This was a really nice story about second chances, facing fears, and finding family. The story was engaging, and the characters were relatable. The story has levels of drama that pull you in, and the spicy scenes add to the story instead of seeming like an afterthought. I recommend this to anyone who likes sporty romances.
I previously read and reviewed a different book by this author and said I wasn't a fan of the present tense POV. I'm usually not, it's a hard POV to write smoothly in, but in this book Simons does a great job of it, and I actually really appreciated how it seemed to help set the tone of the story. The characters had quality arcs, there was a satisfying (for the reader) resolution for all characters involved, and the plot was solid and interesting. The side characters served a purpose and were well fleshed out, and if the next book isn't about Iris I'll be deeply upset! She was well developed as both entertaining and endearing. My only criticism is a light one: the main characters could have been more deeply explored. We know a lot about who they are as the story unfolds, and a tiny bit about who they were when the backstory went down, but nothing else really. We learn the main character has a supportive mom who was a single parent. But that's basically it as far as background. We don't even really get insight into why Tessa made the choices she did. There's a token reason given - fear, but no understanding developed of why she was so afraid, why she is a runner - of what is behind that. If we knew those things, it would not only give us more insight and empathy for her past actions, but also be more impactful when she works to overcome those tendencies, particular her internal process and thoughts in the scene after meeting with Zoe's ex, which I thought was particularly well written. I get that this book is aquick read, but I think that could have been integrated without making it much longer. Overall, it was a good read, the author's writing style is growing on me. The narrative voice she cultivates is distinctive, which I think is a big part of an author standing out enough to want to follow.
A baller needs to get medical clearance after having a baby ten months prior, to rejoin her team. Being away from the team is one thing but having the younger player take her spot makes getting in shape to win a spot so much harder. Knowing the team has a new well known doctor is making her nervous as they don’t know her and how hard she has played. Seeing who the new doctor is takes her anger about her ex and his attempt to seek custody to a minimum while she lets loose her anger at her other ex, the doctor, who left her heartbroken seven years ago. This was a well rounded story with anger, hurt and unconditional love of a child. Game chatter helps…
As someone who will always pick up a sports romance, especially one centered on women’s sports, I really enjoyed this one. Clara Ann Simons highlights a topic that doesn’t get nearly enough attention: returning to elite sport after maternity leave. I loved Zoe’s journey back to the game and the balance between motherhood, identity, and ambition.
The romance between Zoe and Tessa was sweet and easy to root for, and the book itself is a quick, satisfying read. It may not be especially deep, but it delivers exactly what I wanted.
3.5 stars. I don’t realize this book was so short until I was about a quarter of the way through. By short I mean 177 pages, FYI. This book went the speed of light in everything; and the time skips were so long I could barely keep up! I’m still recovering from how fast they both kissed and got back together! It’s insane how Zoe just welcomed Tessa back so quickly! This was only given 4 stars because I like this author and I loved the plot premise of this book! Anyway, decent book.
Second chance. What happens when you run from the love of your life and seven years later find yourself at the same soccer team.
Great story, characters relatable, enjoyed how the team supported Zoe & Tessa during video of Wesley and taking turns during practices to watch him. The mention of a color coded spreadsheet was adorable. Had to love Iris..
Always on the look out for sports and romance. This fit the bill...a little angst, a little sports action and two characters i felt atuned to, along with supporting cast. A feel good story that I would recommend to everyone
Love, Love, Love! Anatomy of Us is a terrific read. I greatly enjoyed reading about Tessa and Zoe’s relationship that was a reconnection. Also, I really liked the sports action. This is another example of Clara Ann Simons’ work.
Took this story to the beach with me( in Florida) Very enjoyable story. Love the characters. Hopefully there's an Iris book and she's with Jade! Read this book. You'll understand what I'm talking about
How far are you willing to go for the one you love? A soccer star recovering from giving birth to her son and a sports doctor who left her before, find out when they end up at the same team. And adorable story. TV
Good pacing, great story, and mostly loveable characters (except for he who shall remain nameless). I enjoyed the details of the games. I look forward to more from this author.
Someone leaves you out of the blue and then comes back after seven years and you’re only mad for a few seconds!!! This book felt rushed. Some details felt like an afterthought to tie up the story (e.g Nate’s partner posting the baby on socials).

3.5⭐️ - A quick same-day read! I enjoyed the plot and found myself growing attached to the personalities of all the characters!! Just a little too short for my personal liking… I would’ve loved for it to delve a little deeper into the day-to-day.
I loved this book, I wish it were a little longer because I loved the characters. But, it’s probably for the best. It was a nice short read I read it in a day.
