Brooks Callahan is a star on the diamond. But when it comes to parenting an infant, he’s in over his head. Good thing I know a thing or two about being a nanny.
When my marriage blew up, my life was on the verge of spiraling. As a single mom of toddler twins with zero job prospects, I wasn’t sure how I was going to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table without living with my dysfunctional parents. But when my sister’s boyfriend gives my number to one of his teammates, talking up my nannying skills, I’m suddenly thrown a life raft. All I need to do is keep things professional.
So what if my new employer looks great with his shirt off. And has blue eyes that literally reflect an ocean of possibilities. And stares at me with enough heat to melt a glacier.
Brooks Callahan might be the best Sweetwater Mavericks player I’ve ever seen step up to the plate. But for him, baseball isn’t just a passion—it’s his path to survival. Our late-night talks give me a glimpse into every struggle he’s overcome to get here, and just as he thought his dream was crashing to an end, I show up and buy him an extra inning.
When lines start to blur and quiet moments turn into temptations too hot to ignore, the careful balance of our situation starts to feel shaky. My heart was broken not long ago. And Brooks has kept his on ice for years.
Could this sweet baby girl with eyes bluer than her daddy’s be an angel of second chances? And is this love we’re feeling real, or just the figment of our sleep-deprived imaginations?

She is the author of several young and new adult romances, including bestsellers The Moon and Back, The Varsity Series, The Hard Count, This Is Falling and Wild Reckless.
A sucker for a good romance, Ginger's other passion is sports, and she often blends the two in her stories. She has been writing and editing for newspapers, magazines and blogs for a hella long time. She has told the stories of Olympians, politicians, actors, scientists, cowboys, criminals and towns. For more on her and her work, visit her website at http://gingerscottbooks.com.
When she's not writing, the odds are high that she's somewhere near a baseball diamond, either watching her son field pop flies like Bryce Harper or cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ginger lives in Arizona and is married to her college sweetheart whom she met at ASU (fork 'em, Devils).
Both our main characters are single parents, but for Brooks Callahan, it was a surprise dropped off on his doorstep. Now he has a sweet baby girl while juggling his place on the roster of the AAA baseball team for Sweetwater.
When single mom, Lindsey Blackwood comes to his rescue in the diaper aisle of the grocery store, he finds the nanny he needs for his little girl. The fact that she comes with a pair of boisterous toddler twin boys just makes everything more entertaining. And chaotic.
It's the family he never imagined having but is desperate to keep. But everyone isn’t impressed with the new arrangement, and more than one person brings danger to their doorstep that threatens the people Brooks holds dear.
You'd think by now I’d know what to expect from this crafty storyteller, but she somehow keeps raising the bar and surprising me at every turn. This one is the perfect mix of charm, humor, heat, and heart, and you won’t want to miss it!
I read alot of sports romances - hockey, football, baseball, soccer - but this one stood out to me for the plot. Yes, there are some normal tropes - nanny/single dad, divorced mom with kids, etc. But it was how everything played out that made this one stand out from the others.
I love that everything flowed naturally and happened organically. I liked that Brooks and Lindsey talked, but were also hesitant in ways because of not wanting to move too fast. I really liked how these two acted like adults and didn't suddenly forget their age and act a different way as things progressed.
And then Ginger goes and adds in some unexpected suspense that revolves around Brooks' family and the way he grew up. It was nice that this part didn't overshadow the overall plot but added another layer to his story and background, and blended naturally into the story.
If you’re looking for a small town, single dad baseball player storyline, this one’s for you. A great addition to this series. Brooks and Lindsey have great chemistry and their journey has all the feels. Definitely worth the read.
Hey There Slugger is book two of The Boys Of Sweetwater Springs series by Ginger Scott. This is a delightful romance between single dad Brooks Callahan and his nanny Lindsey Blackwood. In Easy Tiger, Hunter found out his teammate and best friend had a baby and suggested a good nanny. Brooks is absolutely adorable and he tries so hard to do the right thing but his past keeps coming back to haunt him. Lindsey has her hands full trying to get her life back on track. She has no time for a new relationship and falling for a single dad wasn’t in her plans. These two are amazing parents, doing all they can for their children even though it means putting their wants and desires on the back burner. Is the timing all wrong for this couple or can they overcome all the issues they have to face and get the HEA they both deserve.
Brooks is a quiet and broody baseball player in his rookie season for The Mavericks. His life is turned upside down when a baby is suddenly left on his doorstep. His three month old daughter Holly is the result of a one night stand and her mother can’t look after her. Brooks is exhausted trying to negotiate parenthood and his career but things look up while searching for diapers at grocery store when a beautiful woman helps him. He can’t believe his luck when she arrives for the interview to be Holly’s nanny.
