After a mission gone wrong, the life of valor I once led bleeds away one drink at a time. But a brother-in-arms from my past needs my help, so I reluctantly agree. The assignment: transport a scientist and her antidote to a base on the west coast for international security.
As we race against the clock and face danger at every turn, I become fixated on more than just the mission. For someone so accustomed to feeling nothing, she makes me want to feel everything.
Isabel
Shaking off the tatted, sardonic hired bodyguard isn’t as easy as I’d hoped. My sharp tongue and defiant nature are supposed to chip away his resolve and allow me to arrive at my destination solo. But my efforts are stirring something in him—something I shouldn’t want from a man like him. The more protective he becomes, the harder I fight to resist the desires hidden in my guarded heart. Because if I let him in, I don’t think he'll give me back.
Especially once he learns I’m the reason he’s lost everything once before.

Think The Bodyguard meets The Transporter—except the “cargo” is a beautiful scientist carrying life-saving antidote vials, and the journey from Boston to San Diego is anything but smooth.
This story is a full-throttle, adrenaline-fueled ride packed with high-speed chases, kidnappings, and explosive confrontations. Beneath the action, though, is a deeply human story about second chances—two damaged, guarded people finding an unexpected connection. As their past wounds surface, they’re forced to confront their scars and, ultimately, help each other find a path toward healing and redemption.
For such a short story (~170 pages), this was done so well. Having the entire story unfold through the forced proximity of a road trip and a single, clear-cut mission was such a smart choice. It made the pacing and length feel natural while still giving enough space to genuinely connect with the characters. I really liked both Isabel and Xavier, and their banter had me laughing out loud more than once. Their relationship struck such a good balance between spicy and sweet, and I loved watching them find a sense of peace and redemption in each other. This was a quick, fun read that packed a surprising amount of heart.
Thanks to the author and Iris Influencer Society for the arc in exchange for an honest review <3
This was a steamy, high stakes, bodyguard romance novella. I enjoyed it so much from start to finish! The author developed the relationship between the MCs so well, especially for it being a shorter read. The pacing was consistent and this kept me invested throughout the whole book.
I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. What a ride!! This was an action packed novella that had me at the edge of my seat!! Absolutely loved it!! I couldn’t not put it down!!Isabel FMC had a special antidote that they were delivering to someone and she needed protection as she had a target on her for the formula. The chemistry between her and her body guard was phenomenal and the spice was spicen!! Can’t wait to read more from those Author!! Spice level 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.

Even though this is a short book, it packed a lot of action, romance, and suspense in it. I thought the relationship development between Xavier and Isabela was good. Forced proximity was key to this happening. I also liked how Xavier had a military background and how he was able to be vulnerable with Isabela regarding her past. Isabela is the sister to Rio, Xavier's boss, and she was able to confess to Xavier her deepest, darkest secret, which helped them bond even more. When they did give into their feelings, it was steamyyy.
Overall, 4/5 star read. There was some spice content, but it was about a 1.5/5 for me. I recommend Fractured Valor to readers who enjoy bodyguard romances, romantic suspense, retribution, and the forced proximity and enemies-to-lovers trope.

4 ⭐️ Before diving into this review, I want to preface that I was very fortunate to receive this book as an ARC from the IRIS Influencer Society.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, and my rating clearly reflects this. Initially when I saw it was under 200 pages I wasn’t expecting much, but considering this length the pacing was incredible and it managed to not feel rushed. There was action, plot twists and dangerous moments that had me gripped, and I honestly had a great time. The tension in the build up of the relationship was also amazing, and I loved watching their banter throughout. Both characters had so much depth, which was slowly explored and revealed throughout the book was they learnt to trust one another.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get 5 star feelings from this book and wasn’t obsessed with it, but that was not the expectation for me. It was a quick, fun, and exciting read that I honestly don’t have any criticisms for. Thank you so much for IRIS and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance.
3.75⭐️ {Book} This one is short, sweet and spicy. I love a romantic suspense that is straight to the point and keeps you intrigued, satisfied and packs a punch. Anything beyond 300pgs in this genre usually starts to become a grind to finish. This was perfectly paced! I loved the highstakes/bodyguard vibe. If you enjoy forced proximity-this one is for you!
