*ARC REVIEW*

Super fun read! Finished book one last week and went straight into this one, I was so hooked on the story! Really enjoyed that this book gave us a deeper look into the characters and a lot of world building. The dual point of view gives you a look into so many character’s minds and I LOVED it! The tension between Ava and River is just chef’s kiss! But, even more so, what seems to be growing between Ava and Isaac has me on my toes wondering if Ava somehow has two mates?!? The banter between characters in this story is truly top tier. Miriam and Michael! Oh, gosh is the banter great! Very curious to see if something will happen there as well! Willow has been an interesting character to get a POV from. On the surface, Willow is easily passed off as an annoying and rude side character. But, I really think there may be some potential there with her chance at becoming queen of the Water Kingdom. Although, her interaction with her first professor has me wondering if she is capable of change. There seemed to be a little less action in this sequel. However, I think it was a good trade off for all of the insight we gained with the characters. It has me all the more invested in each one of them, and therefore the storyline as well! The ending took me completely by surprise! As we got to the end of the book, it was clear that something big would happen to take us into the hopeful third book. But, I never would have guessed that the gods/goddesses would be getting involved! I’m SO interested to see where this picks up and where it takes us in the next book. I wish we had gotten a little more progression with the crone search. But, maybe the gods getting involved will take us further in that search! Or even take the search elsewhere. Will be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series!

Such a fun read! The world-building and characters have become so much more intricate in this second book. And the side plots are plotting!

I am so invested in this story now.

The Tale of Losing Flames, the second book in The Tale of Kindred Flames series by Sandra Winter… wow. Just...wow. I absolutely devoured this book!

From the very first page, I was completely hooked again. Every chapter pulled me deeper into the story, and I constantly found myself wondering how everything would unfold next. And just when you think you might get answers… you don’t. In the best (and most frustrating) way possible. The tension, the mystery, the buildup it all keeps you on edge and fully invested.

The world building continues to be one of the strongest elements of this series. It’s rich, immersive, and so easy to get lost in. Sandra Winter has created a setting that feels vivid and alive, and in this second installment, it only becomes more layered and compelling. You’re not just reading the story you’re completely pulled into it.

The plot itself is incredibly engaging and well paced. There’s always something happening, something developing, something pulling you forward. It never feels slow, and I genuinely didn’t want to put the book down. This is one of those reads where you say just one more page … and suddenly hours have passed.

One of the things that has me completely hooked on this series is the dynamic between River and Avari. Their storyline is so intriguing and layered that I constantly found myself wanting more. The way their connection is developing feels complex and full of tension, and I need to know how their story unfolds. It’s one of the driving forces that kept me turning the pages, and now I’m even more desperate for book three.

Please, Sandra don’t make me wait too long, because I am genuinely losing my mind over here.
Overall, this sequel delivers everything I hoped for and more: strong world building, an addictive storyline, and that constant feeling of needing to know what happens next. If you enjoyed book one, this is absolutely a must read and be prepared, because you won’t want it to end.

ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Tale of Longing Flames takes everything from the first book and raises the stakes—emotionally, politically, and personally.

The multiple POVs and diverse backgrounds add so much depth to the story. Seeing the world through different eyes makes the conflict feel bigger and more layered, and it keeps the pacing engaging throughout. Each perspective brings something new, and it’s clear the story is building toward something much larger.

Ava and River’s relationship is anything but simple in this installment. The idea that they might be fated mates lingers, but betrayal casts a long shadow. Their connection feels tense, complicated, and very real—because forgiveness isn’t easy, and the story doesn’t pretend it is. Still, it’s impossible not to root for them and hope they find their way back to each other.

The introduction of new characters really shakes things up—and not always in a good way (in the best sense for readers!). Some of them are incredibly frustrating, the kind that truly get under your skin. That’s where Sandra Winter’s writing shines: she makes you feel—whether it’s anger, frustration, or even hatred toward certain characters.

And then there’s Anya, the dragon, who absolutely steals every scene she’s in. Her wit, sarcasm, and personality bring a refreshing spark to the story and balance out some of the heavier moments perfectly.

The ending? A full-on cliffhanger that leaves you stunned. It opens the door to what feels like an entirely new world and has you sitting there thinking, wait… what just happened?? It’s the kind of ending that makes you desperate for the next book.

