Quinn Brooks is patient, intuitive, and endlessly compassionate, all traits she hides beneath sharp eyes, bold confidence, and a tongue that could slice diamonds.
Michael Sarris, lead drummer of Devil’s Halo is loud, gorgeous chaos wrapped in trouble, who covers every insecurity with jokes, parties, and the kind of flirting that should be illegal.
What begins as snarky banter and accidental chemistry turns into a connection neither of them was prepared for. He’s spent years drowning out his feelings. She’s spent years holding everyone else’s. And, now they’re forced to face their own.
When the noise fades, can these two complicated souls find a rhythm strong enough to save each other?

Devil's Beat was better than I could have anticipated. The very brief intro of Quinn at the end of Devil's Riff, gave just enough an inkling of what to expect. I can't say how much I loved this! Being Sadie's sister means she almost naturally fell in with the guys of Devil's Halo quite quickly. She's great at getting under Mikey Sarris's nerves, something he will deny until his spiraling. It was emotionally tense but worth it. The miscommunication/ unspoken wants was all too relateable! Ending is 👨🍳💋!
Love how everyone in the series is still involved! Luc gets down, Dean and Sadie are quite homey, and we get to see a glimpse into Hayden a bit more. Can't wait to see what his story is in Devil's Bass!

As the noise around them fades, Quinn and Mikey must decide if two complicated hearts can find a rhythm strong enough to heal or if even the strongest beat eventually falls silent.

Devil’s Beat is the 3rd book in the Devil’s Halo series A Rockstar Romance Series by Michelle Windsor. This is a steamy contemporary rockstar romance filled with emotional healing, sharp banter, and the kind of love that feels like finding your rhythm for the first time.
I love music, and I love the music genre. In this 3rd installment of the Devil’s Halo series, we follow Mikey Sarris, the Devil’s Halo party boy drummer and Quinn Brooks the bands photographer’s sister.
We are once again reunited with Lucifer and Lily from “Devil’s Muse” the 1st book in this series and Dean and Sadie from “Devil’s Riff” the 2nd book in the series. And while you can read this book as a standalone, you will get much more enjoyment out of this book if you read the series in order. You’ll get to know our characters better and you’ll get to know each of the couples as they come together.
Michelle does such a stunning job in creating and writing these characters. She has written these books so well that I ate this book up in just one day. Devil’s Muse was like this beautiful fever dream I couldn’t escape from. Devil’s Riff felt like I was reading music for the first time. Devil’s Beat had the steady rhythm the music I was listening to had.
"Still breathing usually means it matters" This is when the entire connection starts to beautifully shift. When this book starts it flies off into its own story. We are given the chance to see Mike for who he really is, not the persona he portrays. Mikey’s always been the wild one, he’s been the life of the party, he’s always had a girl (or two) on his arm, with a bottle of tequila in the other, and he’s always got something smart to say, sometimes without thinking what he’s saying through. But he does prove that there’s more to him then what we see on the surface. We get to see what’s deeper down, under the surface.
At first, I found Quinn to be arrogant and constantly observing everyone and everything and she acted like a know-it-all and she kind of acted like she was a therapist the way she analyzed everything.
Mikey did find her somewhat annoying, even when she first appeared in Devil’s Riff. But we also saw that Sadie was like that In Devil’s Muse and Devil’s Riff. Sadie would step in whenever she was needed, she was always this quiet observer even when the rest of the band was ignoring what was happening. So, it really does make sense why Quinn is so observant. Her know-it-all tone is just really rather annoying next to Mikey being a constant grump.
Yes, Mikey has this chip on his shoulder. But I can understand it in a lot of ways. Mikey has an older brother who manages to hold everything together without question (I have a younger sister like that) just these wild antics. Now Mikey feels like he has something to prove (it might be this drive to be better than Lucifer) or maybe it’s to distract himself (kind of the way that Dean distracted himself from his first love).
I loved this book, now I can’t wait to get my hands on Hayden’s story, the small teasers and snippets we got in Devil’s Beat were not enough, I need the full book.
