Huxley Hosea was at the lowest of the lows.

Exhausted—both mentally and physically—he could barely put one foot in front of the other. Tired to the bone due to a never-ending war. He was desperate to find a new every day that didn’t revolve around getting shot at by kids that could barely hold a rifle steady. War had broken his soul, and the last thing he wanted to do was go home and pretend that he was just a normal citizen.

But then he sees her, also at her lowest of lows, for the first time, and his soul latches on. Bernice, his salvation.

He’s convinced that she’s the answer to his woes, and he develops an unhealthy attachment to her that carries over to his civilian life. For five years, he watches her. Protects her. Keeps her safe when she won’t protect herself. Hux follows her every move and hides in the shadows so she’ll never see.

Then she shows up in his town, and all bets are off.

She’s in his town now. That means his rules. His way. And no more highway.

She’s stuck, and she’ll never know it until it’s too late for her to run.

Do you believe in soulmates or fated mates? This compelling question lies at the heart of the story woven around Bernice and Hux, whose journey of love, family secrets, and resilience has captured the hearts of many. The essence of this contemporary romance shines through as a testament to the enduring power of connection and healing.

This novel is much more than a simple love story—it’s a delicate blend of romance, family drama, suspense, and emotional depth. What makes it noteworthy is its ability to balance lightness and gravity, humor and heartbreak, in a plot that feels authentic and deeply human. From the start, I was drawn into Bernice’s world: a woman defined by her warmth, indomitable spirit, and fierce loyalty to her brother, despite the medical challenges that test her resolve. Her character is refreshingly vibrant and relatable—her sense of humor and kindness brighten the pages and invites genuine affection from the reader.

Hux, her counterpart, adds an intriguing layer of tension and tenderness. The story builds around his quiet struggle to maintain distance despite a profound attraction, a push-and-pull dynamic that feels convincingly natural rather than contrived. His gruff exterior, softened by the respect and compassion he shows Bernice, creates a swoon-worthy model of masculinity—flawed, vulnerable, yet unwaveringly protective. Their chemistry crackles in a way that rings true, avoiding the usual pitfalls of instant love clichés and instead maturing into a grounded, heartwarming partnership.

Beneath the romance, the plot’s suspense and family drama enrich the story. Bernice’s search for her lost brother and the secret that threatens them injects a gripping tension that keeps the momentum brisk and the stakes high. Moments of heartbreak and vulnerability are handled with sensitivity, allowing the plot's emotional punches to land with real impact. The friendships and second chances woven through the story add layers that resonate beyond the central couple, painting a fuller picture of human connection.

A tale driven by heartfelt characters and genuine emotional stakes. Readers who appreciate romances infused with family complexity, personal growth, and a hint of suspense will find this story thoroughly rewarding.

This is a heartfelt and engaging romance that delivers on all fronts: love, drama, and emotional catharsis. It’s a perfect pick for anyone who enjoys stories where soulmates must navigate real-world challenges and secrets to find their happy ending. I found myself moved by Bernice and Hux’s journey—not just for their romance but for the way their story celebrates resilience, loyalty, and the messy beauty of life itself. This book leaves you reflecting on the ties that bind us and the extraordinary power of love to heal old wounds. Who among us hasn't longed for a connection that feels truly fated?

It's crazy how clueless Bernice was about so much. Not seeing Huxley watch her so much, how bad her neighbors are, thinking being stalked by a serial killer isn't a big deal. It was the last one that had me shaking my head at her. I was glad that she came clean about that with Huxley and then that he spilled it to her brother and everyone else. They really needed all the Dixie Wardens to help keep her safe and even then it wasn't quite enough. I do like the fate of the bad guys, both of them got what they deserved! It was nice to see this couple happy, all the way, long into the future.

