Award Winning Australian horror writer and director Chris Sun's first book 'ED'

Ed Gein was like a horrific road accident, a man whose crimes were so depraved and macabre you just couldn't look away. He became the classic horror icon for such fictional characters as Norman Bates, Leatherface and Buffalo Bill. Regardless of the notoriety, nobody would ever really understand Gein like Larry.

Ed was an artist and Larry understood what inspired him. Larry saw the same thing when he looked at human skin, the seductive promise of screaming and begging, the raw unadulterated feeling of power. Unlike Ed Gein who robbed graves for his prize, Larry took pleasure in a warm, living body bleeding into his hands. He took all that pain and terror and turned it into beauty. Just like Ed, Larry took a fucked up world and made it something more.

Nobody could stop him, he held all the power. It didn't matter if you were man, woman, young, old, pretty, ugly, skinny or fat. If you were living and breathing, you were potential art.

Prologue

The room he worked in was a chaotic mess of filth and carnage. The furniture was aged and moldy, a sweetened metallic scent hung in the air. The man sat at an old table, paint peeling from its timber surface. The lamp he worked under flickered, once, twice. His brow furrowed with irritation and he reached out to tap the bulb. The flickering stopped immediately and he stared at it a moment longer, as if daring it to flicker again before resuming his work. A Louis XV antique timber chair sat on the bench beside him. It was one of those chairs with carved legs and scalloped aprons, giving the piece a French provincial flare. He had just finished re-varnishing the piece and had removed the cushion to re-upholster it. The original silk cover lay tossed carelessly to one side.

He grunted under his breath as he took the waxed thread in his teeth, trying to force his needle through the new cover he was constructing. Once the thread was forced through the thick hide, he gripped the needle in this teeth and reached for another piece to add to the segment he is working on. With dexterous fingers he placed the new piece of hide over the first, then slipped the needle from his mouth once more. It took even more force to push the needle through this time, but with a resounding POP, it punctured the tough hide and his smile was wide and pleased.

He continued on like this for a few moments more, adding segments, stitching, admiring. Once finished he reached for the naked foam cushion and lay the new cover over it and the timber seat base of the elegant chair. Taking a staple gun in his hand he forced the hide tight along one edge then raised the gun and began to staple down the new cover. The resounding click of the gun was loud in the quiet room as he stapled one full length, then another, then another. CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, he methodically worked his way around the chair, pulling the hide taut as he went.
Finally, the chair was finished, fully assembled and new. It was a masterpiece and he grinned with morbid delight.

It was a fucking work of art...

My name is Kirsty Dallas and I write romance...and as of January 2015, I also work on out of this world, mind blowing horror!

I have long been a friend and fan of Chris Sun and have watched him grow from the new kid on the block to a full-blown professional and shit!

Chris is Quintin Tarantino rolled into a Stephen King suit (although he hates to wear suits), with a dash of Hitchcock and a little of James Wan on the side, at least I think so. His films have taken the world by storm and now his novel, ED, is going to follow in their footsteps.

Ed is an unapologetically gritty and raw read. The lead male, Larry is as crazy as a sack full of ferrets and the journey he will take you on is one of pain, blood, guts and gore, with a healthy serve of humor, some cool 80's music and an insight into the mind of one crazy fucker.

I am not only honored to be working with Chris on his debut novel, it's my absolute pleasure, even if he does keep calling me a kinky bitch and he uses the word SHAFT like it's cool or something, (dick Chris, Dick!).

I have no doubt Chris is going to carve his way through the world of literature, much like he did and continues to do in the world of film.

This book was very hard to read. When I began reading it, the main character, Larry, reminded me of Patrick Bateman. A lot. As you read further, it’s more like Patrick Bateman's amateur cousin to the 10th power on steroids. Larry was not likable at the least and the bits that were supposed to be funny didn't land with me. With my taste in horror movies and novels, I thought I would dig this. But, it was a little too much gore for me. This book in general was a little too much for me. No bones about it, read at your own risk.

I gave 2 stars for the little twist at the end

With this being the MOST GRAPHIC and violent book I think I have ever read....I have to admit; I LOVED the main character Larry, and his obsession with Ed Gein!

WARNINGS: THIS BOOK IS NOT, AND I SAY AGAIN....NOT FOR EVERYONE!!! SEVERE AND EXTREME HORROR AND TORTURE SCENES THROUGHOUT!

Larry is obsessing over his fascination with seriel killer of the 50's Ed Gein and he cannot get enough of his disgusting horrors of the human mind. He wants to live out the life of Ed Gein by reinacting his crimes.....but he NEEDS to be more disgusting and sick than the Ed Gein version!! Yes, that is all I am going to say about this disturbing; but yes; Oh SO SO fun 'torture Horror Porn' novel by Chris Sun!
Highly recommended ONLY to those who can handle it.

The true story of Ed Gein is truly horrifying. Chris did an amazing job with his book. The body horror of this is truly horrendous. He was definitely one sick individual. If you’ve not read this book, you should!

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This is in no way reflected in my opinion of this book.

Ed is American Psycho meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This story is gory and nearly all the characters are twisted. It's a fun and fast paced slasher movie in book form. Unfortunately this book
had two problems for me. The first is that it didn't break any new ground. If you're a fan of extreme horror then you've seen all of this before. It doesn't make the story any less fun to read, just kind of familiar. The second, and much bigger problem for me comes toward the end of the book. There are three different scenarios presented to the reader that could be what's happening with the main character, Larry. I can't really expand on that without spoilers and I try not to give those so I'll just say that it made the ending confusing. I hope it will be cleared up with a sequel. All in all Ed is an enjoyable read for me and my fellow gore hounds. I wouldn't recommend it for the easily offended or squeamish. A solid 3.5 star read.

I really really liked this book. It's not something I would normally read and I thank Kirsty Dallas for giving me a copy.
Larry is obsessed with Ed Gein and wants to recreate and better some of the things that Ed created. The difference being Ed's victims were already dead while Larry likes to go out and find the perfect canvas.
This book has some serious OMG moments, as well as some LOL moments. If you're game and want to try something different I suggest you give Ed a go.

I was so excited for this - but the sheer number of grammatical errors, incorrect names used, and spelling mistakes ruined this for me. This DESPERATELY needs a proper editor and shouldn't have been published with this many mistakes. I enjoyed the twist and it's definitely very graphic if you're into that, but the issues with the writing just took me straight out of the world.
