Having put aside matters of a family larger than she ever conceived of, Evelyn must now confront the consequences of past choices, both hers and those of others. Though she returned for a specific purpose, civil war ravages Peldra, and Evelyn finds herself unable to turn a blind eye to the tragedies occurring. Especially when she learns details of what has occurred, it's difficult for her to refrain from a rampage. How fortunate that one of those responsible for the chaos made themselves a target.
I was born in October, 1985. Not much of my history would likely be of interest, but I grew up primarily in Utah, a land of ultra-conservative people, and yet oddly open to Science Fiction and Fantasy.
I started trying to write in high school. That didn't go well, and I mostly lost the spark for a long time, only rarely finishing writing a story, as most of my inspiration instead went into tabletop role-playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder. In the process I developed a possibly unhealthy obsession with elves and succubi. If I ever write a story without either, it's probably Science Fiction...and there are even odds that someone will body-mod themselves to look like an elf. Trying to be honest here.
My writing tends to focus on the relationships between characters, though it may not seem like it at times. The stories in the background are just that, a backdrop for the development of the characters and situation. I try to fully think them through, but it's not always the case.
Anyway, not much more to be said. I'm an oddball, and I know it. I'm also somewhat stunned at the success my work has attained thus far, and am trying not to panic over it.
This is sixth of an escalating power fantasy in fantasy space. Read them in order if you don't know what that means.
This book has four distinct parts and is practically four novellas in a single novel. I don't think that's a bad thing except insofar as story unity is concerned. Each section wraps its own storylines fairly completely before moving on, complete with rising action and climax. It's still Evelyn and her harem righting wrongs and pile-driving bad guys into paste.
The first story is a bit of an interesting coda on previous stories. It is essentially Eve going in and trying to fix some what what she broke in the beginning of the series. It's a good follow-on from finding her parents and some of the moral course correction she digested from them. So some of the wrongs she is righting are of her own origin.
I feared the last section would be tedious when it started. Having a bunch of versions of herself cluttering up the place was a bold choice and would have been easy to make confusing or, well, silly. Medrano managed to pull it together, though, with each their own distinct presence, including their own goals and motivations. So it worked out. And I didn't even mind the literal deus ex machina that squared the circle in the end.
I'm going to give this a qualified five stars. It's only that strong if you are a fan of the series and like the expectations set by that familiarity. But I am and I do so it worked for me.
A note about Chaste: Eve and her friends are a harem and share affection and intimacy. But not on page and the few references are oblique enough that I didn't find them steamy or prurient. So it's chaste enough for me to tag it so.
As I said thank you I do not know how or why you are what you are But you have given me a chance to view things I can't find on the internet anywhere where you learned about the elder gods and their abilities fascinates me to no end I appreciate your help and seeing my relatives And a chance to glimpse what may be I hope you and your family are well and your life is happy And I will continue waiting for whatever you have next to produce. I am sorry I do not have an internet identity Google doesn't let me access my email anymore and I have no other way to contact the outside world I hope the world treats you and yours well and I wish you the blessings of the 9 you seem to have missed that there are others I hope everything is well for you
Ties up loose ends and puts some new really fun threads in play
Book 6 follows the same basic formula as previous episodes, which is to say the story moves through several distinct adventures. The first two are predicted by the ending of book five where Evelyn sets course for Peldra so she can lay old ghosts to rest; and the to Bright Dawn so Ilyra can do the same. The third adventure also redresses the past with Evelyn’s old teacher, and the last blends past present and future in a really fun and creative way made possible by Fya.
4 Parts and loving everyone of it. Once again problems find Evelyn and she deals with them in her unique way. Part 1-3 deal with problems we saw teased on the horizon in her earlier adventures and then Medrano comes out with a truly fantastic idea for Part 4. I just wish he would have the time and muse to write even more about her companions. :D
Oh and you thought the Avatar of a god or the star eater was scary? Wait till you read about [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. I'm scaroused.
***SPOILER*** Enjoyed following Evelyn on her many adventures. Absolutely loved the ending! If you got a wild hair, I would thoroughly enjoy reading more about the alternate Evelyn’s. Thank you!