Lindsey is mum to twin boys Deacon and Riggs who are very boisterous and loud. She left her husband when she’d caught him cheating so needs a job. Hunter, her sister’s boyfriend, told her about Brooks needing a nanny. Her mental health has been spiralling down but hopes being a nanny to Holly will help as she deals with her divorce and custody issues. She regrets falling under Brandon’s charm because she dropped out of college and slowly lost her confidence. She had given her all to her annoying and smug ex and he just threw it back in her face.
Holly is immediately taken with her so Brooks asks her to start straight away. He is so grateful for her help especially as she’s so understanding of his situation. He is very attracted to her but knows he needs to resist her. He finds her smart, strong and a wonderful mother with some funny stories from her childhood. He considered giving up baseball but wants to give Holly everything he didn’t have growing up and desperate not to be like his parents.
They all move in together and fall into a comfortable friendship as they settle into a routine. She makes him happy even though his house in chaos and he knows the pull towards her is dangerous. Lindsey is also struggling with her feelings for the adorable ballplayer but is determined not to turn their deal into anything more than a business relationship. She knows they can’t get together with all that’s going on in her life, even though has some fantasies about him. She looks after Holly while he plays and then studies in the evenings. The twins love going to his matches and it so sweet when Lindsey records Holly at his game.
A kiss ignites the passion between them and they have some awkward and funny moments as they both comes to terms with their attraction. Could they keep their relationship secret so it doesn’t affect her divorce. When his past returns and then things escalate, he knows he must protect not only Holly but Lindsay and her boys. Threats and scary situations put pressure on their relationship so hard decisions have to be made. Brooks won’t let his issues jeopardise things with her ex but can he walk away. Is she better off without him?
They love each other but is it enough to keep them all safe. Can he reconcile his past with his present? Good epilogue with things going well for Brooks in his career and he and Hunter making both Blackwood sisters very happy. The author gives us more teasers about Roddy and Daisy but I think the next book Chin Up Champ, will be about Jayden and the team’s female coach.
This story delivers all the things that I love about romance with some of my favorite tropes done right. Small town charm, single dad and nanny dynamics, love after divorce, a broody MMC, a sassy FMC, and a baseball backdrop all come together to create a fun yet emotional ride.
Brooks Callahan and Lindsey Blackwood are so easy to love and carry this story so well, along with sweet baby Holly and Lindsey’s rambunctious twins, Deacon and Riggs. Brooks is navigating life as a brand-new surprise single dad, determined to be everything for his daughter. He wants to be her whole world, and he puts in the work to prove it, and it just melts you a little… or a lot. 🫠
And Lindsey, wow. She’s been through it with her awful narcissistic, cheating ex and is trying to rebuild herself and her life for her boys. The ex, Brandon, truly earns a spot in the love to hate category or maybe it’s just plain hate. Watching Lindsey reclaim her strength, find her spirit, and put her boys first makes her impossible not to root for. She is a spitfire, strong, determined, and an incredible mom to boot.
I will say, the divorce storyline and everything surrounding it hit me a little hard. It felt very real, maybe a little too real at times, and that made parts of this harder to read. It’s one of those things that’s so common that it can feel a bit heavy depending on your own experiences. I definitely wanted more closure there, specifically a comeuppance for her ex, but that’s more of a personal preference than anything else. The story itself is still really solid, just something to keep in mind if that kind of storyline might be tough for you.
The chemistry between Brooks and Lindsey is immediate and electric, but they try to keep things in check because of their complicated lives. Their friendship builds into something solid and supportive, and they truly become a team from the start. When they finally give in to their feelings and the all-bets-are-off moment comes, it feels inevitable and satisfying, even if it happens a bit abruptly. The scene afterward with the twins had me giggling, and when Brooks finally claims Lindsey as his, I was internally squealing. There is definitely a good amount of steam here, but the emotional connection and romance earned top billing.
I absolutely adore the found family they create together. Brooks, Lindsey, Holly, and the boys create this sweet, blended found family that just feels right. Their dynamic is full of heart and hope and will make you sigh with happiness.
The setting in Sweetwater Springs, Oklahoma adds so much to the story too. A small town centered around a minor league baseball team called the Mavericks is just such a fun backdrop. It feels lived in and cozy, and I loved getting glimpses of other characters like the Blackwoods, Roddy, Daisy, and Jake. Checking in on Hunter and Ren was the cherry on top.