It makes a great palate cleanser to get you out of a book slump if you enjoy both romance and some suspense!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️ I read this entire book in one 2 hour sitting!! I could not put this book down! This book is action packed with high stakes and a steamy relationship between Xavier and Isabela! Even though this is a shorter read the relationship between these two felt like it developed so naturally and was perfectly paced! They were so honest and open with each other and the banter between them was SO good! The spice in this book was definitely spicing!
Thank you to AA DaSilva and IRIS for an ARC copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Having read DaSilva’s other books, I just knew I was going to enjoy this one. It was fast-paced, filled with action and suspense, and the tension between the MC’s was thicc. The slow burn was absolutely worth it, and overall I’m really glad I picked up this book!
Thank you to the author and Iris influencer PR for providing me a early copy in exchange for my honest review.
What a quick read that was filled with high stake action, if you like a romantic suspense with a little bit of a slow burn then definitely read this. It’s only 180 pages and it’s such a page turner. It will have you wanting more and more. But once the ending comes you’ll feel complete with their HEA.

This was great! Shorter than my usual reads yet but just as impactful! I loved every second of this story from front to back. I was invested in the characters and the plot/ mystery. The adventure they take doesn’t feel long and boring, but essential to their bonding and is the perfect amount of timeline here. We’ve got action and banter and fun teasing with nicknames. It’s a blushing moment before the steamy scenes! Ugh so good. Recommend
We have Xavier that is down on his luck after a mission gone wrong. An old mate calls him and has a job offer for him if he wants it, and it will pay well. All he has to do is take a scientist and her antidote to a base on the West Coast. Think it will be easy, right? Nope, he was so wrong and found out why they wanted him for the job. We have Isabel trying to shake him off from the word "go," and then other people are after them the whole time on this trip. Lest just say they had one heck of a ride the whole time in this book.
I ate this up!! Delicious combo of romance and suspense with top notch banter 😋
If you're a fan of enemies to lovers, high stakes and healing past trauma through connection, this is for you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fractured Valor by A.A. DaSilva completely pulled me in from the very first pages and never let go. This story is the perfect mix of high stakes action, emotional depth, and a romance that slowly builds under pressure in the most addictive way.
Xavier is the kind of hero who carries the weight of his past in every decision he makes. After a mission gone wrong, he is clearly a man trying to outrun his own demons, and watching him get pulled back into a dangerous assignment makes for such a gripping ride. Beneath his hardened exterior there is so much pain, loyalty, and vulnerability that makes him impossible not to root for.
Isabel was just as compelling. She is brilliant, stubborn, and fiercely independent, even when she is forced to rely on someone else for protection. I loved the tension between her and Xavier. Their banter, the constant push and pull, and the slow shift from resistance to trust made their connection feel real and earned.
What really stood out to me was how well the author balanced the adrenaline of the mission with the emotional journey between these two characters. The danger never lets up, but at the same time the story digs deep into guilt, redemption, and what it means to open your heart when you are convinced you do not deserve happiness.
By the time the truth about their past connection comes to light, the emotional stakes are sky high. It added another powerful layer to an already intense story and made the romance feel even more meaningful.
Fractured Valor is a thrilling romantic suspense that delivers action, heart, and characters you cannot help but become invested in. If you love protective, broken heroes, strong heroines, and a story that keeps your heart racing while also making you feel something deeper, this is absolutely one to pick up. I was hooked from beginning to end and will definitely be looking forward to more from A.A. DaSilva.
Thank you for the arc... 4.5 Stars rounded to 5 stars... I literally drowned in this book... It was so good and fast paced that I finished it in half a day.. The writing was beautiful and intentional.. The author did a really good job in structuring and aligning the characters that I felt their every emotion and hurt.. The story follows Xavier whose one failed mission broke him and he is no longer the man he used to be.. Drowning in guilt, alcohol, and ghosts of the past, he’s pulled back into the world he tried to leave behind for one last job.. And then comes Isabel ... A fiercely independent scientist who is unwilling to trust the bodyguard assigned to escort her.. I love a strong FMC abd Isabel was written fantastically.. Her sassiness combined with the stuuborn natur of Xavier really did the job of igniting their chemistry to a whole level... Their dynamic was what carried on the story... I enjoyed their banter.. Xavier is all restraint, buried trauma, and quiet intensity, while Isabel meets him with defiance and fire. Underneath it all is a past connection that slowly unravels in the most devastating way... What seems liks a scene with tension is filled with underlying layers of trauma, grief, and healing that gives the story its depth... The romance is well written and we can cut the tension with a knife... It doesn’t romanticize pain and shows how messy it is to carry it… and even messier to let someone see it. The pacing leans fast and gripping, balancing action with emotionally heavy moments that hit harder the more you understand these characters. This book is the perfect combination of a broken MMC trying not to feel and a guarded FMC who refuses to be controlled...
