She married my ex-husband. They're living in my house. One of us won't make it out alive...
I share a house with my ex-husband, Ben. A floor each, a schedule for taking turns to use the kitchen. It may sound odd but it’s all perfectly amicable. Then his new wife moves in…
Yasmin breezes in on a cloud of expensive perfume, and it’s clear Ben is besotted. But her perfect veneer soon starts to crack. I know she’s been in my room. And I realise I have more to fear than I’d ever imagined…
Then Ben disappears, and I’m alone in the house with her. I hear a noise in our basement. I run down the steps and the door slams behind me. But is it Yasmin turning the key in the lock, or is the truth even more dangerous?
And will I survive…?
Fans of None of This Is True, John Marrs, T.M. Logan and Freida McFadden will be utterly gripped by this addictive, page-turning psychological thriller.

I was *this close* to giving this 5 stars, but I’m going to be fair...this one was **predictable.** And surprisingly, that actually bothered me a little. 😂
I really enjoyed the setup of a divorced couple continuing to live together, each with their own floor and a schedule for sharing the common spaces. I immediately thought, *Ohhh, this isn’t going to go well...* 😏 And, of course, it didn't. Then Ben's new wife, Yasmin, moves in and basically takes the whole situation from awkward to **what in the fresh hell is happening here?** 😂 I had a pretty good idea of where some of the story was headed, especially once Yasmin entered the picture, but even when I knew what was coming, I still wanted to see how it would actually play out. There were a couple of twists that made me rethink some of my theories, although they weren't necessarily *jaw-dropping* reveals so much as, “Ohhh, okay...that makes sense.” There were definitely moments where I was sitting there thinking, *I knew it!* followed immediately by *Wait...they actually did it?!* 😂
Overall, this was a **fast, fun, easy-to-follow read** with a unique setup and plenty of messy shared-house drama. It may have been a little predictable for me, but I was still invested in watching the train wreck unfold.
**4 stars — I saw some of the disaster coming, but I still wanted front-row seats. 😂**
Another easy 5 stars for me, and my second book from this author! 😍 It was a relentlessly fast-paced, multi-layered domestic thriller, that I struggled to put down! It gripped me from the very start and I loved the short chapters too!
One particular aspect I loved was that you really couldn’t trust anyone at all - I changed my mind about a certain character so many times, especially towards the end!
And BLIMEY talk about those twists! 😮They left me staring at the wall! 😂 Just when you think the twists are done, there’s more! It gave me similar vibes to Riley Sager’s The Only One Left, where the twists just kept on coming at breakneck speed!
I really loved the ending and how it all tied together, it was a brilliant conclusion.
If you’re a fan of authors like Freida McFadden, Alice Feeney, or Riley Sager, or just love relentlessly twisty thrillers, I highly recommend you add this one to your tbr! It was so good! I can’t wait to read more from this author 😍
A huge thank you to the publisher for having me on the book tour. All opinions in this review are my own.
Ben and Stephanie are divorced, but still share the house they spent years renovating. They both cheated on each other, but the split was relatively amicable, and they both worked out an agreement about the house. Ben gets one floor and one lounge, Stephanie gets another floor and the other lounge, and they share the kitchen at specified times. They each have their own shelves and cabinets in the kitchen, even the wine cellar is split down the middle, and if they need to talk, they text. They rarely run into each other, and they’re able to save money by continuing to live together.
All had been working out well until Ben’s new girlfriend, Yasmin, shows up. Yasmin is a pain in the ass; she acts like they’re playing out “Three’s Company”, she leaves her clothes all over the house, and leaves the kitchen a mess. A month later, she and Ben are married and she moves in…without Ben. He’s on a work trip, and Stephanie can’t get a hold of him to get him to remind his new wife they have strict rules about the house. When she finally hears from him, he is terse, saying he and Yasmin are buying out Steph’s half of the house, and she needs to move.