If you love a great love story, a stunning rockstar romance that is a torturous slow-burn with all the angst and longing you could ever want then Devil’s Beat is your book and I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
Mikey- he's a drummer. I have been patiently waiting for his story since book 1! He puts on a mask. He's a partier, a flirt and doesn't let people see the real him.. until Quinn. Hes determined to show her he's so much deeper than what's shown on the surface.
Quinn- Sadie's sister (Sadie is FMC from Devils Riff, book 2) she is quiet, very observant. She notices everything. She's a psychologist who works with teens. She notices every single detail especially when it comes to Mikey. Overall she's just super sweet, and genuine.
Their banter is hilarious. There's a lot of it especially in the beginning. The author does a fantastic job at showcasing the tension between them and the shift in chemistry. You can feel it as you're reading. The burn is slow and their relationship grows organically. It's so realistic and raw. She sets boundaries and he respects them. Never crosses any lines. This was beautifully written, at times I felt it was even poetic, and authentic. Two people who build a friendship, knowing they are attracted to one another, but want that solid foundation. Always being there when it matters and counts. Taking things slow, and taking comfort in the moment of going step by step until they can't deny the magnetic pull anymore.
Experiencing every emotion, the apprehension, the tension, the grounding, the change in chemistry. Mikey is patient, kind, persistent yet also respecting her space. Quinn is apprehensive and I love that she doesn't just give in. She wants to be sure. Especially with the huge life changes she has made. I was rooting for them the entire time (obviously knowing they get their HEA) its a super sweet read that has you kicking your feet! I thoroughly loved the ride of how they got to their HEA. 💖
I have absolutely loved this entire series. Each characters story has brought something different to the table and I'm excited to see what happens in Haydens! With things that got hinted at 👀👀 yesssss 😍 sign me up 🙌
Book Tropes: Rockstar Romance, Drummer, Opposites attract, Slow burn, Friends to lovers, Close proximity, Found family.
Michael (Mikey) Sarris, is the lead drummer of Devil’s Halo. Mikey is also Dean's brother, the guitarist for the band. Now that Dean and Sadie are together, Mikey isn't sure where he belongs. Mikey always seems to be doing something to keep his hands / mind busy. When he gets to thinking too much he spirals, and then over thinks, and over worries about things that aren't in his control. When he meets Quinn in New York she quiets his chaos. A calm comes over him when they meet and are together.
Quinn Brooks is sister, who we met in book #2, Devil's Riff, she is Sadie sister, who is the photo journalist who has been with the band the past few months while they've been on tour. Quinn met Sadie and the band in New York when they did the show there. Quinn and Mikey had some heated moments of watching each other through that weekend.
Quinn has a new job opportunity in Chicago, where her sister, Sadie and her boyfriend are now that the tour is over. Quinn takes the job but isn't sure where she should live, and while living with Sadie and Dean is nice, it is too far from her job in the city. Mikey steps up and suggests he take his extra room in his apartment which would be closer for her commute. Quinn isn't sure at first, but she knows living 3 train stops away from her job is going to be fantastic instead of the 2 hrs from Sadie's.
Quinn and Mikey are drawn to each other. But, Quinn doesn't want anything to happen between them as she isn't sure about the apartment / rent / living situation. Mikey is trying to gain her trust and for her to see him. But, she keeps missing the connection he wants to share with her.
Will Mikey and Quinn be able to connect on a romantic level? Or will Quinn win out and keep their relationship friendly?
I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book from the Author, Michelle Windsor. I am freely leaving a honest book review.
Let me lead with: Yes, you can totally read this as a standalone. But I felt a little bit left out on the whole group dynamic and think there are some parts of the story that refer or are related to things that happened in the first two books. Mainly character behavioral wise. And I'm missing Quinn and Michael's first encounter. I think that's quite crucial to the place their relationship starts off in this book. As I haven't read book 1 and 2, I don't know how/if it was mentioned there in in which capacity.