Even when Brooks worries that his past might mess things up, you can’t help but hope he gets everything he’s working for. And honestly, seeing him not just get the girl but the whole dream is oh so satisfying.
This was a really enjoyable read that blends romance, found family, and personal growth in a way that both warms your heart and pulls on your heartstrings. Even with a few heavier elements that might not work for everyone, the love story and the lovable found family at the center make it absolutely worth the read. If you love small town romances with heart and heat, a swoony single dad, and an FMC you can root for, this one is definitely a great pick.
Book 2 in The Boys of Sweetwater Springs is here! Ginger Scott introduces two amazing single parents who find true happiness with one another. Hey There Slugger is a fun read that I found myself thoroughly hooked to. Our MCs have a lot going on and life just keeps piling it on. I always love what Ginger brings to her stories, building connections that last, and the found family vibes that easily flow through every book. I enjoyed reading this book so much and loved getting to know our MCs.
Brooks is in his rookie season with the Mavericks. While he is ready for the best year of his career, a baby showing up on his doorstep wasn’t anything he ever thought would happen. As he is learning to balance baseball life with parent life, he isn’t sure how long he will last. He knows he can’t keep going like this, but also is determined to provide for his little girl. Brooks is a great character.
Putting his own life, minus baseball, on hold for his daughter, it was wonderful to see him learn how to balance it all. Thankfully his new team also has his back and recommends a nanny. Lindsey is starting over with her two twin sons. Catching her husband cheating, she is done. So in need of a job, her sister is able to help her get an interview for a nanny position. Realizing she already knows the man she is interviewing with when she arrives, thanks to a grocery store encounter, she is offered the job almost immediately. Not only does Brooks offer a job, but also a place to stay. Slowly she realizes she’s falling for her boss, but with a divorce looming, she doesn’t want to risk anything that could hurt her later on.
In true Ginger fashion, the romance builds slowly and steadily. Both Brooks and Lindsey find companionship in each other. Both have complications in their own lives, but not sure how they can keep denying the feelings growing between them. When both their pasts barge into their present, will they stand together or walk in opposite directions? A wonderful story reminding readers what loving someone is really about and the lengths we go for those we love.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: ⚾Baseball Romance 🧢Small Town Romance ⚾Single Dad MMC 🧢Nanny FMC ⚾Love After Divorce 🧢Broody x Sassy
I was intrigued by Brooks's character in Easy Tiger, and once baby Holly was introduced, I was hooked and needed more. I just knew that he and Lindsay would be perfect together, and boy, was I right!
Brooks is the kind of dad all new dads should aspire to be! He could've easily denied paternity and turned his back on his baby girl, but he didn't. Even though it took him by surprise, he wrestled his demons and stepped up, desiring to give Holly the love, guidance, and protection he lacked growing up. He never wanted her to question his love and devotion to her.
Once, Lindsay thought she had it all. A husband who loved her, twin boys who were the light of her life, and a beautiful home. How wrong she was, and that idyllic picture shattered when she discovered her husband cheating, and everything unraveled. Jobless and with children to support, everything changed after a chance encounter with Brooks in the diaper aisle at the local grocery store and a nanny offer that followed days later.
Darkness haunts Brooks' past, and that's where he thought he left it, in the past. How wrong he was.
Lindsay's narcissistic, soon-to-be ex decides to turn her world upside down by petitioning for primary custody. Why is he determined to make her life hard?
I enjoyed the gentle buildup of Hey There Slugger as Brooks and Lindsay, separately and then together, find the rhythm of their new normal. They worked well as a team, supporting each other through difficult times as their relationship evolved from strangers to friends to lovers.
One thing I loved so much was how devoted Brooks was to his daughter. His circumstances growing up weren't the best, with an addict mom and a deadbeat dad, and he wanted more for Holly. He was determined to be the best dad and raise her not only to succeed but to fly high.
Can Brooks close the door to his past? How will Lindsay retain primary custody of her sons? You'll need to read Hey There Slugger to find out!
Tropes ~ Themes ~ Vibes: • Minor league baseball • Small town romance • Nanny • Single parenthood • Brooding hero • Sassy heroine • Cameos of Ren and Hunter from Easy Tiger
This book was such a warm, messy, heart-squeezing hug of a story and I loved every single second of it.
