As a young woman, Eva Moore loved nothing more than to dive between the pages of a romance and lose herself in the story. They were perfect for avoiding midterms and report cards. She even met her husband while reading a book. About the time the second baby came along though, she found she had little time for diving into anything but laundry. Missing her stories desperately, she began to make up her own. The stories she played with in her mind while she washed dishes and changed diapers eventually made their way onto the page, and she was hooked. Eva now lives in Silicon Valley, after moving around the world and back, with her college sweetheart, her three gorgeous girls, and two Shih Tzus who think they are cats. She can be found most nights hiding in her closet/office, scribbling away, and loves to hear from the outside world.

This is Ms. Moore’s first romance. I liked the crisp writing style, and I liked the characters.

With respect to my review, I sincerely hope Ms. Moore will agree with my choice to write an honest, and by that, a very personal, review. And because I read this book expecting to find a romance novel, and found that aspect lacking, my rating and review are based on that expectation. (and no ARC or free copy has been given in exchange for this review) But if you’re not especially ‘needing’ a romance, and enjoy women’s fiction, or reading about personal journeys, this story can be just the thing for you.

I loved the first quarter of the book. The characters sparkled off the page, and the tension between the two leads was sizzling. The smile on my face was wide, and I kept on reading long after my husband had fallen asleep, looking forward to reading about the hero and heroine getting to know each other better. And although they did, they (sadly) didn’t do it on the page (or not as much as I would have liked them to). There were some sentences here and there about how they talked a lot, but I wanted more than just ‘tell’, I wanted to be a witness to the romance, I wanted ‘in’ on those conversations. Instead, I read about how the hero struggled with his PTSD helped by the veterans living in the apartment building, and how the heroine searched for her future career at a retreat and then set up her cafe. All was very well written, and especially the hero battling his demons was very emotional at times, but since all this was done alone, apart from their future significant other, I missed witnessing the sparkles and their growing emotional attachment. Towards the ending of the book they got together on the page again, broke up and made up, and some very sweet letters were written. But for me, because of the missing ‘show’ with respect to the romance in the middle of the book, the ending didn’t make me a believer of the depth of their romance.

All in all, for me, Ms. Moore's first book was lacking in the romance department, which is why I rated it as I did. With respect to future books, I hope Ms. Moore will have her heroes and heroines do more stuff together on the page (so I can witness), keep her heroes and heroines wounded, but with a little less information on the why and the how of those demons and focus more on those sparkles. That way, I think Ms. Moore can write sizzling hot romances with believable HEA’s. And yes, I am looking forward to reading Ms. Moore’s next book.

Having said that, I have to say that I have gotten to know Ms. Moore through a Facebook page I love, and for which she acts moderator. Besides that, Ms. Moore has been very helpful with my efforts in writing which, in contrast to Eva’s result I just read, have not led anywhere yet. So: yah Eva for finishing the damn novel!

This book is something special.

I ran across Eva Moore when I had her on my Susan B James blog. When I read the first chapter of the book in her post, I decided I wanted more.
This is a truly lovely read. Nick and Dani have so much going for them. This is a pair worth cheering for. I can't wait to read the next book in the series

Dani's life has been turned upside down. After leaving everything behind to help take care of her dying aunt, she is now alone and wondering what to do with her life. Living in the apartment complex still she finds her peace by helping the other tenants who were always friendly and like a family to her and her aunt. However, even though her aunt is gone, she's still going to make sure that Dani is taken care of and will make sure Dani starts to lie again and finds her passion.

Nick Gantry is an Army vet who has come back with more demons and nightmares than he cares to admit. Moving into the small apartment complex that was close to the VA was suppose to offer Nick the peace and place to hide he thinks he needs. When Dani gets a good look at her new neighbor she knows Nick is hiding demons and can't help but want to help.

Although Nick was looking for a place to hide and heal, he never realized the kind of healing he needed was the kind his meddling neighbor could offer. She gave him the means and reason to want to get help, vets that know what he's been through and are there to talk him through the pain he going through, and most importantly a reason to fight to be a better man for her.