The story itself has an easy flow and the longing, the slow burn was killing me. I absolutely enjoyed reading it!
Quinn is an easy to love heroine. And I like how she challenged Michael and called him on his masking. What I don't understand is, why this changed when their relationship started to develop. And as far as I understood she's in psychology and needs her sister at the end to help her understand Michael's behavior while she understood him and saw through his masks so easily at the beginning.
I like how Michael started to change. But I would have loved to see deeper into his soul. His troubles and why drowned his noise in alcohol. I think his character and its development has so much potential that wasn't quite reached.
Overall this is a lovely rockstar slow burn with all the longing.
**Vibes first because this one?? SPICY, EMOTIONAL, and FULL OF HEART 👀🥁🔥**
• rockstar romance 🎸 • grumpy(ish) x sunshine with bite 🖤 • emotional healing • “he hides behind chaos, she hides behind control” • banter + chemistry
Yeah… I was hooked FAST.
Devil’s Beat hits that perfect balance between fun and emotional. You’ve got the chaos of the rockstar world—but underneath it?? Two people carrying way more than they let on 👀
And Mikey?? Loud, reckless, flirty… but it’s all a mask. The more you see past it, the more you realize there’s so much going on under the surface 🔥
Quinn?? Sharp, strong, and used to holding everything together—and watching her finally *not* carry everything alone?? That hit 🖤
Their dynamic?? SO good.
The banter is sharp, the chemistry is instant, and that slow shift from playful tension to something deeper?? Yeah… I was invested 👀
✨ This is a 5⭐ because: • the emotional depth balances the romance perfectly • the banter and chemistry are strong from the start • both characters feel layered and real • it’s addictive, heartfelt, and hard to put down
✨ If you love: • rockstar romance 🎸 • emotional healing stories • strong FMCs • flirty, chaotic MMCs with depth
This one is fun, emotional, and hits you right in the heart 👀🔥
Everyone knows rock band drummers can be the craziest guys in the band. Mikey exemplifies this! A different girl at every stop...or sometimes more than one. A bottle in his hand all the time. Living life on the edge...always...until someone doesn't bow down to his awesomeness.
Quinn, psychologist to teens, and wanting something more, outrageously flirts with Mikey...then walks away. She feels like he might be too much for her. Confusion reigns with both of them.
When the tour is over and Devil's Halo heads back to their base in the Chicago area, Quinn has a chance for a new position also in the Chicago area. Mikey lets Quinn know he has a room for her, rather than staying with her sister. Will they take their relationship from friends to something more?
Well written and with all the feels. I am loving this series. The growth shown by both characters hits all the right spots. The characters in this series continue through each book. Although you could read them as standalones, I think reading the books in order would be best.
This was probably my favorite in the series so far. Yes, it’s another slow burn with low spice and I’m literally in my slow-burn slump era… 💀but I actually really enjoyed this off-season rockstar roommate romance.
Watching Mikey grow from a total fuckboy drummer into someone trying to play it safe because he genuinely wanted something real with Quinn, the psychiatrist, was honestly so cute. The sexual tension? I could’ve sliced it with a knife. Their chemistry felt natural, soft, and surprisingly domestic in the best way.
And I stand by what my Sylus says: when you love someone and spend that much time with them, you slowly start to change. You start liking what they like. You soften. I saw that here, and I loved it. Now I’m just here waiting (im)patiently for Hayden’s HEA.
This is my honest opinion for the ARC I received. Thank you, Michelle, for the opportunity.
Great story! I was a little lost in the beginning as to how the characters connected as I hadn't read Books 1 and 2, but it just made me want to go back and read those books now. Mikey and Quinn are such interesting characters; the author did a great job of showing their individual feelings, insecurities and growth and how their relationship evolves. I would liked to have had a little more background into Mikey's past in the beginning so as to understand his reactions to certain things/situations. But it's an awesome slow burn. And the end includes a great setup for the next book about a different member of the band. Definitely worth reading.