Overall, this is a gripping, emotional sequel that deepens the story while leaving you wanting more.

What to expect:
⁂ Dragons
⁂ Enemies to lovers
⁂ Forced proximity
⁂ Morally gray MMC
⁂ Fated/Forbidden pull
⁂ Found family
⁂ Betrayals
⁂ Witches & Fae Politics
⁂ Dragon Rider Bond
⁂ Goddesses/ Gods

We picked right back up where we left book 1.

Avari (Ava), is still trying to come to terms with what River did at the end of book 1.
River is trying his absolute hardest to win back her trust. And struggling with wanting her back in his Kingdom with him but not wanting to push her away.
There is so much to unpack between these two. ITS EMOTIONAL AND COMPLICATED!

The chemistry between Ava and River was off the charts 🤌

Character progression in this book was fantastic.

Loved we got multiple POV's in this one.

I live for the inner monologue between Anya and Ava. Its hilarious. 🤣

"Boring. Swet some shit on fire. Live a little. Scorch his hair for betraying you. Burn your father's moustache for annoying you. Do something to make me proud of you."

"If she couldn't, it wouldn't be as deviating. Ava chooses not to, awaiting the special occasion where the eclipse meets the rainbow and shooting stars align the path to her crotch."

Willow is hard work! I don't like her character at all, she is mean and doesn't care that, what she does and says hurts people.

I loved Miriam and Michaels interactions and the banter between these two was soo good!

The world building in this one was phenomenal. Very detailed and beautifully written.

The plot was plotting away the whole time.

The ending I did not see coming at all! Left on a massive cliffhanger!

Definitely recommend this book.

The Tale of Longing Flames: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Sandra Winter is an intoxicating blend of dark fantasy and sizzling romance. From the very first page, you’re swept into a world where passion and danger intertwine in the most tantalizing ways. Winter has crafted a setting that’s as fiery and dangerous as the romance at the heart of it all—perfect for those who crave a little heat with their magic.

The chemistry between the characters is undeniable and electric. Every stolen glance, every heated encounter, pulls you deeper into their complex, intense dynamic. There’s something undeniably forbidden and irresistible about their relationship, making it impossible to look away. Winter does an amazing job of balancing the steamy moments with deep emotional connections, creating a romance that’s both fierce and vulnerable.

The world-building is lush, filled with dark, mythical elements that add a layer of mystery to the story. The fantasy elements are just as thrilling as the romance, and the plot keeps you guessing, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes.

Though the pacing is a bit slow at times, especially when building tension, once the flames of passion truly ignite, the story burns bright and fast. And let’s just say, the final moments are worth the wait.

If you love dark fantasy with an intense, spicy romance that will leave you breathless, The Tale of Longing Flames is a must-read.

This was everything I wanted for book two!!

We get a bit more politics and a lot more world building!!!

Ava has, understandably, complicated feelings for River after his betrayal. When she is forced to work with him too find the Crones I just wanted them to work things out! The tension, the looks, the heat, you just feel for them.

Avas' relationship with her dragon Anya is also more present and I just love her!! Her witt, humour and forwardness just suits Ava and her personality.

Michael and Miriam I just smile and laugh at those two and their interactions!

Willow, Ava's sister, is unfortunatly with them in the shadow land with Avas father and the rest of her family. She is just very hard to like!

When you dislike someone very much and find someone hard to like because of what they do, or say. Sandras writing is excellent in turning it around when we get bits and pieces of their story along the way.

Alec and willow will be interesting to see what happens in time there!

I loved that is was multiple point of views from every character and their perspective.

The last 50 pages there's just so much happening!!! I was just flabbergasted and confused in the end!!

I neeeed book three like yesterday!

Thank you Sandra for the ARC and the devestating end that will leave me waiting for the next book!

Review of an ARC provided by the author via BookFunnel

I should have known this wouldn’t end with closure…
and yet here I am - emotionally involved, slightly betrayed, and already waiting for book three.

This is very much a second book in a fantasy series - more world-building, more moving pieces, more POVs, more chaos. A true bridge book… and honestly? It worked.

Now listen - I usually hate multiple POVs.
But this one?? Yeah… I ate it up.

