I am glad this will be the last book, but not for the same reasons as everyone else. I do not find myself annoyed with the books. Yes, Zoey has has multiple boyfriends, but she's stayed with Stark longer than anyone else. Yes, Neferet needs to shrivel up and die already. However, I actually enjoyed the series.

FINALLY. I DID IT.

I really love this series, once I read the first book a few years ago, I was captivated. So many people are ready for this series to come to an end, but I'll be sad when I read the last book. I can't wait for it to come out: very excited :)

PC and Kristin Cast really out do themselves when it comes from being disgusting . Thankfully, after Redeemed I’ll never have to read a House of Night book by them again.

No, I’m not even going to talk about possible spinoffs. So, we’re going to forget about that. Right now. Not even going to give the Casts that idea. Though, I’m sure the thought has already occurred in their offensive heads.

After writing twelve (if we count the graphic novel) of the drinking game things-though I really have never drank a drop of the devil’s drink when reading this since I care for my liver- it’s sort of hard to come up with something truly original, so today I thought I’d just look back and reflect (cue the bad montage music)

Reflection One: I knew going in it was going to be painful beginning this torturous journey.

I wasn’t a complete innocent. I had tried reading Marked after the ill guised recommendation of a now defunct Walden Books salesperson. I was vampire hungry back then and apparently the salesclerk viewed Zoey as a strong heroine akin to a Meg Cabot heroine.

I think she got this series confused with Vampire Academy.

There is nothing about Zoey that is strong unless we count her Mary Sue powers which I don’t. She hasn’t even evolved as a character. The last book makes this painfully obvious with her jail house scenes.

I will say I have matured though. A year ago, I would’ve been spitting and spewing about how the Casts only research into the criminal justice system consisted of Law and Order and then went on a big fuckery rant but not so much now.

And it’s not because of my blood pressure, it’s because the whole scenario was so typical Casts. I expected fuckery and I got it. Never mind the following:

Zoey didn’t have her Miranda rights read for her.
Had a bail hearing.
Was held in conditions that violated the 8th amendment-a.k.a. the fact she was locked in a jail that could’ve killed her would probably be a fair argument for cruel and unusual punishment.
Was a fucking lawyer’s worst nightmare. Oh, wait the twat didn’t have a lawyer.
A cop can just drop a murder charge with little viable proof. That’s right the judiciary has no power (apparently).
Crickets can be heard in the background of the review.

Really, you’re that surprised I’m not spitting and spewing. Throwing things. Cursing. Obviously, you haven’t read that much House of Night.

Reflection Two: Neferet has never really been a true villainess.

The sad truth of the matter is that Neferet could’ve been an interesting characters. And I really do think YA needs good villains. But in the end, she’s a joke.

At least she was clothed this installment.

That’s something.

The problem with this character is I feel like she’s sort of a parody at best and a bad parody. This character had the skeletal outline to have lots of layers. Those layers were never developed though. Rather, I think everything this character endured (abuse, rape, etc.) was just sort of thrown to the side.

I really thin the end gave her no justice too.

Her downfall was so easy it was ridiculous.

And I’m not even going to discuss how the Casts couldn’t come up with something original because that would be pointless.

Reflection Three: This book exemplified how pointless the love interests all in this book or really any other character besides Zoey Redbird.

The thing about series finales is they should be a goodbye from all the characters. This book really was only about Zoey and some new unknown characters.

Rather, than getting mad about the new characters, I tried to ignore them and focus on the characters I know and hate…but I couldn’t because guess what they barely appeared in this story other than to provide a pep talk to Zoey and help out in a Captain Planet ritual.

Yeah, I watch that show way too much in my youth.

But it’s the only thing I can think of when I think of Zoey’s friends because they have no personality especially in the later books.

Even the love interests–who were the most fleshed out of the supporting characters had little to no personality in this installment as well.

None of them.

It was Zoey. Zoey. Grandma Fucking Redbird (yeah, I had to leave the fuck in her middle name), and maybe just maybe Neferet.

Oh, wait there were some new characters.

A cop who liked to curse and…some lame mortal that was Neferet’s play thing.

All I can say is this again: I don’t care.

Reflection Four: The Casts just like to offend people.

I used to think that the Casts unintentionally offend people. However, I am much wiser after the seventh or whenever they mocked people for being offended about the r word the first time.

