell how much she loves Jacob and how much he broke her heart. It must have been very devastating to have her running away from home considering how much she loves her family. However, it was also really sad to see what Jacob goes through. He’d rather have her hate him than for her to be hurt. I love their scenes together. I was rooting for them from their first confrontation. I cried in this book, but I also laughed a lot. It was great to see all the OG‘s. I love seeing the bond between the families. There were some hilarious scenes between all the friends a.k.a. cousins. It was an emotional roller coaster for sure that had me on the edge of my seat. This was filled with drama, action, heat, danger, humor, heartbreaking moments, funny cameos, and devastating twists.

The Owning Vegas series was damn good and now Kylie Kent is taking us back to Vegas with the second generation and we’re starting out with the eldest of the kids, Jasmine Bianachi.

Jazzy didn’t know her dad until she was six and left in the foyer of his casino, but Carlos loved her immediately and when he fell for Antonia, she became the mother that she lost. Jazzy struggled in the world that her family lives in and disliked the violence, but what really sent her running from Vegas was the boy she loved, Jacob Weatherington.

Jacob belongs to one of the wealthiest families in America, so wealthy in fact that they are part of a very exclusive secret society. He’s been Jazzy’s best friend since they met in grade school and has loved her since they were 12, but when he’s pulled into the secret society sooner than he’d like he pushes her away.

All these years later Jazzy is back in Vegas after Emmanuel rescues her from New York and planning to work at Aces and start taking over from her father. She will be happy if she never sees Jake again and goes on pretending he doesn’t exist. Now that she’s back though, Jake can’t keep himself away no matter how hard he tries. It doesn’t help that Jazzy likes to push his stalker buttons once she finds out he watches her.

When things with the secret society get tense Jake knows that no matter which option he chooses it will hurt Jazzy. Regardless of the fact he hurt her once he’s determined to not let it happen again. Putting himself in the firing line will have a huge fallout but once Carlos and the other heads of the Vegas underworld know exactly what is going on, Jake has a support he hadn’t counted on. It doesn’t matter though because Jake will need to take care of things from the inside out.

If he can pull it off, he might finally get to have the only woman he will ever love. If he messes it up and loses her then he’ll likely burn Vegas to the ground.

This was a good first start for the 2nd generation of Owning Vegas. I liked both Jazzy and Jacob and their second chance romance. The suspense was minimal but there and I thought the balance was pretty good. Compared to the originals this one wasn’t as good, but I still enjoyed every moment.

Happy Reading.

📚 Playing Her Hand : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
#1 Owning Vegas 2nd Gen
Jazzy & Jacob 🩶

Tropes ✨: mafia romance / 2nd Gen / second chance romance / danger / murder attempt / family banter

👥 : Family tree at the beginning of the book
Jazzy brothers (CJ, Aiden)

Jobs : She works in finance / He works in finance (CEO)

Spicy : 🌶️🌶️,5

Quotes 💭 :
Jasmine Bianchi. My childhood best friend, the only girl I’ve ever loved and whose heart I broke. Of course, I know she’s back in Vegas. I always know when she’s back. Do I spend my free time following her around? Hiding in the shadows just to get a peek at her? Maybe. Have I hacked into her father’s casino CCTV just to watch her? Maybe. But will I ever admit that to anyone? Absolutely fucking not.

Because I know this woman loves me in a way that’s inexplainable. The same way I’ve always loved her.

“Well, at least my dad won’t shoot you at the altar anymore. For some reason, he is suddenly on Team Jacob.” Jazzy smiles back at me. “I’m not questioning his moment of what is likely temporary insanity.”

@ is a mad women who can give us unhinged addicting stories so fast it makes my head spin. She is so insanely talented and she hasn't written a single story yet that I haven't devoured! (And there are A LOT of books) This one was so amazing and I love that we always get to see the kids get their stories too! This is the 2nd generation of her Vegas series and I am so ready!!

Jazzy
Mafia Princess and Daughter of Charlos (vegas series). She is loved by all of his best friends especially Tio E (Dead or Alive). She tried to be on her own but when things got bad she had to go home. She's becoming more assertive and bold instead of always taking everyone else's feelings into account. I love how she's passionate and forgiving without giving up her self worth. Even after he broke her heart she still goes to him in is time of need. I loved how we got to see her grow up. She's so smart and wants to earn her way and not just have nepotism.