I love the way I can always count on Michelle's books to get me out of a reading slump! I think Devil's Beat was the perfect addition to the Devil's Halo series! Mikey and Quinn's story felt a lot slower than the previous books but I think that's exactly what they needed. Every decision they made was slow, sweet, and deliberate. Who'd have thought a drummer and a psychologist would work so well together? I also can't wait to read more about Hayden in the next book (Devil's Bass)! I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to read an ARC copy of Devil's Beat and I am voluntarily leaving this review! :)
I volunteered to ARC read this, because who doesn't love a rockstar romance?! This gave similar vibes to "The Bittersweet Symphony" trilogy, which I loved! I give this 3.5/4 stars. I wasn't aware it was book 3, and maybe that deterred me from enjoying it fully. I felt like there wasn't much character development for the fmc, Quinn. The mmc, Mikey, changes his rockstar persona because he falls in love and wants to be better for Quinn. Definitely a feel good book where you're rooting for the couple!
Mike and Quinn were skirting around each other, until she makes the decision to move to the same city as her sister (and Mikey)… His offer of help came out of the blue and led to a wonderful story full of slow burn tension. This was relatively low angst… just, quiet growth and a slow realisation of their feelings…. A little bit of worry at the end, but it just seemed to smooth over fairly easily… A nice book if you want to just chill out and watch a sweet couple fall into their forever...
This was a light, fast-paced romance. Easy to read and easy to enjoy. Quinn is an amazing character (I actually loved her introduction in Devil’s Riff), and from the beginning, you can tell that she and Mikey are inevitable. She is direct, clever, and very observant. Mikey has his own issues, and you can understand them because he has always been “the second.” He grows a lot throughout the book, showing his true self. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot! It was very romantic and had a lot of yearning!
Thank you to the author for this ARC copy. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Wow - this series just keeps getting better and better. I honestly feel that these books should be made into movies - yes, they are that good. In the third installment of the series, Michelle Windsor takes her readers on a slow-burn, high anxiety journey of love and redemption. Quinn and Mikey are two souls that flourish when they come together. Walls are broken down and feelings are honest and true, Love this series!! This is a must read.
I’m obsessed!! Each story in this series just gets better and better. You feel everything these characters are dealing with, going through. The emotional depth and realization makes you want to stop, think and evaluate. Relate to them, their story. Mikey and Quinn are chefs kiss and I highly recommend. You need to stop whatever you are doing and one click immediately. I cannot wait for the next one.
Mikey and Quinn This was Mickey and Quinn's story. I really enjoyed it. It was a great slow burn romance, with forced proximity, a drummer, and more! The back and forth, tender moments turned to love, and overall chemistry was so good. There was drama, humor, friends and family, tension, and spice. We also see growth and healing in Mikey and Quinn. Overall, this was such a great read!
Always can count on these books to be fantastic and what I need to put me in a great mood! I loved this one! Mikey and Quinn are a great couple. She calms his chaos so well! He is just so worried about being analyzed by her and his outlandish ways.
I loved the story and all of the characters. These books have all been great in this series. Can’t wait for the next one!
Our FMC and MMC started out in the book with a bit of humor as well as some "off the page" chemistry that let me know that this was going to be a great book and it did not disappoint! Friendships are built and attraction begins its slow burn. The buildup is a beautiful journey as the relationship grows and I absolutely loved it! This is a lovely story that I very much recommend!
If you're a fan of Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series or Kristen Callihan's VIP series, you're going to love the men of Devil's Halo and the women who challenge them. A third installment in the series, Devil's Beat follows their wild party boy drummer, Mikey, and their photographer's sister. The previous 2 couples are fairly apparent in this story, so it's not recommended as a stand alone -- and because I absolutely love the first 2 couples/stories, I highly recommend starting there first. Michelle Windsor writes these characters so well, that I burned through this book in 2 evenings. Devil's Muse was like a beautiful fever dream. Devil's Riff felt like I was reading music. Devil's Beat has a steady rhythm.