They do that again here. And also mock those of us who drank ourselves to death due to the word bullpoopie being used instead of fucked. And they said fuck a lot themselves.

Don’t believe me look at this fucking disgusting quote from the book. I’ll start it when Aphrodite is talking about interracial romances-comparing it to Scandal of all things:

“they’re reminds me of Olivia and the president in Scandal. I’m liking this whole black girl-white boy thing. It’s attractive. Not to mention how it broadens the typical white boy point of view. Goddess knows they need it.”

‘That’s the most politically correct thing I’ve ever heard you say.”

“You are welcome, retard,” (Casts 258)

Honestly, I don’t think I’d like the Casts if they’re anything like their narration.

My interpretation of the text is that they are directly addressing heir reading. It’s pretty obvious, well in the earlier installments, less obvious here. But still. If you knew about the whole r word incident, you’d know about this. Honestly, I’m sort of over it. It isn’t funny. It’s disgusting. Maybe the Casts aren’t offended by the r word but there are a lot of people who are. And chances are some of them are going to read this book. Isolating your audience isn’t just rude, but it’s bad economic sense.

Reflection Five: How the fuck did this get nominated for two Book Shimmy awards?

Yeah, this is where you see me get mega pissed.

How just how?

And I’m not saying that because I utterly despise the House of Night series. I’m saying that because it logically makes no sense.

This is a bad book.

And I’m not just talking about it’s actual content. Technically it is a flop if there ever was one.

The multiple points of view does not work. I think the Casts would’ve been better off having this book just be written in omniscient third than the first and various limited third it just got confusing after awhile especially since the changes in point of view would happen so quickly. Seriously, half a page of view point changing was excessive.

The plot was illy paced. I hated how everything was resolved it just seemed way too easy and as if little thought was done. The ending itself was expected and it had one of those epilogues that just reeked awfulness.

Yet, it was nominated for two catagories-one best book and the other best villain.

Well, people have elected the tea party to office so I guess it makes sense.

This might say it better.

The good news though is I’m done. I pray the Casts won’t try to revive this like many other of their YA counterparts did to their series. This series needs to die.

I feel like I should receive a medal of honor, pat on the back, or at least a gold star for finishing this series. I was so young when this train crash started. I remember being in college, at Christmas time, walking on the treadmill in my parent's basement, reading the very first installment ( Marked). Who would have thought that seven years later I would be inflicting physical pain on myself trying to see how it all ends?

If you follow my reviews, you know how I feel about The House of Night series and that Casts. It's a very weak story, written with many offensive stereotypes, that should have been wrapped up six books ago. The series has taken a even more downward spiral (believe me, I didn't think this was possible), and the author(s) just blatantly refuse to finish the mess they created. My boyfriend even told me he googled a movie script being written up. Please Lord, have mercy.

The book starts out with Zoey wanting to die in Jail for killing two men at the end of the last book ( Revealed). Well, 70 pages in Zoey realizes she didn't kill anyone. THIS is the shit I'm talking about. What could have been fixed in half a page, took them 70 pages of wasting my time.

At least they learned that being racists and homophobic with teenage stereotypes is wrong, right? NOPE. Twelve books and a handful of novellas make up this series, and they still write the most offensive things I've ever in any YA book. In this book there are hostages at some point, and it's one person's job to categorize people as attractive, acceptable and needs work. Then subcategorize them as fat, fashion impaired or ugly. Call me crazy, but this has to offend someone. Especially since it had no real bearing on this book's story whatsoever. Then we have the typical "I'm liking this whole black girl-white guy thing. It's attractive." in case they weren't offensive on all levels. Throw in calling people "retarded" about twenty time too. Seriously, the Casts will never learn.

I actually started to feel happiness that the series is coming to a close. This is the last time I will ever have to read a House of Night book and all -. Oh, the best part? The end of the chapter actually says "THE END. REALLY." then starts up a new chapter with "Afterward...". The Casts must believe all of their fans are masochists that enjoy this sort of torture. Maybe they are just the biggest trolls in the world. Either way, no one can fill up 300 pages with complete nothingness like the Casts.

This book deserves no one star, but I'm giving it two just because this fucking series is done. I will say a prayer that it really, truly is the last installment. If it turns out not to be, I will change its rating to the rightful one star.