Jake
Took over his father's business and quickly learned his family is part of The Court a secret organization who has power in everything. He had to break the heart of the one person he loved more than anything just to protect her but always kept a close eye on her. He does whatever it takes to keep her safe. Even sacrificing people who matter to him if thats what it takes. I loved his determination and passion. He never gave excuses, I owned the fact that he messed up and did everything he could to fix it. (Didn't cheat)

I LOVED seeing the kids grown up and the parents just being the best people ever. (I missed them) I am so excited for the second generation! The ending had me tearing up. I love Carlo and Antonia so much. I was also super surprised about Brad..

Kylie seriously writes the best books and I already need to do another massive order because she keeps giving us amazing stories that I need my trophies!
You really should checkout her books there are all kinda of different stories who all feel unique.

Tropes:
Childhood Best Friends
Mafia Princess FMC
Billionaire MMC
Touch her and die
Second Chance
Secret Society
Betrayal

Playing Her Hand is Book 1 in Owning Vegas 2nd Gen). This is Jazzy and Jake's story!
If you have read her parents story in the Owning Vegas Series then you know Jazzy and Jake met when they were six years old and became the best of friends. They did absolutely everything together. Until something happens causing Jake to leave Jazzy and them not communicating for over 13 years.

We fast forward to Now, Jazzy a 29 years old Mafia princess who returns home after something horrible happens. where she is now helping her father run his company. She is feisty, fierce, and strong and she is done being told what to do. When her and Jake do see each other again she doesn't just fold. She is still so hurt and betrayed by Jake leaving her all those years ago. Even though there was a reason for him leaving she doesn't know it so she still has a lot of anger towards him. What she doesn't know is that over the last 13 years Jake has had eyes on her at all times making sure she is ok because even though he couldn't be with her for her own safety didn't mean he was gonna leave her unprotected. When she does eventually find out the truth that Jake has been hiding nothing is gonna stop her from fighting for their loving and proving that they are stronger together than apart.

I absolutely loved Jazzy and Jake's chemistry is was so explosive and pure. I loved how loyal, devoted and passionate their love was and how they would do absolutely anything for one another. They were truly soulmates.
I loved every bit of this book. I was hooked from the very first page. If you love a story that has mystery, suspense, secret society, second chance, and a couple who would do anything for each other then this is the book for you!!!

Kylie Kent has officially taken us back to the neon lights of Vegas, and the second generation is starting with an absolute bang! 🎰🔥 Playing Her Hand follows Jasmine Bianchi—our fierce, independent princess who we first met as a little girl left in the foyer of her father’s casino. Now, she’s a thriving career woman in NYC, but a dangerous incident forces her back into the arms of her overprotective family... and right into the path of the boy who shattered her heart. Jacob was her childhood best friend, her prom date, and her first love—until he pushed her away to protect her from the dark, secret society he was forced to join.

Jacob is the definition of unhinged, obsessed, and completely gone for his girl. 🕵️‍♂️🖤 He’s been "stalking" Jazzy from afar for years, keeping tabs on her every move because he’d rather she hate him and be safe than love him and be in danger. But now that she’s back in Vegas? All bets are off. The chemistry between them is explosive—it’s that perfect mix of deep-rooted best-friend love and raw, jagged heartbreak. Jazzy is no damsel; she’s stubborn, resilient, and handles Jake like a total boss, making him work for every single inch of her forgiveness. 👏🏽✨

Watching the OG characters like Carlo, Antonia, and the iconic Tio E step into their roles as parents and mentors was the ultimate nostalgia trip! The bond between the cousins and the "Vegas Underworld" family is as tight as ever, adding that perfect layer of found-family warmth to the high-octane drama. This story is an emotional rollercoaster filled with witty banter, "touch her and die" vibes, and a series of letters near the end that will absolutely ruin you. 😭💌 If you loved the first generation, you are going to be obsessed with how the kids are taking over the throne.

Is it any surprise that Kylie has managed to yet again write another amazing story!!! She will always be my auto buy author and continue to take up so much room on my shelves, I can’t wait to see what the rest of this 2nd gen series will bring!!!

