Elvie Grace

4 books22 followers
Elvie is a UK-based romantasy and urban fantasy author who loves writing emotionally rich, character-driven stories with grit, magic, and heart. Her debut novel, To Save the Few, blends brutal worldbuilding, slow-burn romance, and powerful themes of sisterhood, survival, and the blurred lines between good and evil. When she's not crafting worlds where fae and mortals clash or vampires stalk the streets, she's working in events at a university, wrangling spreadsheets by day and plot twists by night.

Outside of writing, Elvie lives in a happily chaotic home with her puppy, three mischievous cats, and an extremely zen tank of fish. She’s autistic, proudly neurodivergent, and passionate about creating stories where outsiders find belonging, power, and love—often in the most unexpected places.

You can usually find her daydreaming about her next book, sipping too much tea, or whispering sweet nothings to her plot bunnies.

I say I am speechless after reading this book, and that I have no words...but this review will include A LOT of words.

The easiest 5 stars ever to this book, once again I am truly blown away by Elvie Grace's incredible writing!!! To Save the Few has been my favourite book of the year so far, so when I found out there was a second book, I was so unbelievably excited. And this book did not disappoint, it was absolute perfection!! I immediately want to reread!

Now onto the details...

Plot:
After the ending of book 1, I actually had no idea where book 2 would go. Even so, this plot blew me away. There was a lot of fantasy politics and political intrigue in this second book, which I felt was absolutely necessary to the plot, and not overwhelming at all, as it often can be. I never knew what was coming next in this book, it was full of excitement, tension, sadness, it took me through a roller coaster of emotions. There was an incredible mix of battles, romance, politics, magic and humour in this book, we really follow Seren through such an emotional journey!! And the twists and revelations at the end, I was sooo shocked😭

Magic system:
The magic system is incredible and so unique. Throughout this book we follow the FMC Seren who is learning to use the new powers/magic she possess, and I love that we learn with her whilst reading. I really felt her struggles and determination when she was going through this! I am so excited to see more of this in the next book (begging for a book 3) I also really enjoyed discovering more about the Dark Fae (I wont give spoilers as they are a big part of the book)

Romance:
My favourite thing in romantasy books is when there is slow burn. And I dont mean hating eachother for half the book and then being in love by the end of book 1. I mean the most slow and torturous slow burn...and that is exactly what this book has😭😭 their entire interactions will have your pulse racing and your hands clenched just waiting for something to happen (in the best way possible🤣) This book is the definition of slow burn, enemies to lovers, and it does it sooo perfectly!!! Not to mention that bathtub scene...okay Elvie you have written a masterpiece and this scene proves it. I had literal goosebumps!!! The way I went from kicking my feet to wanting to throw my kindle in seconds!

Main characters:
Seren as a main character is definitely a somewhat unlikeable character but I believe that is completely purposeful and it's not in an insufferable way. This girl has been through a lot and has been thrown into a new world with new powers and has been through grief!! I completely related to the way she dealt with these emotions and events, and loved that it wasn't brushed over how much they would have affected her! Yes she was somewhat mean, but I honestly saw myself in the way she reacted and I completely understood her. And wow Astrophel is truly the god of all MMC's😭 Seren could punch him in the face and he'd say sorry. He is such an incredibly written MMC, in the way that he is morally grey to others but so devoted to the people he loves. I also really enjoyed reading his POV chapters in this book, it was so fun to read from his perspective.

Side characters:
All of the characters are sooo well written and developed!! I can so easily differentiate their personalities and feelings as individuals. I adore the found family in this book, all of the side characters are so lovable, and have such unique personalities. I feel like I could read a novella for every one of them (Elvie this is me petitioning for a Sol and Margot book please). The banter and humour between the characters I absolutely loved!! Also I am the happiest person ever because Brunellius was back🤣

World building and writing:
Although this was book two, there was still such incredible world building! I felt so immersed into this world, I could picture absolutely every scene, and was so incredibly engrossed by the writing. I am dyslexic so I always read my books with an audiobook, it just helps me a lot, and usually I struggle with arcs (which is why I don't often sign up for them) but with Elvie's writing I have never ever had a problem reading it and staying focused or engaged. I don't know what she puts into these books, but not once did I struggle to pick this book up...if fact I struggled to put it down!! The way this writing made me feel every emotion that Seren felt was incredible, I had physical reactions and literal goosebumps during some scenes! I am always amazed by how truly immersive Elvie's writing is!