Brooks Callahan completely stole my heart. This man might be a star baseball player on the field, but watching him try to figure out life with a tiny baby girl? Adorable chaos. The late-night feedings, the exhaustion, the quiet panic of wanting to do everything right… it made him feel so real and so human. Underneath the athlete reputation he’s just a guy trying his best for his daughter and it melted me into a puddle. 🥹⚾
And Lindsay? I loved her so much. She’s been knocked around by life, dealing with a broken marriage and raising toddler twins while trying to keep everything from falling apart. She’s strong but also tired and vulnerable in the most relatable way. When she walks into Brooks’ life as his nanny, it feels like two storms colliding… but somehow they make calm for each other.
Their chemistry was SO good. The slow build of tension, the quiet moments late at night when the house is finally still, the conversations that slowly peel back their scars… it felt intimate in that soft emotional way that sneaks up on you. One minute they’re just trying to keep things professional and the next the air between them is practically sparking. 🔥
But what really made this story special was the heart. This isn’t just a romance. It’s about second chances, healing after heartbreak, and two people learning they don’t have to carry the weight of the world alone anymore. And the kids! The babies added so much sweetness and chaos to the story. Brooks with his daughter and Lindsay with her twins created this messy, adorable little orbit of family that made my heart ridiculously full.
And Lindsay and Brooks together? Absolute perfection. They balance each other in the best way. She gives him stability when his world feels like it’s falling apart, and he reminds her she deserves love and joy again.
By the end I was grinning like an idiot, a little teary, and completely in love with this story. If you want a romance with heart, adorable kids, a swoony baseball hero, and a heroine you can’t help but root for, this one is an absolute home run. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⚾💙
Hey There Slugger by Ginger Scott is a heartfelt, small-town romance that blends minor league baseball with themes of family, healing, and second chances.
Lindsay and Brooks are great together—their relationship builds in a way that feels natural and grounded. There’s an instant connection between them, but thankfully it never tips into insta-love. Instead, their bond grows through companionship, shared responsibilities, and a mutual love of family that makes their dynamic especially meaningful.
The story really shines in its depiction of everyday life in a small-town, minor league baseball setting. Scott loves the sport, and that adds a warm, authentic backdrop to the developing romance. Even more impressive is how vividly she captures motherhood—her writing around the baby feels especially tender and real, she’s clearly drawing from lived experience.
The kids absolutely steal every scene they’re in. Deacon and Riggs are hilarious, rambunctious four-year-olds who bring so much life and humor to the story, while baby Holly is pure sweetness. Their presence adds both lightness and emotional depth.
Brooks’ troubled childhood is an important thread, especially when his father reenters his life after being released from prison. This element brings a mix of tension and vulnerability, showing how the past can resurface in complicated ways. Alongside that, Lindsay’s almost-ex-husband adds another layer of conflict. Some of these moments lean to the dramatic, while others feel very grounded and realistic, creating a balance that keeps the story engaging.
Overall, Ginger Scott proves once again that she’s a strong storyteller with a talent for blending romance, sport, family, and emotional growth. This is a warm, engaging read with characters you’ll root for and a setting that feels like home.

Book Trope: Sweet small town, baseball romance, second chance romance.
Brooks Callahan plays AAA baseball team for the Sweetwater Mavericks. He's hoping to get called up to the professional team during his first seasons in AAA. Brooks had a one night stand a few times with a local. She got pregnant and never told Brooks. One night he received a package at his front door, his new 3 month old baby girl. Brooks has zero idea on how to care for a baby. He met Lindsey one night in the grocery store while he was look for diapers for his new baby, he was struggling to find a size that she should be in. With Lindsey's help he was able to find the right size and not feel totally alone.
Lindsey Blackwood is a local of Sweetwater. Her dad was the local high school baseball coach and the Mavericks coach for awhile. Lindsey has twin boys, who are four years old, turning five. She is currently separated from her husband and living back home with her parents. Lindsey put her college life and work life on hold while her then husband got his degree's.
Brooks gets a few recommendations from teammates about a nanny, Lindsey is who everyone kept recommending to him. Brooks finds out that this is the same lady who was kind enough to help him at the store. They hit things off and she agrees to be a nanny for him. But, with his crazy baseball schedule, they agree that her and her boys living with him would be a better option than her dropping by every day. Once they are moved in and all living together, they seem to connect more as a family unit. Brooks starts getting feelings towards Lindsey, but, she is more cautious of not wanting to go 'public' with their relationship as her divorce isn't finalized.
Will Brooks be able to raise his new baby girl? Will Lindsey be able to divorce her ex and keep her wild boys? Or will he fight her for custody?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving a honest book review.