The added perspectives brought depth, tension, and just the right amount of drama. The banter, the emotion, the character work - Sandra Winter, what are you putting in these books??

"..Do you have my repellent?"
"like for insects?"
"What? For men"
"Preach sister, somebody should invent that shit"
😂😂😂

Character Intervention Time 🚨 / (I need a word with all of you)
Isaac - suspicious. I’m watching you 👀
River - step it up and grovel properly, please and thank you.
Alec - no notes. You go, Glen Coco.
Michael - chef’s kiss😘 Now go help your brother.

Avari - respectfully, READ THE DAMN BOOKS. Stop waiting for crumbs of information and DO something.
Miriam - Luke is gone (as he should be). Growth looks good on you, keep it up.
Willow - no notes. Problem solver, chaos bringer, icon behavior.

locked and waiting on book 3!

The moment I finished A Tale of Kindred Flames, I jumped straight into A Tale of Longing Flames. I didn’t even pretend I was going to take a break and devoured it in a day. This sequel expands the world in all the right ways. The multiple POVs are one of the biggest strengths here, giving a fuller picture of each character’s journey and the emotional pull of finding their mate. It adds so much depth and makes the story feel richer and more layered.

One thing I really loved this time around was the sheer amount of banter. Every character brings their own flavour of humour and attitude, and it keeps the pacing lively even in the quieter moments. And the men? Completely, hopelessly devoted to their mates, even when their mates have absolutely no idea. That dynamic adds a delicious tension throughout.

I’ll admit I’m still wishing the FMC and MMCs’ romantic path would move a bit faster. Their chemistry is undeniable, and I’m impatient to see it fully ignite. But even with the slow progression, the character development and emotional stakes kept me hooked

The world continues to grow in fascinating ways, the relationships deepen, and the stakes feel higher with every chapter. Add in that cliff‑hanger ending! I should have known there wouldn't be a nice, neat ending, and I’m already chomping at the bit for the next instalment.

PLEASE STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND ADD THE TALE OF LONGING FLAMES TO YOUR TBR NOW!

I just finished The Tale of Longing Flames, and I am officially in love with this series. Sandra Winter has done it again! If you thought The Tale of Kindred Flames was good, (which it is - read it too 🤣), this sequel takes the tension, the stakes, and the sass to a whole new level.
Now here are my thoughts on why you need this series in your life…

First of all - the tension between River and Avari... I am DYING. The connection is deadly, the pull is magnetic, and the slow burn is agonising in the best way possible. Ava holds fast and fights the pull, while River is cheeky and smug and doesn’t give up! There’s a Sassy AF Dragon who has a comment or opinion on everything. Anya is hands-down my favourite. Her sarcastic commentary is the highlight of every chapter and had me laughing out loud at times! The stakes are high as the Bloodwitches are truly terrifying, and the ending? Well my jaw is still on the floor.
Sandra’s style is so immersive and easy to fall into. You don’t just read this book; you live in it. I have so many questions about the ending and Avari’s role in it. I am counting down the seconds until Book 3 is released!

I was extremely grateful to be gifted an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own. I rated this a 5 ⭐️ read as I enjoyed it immensely.

After everything she endured in Kindred Flames, Avari is no longer the same girl caught between kingdoms and expectations. The weight of betrayal, power, and identity still follows her, but now there’s a deeper sense of consequence to every choice she makes. Nothing feels simple anymore—especially not when it comes to trust, loyalty, or survival.
The tension between kingdoms continues to build, and the stakes feel even higher as old truths unravel and new dangers emerge. Avari is still very much caught in the middle of forces far bigger than herself, but there’s a noticeable shift in her growth—she’s beginning to understand her own strength, even when everything around her feels unstable.
Relationships deepen in this installment, especially where emotions were left hanging in the first book. There’s a slow burn of connection, conflict, and longing that makes every interaction feel meaningful and charged with history. At the same time, the political and magical conflicts keep the story moving at a steady, gripping pace.
Sandra Winter continues to build a rich world filled with magic, pain, and power struggles, while also focusing on the emotional impact those things have on Avari. The title fits perfectly—this book really leans into desire, loss, and the pull between duty and heart.

After being invested since book 1, this installment to the series brings more of this world to the readers..that keep on being interesting. This story takes on layering elements, or rather those "flames" are reaching out towards other places and aspects within this world.