Conclusion:
Thank you so much Elvie for sending me this ARC, I am completely and overwhelmingly obsessed with this series and this book. So if anyone needs a sign to read it. This is it. A BIG FAT 5 STARS FROM ME🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks for listening to my rambles😉

What to expect:
Fae • Second chance • Soul mates • Strong FMC •What's mine is yours • Secret identity • Life after loss • Tension • Multiple POV's •

I had the best time with this book; I flew through it.

We pick right back up where we left it in book 1. Our FMC Seren is still struggling to get hold of this new magic surging through her.

And all of a sudden, all the rulers of the different realms want a on claim her.
She is constantly being manipulated and forced into alliances that do sit right with her.
But Seren isn't the type to just sit back and do as she is told; no, she fights back when something feels off. She questions everything.

Sometimes I think she comes off as mean, but I don't think its intentional, she is just having an internal battle with herself and her magic.

I loved Seren's inner monologue, especially when it was about Astrophel 😂

Our MMC Astrophel, he was struggling in this book, he knew what he wanted but needed to respect Seren's decisions. I really felt for him. I was rooting for them the whole time.

Loved the multiple POV's in this one. I love getting the individual thoughts and feelings.

I really enjoyed the immersive writing in this one, I could feel all the emotions the characters were going through. And boy oh boy, we got through all the emotions, happiness, devastation, heartbreak, betrayal.

The chemistry and yearning between the two MC's was fantastic. 👏🏽

The plot was fast paced and action packed!! So many twists and reveals in this book. The hits just kept on coming!

Eiran - What the hell happened to him! Not a fan at all.

Amaris was a standout in this book. Giving all the bestie vibes.

Eeek another cliffhanger... 🤯 cant wait to see what the Author does in the next book.

Defiantly recommend this one.

Thank you to the Author for sending me a copy of your book.

I am having a blast reading this series and will now be patiently waiting for book three!!

Book two picks up not long after the end of book one. The FMC Seren is struggling hugely, with grief, with loneliness, with the huge changes she’s been through, with her magic etc. and I mean she is really struggling and it was so sad but at the same time I was pleased that it wasn’t glossed over. She really went through it and through this book she has to learn to fight and to find her determination and her belief in herself.

Astrophel is one of my favourite MMC’s, he is immaculate and I won’t hear a word said against him!! My heart ached for him throughout this book as he really is pulled in so many directions.
The yearning and slow burn between these two characters is so good.

This series has such great found family, the side characters are all so distinct and all have such clear and individual personalities. Sol is my absolute favourite and I am desperate for more interaction between him and Margot.
Brunellius is such an adorable addition and I was pleased to see him pop up again in this book.

The world building is descriptive and immersive without being heavy and the magic system is unique. There are some great twists throughout the book and the ending was wild. I can’t believe I now have to wait for book three to find out what happens to these characters.

What Remains of Us
Elvie Grace

This was a fantastically frustrating sequel to To Save the Few. (This review will contain spoilers for book one. For my spoiler-free review of To Save The Few, click here.)

To Save The Few establishes our worldbuilding and love triangle, and reveals that our main character, Seren, is a changeling. In book two, she is forced to come to terms with and learn to control a power she never wanted, surrounded by Fae who are deeply suspicious of her.

To further aggravate our readers, Seren's guilt and suspicion overpower her so greatly that her slow-burn romantic relationship grinds to a frustrating halt as she seeks to avoid her love interest, who hasn't been entirely truthful with her about her powers or their bond.

This is a political, angsty volume that certainly doesn't wrap up this romantasy series and leaves you with more questions than answers. With that said, the angst in this novel, while sometimes pretty extra, is believable under the war-torn Fae realm and our characters' changing circumstances.

I may have yelled outright at this book, to the great alarm of my husband.

If you want a series that will potentially destroy you, I recommend To Save The Few and What Remains of Us by Elvie Grace.