When Lindsey Blackwood finds out that a friend has given her number to a dad in need of a nanny she thanks the universe for the small little favor. Being a single mom is rough, but being a single mom to toddler twins is something else entirely, especially when your life has kind of imploded in one fell swoop. She needs a way to support her little family and keep a roof over their heads, and this job offer might just do all of that... and maybe more!
Hey There Slugger is a wonderfully penned romance about two people who aren't really looking for love, but love takes matters into it's own hands and keeps throwing them together in situations where it can't be denied. I loved watching Lindsey find her way out of her spiraling life and into a life she never thought was possible again after the disastrous end to her marriage. To see her find her way again was so heartwarming and uplifting. It wasn't an easy fall, as both had mile high walls around their hearts and were afraid to take that step, but once they realized there was no denying what was happening between them and took the leap all bets were off. And my heart soared!!
Ms. Scott has given us an emotional and beautifully crafted love story here, the words will pull you almost immediately and not long after you will feel your heart being stolen by its perfectly drawn characters. It's a can't miss read! Highly recommend you take a chance on this one, it's one of those stories that'll linger long after the last page finds you!

Brooks and Lindsey
This sports romance follows Brooks and Lindsey. Brooks is a new single father and tries to make it work to balance his new life with his career as a baseball player. He wants to make it big to give his little daughter the life she deserves. And to himself too, because his family life as a kid was really bad. So when his best friend arranges a nanny for Brooks he is happy. The single mom Lindsey needs the job and the money. Out of a marriage she lives with her parents with her twin boys. She is about to start fresh. find a job, a new living situation and maybe finish her degree. But of course the attraction is between both really high and hot. But two characters with troubled pasts and a lot on the line things aren’t going to be easy. And Brooks wants a career with the team in Texas, that is also where his best friend lives. Can or could Lindsey go with him with everything going on, and are their feelings really stable and they have a thing for eternity. And then his past comes and delivers worry and anger, so Brooks thinks it is best to stay away from Lidsey to keep that away from her. When Brooks' chance comes he takes it and wants to give them the chance to see if what they had was the real deal or just a fantasy. So Lindsey stays behind even if can handle a lot. Will Brooks come back to his girl or are there to many obstacles in their way to happiness?
Brooks never gave much thought to being a dad because he never had the best role models as parents. But here he is: single dad to a little girl, professional baseball player and sleep deprived. He’s in desperate need of a nanny especially when the season gets in full swing. Lindsey desperately needs a job after leaving her cheating husband with her twin boys. So this is a match made in heaven right? Well professionally speaking. But maybe also more than professionally speaking…
Hey There Slugger is book 2 of the The Boys of Sweetwater Springs series by Ginger Scott. It’s part of the series but it can be read as a standalone.
There are way too little baseball romances out there - or I just haven’t found them. But I’m still over the moon that Ginger Scott decided to write some baseball romance and I’m here for it. Even though I liked Easy Tiger a little bit more than Hey There Slugger I still enjoyed this book so much. I really loved Brooks and his background story with all the little details giving him a lot of depth to his character. Lindsey is an inspiration fighting for herself and her two boys and still going after what she wants for herself while managing to juggle everything? Truly amazing. I liked their chemistry, but it took some time for me to feel this chemistry. Apart from this cute patchwork family love story there is some spice and quite some suspense that I enjoyed so much but did not see coming.
Is there anything better than a single dad romance?! Ginger Scott brings us back to Sweetwater, OK, home to the Ranger’s Triple A baseball team, and infielder Brooks Callahan. Brooks is ready for a breakout year, hoping to make it to the big show. But when a one night stand drops their daughter on his doorstep, his priorities change, as he strives to be the father he never had, while juggling the demands of a busy travel schedule. He hires a nanny, Lindsey. A recently separated single mom, she is in need of a reset, having sacrificed her own ambitions and education to help her soon to be ex-husband achieve his career goals. The attraction between these two is instant, but there are so many obstacles in their way! Lindsey is focused on her upcoming custody hearing, and managing the needs of her young sons. Brooks is similarly focused on establishing paternity, securing legal custody of his daughter, and playing well enough to earn a spot on the Rangers roster.
The little town of Sweetwater has so many great characters, including Lindsey’s dad, the longtime high school coach. And as a baseball lover myself, Ginger Scott’s love of the game shows in this series. While this is the second book, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to see where the series takes us next!
- Forced proximity (roommates) - Single dad, baseball player - Single mom, slightly older FMC - Small town romance
I loved this book so much! The timing was perfect as baseball opening day quickly approached. I love sports romance and this one had just enough baseball without detracting from the fun romance between Brooks and Lindsay.
I was excited for their romance after getting to know them in the first book in the series.
