A fine series send-off. While I’m not sure it quite stuck the landing in all of the ways I would have hoped, its most significant impacts have been the improvement in Bruce & Damian’s relationship and, most importantly, Damian’s newly-discovered passion for helping Gotham through medical and philanthropic approaches. I hope that these two things stick around long-term for these characters, but it seems Damian and Bruce’s relationship is already a mess again over in the Batman title. I will miss this series’ predominant focus on Damian over Bruce most of all.
This series has come to an end and tbh we are all the worse off for it, that was fantastic. This is exactly the Damian mentality we need spreading to the other mainline Batman series, filled with heart, compassion, and drive to make Gotham better through his own passions and interest. We start this issue where we left off at the sacred heart medical center event as Penguin has just taken the stage to give a big speech patting himself on the back, all while Scarface and his crew are hiding in the shadows waiting for the perfect moment to gun him down, no matter who is in the way, and while the quiet man is gunning for Wesker. Of course barks and Robin are overseeing the entire situation trying to find a way to make sure nobody dies tonight. They know the shooting is about to start and Scarface is filled with murderous intent as he exercises it on one of his own impatient men by slitting his throat and stabbing him over and over again. Batman realizes they need a distraction, they have clocked Wesker and his shooters and they need to take them down without anyone realizing it. Batman sends Robin after the goons while he jumps away and uses his tech to take down the nearby power grids and engage the fireworks systems so that everyone stays calm in the belief this is all part of the show, all while batman and Robin work in the darkness to take everyone down. Batman is able to take down Cobblepot and his crew and Robin is able to sweep through Wesker’s crew until finally taking down the ventriloquist himself. Robin was able to report in to batman, but he didn’t keep his guard up long enough for the quiet man to sneak from behind and knock Robin down to the ground with the butt of his gun. When Robin woke up, while batman was desperately fighting through goons to finish up and get to him, he found the quiet man training his gun on Wesker. Robin called out to the quiet man to stop, he read his letters to his son and a very similar thing happened to batman and he has spent his whole life chasing it. Everyone in their family knows that is who he is forever and one day he will die chasing it. Gotham is his place but it doesn’t have to be the quiet mans, especially if he doesn’t kill Wesker. Wesker tried to escape and the quiet man stopped him, he will go back to Arkham…can’t that be enough? The quiet man throws Wesker to the ground and makes a comment about Robin being in charge, lol. Unfortunately the quiet man threw Wesker down right next to Scarface, who immediately grabbed a gun and shot the quiet man as batman finally caught up and kicked the ventriloquist down. I love the art I. This scene as it feels like batman grows larger and bulges out due to the anger building up inside of him for believing the ventriloquist could have changed. But he can’t beat the ventriloquist to a pulp just yet, Robin needs help as the quiet man is bleeding out but can be saved. Robin enters full doctor mode as he works to save the quiet man’s collapsed lung, batman assists all while the ventriloquist slips away into the shadows. Batman can’t help but look over and be proud of his son and the quiet man knows he is in good hands.
Later on the quiet man escaped police custody, even in his condition, but the shots he took earned him his head start and if he makes if across the river batman doesn’t expect to see him again. As Damian pets his monkey, he suddenly realizes something from what batman said about making it across the river. Robin thinks back to the quiet man’s son, how he was shot in his father’s truck after the warehouse massacre and his body nor the body of the Falcone monster driving the truck were found. They looked for that truck and the mobster for years and none of the silver ever reappeared…but what if he never ran, what if he didn’t even make it across the river? The trigate bridge was under construction then and the two rightmost lanes were closed off and unlit. So it’s not a huge stretch to think their vehicle went off the side of the bridge. Batman and Robin took a slight scuba trip out to the area and found the car and the bodies inside. Alvin Mercer received the burial he deserved at the church we met his father at all while the quiet man watches from the trees. As the issue comes to an end we are met with the father adventures of Robin and batman, writings from Damian, as he talks about his time being a Wayne of Gotham. He doesn’t have a ton of time for normal family activities, but Bruce makes time by signing up for volunteer work alongside Damian at sacred heart. The recovered silver was donated to the hospital and Bruce even made a comment about how it is becoming a begged hospital than it was in his Father’s Day. Damian knows that would have pleased Dr Bashar and he hopes Alvin Mercer would have approved. Damian feels his life and purpose coming into focus, a life and purpose he chose for himself. ”Not a legacy I was born into, or a mission forced upon me by others. Gotham is still the mission. But at least for now, it is also my home. The home where my father was born… And his father… And where Batman and Robin were born, also. Gotham will always need her Batman… And Batman will always need his robin.” The curtain closes and the crowd erupts, I am going to miss this.

I'm so sad PKJ's run is over! I easily could've read 30 more issues by him. This series did such a good job of developing Damian's character. This is going to become the story that I compare all other Damian Wayne stories to. PKJ set the bar high.
A fitting end to a series that I was quite enjoying. The themes of love, lost, and vengence were balanced well in this. That final page was perfect too.
I liked a lot this series. However very disappointing that Damien's characterization so well developed in here is thrown away in the other on-going Batman titles...