"Still breathing usually means it matters" And that's when the connection shifts. When the book takes off into it's own story. Mikey is seen for himself instead of his persona. He's always been the wild, life of the party with a girl (or two) on one arm, a bottle of tequila in the other and always something smart to say. But he proves he's deeper.
Initially, I was slightly put off by Quinn. She seemed arrogant and constantly just observing in a know-it-all way as a therapist analyzing everything Mikey did even from her first appearance in Devil's Riff. However, considering Sadie was like that in both previous books (for Lily and Dean), stepping in when needed, a quiet observer when the rest of the band ignored what was happening, it makes sense Quinn is observant. But it's almost irritating her quiet know-it-all tone and Mikey's constant grump. Sure, Mikey has a chip on his shoulder. He is the little brother who holds everything together without question, just wild antics. He has something to prove (to be better than Luc) or distract himself (like Dean's distraction from his first love). Overall, the story is an easy read without complex issues but firm boundaries and realistic emotions. Devil's Riff is my favorite of the series so far, but Devil's Beat is a strong contender. Absolutely recommend! And eagerly awaiting Hayden's story... The snippets and teasers here were not enough!
She wants to know she isn’t temporary or a fling and sees way too much for his liking. Mikey shows up behind closed doors with thoughtfulness, insight, restraint, and care. When they decide how to move forward it’s done with intention. Loved their inner dialogue and how they make their relationship home.
This is the third book in the Devil's Halo series. Quinn and Mikey‘s story is an engaging slow burn. It’s very intense and filled with drama, emotion and spice. It’s a very good read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Ohh I really loved reading this book. The banter between Quinn and Mikey and also the more heavy stuff it all just felt like it belonged in their story, in their way to each other. I loved it and can't wait for more.
A slow burn, that ignites towards the end. Mikey and Quinn's story is different and more than you expect from a Rockstar romance and doesn't disappoint
“I didn’t expect you to feel like home. And I don’t know how to go back from that. And that scares the hell out of me.”
Devil's Halo tour has finally come to an amazing tour. Quinn and Mikey flirted a little while on tour but she ultimately turned him down. Mikey was living the Rockstar Tour life a little too hard for Quinn but she couldn't pull herself away completely.. which is why when she gets a new job in the same city as Mike and he offers her a place to stay, she says yes.
Mikey and Quinn is the slow-burn, forced proximity love story that is going to live rent free in your head. Confident and cocky Mike is completely thrown off by Quinn from the beginning. Quinn is quiet and observant but she is going to hold Mike accountable for his actions/words. Seeing Mike wanting to take his time with Quinn.. to get to know her but then showing how self destructive he can be? How stubborn they both are?! How Mikey knew what Quinn needed when she needed it!? I found myself cheering them on the whole time.. even when she was more hesitant than she should have been.
Rockstar romance, Slow Burn, Forced proximity, Friends to lovers, 1st person POV, dual
A slow burn read but oh so good! I have enjoyed this interconnected series. We got a little taste of Mikey and Quinn’s chemistry in Devil’s Riff so I couldn’t wait to read this one. Michelle did 👏🏼not 👏🏼disappoint! Each release has topped the last. She leaves us a little bread crumb in each book keeping us in HIGH anticipation for the next!! Eeep. Love Love!
I really enjoyed Mikey and Quinn's story. Two people who start as friends but find themselves wanting more. Will these two finally stop holding back and tell each other how they feel? You'll want to read their story to find out. Michelle brings us a great friends to lovers romance that you're sure to love.
Quinn takes a leap of faith . Not only in her personal life as well as her work life. She comes across so calm, & relaxed, doesn't let to much get to her. Mikey is her total opposite. He loves the spotlight but the spotlight is always on him for reasons he is growing tired of. He decides he needs to change for the better, become more focused on other things in life than all that he had been focused on before. Both characters are going through changes in their lives. It is great to have a friend to confide in when the days are great & when they are bad days. They take the time to really get to know one another before they end up together. Mikey is so sweet with all his gestures & Quinn ends up grounding Mikey & little does she know she is planting some roots as well.