During all of this, strange things have been happening. Yasmin has a strange woman stalking her, and Steph has a client’s family threatening her. Ben has been gone much longer than normal. The man Stephanie had an affair with is creeping her out, telling her he’s in love with her. She’s met a new man at the gym, and is trying to figure out her new normal, but nothing happening is normal.
This book ended up being batshit crazy, in the best way ever. The ending was so wild, with everything coming together in the craziest ways. Everything I thought was happening was wrong, and I was thrilled by all of the shocks when everything was said and done. 4.5 stars, rounded up!
(Thank you to Bookouture and Nora Valters for the ARC in exchange for my review.)
The Wife After Me By: Nora Valters Pub Date: August 24, 2026 Publisher: Bookouture
This was my first book by this author, and the title grabbed my attention. I knew this would be good, but I had no idea what to expect.
A recently divorced couple decide to share a house. They have clear rules on when to use certain parts of the home and things go well…That is until the new wife moves in. She
A basement, strange noises, personality clashes and so much more. This is very atmospheric and I cannot wait to read more by this author.
This is my second book by this author, and I really need to read more. This book was addictive. It’s like that line from that TV show.. “you think you know, but you have no idea.” I had no idea which way this book was going to go. I thought it was going to go one way, and then there was a twist, then I thought it was going to go another way, and then a twist, and then another way, and another twist. It gave me whiplash in the best of ways!
I think one of the aspects that I enjoyed the most was that it was all in present time, no dual timelines, and it had one point of view. I feel like this is a rarity these days, and it really, really works well when it’s handled well. Because there was no pause in timelines, I never got myself out of the present action. For me, this made it flow so well.
There’s so much more I want to say, but I don’t want to give anything away. This is such a twisty, addictive thriller. It’s easy to read and you can read it in one sitting, or in a day. I highly recommend it. 4.5 stars for me! Bonus – It’s on Kindle Unlimited!
I am obsessed with this authors writing style and how quickly we are drawn in from the prologue. I loved the pacing of this book and how I just wanted to read on and on. This one had potential to be a higher rating but I did see where this book was going but nonetheless I had a fab time reading it.
The Wife After Me was one of those books that I just knew after finishing the prologue I was going to be completely gripped by this story. Well I certainly wasn’t wrong about that and I ended up finishing this unputdownable read in two sittings. This is a gripping and at times heart stopping psychological thriller. With so many twists and turns my head was in a spin at times. A few twists I did figure out but the majority of them totally surprised me. I will certainly be adding more books by this author to my kindle.
This is the second book that I have read by this author, I did enjoy the first one but I enjoyed this one even more.
In the story, The Wife After Me, Stephanie and Ben have been married many years, they built a friendship, a life, and a house together. They poured themselves into their home but once the home was finished, there marriage fell apart and they decided to divorce. Neither wanted to leave the beautiful house, neither could afford to buy each other out so they decided to continue to live together with a set of rules to go by. So basically they split the house with different parts of the home divided and schedules for the use of some parts of the home. Unfortunately, I don't think they thought far enough into the future to what might happen if one or the other fell in love with someone else and decided to get married...
Ben falls for another woman and starts bringing her to house and that is when complications start to happen. Yasmin doesn't know the rules and she is breaking them. Then Ben and Yasmin get married which is a bigger complication. When Stephanie wants to meet with Ben face to face to discuss the living arrangements and the rules, Ben refuses to meet with her and turns on her via messages. He treats her rather badly.
There are some other weird things going on, Stephanie's father starts receiving death threats, Stephanie has a client whose family are blaming her for their daughter's suicide and are threatening her and trying to take away her career as a counselor. She feels she is being followed at times and events keep happening that are suspicious.
I don't want to reveal anything further of the story, but it was sure a twisty one and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every twist, this was the kind of story that kept me engaged from beginning to ending and kept me guessing. I did figure out a couple of the twists but there were still plenty that surprised me. I thought the story was pretty intense with a lot of drama going on and from several different directions. I like how most of it wrapped up with exception to a couple of things I can't mention without giving spoilers. I will just say it gave a couple of emotional punches too and was rather sad. I am looking forward to reading more stories by the author.