Some side characters come into play that are compelling and great entertainment.. each character being really unique which showed beautifully through the writing. I actually am loving Willow's character! And the tension between the secondary character's 'love story' is off the charts!

The reason this book I rated 4 vs 5 like the first book is a level of dissapointment I have in the realationship between Averi and the King, as it was almost backseated and took a stale note comparably. Averi also held on to too stubbornly the betrayal notion when there were other betrayals considerably more intense, and the how she took on a self punishing nature -though I guess now that I am writing it out it makes sense generally, but reading it seemed a little ridiculous and unbelievable in its seemingly exaggeration/unwarranted feel.

The story remains compelling and fascinating, as I do look towards adding this to my physical bookself and await the next installment to this series!

im loving the multi pov, as opposed to the duel. It makes the world seem so much larger, and i love seeing where others end up.
Mariam and micheal are what i imagine his grandma and grandads early mating to be like. They bicker and have that pent-up love/hate tension going on.

" dont insult betty. she has feelings." 🤣

Im loving willows character development, even if it's small. she was so indoctrinated and groomed by their mother, so it was nice seeing her move away from that influence and start making a positive change to her moral compass, even if small. It would be nice to see if she actually manages to become a decent person.

I did, however, feel like nothing really happened in this book in terms of story progression. i felt many bits of the plot were missing, so im curious if they will be built on in the next one. This second book felt more like a build-up of context for the next book rather than a continuation from the first book.
Dont get me wrong it was still a good book. It builds on character relations and world building and provides so much more context.

ARC Review

I think this series is going to be my next obsession. I didn’t want this to end and I can only hope book 3 isn’t far off.

When I read the first book I felt like it was setting the scene for more, and boy oh boy…

In book 2 we get to follow more characters and there’s not a single one I don’t like. The female characters are all so sassy and witty in their own way. I was expecting to hate Willow, but I think she’s fast becoming one of my favourites. The males have the possessive traits you’d expect, but are emotionally mature and equally as sassy as the females. The tension between the different couples is reallllllllll.

The writing style is just so easy and fun to read, I just flew through these books, and caught myself at 90% and dreading it coming to an end.

I just hope the romance for the FMC is well worth the wait because this is a slowwwww burn! I have a feeling when it happens, it’s going to be something else.

Can’t wait for the next book, and thank you for the opportunity to ARC read, not sure how I’ll cope waiting for the third book 😅

ARC reader:

What can I say I had never heard of this series… then I read book one and thought okay I can get behind this then I read book two and now I’m itching for book three because what do you mean it’s finished…..

Book one is fast paced, a good set up/introduction to characters and is easy to follow but book two is where it is at. We get more POV’s, amazing character development, the plot gets CRAZY.

This book/ series as a whole is for someone that wants something fast paced but not rushed, something new in the Romantasy world but is easy to follow. It’s definitely got some ‘modern’ themes such as phones *not a spoiler* but I don’t feel that takes away from the magic of the world.

I’d recommend this series to someone getting into the genre and those that love it. While book one took me a couple days book two only took 24 hours (because I had to sleep and feed my children) all I can say is wow amazing for an indie author just starting out.

Book one: 3 stats
Book Two: 4.5
Book three: give it me to now!!

(3.5☆)I feel like the beginning of this book was slow to start. Coming off the ending of book 1, I was anxious to see what happened between River and Avari and yet not a lot continued between them. Understanding they would need time to recover from the betrayal but really, nothing happens. It felt like we got stuck in Avari's self wallowing and Rivers new self deprication for a lot of the book. Really missed their lighthearted playful banter.
I really enjoyed the new POV's. Especially Willows towards the end of the book. I'm really hoping we get more of her in the next book. Also hoping we get more answers as the storyline jumped around between the characters, finding the crones, and now gods??
Technology and fantasy worlds just don't mix well for me, so the cars, text messaging and phones didnt really vibe with the world I wanted to envision, but thats my own preference in fantasy books.

Overall its a fun read and I would have jumped right into the next book had it been available!

Book Two takes everything that made the first book compelling and pushes it further — deeper character development, higher stakes, and twists that somehow manage to outdo the original. Avari evolves in ways that feel earned and powerful; she’s still the fierce, determined force we loved in Book One, but now she’s sharper, more self‑aware, and even more compelling.

