Nathan L Flamank was born in Cornwall, England. He studied creative writing at both College and University. When not writing Nathan is a voracious reader and enjoys many authors, including: Tim Willocks, Christopher Fowler, Edward Lee, Lee Child, David Morrell, Carl Hiaasan, Pratchett, Koontz and Stephen King as well as many, many more talented writers that have given years of pleasurable reading. The author also enjoys horse riding, rock climbing, swimming and watching films and is an avid listener of music.
First let me say that this author is our Author of the Month in my FB book group and I am giving this book an honest review.
I am giving this book 3 stars.....
There are so many members in my group that are so excited about Nathan Flamank, but I had never had a chance to read any of his work. When he volunteered to be our AOTM, it was my opportunity to read the book of the month. Yay! Great! Because so many people are crazy about his books, I was very very excited to read 301. Unfortunately, 301 fell very flat for me, and it missed the mark completely.
The cons....
1. When the heroine is first described she is 5'5, 100lbs, and 34EE. Umm, what? What woman is that height, that tiny, but has large breasts like that? Does she have enough fat to cover those implants? yeah...no. It didn't really make sense to me. Having been to England multiple times before, I tried to picture an English person who is that tiny. The only person I could relate to is that guy from The Only Way is Essex who is super skinny. However, he is a man so that doesn't count.
2. The big twist was kind of rushed. In fact, the entire middle section of the book felt rushed. We find out one thing. The hero is okay with that. In fact, he's so okay with it that he does this other thing 2 seconds later. After that, we find out the hero is this secret other thing, and the only reason we find this out is because the heroine decides that she like it. Suddenly there is this agreement between the two. What? When? What happened? I just blinked my eyes. Really? Oh and he's rich AND it was love at first sight AND they lived happily ever after. Really, again?
Because it was so rushed, I felt very uncomfortable reading the book. Don't mistake that for being uncomfortable with the subject matter. It was more because everything was happening so fast, I didn't have a chance to really sink my teeth into it and make a connection with either one of them.
The Pros-
1. I loved the fact that this was set in London. I just came back so a few of the landmarks are familiar to me. For example, the M&M store in Piccadilly Circus! I've never smelled so much chocolate in one place. It's the equilvalent of taking the chocolate tour at Hershey Park. That excites me!
2. I always enjoy reading about subjects that I've never read before. This topic one of those. I'm very excited about it. The idea had a lot of promise, the execution.
Final thoughts....
Even though I didn't care for 301. I will give this author another try. I recently bought his DE work.
This is the first less than 5 star review I've ever left for this author. First off let me just say the "twist" was a surprisingly sexy one which I have never read about but enjoyed. I applaud the author for engaging in that genre. I just felt the story was too rushed and the characters are of course beautiful, big breasted and hung but hey it's fiction right?! Everything happens in a matter of a day and if I read the word "spunk" one more time ugh it must be a European thing! I skimmed through some of it. I would have liked more depth instead of it being crammed and rushed.
Well that was different! A sneaky little twist and some hot sex. A little too quickly accepting said sneaky little twist, but otherwise an enjoyable read.
This was a great short and hot read...if you love, love at first sight romances..and hot sex..you'll love this book..there is a twist..one that surprised me..but one I enjoyed..but you'll have to read 301 to find out what it is..I hope there will be more to Liam and Sophie's journey...and I have a feeling there will be!!