I'm really enjoying this series from what I've read so far. I haven't read every single one prior to this, but it doesn't seem to matter. A bit OTT with the plot, but I don't mind. We met the h Bernice in Birdee and Creed's book. She's Creed's younger sister. And you could tell throughout the prior book that Bernice liked Hux, but he may have not reciprocated that feeling. Oh, contraire. Hux had been obsessed with Bernice for five years after having seen her on TV trying to get justice for her "murdered" brother. Which of course Creed was actually alive. Anyways, fate would have them meeting years later when she ends up in Montana. But for the romantics Hux wasn't celibate. He didn't know she'd end up in his hometown. Bernice also had a couple of unsuccessful relationships. Once Bernice ended up in his town he stopped sleeping around, but was a little hesitant because of Creed. But once these two got together it was full steam ahead. They were a great couple. I absolutely loved both of them. Though I've never been around someone with severe asthma IRL I don't know the accuracy of having to use an inhaler constantly throughout the day. But Bernice's health for tells what I thought was or could be coming in the epilogue.... I'll get to that last. Anyways, turns out that while a nurse back in her hometown in Alabama she saw the identity of a serial killer called the corpse violater. Don't have to go too much into that. But yes necrophilia. So she becomes a target from the sicko. He does show up later in the book. Finally catching up with her, but she's saved and has her HEA with Hux her OG stalker 😂. And yes, he was indeed stalking her. Think cameras all over her house without her knowing. Peeking into her bedroom window while she dressing and undressing. Plus, following her around. I love stalker heroes, so I had zero problems with Hux. He's actually my fav so far in this series.

Now to get to the epilogue which had two. The first one is happy, but the second was sad. This author went with a realistic ending that saw our MMCs being married for around 30 years, but ultimately Bernice succumbing to her health issues. I was so sad for Hux. 😭

I definitely recommend this series. I think it's one of this author's best honestly. But keep in mind these books are not free on KU and they're pricy. Unfortunately, I myself can not stop and I'm tempted to go back all the way to the beginning and purchase more.

Safety: it's kind of gory. The H is a veteran turned hunter and butcher. Keep that in mind

With Spite is book eight in the Don’t Date Him series by Lani Lynn Vale and is, in my opinion, one of the most emotional so far. Huxley Hosea is ex-military who is haunted by the things he has seen and done while serving his country. He’s a grump of epic proportions, but his quiet reserve and struggle to stay away from the one woman who became his sole focus five years ago will have you swooning.

We met Bernice in Creed’s book, as she is his sister, and is loyal to him to a fault. She has always been his biggest advocate in trying to get him freed from his false imprisonment, and is completely devastated when he is killed in prison. Learning her brother is actually alive, she moves to this small Montana town that has her risking her own life and health to be near him.

Hux and Bernice’s story is a slow burn, infused with secrets, family dynamics (both blood and found), and the quiet, but fiercely protective, unwavering reserve they both have for each other. It’s always the little things that make or break a love story, and this one definitely makes it. From Hux having the heated blankets and extra inhalers, to Bernice putting up with the most hateful boss (his mom) ever just to be near him, these two have a deep seated love and respect that grows naturally throughout the story and never feels rushed.

I don’t know what it is about this story, but it most definitely hit different with me. As with all of LLV’s stories, it’s full of family, love, laughter, and that touch of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, but there’s just something about Huxley and Bernice that made me feel this story even more than usual. And that bonus epilogue…yeah. LLV does warn us, but take heed and barrel through anyways with kleenex in hand. You won’t regret every tear that falls. This is one of those stories that will sit with you for a while and have you reflecting back over often.

With every new book in Lani Lynn Vale’s Don’t Date Him series, I fall a little more in love—not just with the unforgettable couples, but with the small mountain town that feels like coming home. It’s a series filled with heart, family, friendship, and characters who stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

But With Spite… this one hit differently.

Book eight delivers one of the most emotional stories in the series, and that extra epilogue? Have the tissues ready because there won’t be a dry eye in the house.

Huxley Hosea completely stole my heart. An ex-military hero, he carries the invisible weight of everything he witnessed while serving his country. He’s a man shaped by duty, loss, and memories that refuse to fade. Then there’s Bernice—a woman he caught a fleeting glimpse of five years earlier, an image that never left him. When fate finally brings her to his small mountain town, the connection between them is immediate, powerful, and impossible to ignore.

Their journey is beautifully written, balancing tenderness, healing, and hope. While the series is known for its wonderful supporting cast, this time they quite rightly take a step back, allowing Huxley and Bernice’s story to shine. Every page draws you deeper into their emotional journey, making every triumph and heartbreak feel incredibly real.

Lani Lynn Vale has once again delivered a romance that is full of heart, healing, and unforgettable emotion. With Spite is more than just another romance—it’s a story about finding peace after pain, discovering love when you least expect it, and proving that sometimes fate has been working behind the scenes all along.

A beautiful addition to an already incredible series.

5 I Did NOT See That Coming Stars!

Well, leave it to LLV to have me literally saying out loud WTAF?!?! This book is another great story in this amazing series and it revolves around Bernice, Creed’s sister and Huxley and I LOVED everything about this book.