The Wife After Me grabbed me pretty quickly and kept me turning pages, which for a thriller is honestly half the battle. The premise alone is wild enough to keep you hooked: Steph and her ex-husband Ben still share their home after their divorce because neither one wants to give up the house. It's unconventional, but it works until Ben's new girlfriend Yasmin starts making herself very comfortable and things begin to spiral.
This was a pretty quick, entertaining read and I did enjoy it for the most part. The double twist was a highlight, and I appreciated that just when I thought I had it figured out, the book managed to pull the rug out from under me again.
My biggest issue was Steph herself. She might be one of the most naive main characters I've ever read. Some of her decisions and her thought process throughout the book were genuinely hard to believe, and there were moments where I wanted to shake her. I can suspend disbelief for a thriller, but she pushed that to its limits.
The ending also wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly for my taste. Some storylines that had been building throughout the book got resolved in a way that felt rushed and a bit underdeveloped, which was a little disappointing given how well the tension had been building.
Still a solid, enjoyable thriller overall though. I'd read more from this author.

Ben and Stephanie are childhood sweethearts who have been married for years. They bought the perfect house, spent years remodeling it, and built what appeared to be the perfect life together. Until…they got divorced. 😳
And apparently, their divorce agreement was basically, “Fine, you can have the house. But I’m taking HALF.” 😂
And when I say half, I mean HALF. They literally divide the house and live separate lives under the same roof, right down to not using the kitchen at the same time. Because nothing says healthy divorce quite like scheduling your time in the kitchen with your ex-husband!
For a while, their strange little arrangement works. Until Ben meets another woman.
And this woman is apparently perfect. Ben brings her home, and suddenly Stephanie's life starts changing in ways she can't explain. Then Ben marries the new woman, and Stephanie begins questioning everything. The more strange things happen, the more she starts wondering if the new Mrs. Ben is really who she says she is.
And Ben? He isn't exactly helping. He leaves Stephanie on read, doesn't answer her questions, and basically makes her feel like she's losing her mind. Which, of course, only makes me want to know what the hell is really going on!
Once I figured out what was happening, I couldn't put this book down. Was it predictable? Yep. Did I figure out some of it before the big reveal? Absolutely. But honestly, I didn't care because it was FUN.
This was an easy, fast-paced, enjoyable thriller that kept me entertained from beginning to end. It may not have completely blown me away with its twists, but sometimes you don't need a book to reinvent the thriller—you just need it to keep you turning pages, and this one did exactly that.
Final Verdict: Predictable but FUN. Easy to read, entertaining, and just twisty enough to keep me invested. Sometimes that's exactly the kind of thriller I need. 4 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Now, that was one twisty thriller!
Stephanie Prendergast and her ex-husband, Ben Williams, have a rather unique living arrangement. They met as teenagers, fell in love, and spent 26 years together before eventually getting divorced. During their marriage, they bought an old house and poured years of effort and savings into renovating it. After the divorce, however, neither could bear to part with the house. So, they decide to continue living there - together, but separately, occupying different parts of the house.
Stephanie, a former lawyer, now works as a grief counsellor. She and Ben have agreed on a set of rules to protect their privacy: they keep to their respective parts of the house, while sharing the kitchen and a few other spaces. Things begin to change when Ben falls in love with Yasmin. Eventually, she moves in with Ben, and begins to cross some of the boundaries that he had established with Stephanie.
And that's where things start getting complicated. Without giving away any spoilers, the increasingly tangled lives of Stephanie, Ben, and Yasmin form the heart of The Wife After Me.
This is such a twisty thriller. Just when you think you've figured everything out and the story is about to wrap up, another twist comes along and completely changes your perspective. I genuinely didn't see some of them coming.
I enjoyed this book so much that I managed to finish it in a single day. This was my first book by Nora Valters, but it certainly won't be my last.