Brooks’ situation tugged at my heart at the beginning of this book. Having an unexpected 3-month old baby left on his doorstep would be challenging enough, but add it to trying to succeed at AAA baseball for a chance at a call up to the MLB…oof that’s extra challenging. I loved how despite the extreme exhaustion of being a single father juggling baseball practice, games and childcare - he is committed to being the best father to his sweet little girl.
Lindsay first meets Brooks in the baby aisle while he is trying to figure out diaper sizing. Hilarious scene and it sets the tone for them. Lindsay is funny and helpful, and Brooks is appreciative of her help and very attracted to her.
The storyline had some unexpected subplots that kept my attention wondering what was happening and really added to the complexity of the story. I’m eager for what’s next in Sweetwater OK!
I received a free ARC from the author and Wordsmith Publicity; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
4.25⭐️ Ginger is starting to be the author I go to when I just need a fun and lighter read. I mean yes he had a surprise baby and she is going through a divorce. Oh and they have someone following them but other than that this book is light 🫣.
What to Expect from Hey there Slugger: 🧢 Only one time (yeah okay) ⚾ Minor league baseball Romance 🧢 Small Town Romance ⚾ Surprise single Dad 🧢 Sigle mom nanny ⚾ Love After Divorce 🧢 Broody x Sassy ⚾ Found family 🧢 Childhood trauma
Lindsey Blackwood is back in her parents house sharing a room with her boys while going through a divorce. She has no direction because she put her life on hold so her husband could get his career up and going. Until she finds herself nannying for Brooks.
Brooks Callahan plays for Sweetwater's minor league baseball team. Everything was going to plan until a baby girl was left with him because her mom couldn't take care of her. He knew he was going to need help. In comes Lindsey to save the day.
What happens when he ask Lindsey to move in with him so it would be easier with Holly. One thing that doesn't happen is "Only one time."
I really enjoyed their story. They just fit as a family. It's hard to explain but it's kinda like finding the missing piece for Brooks.
Thank you Ginger Scott and Wordsmith Publicity for the early copy. Above are my honest thoughts.
I've always had a soft spot for single dad romances and I've been excited for this story since I read the first book in this series.
Brooks Callahan is a star baseball player looking to get called up to the big league, but right now, he finds himself struggling as a single dad looking after his baby girl. Lindsey Blackwood didn't expect to find herself as a single mom of twin boys. She's ready to get her divorce behind her, but she's already in over her head and needs a break which could come in the form of a nannying job for her sister's boyfriend's former teammate. This arrangement could greatly benefit both Brooks and Lindsey, but keeping things professional between them could be a job all on it's own.
I loved this story from the very first chapter. Brooks and Lindsey have an adorable meet cute and it's the perfect start to their relationship. This story has moments that are funny and cute, but it also deals with some serious topics too. It's a bit of a slow burn, but it definitely heats up, and the connection between Brooks and Lindsey kept me turning the pages.
This baseball series is turning out to be a favorite and I can't wait to see which player is next in the lineup.
I don’t typically read many baseball romance novels, but this one is fantastic. I was completely captivated and found it difficult to set the book down even to prepare dinner. The main reason I applied for the ARC was because of the single dad trope, which I adore, and this book certainly delivers. Brooks discovers he has a daughter when she unexpectedly appears at his front door in the middle of the night. Another aspect I loved is that Lindsey is also embarking on a new chapter in her life with her twin boys while navigating a divorce.
Brooks has been playing baseball since he was a child, and now he aims to reach the majors to ensure his daughter has a bright future. He realizes that finding a nanny to care for her while he focuses on baseball would make things easier.
Lindsey, on the other hand, caught her husband cheating and knew she had to leave to prioritize her boys. However, her soon-to-be ex-husband is now seeking full custody, trying to convince the judge he deserves it, despite not even knowing how his sons like their grilled cheese. Lindsey has been there for every moment with her boys, and nothing will stop her from securing full custody.
I was graciously given an ARC by the author, and I couldn’t wait to dive into this one.
This story follows Brooks, a brand‑new single dad, and Lindsay, a mom of twins who has just walked away from her cheating husband. Brooks’ world is flipped upside down when a one‑night stand leaves his three‑month‑old daughter on his doorstep. With no idea what he’s doing and no support system, he’s desperate for help. A former teammate gives him Lindsay’s name, and she steps in as a temporary nanny while navigating her own messy divorce.
The attraction between them sparks immediately, and things only intensify when Brooks asks Lindsay to move in so she can help with the long hours of newborn life. Their chemistry is undeniable, but both of them are carrying heavy emotional baggage.