This is my first book that I've read from Eva Moore, and I honestly can say I fell in love with this story from the first page. From the beginning we can see that even though Dani is grieving, she's also a caring and compassionate person who finds her peace by caring for others. Nick's suffering of PTSD is something that many people like to believe they understand, but until you see it first hand, you can't really understand how destructive this is for our veterans. In many cases our vets can't find a reason to want to get the help that may be offered, but the way this author wrote this story does show that love can be a strong motivator. I also loved that it wasn't only Nick that Dani helped. Jimmy, the other vet who had his own problems and couldn't find someone to take a chance on him, was finally given that one break and was determined to get better and not let Dani down for taking a chance on him.

Felt so real

This story is so real to me. Like I've met these people in the book in real life. Eva made them come alive for me. The situations and emotions are things I myself feel. This book is not just about the romance between Dani and Nick, but also about friendship and community. I love it. I can't wait for the other books in the series.

Two people dealing with lost, starting over and overcoming issues the author gives a story that really touches me and is dear to my heart. PTSD is very real, touching so many lives not just our military. I thought the author gave a touching sweet read that really pulls the reader in but it is so much more than a romance it is a story based on friendship which will last way longer than lust does. It is written with true emotion with a great plot and a very believable story line.

A part these are two lost souls but together they balance each other, giving the other what they need most. Neither is looking for love, neither want it, love as a way of finding you when you would rather go hide far way from anyone and everything. I really loved these two characters as well as the supporting ones. Nick is one of those characters you really just want to grab up, give a shoulder and a quite place for him lean and learn to relax. I wanted so bad to take away all that he has had to deal with and give him peace of mind.

This is a story about learning to trust and love, giving of one’s self but still be able to stand on your own two feet. It is a story of overcoming, growing, learning it is OK to need and want as well as love and have fun, finding that someone that makes you feel complete. It is a very touching and emotional read that grabbed me and sucked me in. I read this at one setting and didn’t want it to in. I haven’t read anything by this author but sure do look forward to reading more of her work. Very well written leaving you with a feeling of peace, love and harmony.

Four and a half stars.

Dani Carmichael's at loose ends. Mourning her aunt and trying to figure out what she's going to do with the rest of her life, she's not in a position to start a relationship. But when Army vet Nick Gantry moves into her old apartment across the hall, she can't deny that he sparks her interest in a way that she'd not experienced before.

Someone Special by Eva Moore does a terrific job of creating vivid, true-to-life characters, surrounding Dani and Nick with a warm and interesting supporting cast of neighbors and friends. It's easy to relate to Dani's struggle to find her footing, and the encouragement of her friends goes a long way towards helping her fine-tune her goals. And Nick's struggles with PTSD and the not-physical wounds he bears from his tours, his determination to deal with it himself and not to harm those around him feel all too real as well. These are two very real people, bruised but not broken, trying to make their way with the hand that life's dealt them.

Ms. Moore's writing is easy to read. She tackles tough situations and topics with a deft hand, keeping us turning the pages. Dani and Nick are people we root for because not only do they fall in love, despite their best or worst intentions, but we fall in love with them too. We laugh with them, we cry with them, and we love seeing them live life to the fullest.

Can't wait for the others in this Girls' Night Out series!

This was a new author to me and I am SO glad I took a chance! This book was amazing. This book has all the qualities a really good book should have.

The story revolves around Dani and Nick. Dani is dealing with a loss that is still so fresh she isn't sure how to move forward and Nick is dealing with PTSD from his time in the military.

Both of these semi broken and are in need of each other and they don't even realize it. The other soothes a part of themselves that they have been neglecting.

I really enjoyed the authors thoughtful and tactful way she dealt with Nick's PTSD. As someone who doesn't have it, it was an eye opening experience but also made me want to hug him and hold him close.

I will be reading more from this author!!

Great debut book

I loved this book! Dani and Nick were a great couple. This book has heart, heartbreak, steam and deals with real life issues. PTSD is very real and so many suffer from it and never find the help they need. Eva did such a great job researching PTSD and the effects it can have on someone and their families. Dani, despite losing her aunt, was such a bright spot in this book. Nick was the damaged alpha hero I love. Despite the odds they found a way for their love to survive and be together. I loved both of their characters. But I also loved the side characters, the friendships they both had, the family and sense of community that Dani had within her complex. Well done Eva!