⭐ Rating: 5/5
If you enjoy domestic thrillers with complicated relationships, secrets, and plenty of twists, The Wife After Me is definitely worth picking up. I'm now on the lookout for more books by Nora Valters!
Valters sets this up beautifully as a slow burn suspicion story - an ex-wife circling her former husband's whirlwind new marriage, picking apart the pieces that don't quite add up about the woman who's replaced her. It's a great vantage point for a thriller: close enough to the situation to notice everything, but with just enough bitterness and history clouding the narrator's judgement that I couldn't fully trust her read on events either. That tension carries the early chapters brilliantly.
What impressed me most is how the book plays with a reader's confidence. I got to a point where I was fairly sure I'd worked out where the twist was heading, and I was wrong in exactly the right way. Valters lets you feel clever for a moment and then pulls the rug out, which is a much harder trick to pull off than it sounds. And rather than the story settling once that reveal lands, it just keeps escalating. Each chapter after the twist adds another layer rather than coasting on the one big moment, which kept me completely hooked through to the end. It's rare for a thriller to keep raising the stakes that late in the game without it feeling like padding, and this one manages it.
The pacing is relentless in the best way. Short chapters, a mounting sense of dread around the house itself, and a narrator whose unraveling grip on the situation mirrors the reader's own. If I'm nitpicking, a couple of the later escalations ask you to extend some goodwill on plausibility, but by that point I was too invested to care.
This is exactly the kind of twisty, addictive psychological thriller that keeps you up later than you meant to be reading. Strongly recommended for fans of domestic suspense who like their endings to keep delivering right to the last page.
If you devoured The Housemaid, then you will not want to miss Nora Valters’ compulsively readable new thriller, The Wife After Me.
Steph and Ben are divorced, but they still live together. They share a house and everything is perfectly amicable: everyone has their own floor, there is a schedule for the kitchen and they can come and go as they please. Steph and Ben think that they’ve got divorce all figured out – until Ben gets married again and Yasmin moves in. Suddenly, Steph’s perfect housing arrangement is threatened by the arrival of a woman who seems perfectly friendly on the surface, but who isn’t all that she seems.
Steph cannot shake the suspicion that something isn’t right with Yasmin. Beneath the perfect smile and friendly chat hides a woman with a very dark secret. Convinced that Yasmin has been in her room, Steph realises that she’s in danger – and her fears are compounded when Ben goes missing and she’s left all alone with the new wife…
As Steph begins to hear strange noises, she starts to wonder, what really happened to Ben. Where is he? Is Yasmin responsible? And worse, when Yasmin locks her in the basement, Steph wonders whether she will ever get out of this alive!
The Wife Before Me is a creepy, claustrophobic and chilling thriller that is definitely not for the faint of heart. Nora Valters stirs a pot spiced with intrigue, danger, tension and suspense and leads readers down a path that pulls the rug out from under their feet again and again. A first-rate thriller I couldn’t stop reading, Nora Valters’ The Wife Before Me will go down a treat with fans of T M Logan and Shari Lapena.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow what an absolutely crazy ride! The story started off a little slower and then all of a sudden it took off at break neck speed! I was like great but then those twists started coming and i didn't stand a chance. Theory after theory, Nora obliterated them all and left me gasping out loud and having to stop to process what I had just read!
The set up for this book fascinated me. Picture this - a married couple, Stephanie and Ben, divorce and agree to stay in the house together. They split it up with designated floors and set times to use communal areas such as the kitchen. What can go wrong you ask?
Well when the ex-husband Ben slowly moves his new wife in things go from bad to the absolute worst for Stephanie. What was once a safe sanctuary turns into a nightmare. It got messy and chaotic and I was absolutely in for it and loved every last messed up second.
Stephanie as a main character had me mad. I was shouting at my kindle, yet she refused to heed my advice 🤣 I think it's a gift to be able to write characters that can wind you up so much that you look like the unhinged one because they have you up the wall.
There are some really loathable characters in this one. I won't say too much but when all is revealed I can guarantee you will be left reeling! I basically trusted no one throughout this because everyone seemed sus!