Bernice is a woman that came to this small town in Montana to be with her brother after having not seen him for so many years. Of course, there’s more to this story than that, but I’m not going to give anything away. Little did she know that Hux has known her for a lot longer than she thinks and this just makes their story that much more interesting. The way these two come together seems to be destiny and while one of them is all in, the other is a little resistant. This just adds another level of awesomeness to their story.

Bernice has some challenges in her life and to see this man that can be intimidating, do everything in his power to make sure she has what she needs to be protected and treated the way she deserves to be. There are some great interactions with Hux’s family specifically his siblings and their true feelings about their Mom that had me laughing out loud!

The slow burn between Hux and Bernice is emotionally rich. The build up is so worth every moment from beginning to end for them. The way this man loves her is something she hasn’t experienced before, and I loved this for her.

The suspense of this book took a turn I truly wasn’t expecting and to say that I was on the edge of my seat as everything comes to a head is putting it mildly. This is one of my favorite things about LLV’s stories. She truly keeps me guessing right up to the end. This series has become one of my favorites by this author and I’m so looking forward to the next book!

Creed is one of the men Apollo broke out of jail and faked their death , their new lives were in Montana but Creed’s wife found Bernice and reunited the siblings , Creed had looked after Bernice when their mother decide street life and drugs were more important than motherhood and she believed in his innocence all along …. Thank you again Apollo for who you are and what you do 🤗

Bernice has health issues so she’s got to careful of her environment but she’s determined to be close to Creed and make a life for herself near her brother but what nobody knows is she’s on the run from a serial killer! I was like wait what ?!
Chapter 8 had my mouth dropping ! Of course it would be Huxley she told and he’s not going to take this threat lying down , not just because of Bernice but because of all them living their new lives , if the FBI gets involved everyone is at risk🫣😲

The man or men she’s running from is known as the “ Corpse Violator “ the name alone sends shivers down my spine and he’s one sick individual

Bernice has creepy neighbours but when she goes missing it’s them that give Huxley and the wardens an idea of where to go and I tell you what my nerves were shattered 😵‍💫

Huxley and Bernice connected from the get go and their chemistry is tangible I loved watching their story unfold and it did lighten the mood knowing someone was after her

I must be honest chapter 8 caught me off guard and I literally shouted
“ wait ….. what !? “ in a hospital room 🫣😂 I’ve enjoyed this series so much but this one was my favourite !

It was good to catch up with some old friends and the wardens 💕these people are awesome and own a piece of my heart 😉

Huxley was watching TV while he was waiting to go on watch and was mesmerized by the woman being interviewed as she cried heartbrokenly and claimed that her brother was innocent.

Five years later, he is home from the war and looking at the woman that he watched from overseas, wondering what the chances were that he would ever meet her in person.

And that she was the sister of one of his club brothers. That didn't stop his obsessive need to watch over and protect her without her being any the wiser.

Bernice was determined not to miss any more time with her brother, Creed, after she found out that he was not, in fact, dead. He had broken out of prison and staged his own death and now was a game warden in a small town in Montana. As soon as his new wife contacted her, she packed up everything, changed her name, and disappeared.

She was determined to live near her brother despite her severe asthma and anemia that kept her freezing all the time. It was summertime and she was wearing heavy sweaters.

But her brother isn't the only one keeping secrets. She has a deadly secret and it may have found her.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I haven't read any of the other books in this series... yet! I love all the secondary characters and especially Huxley's relationships with his siblings. Their mom... not so much.

This book is action-packed, full of danger and suspense and smoking hot with a stalkerish vibe. Have added the other books to my TBR list and can't wait to read them. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a storyline that has a delicate blend of romance, family drama and suspense. This is definitely the book for you. War had broken his soul, and the last thing he wanted to do was go home and pretend that he was just a normal citizen. Huxley Hosea was at the lowest of the low when he came home. But one thing was keeping him going all this time Bernice. He has a very unhealthy attachment to her that carries over to his civilian life. For five long years he watches herm protects her and keeps her safe when she wont protect herself. All bets are off when she shows up in his town.
Bernice is starting over now closer to her brother after battling for so long. She is trying to get away from her stalker that they call the "Corpse Violator" someone that has never been caught. She is closer to her brother where she feels a little safer.
This storyline truly keep me guessing until the end. The suspense is enough to keep you turning the page along with the sweet romance you get to see happen between Huxley and Bernice. Every page drew me into their emotional journey making every triumph and heartbreak feel incredibly real.
These two soulmates must navigate real-world challenges and secrets that could forever change them. I absolutely love how these two find peace after so much pain
I well written book. Once again Lani Lynn Vale brings you on an emotional ride with an amazing couple. I was hooked right from the beginning to the very end. Every page turning moment.