I didn't write a full-blown review, especially because there were a lot of them on Goodreads that already tell us about the general "plot" and spoilers.

But for those who want to laugh at some ridiculous quotes, though, here you go:

"FAVORITE" QUOTES! WITH GIFs!

I couldn’t remember if Oklahoma was a death penalty state. Like I’d actually paid attention in history class while Coach Fitz played movie after movie?
~Zoey

Yeah, because knowing a bit about the state where you were born in is for nerds! YOLO!

“I’d been a self-absorbed bitch.”
~ Zoey

Well, FINALLY!!! Acceptance is the first step and all that...

“[...]You don’t hear names like that anymore, and it is such a shame. Where have all the Elinors and Elizabeths, Gertrudes, Gladyses, and Phyllises gone?”
~ Neferet

What a happy coincidence that the P in P.C. Cast stands for Phyllis, huh?

Goddess! He’s not even human! I felt the shock of it, and the memory of what he looked like when he morphed into the bull creature played through my mind.
~ Zoey

What a genius you are, Zoey!

“Only you can help yourself. Grow up, young Priestess. Show all of us why Nyx has chosen to gift you so greatly,” Sgiach said.

Zoey? Growing up?

“I’ve never heard of this, but maybe if a cat’s vampyre goes bad, it, well, commits suicide or something. He might be up there because Neferet is batshit crazy and he can’t deal with it.”
~ Zoey

Yes, and it'll even say, "Goodbye, cruel world"...

I could even begin to recover from that horrid statement, Thanatos added, “I have only known one other fledgling who was as gifted as you are, Zoey Redbird. Her name was Neferet.”

Ok, Zoey, this is your cue to freak out!

“A teenager?” Marx’s voice grumbled from behind us. “Why would the power to balance good and evil be given to a teenager?”
I frowned at him.
“I have been wondering that for months,” Kalona said.

Me too! For years, actually...

“Ah, hell,” I said. I sighed and took a big gulp of my brown pop. It was going to be a long night.

For some reason, this scene makes me think "it's like she's supposedly downing a glass of whiskey, but this is a YA book, so 'brown pop' it is."

(Also, why the hell the HoN books are littered with pop culture and brand references, but Zoey never says Coke or Pepsi or Dr Pepper? Mother/daughter disagreement or product placement problem?)

THE END. REALLY.

Adiós, House of Night!

AFTERWARD...

No wait, WHAT?! LIES!!! You're freaking kidding me, right?

*a few pages later* OMG, FINALLY! It's finally over!

And my conclusion after I read the House of Night series' conclusion is: the whole series is, like Zoey would put it, a "GIHUGIC" waste of time.

But, the good news is, IT'S FINALLY OVER!

Now excuse me while I mentally celebrate with some Sofia sparkling wine (and not Aphrodite's "Sophia champagne" -- is that a Chinese knock-off?).

I seriously wish it would be made into a movie series.... granted I know that would be a lot of movies, but if put together perfectly in a way to make like two books one movie... maybe.. ?? (: or the idea of the episodes would be freaking amazing!!!! I wish the series didn't end. most of the time now I just hurry through neferets part, but that is only because I don't like her.. I don't think anyone does... but also because I just wanna hurry and find out what happens next with zoey and rest of group. I am guilty of being one of those people that read the book within a week or sooner. I find that it sucks to finish too fast cuz then you have to wait for the next one to come out which is usually not until a year later... lol.
October 22, 2014
I can't believe I actually made it through to the last book in the series. Once upon a time, I was determined I would finish every series that I started. Thank goodness, I don't feel the need to do that anymore but I'm still happy that I got to know how things ended. On that note, I'm just going to make this short and sweet.
description
Neferet is still up to no good. Kalona is all about redemption. Zoey and the "Nerd Herd" are still trying to figure things out. Aurox just wants to have a connection. Detective Marx is getting an education. And we get a new person's POV, Lynette, who just wants to stay alive.

Overall, I liked how things were handled, but I had problems with a few things...such as darkness getting through the barrier and can't we just leave Erik Night alone??!!