This book is short and sweet, the perfect bingeable length. If you are after a book that is fast-paced and twist-filled, with characters you can love to hate, messy dynamics and an ending that will leave you staring at the wall, this is the book for you!
Thank you to Nora Valters and Bookouture for this advance complimentary copy via Netgalley. This review is being left voluntarily and all opinions expressed are my own.
The Wife After Me is a tense, addictive psychological thriller that grips from the very first page and keeps tightening its hold. Nora Valters delivers a story steeped in unease, shifting loyalties, and the creeping dread of not knowing who you can trust—even inside your own home.
The setup is instantly compelling: sharing a house with your ex‑husband is already unusual, but the dynamic becomes razor‑sharp when his new wife, Yasmin, moves in. Valters captures the claustrophobia of this arrangement brilliantly. Every interaction feels loaded, every glance a warning, and the cracks in Yasmin’s perfect exterior appear with deliciously unsettling timing.
As Ben disappears and the basement scene unfolds, the tension spikes. The novel thrives on uncertainty—who’s lying, who’s manipulating, and who’s truly in danger. Valters keeps the reader guessing without ever feeling gimmicky, and the twists land with real impact. The atmosphere is dark, domestic, and deeply psychological, the kind of thriller where you start questioning every character’s motives.
What elevates the story is the emotional undercurrent: the protagonist’s vulnerability, her simmering resentment, and the way past relationships can twist into something far more dangerous than expected. It’s fast‑paced, compulsive, and packed with the kind of twists that make you rethink everything you thought you knew.
A gripping, breathless read perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, T.M. Logan, and twist‑heavy domestic suspense. I devoured it.
With thanks to Nora Valters, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC
Steph and her ex-husband, Ben, have a rather interesting living arrangement. Their home is absolutely beautiful, and neither one wants to give it up, so they come to an agreement: they will share the house while maintaining separate spaces and following a schedule for common areas, such as the kitchen. It may be unconventional, but for them, it works. Steph has also changed careers and, for the past five years, has worked remotely as a grief counselor.
Then everything changes - and far too quickly for Steph’s comfort. Ben has found someone new, Yasmin. Steph doesn’t want Ben back and genuinely wants to be happy for him, but she soon feels increasingly hemmed in when Yasmin begins spending more time at the house and disregarding the rules Steph and Ben established. Meanwhile, Steph’s father, a former cop with whom she shares a wonderful relationship, is dealing with troubles of his own. Add to this the family of a former patient whose situation has left Steph with an unrelenting grief, and she certainly has her hands full.
However, as Steph soon discovers, the drama surrounding her may be spiraling into something far more perilous. This thrilling story kept me on the edge of my seat. I managed to figure out a couple of the twists, but there were still more to come, so my enjoyment of this thriller was not diminished in any way. In fact, I couldn’t wait to see how everything would ultimately unfold.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
The Wife After Me gave a sharp, twisty domestic thriller with a deliciously "sus" atmosphere from page one. I loved how the tension built slowly through the shared‑house setup, then snapped into full suspense once Yasmin entered the picture. The story kept me alert the whole time.
What stood out most was how different the modus operandi felt compared to similar thrillers. Instead of relying on loud chaos, this one leaned into creeping suspicion, odd behaviors, and subtle psychological digs that made the unraveling more intriguing. The arcs were tight, layered, and easy to binge, and I genuinely enjoyed following each thread until the final reveal.
What I Enjoyed: • Constant sus energy • Unique modus operandi • Quick and intriguing arcs
What Didn’t Sit Right: • Some character reactions felt abrupt • A few twists could’ve been deeper • Side motivations felt lightly sketched
Final Thoughts: A fast, suspicious, and cleverly structured psychological thriller with a fresh approach to tension and manipulation. The creeping unease, unusual setup, and tight arcs made this a fun, engaging read from start to finish. Definitely one of those domestic thrillers that keeps you guessing and side‑eyeing every character.