Okay bookish friends, let me tell you, this book is PROOF that length doesn’t define impact. For such a short read, Fractured Valor packed a PUNCH. It didn’t feel rushed, nothing felt like it was missing, and it gave me ALL the feels plus incredible action that kept me on my toes. THIS is what I want in a dark romance! 🗡️
And as a woman in STEM myself? I LOVED the science aspect woven into this story. We need more of this!
We follow Isabel, who has created an antidote for a bioweapon that’s landed in the wrong hands of the cartel. She’s stubborn, feisty, and witty, everything I want in a FMC. Then there’s Xavier, whose past of failing a mission has sent him down a dark path, and now he’s looking for redemption. That redemption comes in the form of providing security to transport Isabel and her antidote across the country to her brother in the military.
I loved watching their story unfold because you go from Isabel NOT wanting him as her personal bodyguard to her fighting her feelings about this man. The tension between them is HIGH and once it cracks? BLISS. 🔥 What I really loved is that the romance and the plot were interwoven throughout the entire story, one minute you’re yelling at them to give in, the next you’re yelling at them to RUN. I can’t say too much but the pacing in this one is chef’s kiss.
If you want a fast-paced, short dark crime romance, pick this one up! Add it to your TBR immediately!
Thank you to @iris.influencer.society for gifting me this ARC in return for an honest review! 💜
Fractured Valor had so much packed into it. Emotion, banter, tension, longing, and that deep ache of yearning that lingers long after you put the book down.
Xavier, our MMC, is already at rock bottom when we meet him after losing everything he had built for himself. He is ex-military, retired, and ends up working as a contract assassin for the U.S. government (but now that'sgone). He is carrying pain, defeat, and a heavy sense of self-loathing, and you feel every bit of it. Then we meet Isabel, our FMC, a brilliant scientist developing an antidote for a bioweapon, who is also battling her own demons.
This story is layered with heartbreak, guilt, worry, and an underlying distrust of people that shapes both of them in such a real way. The setup of this story was flawless, from the prologue to the one year later. It pulled me in immediately and never let go. It was packed with detail and plot in a way that kept me completely hooked. The character arcs were especially strong. Watching Xavier climb out of a downward spiral and find purpose again was powerful. And Isabel’s journey from a closed off, untrusting person to someone who learns to open up fully felt just as impactful. I truly fell in love with these characters and their story.
This is definitely not your typical romance. It is action packed, full of danger, and even throws in a small plot twist that keeps things interesting. And yes, the main characters do get their HEA.
I just finished Fractured Valor by A.A. DaSilva, and for my first read from this author, I was instantly hooked by the premise. This story pulled me in right away, and while it reads more like a novella than a full-length novel, I actually loved the quick, sharp pacing. That said, the premise was so strong that I found myself wanting more, more backstory, more character development, more relationship buildup. You can feel the bones of a much bigger world here, and I kept thinking, “This could easily be a full novel, or even the start of a whole series.”
The chemistry between the leads is there, and the one spicy scene we get is solid especially for a shorter read but again, it left me wanting more in the best way. The action, the tension, the setup all feels like the beginning of something that could expand into a larger arc if the author chooses to go that route.
Even with its shorter length, this book delivered exactly what it promised: a fast, exciting, slightly spicy ride with danger, emotion, and a storyline that has so much potential to grow. I’m genuinely excited to see where A.A. DaSilva goes next, because this is exactly the kind of romantic suspense energy I love.
If you’re looking for a quick, thrilling read with action, chemistry, and a taste of spice, definitely run and check this one out. I’ll be keeping an eye on this author, the potential for a bigger series here is huge, and I’m ready for whatever comes next.
From the very first chapter, this story is packed with every kind of tension imaginable: emotional, physical, romantic. The action keeps you hooked, and the dynamic between Xavier and Isabel truly drives the story. It played out like a movie in my mind in the best possible way. Xavier’s internal struggle and haunted past make him a compelling hero, while Isabel’s intelligence and sharp tongue make her the perfect match for him. Their chemistry jumps off the page.