Jazzy and Jake are such great characters!! I love that they have such a long, complicated history and that the love they have for each other doesn’t fade away!! Jake is willing to do anything he can to keep her safe, even if that means he can’t be with her!! But he’s not willing to not keep tabs on her just so he has some part in her life!!! He’s got all the touch her and die vibes sprinkled with the only soft for her!! He is sweet and genuine in his love for her!! Jazzy is so sweet, kind hearted and resilient!! She is such a kind souled person who loves deeply even when she was betrayed. When she is forced to protect herself from her current boyfriend and is forced to move back to Vegas, she tries to stay away from Jake, but he kind of forces her hand and she handles him like a BOSS B!TCH!!! Loved that for her!! I only wish their story had been a little longer, I was expecting a little more with the drama from “the court”, there was so much talk about it and than the peak of the storyline didn’t hit hard in normal Kylie fashion!! And the confrontation with that “one guy” could have been a little more intense, it ended so quickly and I was left wanting more!

I 💯 recommend this read!! Thank you Kylie for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read this story!! Looking forward to what’s next as always!!!

“Playing Her Hand” is the first book in Kylie’s new series “Owning Vegas 2nd Generation.” Jazzy has known Jacob since she was six years old. Senior Prom was the last time they saw each other….after a night of passion, they were each other’s first. When she wakes in the morning, Jacob is gone. Jazzy is heartbroken and moves to New York. Now at twenty nine, she is home, back in Las Vegas.

“There is no way I’m not making that woman mine again. She’s always been mine, but now that she’s back, I’m keeping her. To hell with the consequences. I will find a way to protect her, make sure my world doesn’t touch her.”

The story is full of passion, humor, intrigue, betrayal, vengeance, power, control, twists and turns around every corner - most of all love ♥️ There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! The book goes from pages that sizzle, to extreme violence, to the most beautiful tender moments!

“You don’t have to thank me for marrying you, Jazzy. It’s not a hardship.” He laughs.
I stare at my finger. I’m engaged. I’m marrying Jacob Westmead. I don’t think I could be any happier, any more content than I am right now. That’s what I’m thanking him for. He has made my dreams come true.”

You will fall in love with Jacob and Jazzy, hoping that everything with work out for them and if they have a future together. There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! I know I was - just love these two! A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

Playing her Hand is a second Generation spin off from the Owning Vegas and this FMC we actually meet her in her fathers book when she is left in his casino by her mother for him to look after. Even as a child Jazzy was feisty and I knew this wasn’t going to change as she got older.

As Jazzy was the first child of the group she was quite close with her uncles, and I’m definitely not surprised that Tio E or Emmanuel is the person that Jazzy would turn to when she doesn’t want her dad to know. Emmanuel was protective of his friends throughout the owning vegas series and he was the same with Jazzy so it was nice to see more of this as she grew up.

Jazzy moved away to New York and develops quite the career but after an incident she moves back home and this brings her closer to a person she thought she left in the past.

Our MMC Jake’s obsession with Jazzy never stopped, even after he had to make a decision to push Jazzy away for her protection. Now that she is back he decides that he wants her back in his life and he can keep her safe from those in his life that wish her harm.

The tension between these two was impeccable. Jazzy is not a FMC you can walk all over and she reminds Jake plenty of times about this, and let’s just say this is just the many things that Jake adores about her. Even though this couple remained apart for quite so time it was clear the spark never faded.

Kylie also gave us glimpses of the future couples we can expect for this series and I cannot wait. Thank you to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

🔥Jazzy and Jake

Not even gonna lie,
this book had me hooked.
Jake and Jazzy were childhood
best friends turned into something
way more complicated.
Second chance, yes! but messy, painful, and spicy.
He broke her heart right after prom and she never got over it.
Still hasn’t forgiven him.
But here’s the thing
he never stopped watching
her or loving her
Like actually keeping tabs on
her for years.
Now she's back can he keep away ?
And Jazzy? She’s not some innocent girl coming back home.
Her family is deep in their own underground life
and it’s just as dangerous.
And just as dangerous .
Now she’s back
and everything collides.
Old feelings, old wounds,
and two worlds that were never supposed to mix
but already do.
Jake would do anything to
protect her, even if it means dragging her deeper into the mess
he tried to keep her out of.
And now they’re working together with her family
and let’s just say,
nobody’s clean here.
The tension? Insane.