Huge thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author Nora Valters for my advance copy.
The Wife After Me is a fast-paced, deeply disturbing psychological thriller that kept me hooked all the way to the end.
Steph and Ben have gotten divorced, but both remain living in the same home they lovingly renovated together. Neither can afford to buy the other out, and selling is something neither wants to do so they come up with a plan to divy up the living spaces. This works at first, but then Ben brings home a woman he quickly becomes serious about. This was never discussed in the plan, and neither knows how best to handle it. Soon enough, Ben announces he has married and moved Yasmin in. Not long after, Ben's attitude and demeanor change and he is no longer the accommodating ex he was. Is this the result of the second wife?
The tension in this story escalates quickly and the twists are jaw dropping. The premise is unique and held my attention. The chapters are short and easy to binge and Valter's writing is once again razor-sharp.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy
😌What worked: I love it when books grab my interest from the get-go. There was no waiting to get into The Wife After Me—very addictive the whole way through. I really liked the shared house setting even though living with your ex-husband is crazy. Overall, I did enjoyed it despite some things that didn't work for me.
🙅♀️Things I didn't like: ⚠️⚠️⚠️POSSIBLE SPOILERS⚠️⚠️⚠️
Steph was obsessed with her ex-husband. Couldn't really stand her most of the book.
The Trevors story line was too unbelievable. They were that upset about something simply not true, despite and investigation saying so, and then magically do a 180 near the end so now it's neatly wrapped up.
Steph's dad was incredibly thick and naive for being a retired police officer.
The part about Mason felt very rushed at the end, and their relationship felt very undeveloped up until that point, so the ending felt very random.
🙏Thank you to Bookouture and Nora Valters for the ARC.🙏
Ben and Steph seemed to have the perfect setup. Having built their dream home together, their divorce was as amicable as it gets, and neither wanted to give the house up. So they struck an arrangement instead, splitting the property and taking turns with the shared spaces. What they hadn't factored in, though, was what would happen once one of them fell for someone new.
The moment Ben met Yasmin, he changed completely. Gone was the man Steph had loved and known so well, replaced by someone rude and dismissive. Steph's instincts told her something was off from the start, and I found myself just as convinced as she was, certain I'd pieced it all together, until the ground shifted beneath me and everything I was so sure of got turned on its head.
From there, the tension just kept building. The atmosphere grew more and more unsettling, and the twists came thick and fast as the story hurtled toward a dramatic finish. An absolutely gripping read.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Nora Valters and Bookouture, for an ARC of this book.
The Wife After Me was a fast-paced and twisty thriller that definitely kept me turning the pages. There is no shortage of secrets, suspicious behaviour and unexpected turns, and I really enjoyed trying to figure out what was actually going on.
Yasmin was clearly trouble from the beginning, but I think there were almost too many twists surrounding her. Everything she did became more and more extreme, and while I don’t mind a good twist or two, I felt that some of the explanations behind her behaviour were a little underwhelming. I also found some things fairly predictable, including what happened to poor Ben, and I think the story could have taken a slightly different direction towards the ending.
That said, I did enjoy the book and it certainly kept me entertained. If you love plenty of plot twists, dramatic reveals and a seriously unhinged female villain, this could definitely be one for you! 😂
Overall, an entertaining and easy-to-read thriller that kept me guessing, even if a few of the twists felt like they were pushing things a little too far for me.
This was actually a really good thriller! I was hooked from the beginning and constantly questioning everyone. Who was manipulating who? Who was actually the victim? And what was the real twist going to be?
I really liked how the story slowly came together and how we got to follow the main character as she started realizing what was actually happening around her. Every time she put another piece together, I wanted to keep reading.
The long-term revenge plan was probably my favorite part because she genuinely did not see it coming. The characters were well developed, the suspense kept me interested, and the ending was satisfying while also being a little sad considering everything that happened.
