Book four's title, “Retreat With Honor,” reveals its time period and closing role. This four-book series gathers articles originally published more than a century ago by Century Magazine. Its editors commissioned prominent U.S. Civil War military leaders (or their survivors) from both sides to write articles on their key battles or actions. While some of these entries debate points of order or importance, most provide historic insights on these events. Century Magazine created impressive maps and artwork to accompany these articles, many of which adorn these books. Book four follows General Grant east while Sherman marches south, taking us to the war’s conclusion