Brooks is suddenly dealing with his father—recently out of jail and wanting back into his life. Lindsay is fighting through a divorce with a difficult soon‑to‑be ex. Their challenges threaten to pull them apart more than once, but watching them choose each other, after they go through some hardships, makes their journey incredibly satisfying.
If you’re in the mood for a heartfelt, small-town sports romance that truly tugs at your emotions, this one absolutely delivers. Brooks, a newly single dad, is doing his best to juggle life and care for his baby daughter, Holly, but he’s clearly in over his head. Enter Lindsey, a live-in nanny who arrives with her own whirlwind: two energetic four-year-old boys and a complicated past she’s trying to navigate. What starts as a practical arrangement quickly becomes something much more meaningful. I loved watching their connection grow amidst the chaos of parenting, shared responsibilities, and the weight of their individual struggles. The story beautifully captures the messy, real-life moments of raising kids while also building a slow, believable romance filled with tension and heart. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the emotional depth added by past relationships and family baggage makes everything feel even more authentic. Warm, engaging, and full of feeling, this is a touching romance that blends family, healing, and love in such a satisfying way. Definitely a must-read for fans of emotional, character-driven love stories.
ARC Review Book: Hey There Slugger Author: Ginger Scott ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was such a good read, I loved the story from page one.
Lindsay is going through a divorce, living with her parents, taking care of her twin boys, and she needs a job. Brooks just found out that he is a dad and needs a nanny for him to play baseball. They have an arrangement; she moves in full-time with him, and she gets a palace to stay in, and she takes care of his daughter. The catch, they area attacted to each other, but don't want to act on it. Until they can't deny it anymore. However, they are both scared because Lindsay's husband wants to take her kids away, and since Brooks childhood was not the best, he wants to focus on his daughter and baseball, to give her the best life that she deserves. But the universe has another idea, because even through everything that they have gone through, they are meant to be together.
I loved how Brooks tries so hard to be a good father to his daughter and how much he loves Lindsey. He was there for her, being the person that she needed most. If you love sports romance, small town, love after divorce, this book is for you.
After being betrayed by her husband Lindsay is focused being the best mother she can be for her sons Deacon and Riggs and to give them the best life she can. A chance encounter with Brooks where she offers a helping hand leads to a job as his nanny which will give her the job she needs and him the childcare that he needs. She knows she isn’t ready for another relationship even if he is the most enticing man she has ever met.
Finding out he is a father to his daughter Holly has thrown Brooks a curve ball he didn’t see coming. When Lindsey arrives to interview for the job as he nanny he knew from their first meeting that she was exactly what he and his daughter needs. He knows that he should keep their relationship strictly professional however he can’t deny that when it comes to her sons, his daughter and Lindsay it finally feels like he has found the place where he belongs.
Both Lindsay and Brooks are single parents which brings them closer and gives them a greater understanding of each other. There is a little turmoil when it comes to their pasts however there is no denying that they are stronger together than apart.
OhMyWord! Ginger Scott gives us another great baseball romance in Hey There Slugger, the second book in The Boys of Sweetwater Springs series. We met both Brooks and Lindsey in Easy Tiger, the first book in the series. You can see in book #1 how good their story is going to be!
Lindsey is a single mom of rambunctious twins who recently caught her soon-to-be ex cheating. Living with her parents with no job prospects is depressing, so when her sister tells her that Brooks needs a nanny, Lindsey is all over the job.
Their chance meeting in the diaper aisle of the grocery store sets the scene for Brooks and Lindsey's relationship. Quite a bit of chaos, attraction and shared passion make for the perfect couple, until the past comes crashing in their door (literally). Brooks' parents choices will haunt him forever, it seems and he can't bring Lindsey and her boys into the danger zone.
I loved Lindsey and Brooks' instalove and his protectiveness over Lindsey, her boys and Holly, his daughter. The intrigue that Ginger Scott adds is a bonus that makes your heart race! This one should be at the top of your TBR! Can't recommend it enough!