Oh, my word, this is getting so bad, but I can't pick a favorite in this series. Hux #sigh….

I loved him and Bernice 😊 I got hooked on their story and forced myself to read slowly, lol

Bernice found out her brother was alive and she packed up and moved to be with him. Hence her being in Hux’s orbit. But unbeknown to her, his been aware of her for years already, and was totally stunned when she walked into the clubhouse.

Bernice totally amazed me, she had really horrible asthma, but she moved to a place that makes it even worse just to be with her brother. I totally loved that she kept living her life even when it was hard for her.

As always with LLV stories, as soon as it looks like the couple is happy and into each other, something happens to blow up their happy. In their case, it seems that Bernice had a serial killer hunting her which she neglected to mention… Hello!!!

Hux immediately jumps into survival mode, and everyone is on high alert.

Totally so freaking good. I love a good suspense thrown into a romance. Add in some hot bikers what more could you want. Hux and Bernice, I love them together, his grumpiness to her sweet, loyal and fierce spirit, totally a match made in heaven.

FYI… that ending I was not ready Miss LLV, I know you said enter at your own risk, but I was not expecting that…

I am ready for the next one 😊

I write this review as the tears still tumble down my face and my heart is overwhelmed with emotions. With Spite is a storyline that is packed with drama, suspense, mystery and so much passion. From the moment that Hux lays eyes on Bernice's face he knew that she was his, she became is obsession from afar until the day she moved to his town. This couple will steal your heart with so much ease and the things that Hux will do to show Bernice how much she means to him will have you swooning like you have never before. You will be on the edge of your seat in anticipation, and you will be taken by surprise. What I loved most about this story was that even though there were some side stories and side characters, this story was ultimately about these two and what they would both do for each other. The journey for these two was filled with ups and downs but the love that they had for each other was larger than life. These characters and their story will hold your heart and soul long after you have finished the last page. This is a story you need to experience for yourself so there will be no oversharing of what is instore for you with this couple from me. Just know that this is a story that is worth every smile, every laugh, every nail-biting moment and definitely worth every tear that you will shed.

This book wrecked me, and I mean that in the best way possible. Lani Lynn Vale did warn us there was a moment that would hurt, but nothing could have prepared me for it. My heart is still recovering.

Bernice moves to Montana after learning her brother, Creed, is alive. With everything she’s been through, including her health struggles, being close to him is all that matters. Huxley first sees Bernice on television as she fights to prove her brother’s innocence, and years later fate brings them together when Creed becomes part of his motorcycle club.

I honestly thought the family drama was going to be the biggest hurdle because this series has been full of it. Then Bernice drops a bombshell that completely blindsided me. My jaw actually hit the floor.
Huxley and Bernice were perfect together. Their relationship felt genuine, their chemistry was undeniable, and the emotional payoff was everything I wanted.

This is Lani Lynn Vale doing what she does best. She knows exactly when to pull the rug out from under you, and I loved every page.

Thank you to Lani Lynn Vale and Give Me Books Promotions for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

If you have not read one book in the Don't Date Him Series from Lani Lynn Vale, then you are missing out some really great stories. I have loved every single one of them. With Spite is no exception. This is the story of Huxley and Bernice. Get ready to lose your heart because Huxley is about to steal it and not give it back. He has served his country and served it well. However, he carries the weight of all that he saw while fighting. The memories absolutely refuse to let go and he really struggles with all of this one his shoulders. Bernice is a girl that he had seen five years ago. It was only for a moment and a glimpse of a picture, but he has never been able to forget about her. Now fate has moves her into his small mountain town and the moment these two lock eyes, you can feel the connection bleeding off the pages. Now is where I have to shut up. You need to experience this story all on your own. I loved these characters and the story they had to tell, and I am sure I will never forget it. This is a beautiful story and you're emotionally going to be all over the place. So, buckle up, grab this book and I know you are going to love it as much as I did.