Overall, a really solid psychological thriller. I enjoyed Nora Valters’ writing and would definitely read another book from her!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
You follow the FMC character that after being with her husband for 26 years, they divorce, but their house is worth too much, so they stay living together and split expenses. Everything seems to be working out fine with them per their contracts and rules, until the ex-husband marries a new woman. This new wife throws all the rules out the window and does what she wants -- which would seem normal since there's now a husband, wife, and ex-wife living in the same house. The ex-husband goes off on a business trip and something just seems fishy. The FMC is trying to figure out what is going on and most of the twists I was pretty sure on what they were, but there were some thrown in there to stir things up a little more.
While it wasn't jaw-dropping, it was intriguing and kept me interested to see exactly what would happen and how everyone was connected.
This one had me gripped from the prologue. The pace started high and it did not let up for a single second until the end.
It is told from the pov of Steph, whose self-depricating humour and personality made her a very endearing main character.
She has entered into a very bizarre arrangement with her now ex-husband. Even though they are divorced, they have chosen to both continue living in the home they spent nearly a decade renovating. They have split the house evenly, which makes more sense when you realise its a 6-bed mansion rather than a small terrace.
I had so many different theories as I read this book and they changed so many times as the story unfolded. I think I had almost as many as Steph herself.
It's almost impossible to describe what an absolutely wild ride this book was. It twisted and twisted and twisted until it felt like it couldn't possibly twist any more. More than worthy of a five-star rating and a must read for thriller lovers.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. The suspense builds slowly, while the number of suspects grow, each with their own possible motive.
Ben, the ex, seems to have gone AWOL, while Steph and Ben’s new wife struggle to navigate their relationship. As Steph’s mental state deteriorates and her paranoia grows, the tension steadily builds. I thought this aspect of the plot was woven together really well.
I also enjoyed how many of the characters are very likeable, while a few unlikable personalities add an interesting dynamic. Just when I thought I had it all worked out things would change and I had to recalibrate to keep up.
This is a great psychological thriller that kept me guessing. If you enjoy suspense, secrets, and plenty of twists, this novel is a great choice.
Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and Nora Valters for this advanced copy.
I don't quite know where to start with this one. The majority of the reviews so far are all really strong and full of stars so I'm not quite sure what I missed, but this one just wasn't quite for me.
The storyline itself was pretty good, and the twists and turns definitely kept me guessing along the way but unfortunately I couldn't deal with the disjointed writing style. It was all surface level, and jumped all over the place. A heightened scene where emotions were running at full tilt would be ended with a conversation that was so mundane it just didn't make any sense to me.
Again, the storyline itself was good, it was super messed up, but in a really interesting way, it's what kept me reading. Maybe I'm just getting fussier with my thriller reads.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Wife After Me.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This was a wild, crazy, roller coaster of a read. Stephanie and Ben are happily married, living in a beautiful house, until they’re not! They get divorced but decide to split everything in half, including their house. They live together to save money and have a strict sharing schedule so they rarely see each other. Things change when Ben starts dating Yasmin. Of course she’s absolutely perfect! And then he marries her and Stephanie’s life is really thrown for a loop. I didn’t know who to believe and I didn’t know who to trust. This is the perfect summer read- fast paced, great storyline and a bit unhinged! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. #The Wife After Me #NoraValtersBookTour #NetGalley #Bookouture #NewBook #ILoveBooks #BookLove #Bookstagram
The Wife After Me by Nora Valters out 24th August 2026
This is my first book by Nora Valters thanks to Net gallery and bookouture and won’t be my last as got me hooked from the first chapter, with plenty of twist and turns. Just when you think you’ve sussed it and you haven’t.
A gripping psychological thriller full of secrets, lies, and unexpected twists. The suspense builds brilliantly, the short chapters keep the pages turning, and the ending genuinely caught me by surprise. Didn’t want to put it down.
If you enjoy fast-paced domestic/ psychological thrillers where no one can be trusted, definitely add this to your TBR.
The story follows a usually living arrangement between divorced couple Ben and his ex- wife, until his new wife, Yasmin moves in.
