I received this book as an advanced copy from the author.
Wow. This book had me intrigued throughout. Interplanetary travel to maintain the empire as Chris becomes comfortable with her new position as Empress remains apparent in this book. The inter-dimensional aspects were a surprise (and makes the "Splinter" of the title make so much more sense) were pulled together seamlessly. This book definitely pulled the 'Stargate' feeling out more than the first book for me. The beginning picks up where the first left off. It was written well and easy to follow. It only took me a few days to read because the flu hit my household, so I was caring for everyone in place of reading, otherwise I probably would have finished it quicker.
While the first book left my heart hurting because of the loss of some characters, the new story line and inter-dimensional connections helped to heal that pain. Connor grows throughout this book and I felt even more connected to him, his adventurousness, his playfulness, his tendencies to get into trouble, even when he is trying to avoid it. The closed door romance, and the re-connections within the storyline, reminded me why romance has my heart. Don't get me wrong, this is a science fiction book, but I do appreciate any romantic subplot.
Epic fantasy. This was a new author for me but loved the story. Traveling through dimensions to different worlds to stop war, discovering oneself. It picks up from the first book. Great story.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Thrilling, Emotional Sci-Fi Adventure That Doesn’t Let Go
I read this as an arc read from the author.
Zada 5: The Window Splinters is an epic, fast-paced sci-fi adventure that delivers on every level. From the moment Connor steps through the window, the story grabs hold and never lets go. The tension is constant, the stakes are massive, and the emotional core is surprisingly powerful.
What really shines is the sense of found family and loyalty threaded through the chaos of war and shifting worlds. Seeing Connor reunite with people he thought were lost—only to discover how much has changed—adds depth and heart to the action-heavy plot. Meanwhile, Chris’s desperate race to find his missing friend adds urgency and balance, making both storylines equally compelling.
The battles are intense, the enemies feel genuinely overwhelming, and the pacing is spot-on. RD Moreno does an excellent job blending high-stakes action with emotional weight, creating a story that feels both epic and personal.
If you love sci-fi with parallel worlds, lost-and-found connections, impossible odds, and characters worth fighting for, this book is a must-read. A definite 5-star addition to the series.
This installment picks right up where Book 1 left off, but with a twist I wasn't expecting!
Again, there is plenty of interplanetary travel and military strategy as Connor navigates his new relationship with Chris, now the ruling empress. But there's not only interplanetary travel, as some shift, or splinter, has happened opening up Connor's travel to new dimensions.
Connor and Chris are both faced with ghosts from their past as they once again strive to bring peace to the planets under Chris's rule. Now Connor must also deal with the complexities of trying to travel between dimensions and keep his team safe.
The ending of this chapter was good in a way that you wouldn't expect!
Between interplanetary warfare and shocking dimensional shifts, the tension never lets up once Connor steps through the window. The action is sharp and fast, but the heart of the story lies in its themes of loyalty, found family, and the bittersweet reunions that add real depth. Expansive worldbuilding. Escalating danger. Characters worth fighting for.
ZADA 5: The Window Splinters by R D Moreno is a gripping continuation that proves this series only grows sharper and more intense with each installment. Moreno masterfully builds tension from the very first page, pulling readers into a world where every decision carries weight and every fracture literal or emotional reveals something deeper beneath the surface.