I think the ending worked out - not everything was perfect which I was happy about. And things came full circle. ;)

The ultimate battle of vampires and humans against Neferet and her evil shadowlike tendrils

“Sometimes I cannot help but wonder why I have the desire to be worshipped by humans at all.”

And the book in which Zoe finally fulfils her destiny

High Priestess of the North American High Council—when would my stomach stop clenching whenever I heard my new title?

But, as you have guessed, this is not the end

“Zoeybird, you must not think of this as the end of something. Think of it as the beginning of a grand adventure for all of you”

I am looking forward to starting the House of Night Other World series.

Warning, there will be spoilers.

This book literally took me like three hours to read, not counting the breaks I took to make dinner, wash my bedding, and browse tumblr—basically anything I could do to keep from having to read more of this book—because there was absolutely zero substance to it. It was a relatively quick and mindless read that involved little to no effort.

What I liked:
-Neferet. All I could think while reading Neferet’s chapters was how much nicer her world view sounded than that of a world with Zoey Redbird in charge. Her visions of her world were detailed and beautiful, in a dark and morbid kind of way. Her character has pretty much always been fascinating to me, even if she isn’t the most believable or successful villain.

What I disliked:
-Why in the ever-loving fuck do these authors have to be so damn childish? Zoey is literally sitting in a jail cell for committing a double murder, knowing she’s going to reject the change and die all alone, and she’s still thinking about “psaghetti”. What the fuck?
-Point of view. More fucking points of view in this book. As if the last ones weren’t annoying enough, in this book we have random chapters from one of Neferet’s human supplicants which served no real purpose to the story. It could have just as easily been told from Neferet’s point of view, which I actually enjoyed and it would have made more of an impact. Oh, and we get some from Detective Marx as well. And his thoughts read like that of a teenage girl. Of fucking course.
-These authors are terrible. They treat characters—especially male characters—like total shit once they’ve fallen out of Zoey’s favor. Poor Erik is constantly ragged on by Zoey and her bitchy friends. Nicole steals Shaylinn and Zoey, Aphrodite, and Stevie Rae are gleefully watching the scene go down between Erik, Nicole, and Shaylinn, making fun of him for the awkward situation. These authors and characters are all fucking hags. Everyone is such a fucking bitch to Erik! God damn, he can’t even ask a simple question without some hag biting his head off. And his relationship with Shaunee comes out of absolutely fucking nowhere. Literally, there is no buildup and they’re suddenly a thing.
-Okay, rape is a horrible, disgusting crime. Everyone knows that. But these authors use it as a crutch and to try and make it seem like Neferet’s crimes are the fault of her father, not herself. She strangled her father to death, and the high council literally covered it up for her and allowed her to ‘start over’ so the entirety of their world didn’t know the truth about their high priestess. When Detective Marx objects, Lenobia says, “And please remember, Detective, that this man raped and brutalized his sixteen-year-old daughter.” Page 127. It’s awful, and he should have gone to prison for what he did, but they literally excused a murder committed by their future high priestess. That’s bullshit!
-Kalona. He’s an interesting character and one of the better written ones in the series, but his whole arc these last few books has been laughably stupid. When he dies and is reunited with Nyx, she welcomes him with open arms, accepts his warrior oath, and kisses him. He’s raped countless women over the centuries, and Nyx just forgives him because he sacrificed himself for a human he didn’t even know, which is totally out of his true character. And finding out that Erebus wasn’t really Nyx’s consort was so fucking stupid. They let Kalona think they were lovers even knowing it was driving him mad with jealously, and he fell because of it. And all is just forgiven between the three of them? Are you fucking kidding me?!
-Neferet’s defeat. It happened way too quickly, and way too easily. All of this buildup—twelve whole books—and the final battle is over in like five pages. It was so annoying and hard to follow. Zoey did something, Neferet did something, Zoey did something, Neferet did something. There was no emotion at all, or any real sense of urgency. You knew that Zoey was going to succeed in defeating Neferet without any real sacrifices. Aurox’s sacrifice was a bit surprising, but I didn’t really care since I hate all of these characters except for Aphrodite.
-Nyx. I’ve never liked Nyx. I’ve never thought anything she does or doesn’t do is even remotely believable. She literally could have saved countless lives if she had just taken Neferet’s powers from her like any sensible and just God or Goddess would do, but we get spoon fed some bullshit about ~free choice~ and that’s supposed to make her seem like a wise Goddess, but really it just makes her lazy. Nxy’s personality is also nauseatingly forced and fake. She acts like a giggly preteen, not a thousands of years old goddess that birthed and watches over an entire race of people. And her happily ever after with Kalona was disgusting. One good deed doesn’t undo a rape-fueled lifetime of hatred. Shame on these authors.