Someone Special by Eva Moore
Series: Girl’s Night Out 1

I have had this book in my tbr pile for a while, because well, the wounded hero plot is not one of my favourites.

I am glad I finally picked it up. The writing is good. I liked the banter and chemistry between Nick and Dani. And while I was not a huge fan of Nick’s destructive behaviour, I understand why it was in there. I loved the messaging that went on in the book (always a favourite for me) and in the end, I really quite.enjoyed this story. The door scene.. loved it! *sigh*.  I will gladly read this author again and plan to pick up the next book in the series.

I loved this book! Dani and Nick are a great couple, and both together and individually, they are the kind of characters that you cheer for. I wanted Dani's restaurant to be real, along with all of this supporting cast. Dani's restaurant is about building community; this story is about community and how that supports us and we all need it. You feel pain for Nick as he battles PTSD, grieve with Dani as she mourns her aunt, and equal parts of frustration and understanding as both struggle to learn to trust and love and be open and vulnerable with each other. There is a very satisfying happy ever after. Truly this story has heart. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Someone Special is a sweet love story!

Someone Special by Eva Moore is an amazingly sweet love story with all the feels you could hope for. Even though PTSD is such a hard subject to talk about it is dealt with in a honest and tactful way by the author. Dani and Nick are perfect together both sweet with difficult pasts. Dani is a total giver and always doing for others mothering everyone. Nick is suffering from PTSD and has not asked for help yet and brings out all of Dani's motherly instincts. They have the most intense chemistry. Secondary characters are phenomenal in this story and I will be reading the other books in the series. You have to give this author a try.

This book was just what I needed to start off my New Year! A heroine who is looking for the next step in her life, good gal friends, and a hunky military man.
The writing was wonderful, but I restarted it a few times because I was having trouble getting caught in the story. However, I think that was just because I tried starting it during holiday stress times and Sunny was dealing with a lot of grief. When I restarted it in January, I read it cover to cover.
There is a forgiveness aspect of the HEA that some people might find unbelievable, but it was just the sweet ending I needed to start the year.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to binge the rest of the series immediately.

This is a great book. Eva Moore wrote complex characters with real problems. I like this story a lot. Nick suffers from PTSD and has to find a way to overcome it, in order to be the man Dani needs. Dani has to find a way to take care of herself before taking care of others. Such a great read and also enlightening to understand what people with PTSD go through as well as the people who support them.

A well written, heart warming, heart rending book, Someone Special gives the reader some insight into the ravaging effects of PTSD on the victim and their friends and family. Nick’s courageous struggle and Dani’s unconditional support and love combine with an interesting story, great characters and a satisfying end to keep the reader engaged with each turn of the page. Will continue to read the series Girls’ Night Out as I can’t wait to read Olivia’s story.

I loved this book just as much as I did the first time I read it. It brought tears to my eyes many times watching Nick struggle with his PTSD. (Again) It all felt so real, but not overwhelming. Watching Dani struggle with her grief over losing her aunt also brought on the tears for me.

Also it was fun seeing the Valenti's a little bit in this series since I have since read Eva's later series that features the family.

It's great that PTSD is being talked about from the view of all ages of the Vets. It brings this issue out and talks about how they handle it and get the help they deserve. Showing a caring community helping Nick and Dani bring out the best in each of them was great to see. The romance between the two was a little slow on Dani's part. ( In my opinion) But I did enjoy the book

It makes you feel like you're watching a Hallmark movie with characters that are easy to relate to and real life storyline. It's awesome must read.

Sweetly sexy

I'm not usually contemporary romance fan, but I greatly enjoyed this story of healing friendship and lust-at-first-sight developing into love. It's also a timely story relating to veterans, especially those from the conflict in Iraq. Recommended.

WOW, Eva has seriously got me hooked. I can't wait to read book 2 In the GNO series. I don't have as much time to read as I would like to have but this one kept me pushing to find a few spare moments. Dani and Nick both deserve a happy ever after ending and I hope they get it.