The chemistry and spice ?yeah it’s definitely there.🔥🌶️🔥

And those letters
I’m telling you right now
they made me cry
Like actually cry
You’ll get it when you read it
or maybe I was way
emotional that day 🤣
And it obviously helps that E
makes an appearance here and
there
This is a spin off the kids from the owning
Vegas series and dead or alive

THE FIRST CHAPTER!!! Omg Jazzy… I LOVE YOU 😭❤️

There is just something about Kylie Kent’s books that makes them absolutely impossible to put down I devoured every single word.

Jacob… unhinged, obsessed, and completely gone for her in the BEST way 😮‍🔥
• the way he watched over her 👀
• the way he was willing to let her go just to protect her 💔
• the choice he couldn’t make… and the consequences that followed 😭

Jazzy was EVERYTHING. Not a damsel, but strong, stubborn, and fiercely independent. The perfect match for Jacob 👏🏽

Their relationship??? The banter, the tension, the chemistry… INSANE. Even after everything, they still called each other best friends and that just hit different 🥺

I was rooting for Jacob the entire time he had me in a chokehold. And Aurelio?? HILARIOUS. I loved him so much 😂

Getting to see the second generation step into the spotlight was SUCH an amazing concept. Watching all these characters grown up and in new stages of life just made this story even more special.

Jazzy—Emmanuel’s principessa and Carlo’s little girl—completely lived up to every expectation. Her family dynamic was everything. The bond with Antonia 🥹 Carlo still being overprotective, the uncles still iconic, and E… just the BEST. AND THAT ENDING… the letters?!? RUINED ME.

I devoured this book and I’m already OBSESSED.
And don’t even get me started on Frankie & Emilio… I NEED their story immediately 😩🔥

It’s not very often that I get drawn into a book from the very first chapter. Usually even in great books it takes a few chapters to really get into a book. But Playing Her Hand quite literally sucked me in immediately. As though it was happening right in front of me. Having met Jazzy, Carlo’s daughter from the original Owning Vegas series, I already felt like i was somewhat invested in Jazzy’s story. After all this is the same girl who had all the Las Vegas ( and one Mexican Cartel Jeffe) mobsters wrapped around her finger. With a special bond with her StepMother and some overprotective, younger brothers too. It’s more than clear that Jazzy grew up surrounded by love. Blood related or not they are a family and if you take on one, you take on them all.

After a traumatic event Jazzy Returns to Las Vegas. However, going home means returning to the same city as the very man who broke her heart years earlier. Her former childhood best friend Jake. When they come face to face in a heated exchange, Jazzy makes it clear that she hates Jake. But there’s a thin line between love and hate. And the line between Jazzy and Jake is about to combust from the intensity of their feelings. What will Jazzy feel when she finds out that Jake pushed her away to protect her rather than hurt her?

As things heat up between the pair and old feelings resurface. So too does the danger circling Jake’s loved ones like sharks in bloody waters. A secret society has its sights set on Jazzy. Determined to use her to send a message but Jazzy is used to danger and is willing to step up at Jake’s side regardless of the threat to her.
Will Jake face his fear and fight for their relationship, and their clear and unflinching love for one another?
Or, will he allow old wounds and fear to control his actions breaking both of their hearts again?

With a target already painted on their backs, when someone close to him betrays him and threatens to hit him where it hurts. Jake is more than prepared to go scorched earth to keep her safe. Join Jazzy and Jake and try your luck in the City of Sin.

I devoured this read!!! An amazing concept to have the second generation come out to play.
Seeing all the characters grown up and what stages they are in their lives.
Was so excited to see this story was about Jazzy. Emmanuel's princessa and Carlo's little girl. Certainly lived up to all expectations, couldn't put it down.
Seeing her play the adored six year old little girl in the 'Owning Vegas' series. Now a fierce, smart, grown woman, navigating her life away from her family. Until she finds herself with blood on her hands, and a choice of who to call.
I can't wait to see more in this coming series!!
Believe it's going to be one of my favorites with the other children/ characters.
I adored Jakes obsession with Jazzy. Even with all the secrets, he aways had her best interests at heart. Determined to correct the wrongs of the past for their future.
The suspense and storyline was fantastic, written well, with great amounts of spice. The banter between the siblings and cousins was great! A family who always has each other's backs to the death.

Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Well, the story starts with Jazzy calling Emmanuel, her favourite uncle, to ask for help with something she has done. As a result, she was forced to go back to Las Vegas, where her best friend, Jake, had broken her heart a few years prior. Even though they didn't speak or interact at all during the years she was gone, Jake never forgot her and kept tabs on her, knowing all she was up to.
Could Jazzy put Jake's decisions from their teenage years behind her and forgive him?

When I first read about Jazzy as a little child in the Owning Vegas series 1st Gen, I fell in love with her.
Even after learning of the truths Jake was withholding from her, this loving, devoted, and charming woman refuses to give up on him. And Jake is the smart, possessive and obsessive man who in his teenage years, he gave up his love and happiness to protect Jazzy. They both create an intriguing pair.
I enjoyed how they finally expressed their love and passion for each other. I also enjoyed seeing the main characters from the 1st Gen again. With its twists, banter and protectiveness, the story was fantastic.
I might say that reading this book made me to experience a wide range of emotions.

Playing her Hand, @kylie Kent Author Available from 27th March 2026 🗓️ 📖 📕
I am a sucker for second generation books, I just get so imersed into the universe I want to know everyone’s story and Kylie Kent does this so well. Jazzy is the daughter of Carlo & Stepdaughter of Antonia from “His Playground” (Owning Vegas) and Jacob is the son of parents involved in a Secret Society. I LOVED this book & all its tropes, this is the first time I’ve read Mafia X Secret society and I am HERE for it.

Tío E is also still a baddie so was thrilled to see him make an appearance so early, while I know the characters deserve their own books I love to see the family connections from the 1st Gen and Kylie does this so well.
Be prepared to cry at the end though, that last letter 🥹🥹🥹

Finished the first book, second generation of owning Vegas series and we have to talk about it because OMG!! 🤩.
The book is the story of Jazzy and Jacob and what happens between them after prom day and it was sooo good.
Everything that happens throughout the story just captures you in an instant, the flow of it, the suspense, the secrets; everything was great.
Jazzy and Jacob were perfect, their love, their friendship, their companionship, how they would do anything to ensure each other’s care and protection. And the spicy scenes were spicing 🤤.
There were of course appearances of some old and new characters that brought a lot of funny moments which made the book even better.
All thought it was a short book, it was amazing, you would get lost in it. I couldn’t stop till i was done and most importantly, it didn’t felt rushed.

Playing Her Hand by Kylie Kent delivers a gripping start to the Owning Vegas: 2nd Generation series, blending mafia tension, power dynamics, and irresistible chemistry into a compelling romance.

Jazzy and Jacob’s story immediately pulls readers into a world where loyalty, danger, and passion collide. Kent does a great job building the emotional stakes between the characters while keeping the pace fast and engaging. The connection between Jazzy and Jacob feels intense and layered, making their interactions both thrilling and unpredictable.

What stands out most is the atmosphere of power and intrigue that surrounds the story. The Vegas setting combined with the dark mafia elements creates a backdrop where every decision carries weight and every relationship has consequences. Fans of billionaire and dark romance will especially appreciate the mix of dominance, vulnerability, and high stakes drama.

With strong chemistry, suspenseful moments, and a storyline that promises even more drama in the series, Playing Her Hand is an exciting introduction to the next generation of the Owning Vegas world.

TITLE: Playing Her Hand
Author: Kylie Kent
Series: Owning Vegas 2nd Gen (Book 1)
Publication Date: March 27, 2026

Who better to start this series off with than Jazzy? We meet her in the second book of the Owning Vegas (original) series when she is literally left on her father's doorstep. She becomes the princess to her father and "Uncles" who rule Vegas' underworld and will do anything to protect her.

Fast forward and now she is almost thirty, living in New York and finds herself in some trouble. She calls her Tio Emmanuel who swoops in rescues her, and takes her home- where she has to confront the boy who broke her heart. Of course her father and Uncles (and brothers and cousins) don't have any idea what happened or why.

Kylie weaves in characters from other series that we hope we will see again (De Bellis Family) and ties their worlds in perfectly.

Jazzy's connection with her step mother Antonia brought me to tears yet again. And their tender moment in the Epilogue was so sweet.

As alway- FIVE STARS!! Can't wait for the next book.