Overall, this book was shit. Pure and total shit. I can’t believe these books were ever published, as they’re filled with nonsense, as well as racist, sexist, homophobic bullshit. I wouldn’t recommend these books to anyone, ever. Avoid at all costs. 0.0

Life was good back when fantasy series used to be about 12 books long and authors used to cook all sort of drama.

Edit: I finally read this one coz I had to end it for my peace of mind. I have to say this ... for a story which dragged on this long ... It didn't even go out with a big bang.... disappointing :(
2.5 stars.

This series has dragged on long enough.. now they're gonna have end of the world war where neferet's gonna die HOPEFULLY.

Okay finally this book series will end!
Now granted this series started off really good, Nerferet being the bad guy through me off at first which was great! And Zoey was suck a likable character...
Key word: WAS.
Now she isn't as likable and it started when she slept with her teacher.
I mean really?!
"He is a man."
Stupidest reason when you yourself are still a child! Or well you act like one!
"Eric is a possessive butt."
Hello, he didn't start acting like a real ass until after you cheated on him. Before that he really wasn't that big of as ass, it was in normal range of how guys act. Especially when it came to Heath, who was you EX and your best friend since you where a child. Of course Eric would feel insecure and get defensive around him. Geez.
Then Stark came...I love him. He is my favorite guy in the series until he sorta came to a halt in character development and got stuck in that "I'm her boyfriend" mindset. It was like he started acting like Eric in the beginning of the series. I miss how he acted in the beginning and right after he regained his humanity. Then he acted like STARK. Now...not so much. I mean really it's only been what a couple of months since you met?
"I love you" BULL!
Then Stevie Rea's section came. And I have to tell you I loved it! It was beautiful! There was a sense of danger, of desire that none of Zoey's relationships had. But sadly that too came to an end with Awakened. I wanted Zoey and everybody to turn their back on her for loving the Raven Mocker. Why? Well unlike Zoey and Kalona and everybody knew he wanted her, Stevie Rea's hidden relationship seemed to come out of nowhere to them. The shock would have caused them to act out of character towards her. And I also miss Stevie Rea's dark side.
Then Raphaim became a daddy's boy and I just fucking got pissed.
I like how Shaunee grew though I wish it was sooner so we could see her exand more as a character. Her growth was a little too late in my opinion. Same with Erin. I still don't feel that she's dead.
Jack... =,{
Damien, dude as far as I'm concerned you got over Jack way to fast. Besides that you are the only character that doesn't piss me off.
Thanatos you are a bad ass!
Nix I wish we saw things through her point of view every once in a while. Then I wouldn't get to pissed with her all the time. I mean I understand she is a goddess but you would think that once Neferet became Immortal and therefore no longer her "daughter" she would have stepped in and said "Alright Zoey you had your shot now she's on my truf"...Well not like that but you get the point.
Anyway, like I was saying before I ranted, Zoey was a likable character but she blew it. She has a poor sense of right and wrong and depends way too much on her goddess for help. If she learned from her mistakes early on and learned to really use her powers then that would have been a different story. She would have end up being one of those Rise then Fall then Rise again characters. However she didn't.
Now with the series on it's final book I feel like it was far too rushed in the last books. Too much was added in too little time.I hope this is all fixed in Redeemed

Mach was drauß.

Buddy Read with Inga

Redeemed is the last book in the House of Night series, The Grand Finale!
Does the title live up to its name? No! Redeemed, did not redeem the passed seven novels of this series that I had to endure, to finally reach the end.
When I began reading this series, back in 2007,I really enjoyed the concept, a Finishing School for Vampires. The Casts created an intriguing world with a core group of interesting characters. The magic system, while perhaps not the most unique, was still engaging and the blend of the Goddess Nyx and Native American beliefs and myths definitely made it interesting.

Endlich.
Endlich ist es vorbei. 😂

Naja, geht so. Irgendwie schon. 😅