My heart hasn't recovered from this gorgeous MC adjacent love story. While this is technically part of the Dixie Wardens romance-verse, Hux and Bernice's unconventional path to a HEA isn't entwined in the workings of the MC. This story crosses over with previous couples as Bernice is Creed's sister. We have met her before as her health has raised issues with living in Montana. Hux is prepared for her with his heated blankets, underfloor heating and backup inhalers. He is a truly well thought out book boyfriend stalker and perfect for Bernice.

I adored how much he fought his attraction yet still watched out for her all day every day. And Bernice is shyly regarding him and wanting from afar. Hux is patient and rebuilds the spaces in Bernice where she has lost confidence. Her health concerns bring out his protectiveness rather than a source of judgement.

And what would a LLV romance be without an over riding threat? Turns out Bernice is being stalked by a serial unaliver. She is the one that got away. Not sure the SK expected the full force of the Dixie Wardens.

Be warned, have your tissues ready for the 2nd epilogue. What a tearjerker.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Hux & Bernice:

triggers- child abandonment, stalking, sexual harassment, parental favoritism, necrophilia, loss and grief.

OMG … My heart. This book. I can't even. I was in tears by the end. Just when I think Lani Lynn Vale can't possibly top her last book, she goes and pulls something out of her bag of tricks. I almost wish that this book is what ended the series, just by how well it's written. So, this book does not focus directly on one of the “Seven” but Bernice, who is Creed’s little sister who’s risking her health by moving to Montana to be near her brother and Hux, who's another member of the Dixie Wardens MC. Hux takes an interest in Bernice but hasn't made a move because his club brother asked him not to, but he was asked to look after her so that's what he'll do. Until looking after her just isn't enough. This is such a great story with a great set of plot twists. Plus we get to see some of our favorite Dixie Wardens from past series. It was an awesome way to remind the fans how far we've come in the LLV world. I truly enjoyed this one but that epilogue… 🤧😭 I can't.

With Spite is the love story of Bernice and Huxley and it was unexpected! Readers of the series know Bernice because she is the sister of one of the ex-cons who escaped to Sawtooth, Montana. She has severe asthma and everyone was always concerned that the intense Montana winters might not be something she can handle.

Huxley grew up in the area and his family owns the local shop. He now runs the butcher shop connected to it. His mother is an awful human being (its a theme in this series). I expected the tension to come from Hux's refusal to get involved with Bernice, but that is not the most significant event. Bernice has a secret and I did NOT see it coming. Overall, With Spite was a wonderful addition to the series and I continue to love these books!

  POV: dual 1st
  Tears: a few (especially the 2nd epilogue)
  Trope: on the run, secret identity

  Series/Standalone: standalone within an interconnected series

With Spite is another absolute hit in the Don't Date Him series! We finally get the story of Bernice—Creed’s sister whom we first met in People We Avoid—and her book did not disappoint.

Bernice has plenty on her plate dealing with health issues like asthma and anemia, but those take a backseat when she realizes her biggest problem is a serial killer hunting her down. Enter Hux, who has had it bad for Bernice for a while and decides now is the time to make his move. In true Lani Lynn Vale fashion, they are a match made in heaven. Hux steps up in every way possible, going above and beyond to protect her while being the absolute perfect boyfriend.

I enjoy these books so much—they are the perfect palate cleanser after finishing a long, complex novel. I love being able to lose myself in these short, fast-paced reads that always leave me smiling with their satisfying happily-ever-afters. I am so glad we still have four more books left in this series before it wraps up! As I’ve mentioned in my earlier reviews, I am thoroughly enjoying this Montana chapter of the Dixie Wardens and every single one of their stories.

With Spite is book 8 in the Don’t Date Him series and is fantastic!

I loved Hux and Bernice’s story. Hux is a meat processor/butcher at his family’s business, The Mercantile. He also has a secret obsession, and her name is Bernice.

Bernice moved to Montana after discovering that her brother was alive and not dead like everyone told her. There’s only one problem, she has severe asthma which is easily triggered. But nothing, not even her body will keep her away from her brother, Creed, again.

Bernice finds a job at The Mercantile, and sees Huxley for the first time and is mesmerised by his tattoos and his devil may care attitude. Now Bernice has to deal with Hux’s mother who has the worst attitude and is horrible to work for.

But being close to Hux helps her discover their connection and the fact that Hux is absolutely obsessed with her and wants to look after her.

Secrets are exposed and the plot twists in this book are awesome!

I love that this series is slightly different to Lani’s other books but they are just as good, if not better! I can’t wait for the next book!