The plot expands outward, widening the world and raising the emotional and narrative tension. The author balances action with introspection beautifully, giving the story both momentum and heart. The twists don’t just surprise — they reshape your understanding of everything that came before.

It’s the kind of sequel that doesn’t just continue the story; it elevates it.

A bold, addictive follow‑up that deepens the world, sharpens the stakes, and cements Avari as an unforgettable lead.

"Close those pretty eyes and dream of me " ❤️

This was such a good sequel for book #1!

The banter between Avari and Isaac was so good and the yearning between Avari and The Fire King had me on edge through the whole book 🙈 This is still very slow burn but I don't mind because the banter and yearning is so good 🤭 Is the promised *why choose* -part going to be Isaac?? Can't wait to find out 🤩

Again I was giggling on one page and 10mins later sobbing on another page which I love🤌🏼

There were many new POV's in this book and while they were good additions I still wished a few times that there were only FMC and MMC POV's. Mainly because I don't like our slut princess Willow and didn't want to read her annoying thoughts about Alec 😂🙈 But that is all on me😅

And now I have to wait for the book #3 to come out!

I received this book as an ARC and am willing to leave a review 😊

Wow. I was able to jump right into this after reading the first book and for that I am grateful. The things I loved from book one

-Angst
-Longing
-Banter

We’re all present in this book as well and even exceeded book 1!

I enjoyed the multiple POV instead of just focusing on our two main characters from the first book. It’s giving a sense of world/relationship building that I am enjoying. I also loved the comedic relief in the dialogue! I laughed so much! While we haven’t fully met the spice of King River and Ava yet, the book makes up for it with Willow. Giving just enough spice to keep things interesting while still enjoying the longing from River and Ava. The twists are insane and even when I think I’ve figured something out I’m wrong which I love. The book does end on a cliffhanger just like book one does. I can’t wait to continue!

I enjoyed reading this book, although it did frustrate me at times. The FMC and MMC were not romantically involved in this book. There was some longing, but the FMC spent the entirety of the book nagging about how she couldn't forgive him and wanted things strictly platonic. They even shared a bed together and nothing happened! *Yawn*

Willow, the sassy sex addict sister was honestly my favorite character in this book. She had me laughing out loud, especially when she was calling other characters the wrong name. Her devil may care attitude was refreshing and she was the source of all of the spicy scenes.

What really got me was the crazy ending. It was very bloody and quite surprising. It really opened things up for the FMC. I'll come back for book 3, but please, Sandra, I need some Ava and River love!

Arc review

This book takes off right where book one left off and hits the ground running. In the wake of the chaos left behind from Ava's mother, we find our FMC needing to locate ancient crones in order to help stop her mother and preventing a resurgence of the blood witches. Still at large they have no idea where Ava's mother is or when she will strike. Ava has to team up with the man who broke her heart and her new family to try and stop her Mother. There are plot twists, there is tension, there is yearning, there's ANOTHER dragon, and potentially ANOTHER love interest (this is not confirmed I'm just reading between the lines and theorizing). There are also multiple POV's in this book, more so than just Ava and Dracon and there are new relationships forming. There is so much happening in this book and it ends on yet another huge cliffhanger, I cannot wait for book 3!

Such an enjoyable read!

I received this book along with the first one as an ARC from the author and let me say I can't wait to see what's next from her! (Thank you for sharing your books with me!)

I'm a sucker for a slow burn magic filled story with dragons and banter and these books did not disappoint. I love the development of the characters, especially between the two main characters and the growth they had together.

The world building improved a lot from the first book which made it easier to immerse myself in the story. I also really enjoyed the banter between characters and found myself giggling out loud multiple times!

Overall this was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to see where the story goes next!

If you like dragons, banter, magic and some spice these might be the books for you!

Loved the idea this book is going inand the story it has, but I felt it went to much into others POVs from all these other characters ( that in book 1 were side characters )
Don't get me wrong the new characters are important to the overall story and they have great moments as well as give some spicy scenes going with them but I kind of wanted to stick with the original MMC and FMC of book 1 for a bit longer and it in a way diluted their stories a bit to then go into at the end another with a cliff hanger! Need to know what happens so i am looking forward to book 3... whhaaatttt!!!!

