This is a great introduction to the study of violence. However it tends to go on a bit about the types of violence. Okay, as a criminologist, perhaps I'm a bit cynical about the reading, but it really is drawn out to a great degree. There are some tediously slow parts as well.

It does have good information and will enlighten the layperson. I haven't read a lot specifically along the lines that this book follows, but the basic information can be found in a number of places. Still, I'd recommend it for interested parties.
