The last time I ignored the red flags, I almost died.
Waking up in a body bag tends to put things into perspective.
My scars are a reminder to stay in my lane.
I don’t take risks. I don’t take candy from strangers. I don’t leave my doors unlocked, and I never, ever play with monsters.
Until Kenzo, My next red flag.
With his sinful looks and wicked mouth, he’s a silver-tongued devil in disguise, and my one-way ticket to hell.
Kenzo
Women are just a means to an end, a release after a day spent seeped in chaos and violence.
They’re all the blonde, curvy, interchangeable Barbie dolls.
I get in, get off, and get out.
That’s my motto for an easy life.
Until Trix. My new complication.
With her scarred body and haunted eyes, she quickly becomes my obsession, and broken dolls are much more fun to play with.
Author Kenzo is more villain than white knight so please only listen to Compel if you have a crooked moral compass and like your heroes on the deranged side like I do.
*This book plays with the darker side of love, such as obsession, infatuation, and the power plays made to obtain it.*
Compel is the second audiobook in Candice Wright’s dark, mafia romance series, Death in Bloom, but can easily be listened to as a standalone. This is a deliciously dark and twisty stalker romance with mafia vibes that will have you guessing to the very end. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you realize just how wrong you’ve really been. Kenzo and Trix are both fascinatingly-layered characters with compelling backstories and provocative storylines. Kenzo is the second to a very rich and powerful man but is also powerful in his own right. He quite literally runs into Trix and is instantly drawn to her. But this instant attraction quickly morphs into obsession when he can’t stop thinking about her. Cue the stalking. Trix is also instantly drawn to Kenzo but fights it to due to an overwhelming fear stemming from a tragic episode in her past. She instinctually knows he’s a dangerous man yet can’t deny her attraction. But if you think you can neatly cast these two as stalker and victim, you are gravely mistaken. There is so much more to these characters than first meets the eye, including a possible shared past. This story and their journey to love has so many twists and turns and what seems like a new revelation around every corner. But there’s also real depth and true emotion along with a deep love that will be tested in ways they could never imagine. This story is everything dark romance should be!
And the full-cast, duet-style narration is absolutely outstanding! This is a dream cast with the main characters being voiced by Desiree Ketchum and Bryant Walker and secondary characters voiced by Andi Eloise, Corvin King, and James Cassidy. Does it get any better than that? I think not. They all brought their A game with passionate, emotional, and layered performances. Together, they bring this incredible story to life beautifully by providing audio that is nothing short of enthralling.
Compel is a Dark Mafia Romance twisted and depraved just the way I like it! Shout out to the excellent narrators who really put the passion into these characters. Flawless execution. We have Desiree Ketchum (Trix), Bryant Walker (Kenzo), Corvin King (Atlas), Andi Eloise and James Cassidy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Let’s just say I did not see this book coming. After reading Coerce I HAD to jump straight into Compel. Yes I’m glad I could binge both books back to back (they consumed me). Let me tell you that if you read one you will want to read another. These books can be read as a standalone, but to get a better sense of Kenzo and the mafia world he lives in I would recommend reading Coerce first so you have a better understanding of the characters and their roles.
For the MCs we have Trix and Kenzo. Trix is trying to live her life under the radar and avoid anyone with red flags and just any men in general. She has had an abusive and traumatic past. Then we have Kenzo who is a the walking definition of that red flag. Girls are just his release at the end of a long violently filled day to him. Nothing more. Nothing less.
The story kicks off with him bumping into Trix in a market . From the moment he sees her haunted eyes she is his, she just doesn’t realize it yet. From that moment on we have stalking, infatuation, seduction and “touch her and die” tendencies. If you like your romances on the darker side then this book is for you! I would say more but I don’t want to give any of the goods away. Let’s just say we have lots of twists and turns and just when you think you have it figured out you’re slammed with another turn! Enjoy I sure know I did! Story: 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Compel is book #2 in the Death in Bloom dark romance series. In book #1 (Coerce), we definitely got a feel for how, um, strategically unhinged the MMCs can be. But what the what??? I did NOT see book #2 coming!! Trix has endured a very tragic past with emotional and physical scars as proof. Now she works for a cleaning service, keeping her head down and avoiding all the "red flags". Kenzo...he's a red flag. And now he's stalking her, obsessive over her, and will eliminate anyone who touches her. His past is dark and might be coming back to settle a score. She's just trying to get away from him. That is about all I can write without giving away the goods, but the plot twist on this one...totally blindsided me. And now I'm ready for sweet Pete's story...gah! It might completely undo me.
The multicast narration is spectacular. Bryant Walker and Desiree Ketchum are the voices of Kenzo and Trix. Corvin King (Atlas), James Cassidy (Pete), and Andi Eloise (Ivy) round out this cast of A-list narrators that deliver everything you imagine...and them some. Absolutely loved them all. 5/5 morally gray stars!!
Candice Wright has a masterful way of weaving intricate character dynamics with a plot that keeps you guessing. While Compel moves at a faster clip than the first book, the narrative is packed with clever Easter eggs and shocking reveals that make the payoff incredibly satisfying. It is a dark, high-stakes ride that hooks you immediately and refuses to let go.
As the second installment in the Death in Bloom series, Compel serves as a deep dive into the beautiful depravity of its central characters. Wright balances intense spice with a psychological depth that keeps your emotions in constant flux. The multicast narration elevates the experience to something truly cinematic; Desireé Ketchum and Bryant Walker lead a stellar cast that captures every nuance of the story’s grit and passion.
Compel is book 2 in the death in bloom, and while it gives you an intro to the characters and their utter depravity, the can be read stand alone.
Do not get me wrong this an incredibly dark romance, but it is also Candice Wright who will keep you on your toes constantly with your thoughts and emotions while still leaving you panting from the spice.
A full cast narration for this audio is fantastic. Desiree Ketchum and Bryant Walker as our main couple and POVs had me locked in, and it was truly rounded out with the voices of Andi Eloise, Corbin King, and James Cassidy.
Please do check your trigger warnings, but if you are depraved like me you will happily dive on in.