I do love the idea and story this book has though and really wanted to love it completely but I just keep getting gaps.
But I love the characters and their individual stories I look forward to seeing if the FMC goes next level in book 3 ❤️

The 1st book already had some of my all-time favorite troupes:
dragons
fated mates
magic powers
a slow burn
BUT now we're adding an academy setting!! YES!😁 Please go ahead and sign me up for book 3!!!

Book 2 had so many new elements and world building with twists and turns that you'll never see coming.
While I love the chemistry between Avari and Dracon, I can't help but root for Isaac. They have such cute banter together.
However, I literally didn't see this ending coming.
I took a little bit of a star away because there were a lot more POVs in this story. While I appreciate and enjoy them, sometimes it made the transition from one chapter to another a little difficult.
Thank you for choosing me to be at ARC reader!

Received this ARC from the author for a review.
This book starts where book one finishes. There is so much going on in this book to keep you well engaged. I loved the multi point of views and all the characters.
There is still a lot of tension between Ava and River. While I certainly don’t want a FMC to be a doormate she is definitely taking her time to talk it out and forgive. That does drive me crazy sometime, and hope it resolves in the next book.

This book ends on such a cliffhanger, I hope we don’t have to wait to long for the next one. I’m really enjoying this story and the authors writing. The world building is even more detailed in this book.
I look forward to reading more of this author when new books come out.

I recently read The Tale of Longing Flames by Sandra Winter and found it to be an enjoyable, character-driven story. The pacing leans toward the slower side, which allows the relationships and emotions to build naturally, and the banter throughout adds a fun, engaging touch.
Avari’s journey as she tries to sort out her feelings is relatable and heartfelt, though at times parts of the story felt a bit drawn out, while other moments could have used more detail to fully bring them to life.
Overall, it’s a solid read with strong character moments and an easy flow—perfect for readers who enjoy a slower-paced fantasy with emotional depth and light humor.
I received an advance copy of this book at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.

**HONEST ARC REVIEW**

What a ride this book took me on with all of the twists and turns! The depth this story added to the plot felt very necessary & warranted. The world building continues and I feel like I’m becoming more and more immersed in this world and I’m for even more.

The storyline just feels natural to me in terms of flow and allows me to just jump straight in and understand what’s happening. I think part of this is due to all of the new POVs we got in this book, along with the introduction of new characters.

The rising tension between the main characters is really the icing on the cake..but as much as I love a slow burn I’m going to need it to burn a little faster in book 3!

That cliffhanger ending though? Ooof. I need the next book stat.

Book two picks up right where book one left off, throwing you straight back into the story. This instalment feels like it focuses heavily on expanding the overarching plotlines and setting the stage for the final two books. While it adds plenty of new layers and context, there isn’t much real resolution for either the new developments or lingering threads from book one.

I still enjoyed the read, but it would have been satisfying to see at least some closure within this instalment. One highlight was seeing growth from the FMC, particularly in her relationship with her witch sister. Additionally, I did enjoy the new POVs introduced in book 2. Overall, this feels very much like a bridge book—building anticipation for what’s still to come.

Unputdownable and full of surprises!
I completely devoured The Tale of Longing Flames. From the very first chapter, the twists and turns kept me guessing, making it impossible to put down.
The chemistry between Ava and River is electric—their relationship had me on tenterhooks the entire time! What really leveled up this read for me, though, was the multi-POV style. Getting inside the heads of Ava’s siblings (Willow, Miriam, and Alec) provided such a deep insight into their family dynamic.
While I enjoyed all the siblings, Willow was the standout for me. She completely surprised me toward the end, and her character arc took a turn I didn't see coming. I’m already itching for the next installment to see where these characters go next!

Firstly, I want to say thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC for this book.

The premise of this series is really interesting and I really enjoyed the overall plot however I did feel like there was a lot packed into this one book and I feel we could have done with the plot fleshing a little bit more and I feel like it would have made the experience even more enjoyable. The thing that threw me in the beginning was the use of modern day technology in a world that didn’t necessarily feel modern, but as I read more it didn’t bother me too much

I will definitely be continuing the series as I’m interested in where the story is going to go and I think it is definitely about to become more interesting