I loved how the book balances high-stakes danger with laugh-out-loud moments. The banter adds depth and realism, making the characters unforgettable. The romance is intense, and the heat is definitely HOT.
Without giving anything away, a hilarious bromance develops later in the story, and I absolutely loved it. I’m showing my age, but it reminded me of Maverick and Ice from Top Gun. That same competitive tension layered with undeniable respect.
DaSilva has done it again. Another thoroughly satisfying read I did not want to put down. If you enjoy action-packed romantic suspense with strong characters, sizzling chemistry, and the perfect touch of humor, I highly recommend Fractured Valor.
The story starts off with high intensity as the hero is an assassin for the government and on a mission that goes horribly wrong. Fast forward two years, he’s retired from the army and is basically a badly scarred drunk with no prospects. Enter an old army buddy who runs a security company and has been trying to get Xavier on his team for a while. He convinces Xavier to take on a small job—take a woman scientist with an antidote to a nasty drug across the county to her brother on an army base in San Diego. Isabel is stubborn and determined that she doesn’t need a babysitter – until she does. But even then, she fights against it—and against the feelings she is developing for Xavier.
Both Isabel and Xavier have issues with things in their pasts. It takes the entire trip for them to come to grips with those issues, especially when Xavier finds out about Isabel’s ties to his failed mission. As the danger escalates, so do their feelings for each other—leading to several steamy sex scenes. And a HEA that satisfies.
I will note that the story is told in multiple first person with each chapter headlined by who is the lead in that chapter. I know some people have an issue with this, but trust me, the story is worth it. Recommended.
Fractured Valor by AA DaSilva 4.5 out of 5 stars ARC
Thank you, DaSilva and IRIS, for this early copy. All parts of this review are of my honest opinion 💚
Although Fractured Valor is a short book, it is PACKED full of intense suspense, loads of action, and with romance brewing in the background. It's perfect for readers that don't want to commit to a long series or just need something fun or different to read.
I genuinely enjoyed it and decided that I needed to finish it all in one go. I even refused to go to sleep so I could finish it! I loved that we got to see all sides of everyone and see Xavier get his much needed revenge.
I can't help but say that anyone who likes Romantic Suspense or Bodyguard Romances, should pick up the book and give it a read. I believe you'll enjoy it AND if you haven’t made your reading goal yet, then that's even more reason to read Fractured Valor. At just under 200 pages, it's sure to get you closer to your goals!

One day at a time; one bad guy at a time—and there’s a whole slew of them—around every corner, it becomes a mission of international security as well as personal recovery. As Xavier and Izzy race against the clock, facing danger at every turn, he becomes fixated on more than just the mission. For a woman accustomed to feeling nothing, she makes him want to feel everything.
Our Review: This is AA DaSilva at her best: fast paced, descriptive emotions, complex, multi-layered characters and realistic, honest dialogue. Action-suspense plot lines like this don’t come any better.
Based on a scale of 1-5, Fractured Valor merits an 8. Kat Henry Doran, Wild Women Reviews
This may be a shorter read, but it still packs a solid punch. It delivers a great mix of action, romance, and suspense without ever feeling rushed. I was hooked from beginning to end and really enjoyed how the story balanced the mystery with the developing relationship.
Xavier and Isabela’s connection builds naturally, with forced proximity playing a big role in bringing them closer. Their journey together feels purposeful, not drawn out, and adds to the emotional weight of their bond. I especially liked Xavier’s military background and the way both characters were able to open up about their pasts, which made their relationship feel more genuine.
There’s also a fun layer of banter and teasing between them that keeps things engaging, with a few softer moments mixed in before the romance fully develops.
Overall, this was a 4-star read for me. I’d recommend Fractured Valor to readers who enjoy bodyguard romances, romantic suspense, and tropes like forced proximity and enemies-to-lovers.
This was a short and fast paced read with just the right amount of action mixed into the story despite this being mainly a bodyguard romance.
I loved the story and characters, the premise and in general the writing style - some of the jokes and banter between the MCs was simply hilarious! What I did miss a bit was some more depth in the development of the relationship between the MCs as I just could not feel the attraction and tension between them for maybe the first half of the book, though I was happy to see this improved later on. Maybe their story would have profited of it being slightly longer, so more detail could have been put into this part.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Fractured Valor and will certainly have a look into DaSilva's other books as they are refreshingly different from what I usually read and I think I could use a more frequent change of scenery some times.