𝐇𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐥𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 is the second book in the baseball romance series, The Boys of Sweetwater Springs by Ginger Scott, featuring a compelling broody single dad/sassy nanny dynamic for Brooks and Lindsey, as they both navigate new and difficult circumstances. Their original meet-cute left a huge impression on my heart, and set the stage for a sweet, emotional connection between two single parents who could both use a lucky break. Brooks and Lindsey had plenty of chemistry sparking between them, but I loved the way they built a friendship and bonded over their adorable kids. Lindsey’s precocious twin boys had me laughing, as baby Holly upped Brooks’ swoon-worthy factor exponentially as he excelled as a new girl dad. The divorce drama and other twists and turns in the plot kept me riveted to the story as I rooted for this developing family to find its roots amid the chaos. I loved the small town charm, and the camaraderie of the baseball team, as well as the references to Hunter, Renleigh, and others from the first book! I cannot wait to see what comes next in this world!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶
Oh man, I have been waiting for Brooks’ story and I devoured it! Brooks and Lindsey hit you with all the feels. They both have been through a lot and are also going through life changes and these two find a way to support each other and be that person for one another when they don’t think it’s possible. Lindsey is going through a divorce and is now a single mom two twin toddlers and starts nannying for Brooks and his daughter Holly. The swoony moments are nonstop in this book and your heart will be a puddle of goo by the end. Brooks and Lindsey are there for one another and start to tie that line of attraction, but giving in could jeopardize everything and the past starts to pop up and threaten their future. Brooks and Lindsey have to figure out how to navigate their new normal and not give into old habits. Then add in the adorable kids and hilarious banter, close proximity, and stolen moments that will have you rooting for them to figure things out. I loved Hey There Slugger and cannot wait for the next book in this series!
"Hey There Slugger" is a charming addition to The Boys of Sweetwater Springs series (Book 2), written by Ginger Scott. It tells a fun story about AAA baseball player Brooks Callihan, who unexpectedly becomes a father to a three-month-old. To help care for Holly while she navigates her divorce and raises twin preschool boys, Riggs and Deacon, Brooks hires Lindsey Blackwood, his friend’s girlfriend’s sister, as a nanny. As she settles nearby, Brooks and Lindsey find themselves fighting attraction and growing closer as friends. Lindsey’s soon-to-be ex-husband causes chaos by proposing new rules and visitation arrangements aligned with his preferences, while she works to complete her college degree and manage her family responsibilities. Meanwhile, people from Brooks’ past try to manipulate him as threats to Brooks and Holly increase. Ginger Scott captures the essence of minor league baseball players aiming for the majors, highlighting a heartfelt love story about a devoted father whose nanny could become "his." The story ends with a memorable HEA that leaves a lasting impression.
This one took turns I was not expecting! I knew I’d love Brooks and Lindsey’s story from Book 1 although this can stand alone, but I wasn’t prepared for the depth and twists in this one.
Lindsey is trying to recover from the demise of her marriage and Brooks is struggling with new fatherhood that was thrust upon him. And I am a sucker for a single dad story. Brooks is so swoony over his immediate devotion to Holly and her wellbeing. Lindsey enters the picture at the right time for both of them as his new nanny.
Their official meeting was a bit hilarious and somewhat of a hot mess as well as their first meeting as well. Those had me chuckling.
Watching these two thrive on their own and because of each other was heart warming and there was enough twists to keep this story interesting. I really enjoyed these two together.
Can’t wait for the next one of the series. I am fairly new to Ginger Scott’s writing, but this series has me hooked.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I haven't read a story by Ginger Scott in years. And this was a good one to get back at it💖
Brooks and Lindsey had chemistry from the first meeting in the supermarket isle😊 Brooks baseball career just started. And having a new baby to boot he thought he couldn't handle it. So he got a nanny, the same woman he met in the supermarket, who helped him out...
Lindsey is newly divorced with twin boys, so she had to move in with her parents to get back on her feet, hence why she became a nanny for an adorable little girl. She doesnt have time for a single dad and a new relationship.
Meeting Brooks seems like a second chance for both of them, but maybe its not the right time??
What's not to love, a single dad with an adorable little girl, a single mom with a bunch of rowdy twins. Lots of chemistry and sexual tension. I loved these two, they both had crappy relationships and both needed a happy ending. Love it💖
This book had my attention from the blurb, but as I got into it, I was hooked. So many elements are my favorites, small town, baseball, single parents, and the author Ginger Scott.
Book two of The Boys of Sweetwater Springs tops the first. Brooks unexpectedly finds himself a father. Completely out of his element, as baseball has always been his focus. The diaper isle is completely foreign to him, until Lindsey comes to his rescue. Lindsey’s life is currently in complete upheaval, mom of active twin boys, she needs a roof over her head, and a way to keep food on the table.
Both Brooks and Lindsey are not looking for love, but her being his nanny can solve many problems. Can they keep the lines from crossing. Lindsey is working hard to pick up the pieces of her life after divorce. She is keeping her walls around her heart high, yet life and love seem to have other ideas.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