⭐⭐⭐⭐½

I was excited to come back to the realms and see this raging group pick up the pieces after the death of Queen Celestis.

Having inherited powers we find Seren getting used to her new life. She is mourning the Human past and trying to figure out her place now. Not only in another world but with added uncontrollable powers, but yet she must learn to control them. She goes through a very human response of struggle, anger, resentment and finally acceptance and with acceptance comes the fight!

Her sheer stamina blew me away and luckily sbe has a lot of back up from Amaris, and others around her but also faces distrust from others. Can she prove herself?

Astrophel is the mmc I love the most, quiet and brooding and yet still powerful due to respect earned. He protects those not just he loves but literally everyone in tbe realm. He too is fighting a dark side due to his Mother and upbringing and he is truly *chefs kiss*.

The world building is amazing and filled with mythical creatures from sprites to brownies (Brunellius 😍), familiar and fae

This story has Found family, enemies to lovers, slow burn and yearning galore. I am very invested in the next installment.

I recieved tbis book as an advanced copy from Elvie Grace and all opinions are truthful and mine!

🧝‍♀️ ARC Review 🔮

"I could die right here, right now, and be content with the fact that somehow the gods bestowed upon me the privilege of looking at you right now, right as you are."

This was a fun follow-up to To Save The Few! It had lots of moving pieces what with the politics of the different kingdoms - and now with Seren shoved in the middle and her having to find herself and her place in this world.

The tension and slow burn romance has that nice - 'what's happening' aura - that kept me guessing.

Astrophel...sigh. I sure do like him. He has so much to deal with as the commander. Does he ever get a day off?!?

Margot, Margot, Margot. 😆 Just chill, girl! 🤪 She's...something. Honestly, all of the minor characters bring distinct personalities to the book and I love some of them and would go insane if I had to spend any time around some others. 🤣

If you like Fantasy with a side of romance, politics, or the struggles of fated mates, you may like this book.

I am all the emotions right now!!

If you think that you will leave this book happy? You will, but also, you really won’t.
There are so many plot threads that are still open and my mind is spinning trying to figure out where this will go next, I’m desperate for more.
Seren is such an incredible character, so well written but so damn dumb!!!! (Affectionately) I truly relate actually.
Really, all I can actually put into words (after THAT ENDING) is that this is an excellently written, complex story, it’s such a unique take on fantasy with a sprinkling of romance. I can’t wait to get my hands on more from this world, and urge you to read it, so I can have someone to yap with. (I can’t really keep yelling at Elvie lol)

Thank you so much to the author for an advanced copy, (apologies I’m a few days late) all opinions are my own and point to you reading this series.

I really enjoyed continuing Seren and Astrophel’s journey in this ARC read. I liked that Seren’s take on being suddenly thrust into a position of finding out she was Fae and gaining magic was not immediate mastery and joy about the changes. Instead she went through a very human series of emotions and reactions as she worked to learn to use her newfound magic.

I thought the yearning, tension, and spice between her and Astrophel was just right. Not too much to where it overshadowed the plot but enough that you didn’t feel things were unrealistically chaste either.

All in all, another really good entry into this series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

ARC review

I'm so glad I had this lined up directly after reading "To save the few" otherwise I would have gone nuts waiting for the next part of the story! I really enjoyed the continuation and it had me very emotional with some parts. More slow burn that was so satisfying when it got there but also made it extra emotional with the events that happened after. I liked that it wasn't a thing of being an expert in magic immediately upon finding out Seren is actually fae but rather that she had to learn everything from scratch and learn how to control it. I hope that there will be a book 3!

Received as an eARC.

From start to finish this had me HOOKED.
I laughed out loud and teared up.

Elvie had me feeling all the emotions on this one. After the cliffhanger of To Save the Few, we see Seren navigate through the depths of grief and the struggle with the new war that’s brewing.

Definitely one to add to the bookshelf!

I really thought this was the finale of this series, but I’m sad now because I have to wait for the rest. I am loving this series so much. I can’t wait for more. These characters have grown close to my heart. I’ve really loved getting to know them. I’ll be sad to finish their story.
