"Welcome to Pompeii, bitch!"

The vastness of space is an excellent atmosphere to form a thesis for your dissertation, and an even better place for getting lost.

Peony Hill is a bright, refined, and intelligent woman working towards her doctorate in extra-terrestrial anthropology. It's a competitive field, but nobody is more determined to succeed and carve a name out for themselves than the recently crash-landed academic. Life is filled with ups and downs, and there is no use in lingering on the things you can't change! Especially when so much is at stake.

She's got one chance. Just one.

Pompeii is a steaming black rock filled with garbage, and Quickdraw is the volcanic planet's self-elected king.

Born and raised as a trash scrapper, the half alien led the imprisoned population in a revolution with nothing but a worn-out hat and an ancient earthling revolver. It's a lot of work being the head-champion-pain-in-the-ass to an entire army, but someones gotta do it.

Life is chaotic, fiery, and all around awful on Pompeii's isolated surface, and he's spent his whole life just waiting for the stars to gift him his hand of fate.

Until one day- her ship wrecks right in his backyard.

This is a land of retribution. Bound by the will of the stars.

I had such a blast with this book. It really appealed to me because I love:
1. Cowboys
2. Aliens
3. Autistic main characters

And boy howdy, this didn't disappoint! The world feels very rich and well built, lots of exciting action scenes and the romance is sweet, sexy and fun. Reminded me of Ice Planet Barbarians if it was a gun-slingin' western. The author was inspired by Borderlands and it shows in the best way. I really appreciated the autism rep in this book. As the author is autistic herself, the lived experience really shines through and makes Peony feel so real and grounded. I also loved the interesting alien lore!!

Pick this up if you love sexy alien cowboys, whip-smart autistic heroines, plots that keep you on the edge of your seat, and heartfelt, authentic love stories.