Thank you to IRIS and AA DaSilva for providing me with an ARC and letting me read this book early.
While short, Fractured Valor was action packed and filled with tension! This story was the perfect “palate cleanser” for all of the romantasy books I’ve been reading recently! FV follows Isabel (MFC), aka Troublemaker, a lab scientist living in Boston who developed the antidote her brother Rio, a member of the US Military in California, needs. Xavier (MMC) is a US Military veteran “looking for a fresh start” and gets hired by his friend's security company to escort Isabelle and the antidote vials from Boston to San Diego. Along the way their drive is filled with smutty audiobooks, horrible music, banter, the occasional b*llet, and of course forced proximity TENSION. AA DeSilva did a great job of organically building the relationship given the short time frame and I love the vulnerability that both characters share. I enjoyed putting the pieces together as the story progressed and the ending was perfect!
Thank you to AA DaSilva and IRIS PR for the eARC of this story! All parts of this review are my honest opinion.

Fractured Valor is a fast, exciting romance about a bodyguard and the woman he’s protecting. Xavier, a former soldier, must keep Isabela safe as she’s carrying an important antidote. The two have great chemistry and their romance grows as they spend time together. The book is full of action, suspense, and a little bit of spice. Even though it’s a short read, the pace is consistent and it still delivers a lot of emotion and keeps you hooked. If you like protective heroes and intense, fast-paced stories, this one’s for you!
Thank you AA DaSilva & Iris for the opportunity to read this book in advance!
My favorite quote ? [My name is] Xavier. But, if I were a stripper, I’d probably go by Triple X.
Thank you to IRIS Influencer society for the ARC opportunity.
This isn't one of those easy reads you fly through and forget. It sits with you. Quiet at first and then suddenly it's all you can think about. Everything feels a little off balance in a way that works. The characters don't always make the "right" choices, and that's exactly what makes it hit harder. You can feel the the weight behind every decision, every silence, every moment where things could've gone differently but didn't. The tension? it doesn't scream but it just stays there, steady, building, until you realize you've been holding your breath the whole time. It's complicated. A little uncomfortable but also the kind of story you don't want to look away from.
Romantic suspense Bodyguard romance Forced proximity Enemies to lovers
A romantic suspense and it’s under 200 pages! Yes please!
Rules for traveling cross country with a bodyguard:
1.Don’t mistake him for a stripper on your first meeting.
2.Don’t leave your spicy audiobook hooked up to truck bluetooth.
3.Don’t let him give you a nickname.
4.DO NOT fall in love!
What a strong FMC Isabel was. The way she held her own in multiple life threatening situations… total bada$$. Shes a brilliant scientist, can shoot a 🔫, and dominate at pool!
I loved watching the two of them open up to eachother. They were both scarred in their own way. There was no pity or judgement. They were both just there for eachother, even in the beginning when they were butting heads.
From flirty banter to late night confessions and evading multiple murder attempts this is not your average road trip.
There is something about a bodyguard romance that does it for me. I absolutely loved this story. I was immediately pulled in to the story and characters. Literally had to know more about them. You have a retired military MMC who went through a traumatic event and is now in a dark place. He gets offered a job to escort a scientist across country but is hesitant on taking the job until he sees her photo. It was giving love at first sight vibes but this story did a wonderful job at progressing their relationship correctly. The FMC is very guarded due to past relationships. I loved experiencing the characters heal each other on this journey. It was action packed, with suspense and sexual tension. I didn’t want the story to end. I did wish there was more spice but the one scene that was in there was delicious. This author knows how to write spice. Hopefully she will embrace it in the next book.
This was such an amazing, complete, and satisfying romance!
I love series and longer books, but with just under 200 pages, the author wrote it so well that I couldn’t get enough.
The introduction to the main characters was strong, and the enemies-to-lovers dynamic was clear from the start. They truly only tolerated each other, at first, until they couldn’t resist anymore. Xavier is such a sexy, strong, yet vulnerable MMC, and Isabel is the perfect hard-headed, spunky FMC with a soft side.
The banter between them was fun, with some genuinely funny lines sprinkled throughout the story.
One thing I really appreciated was how the characters didn’t drastically change from who they were at the beginning. Instead, they evolved through their growing relationship, which made their connection feel believable.
There were also a few open-door spice scenes with some great spicy lines, which added nicely to their chemistry and made me pause.