I was pulled right into this story. The story has pain, twists & turns, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
House of BS & Lies (Don't Date Him #1)
People We Avoid (Don't Date Him #2)
Not A Side Chick (Don't Date Him #3)
Be The Full Problem (Don't Date Him, #4)
Forget That Guy (Don't Date Him, #5)
Spicy Disaster (Don't Date Him, #6)
Not A Gentleman (Don't Date Him, #7)

This is Bernice and Huxley’s story. He is her friendly stalker. He saw he on tv and fell for her now that she is in his town he tries to take care of her and help her out. But when he finds out she has another stalker and that one not so friendly he has to up his game. He has to make her his so he can protect her forever. But can he do that when he has no idea who the enemy really is? He never thought he would have a forever with her now that he wants one can, he actually get one? You get a little glimpse of some characters from other series in this story, and it makes it just so much more.

I highly recommend this book.

I have been waiting for Bernice’s story for a while and it was so much better than expected!
We know Bernice has medical issues that make living in Montana difficult but she doesn’t let it stop her. She doesn’t let her ailments stop her from anything. She knows her limitations, takes precautions, but continues living her life as she pleases.
Hux is awesome! Crazy how their paths crossed the first time then again 5 years later. Even though Hux was obsessed he still had some demons that made him keep his distance. But he also didn’t let opportunities pass him by. The way he went out of his way to ensure she always had her medications or something to keep her comfortable wherever she was, was perfection.
I REALLY wish we got a little more of a throwdown with his mom but I also recognize everyone was so done with her that it didn’t need any fanfare.
Also, that second epilogue….. Ugh. It was so beautiful but also so sad. I didn’t need to be shedding tears at 1AM but it was also comforting.

After losing years with her brother when not only was he wrongly incarcerated but believed to have passed away Bernice will do whatever is necessary to be close to him even if it only makes her health conditions worse. When she starts working at the store that Huxley’s mother owns it brings them closer, but she also has a secret that she needs to share not only with him but her brother as well.

The first time Huxley saw Bernice he was servicing his country overseas and he saw her unwavering love to her brother. Having her move to his hometown was fate and what began as keeping an eye on her turns into so much more and he is determined to protect her from not only the danger in her past but the toxic presence in the present as well.

The banter between them is humorous, the way that Huxley looks out for Bernice is endearing and these two characters will draw you in and capture your heart. As a side note the epilogue is both heartbreaking and inspiring and only reinforces the beautiful love they share.

This is the 8th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Huxley and Bernice’s story.
Huxley is ex-military, and he is haunted by what he saw and did while serving his country, while Bernice is Creed’s sister, and after he was imprisoned for a crime, he did not commit, she was devasted when she was told he had died in prison. After Bernice discovers that Creed is alive, she move to the small town putting her life and health at risk to be near her brother. Hux is very protective over Bernice, and they complement each other perfectly.
This is a well written slow burn, easy to read, action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family dynamics, friendships, secrets, tension, loyalty, suspense, intrigue, challenges, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and unpredictable, small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Huxley Hosea is bone-weary, tired of the war and everything going on overseas. He had nothing to look forward to until he saw an interview with a woman fighting for her brother's freedom. For some reason, that woman gave him the strength to stay alive. Now that he's home, things have not always been easy. One thing he never thought he would see was the woman from the TV. Bernice has not had an easy life, as her family was torn apart, and she has done everything she can to survive. But things for her have not been easy, and when she moves to a small mountain town, she gets more than she bargained for. When these two meet, you can feel the instant spark, but neither of them makes a move. When fate steps in, Huxley will do everything in his power to protect her, especially because her health is not always the best. Can these two have a relationship that both want, or will someone rip them apart?

Hux and Bernice❤️‍🩹

Once again, I curse myself for finishing this book so quickly, but I truly cannot not finish one of LLV’s stories quickly once I see it sitting in my inbox🥰

Hux and Bernice are up next in With Spite. Bernice is Creed’s sister that moves to be closer to him even though she suffers chronically with her Asthma. However, Hux finds ways in which to make her more comfortable when he discovers why she moved to be closer to her brother and they start spending more time together😍 I feel like Hux is a one in a million man and Bernice certainly struck it lucky, even though both came from some arguably challenging parental units. That ending made me😭😭😭 Great cameos from some favourite characters and I hope we get to know Hux and Bernice’s kids and cousins down the track🤞

I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️

~~~~~~~~~~ Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review ~~~~~~~~~~
Normally I don't have a problem getting into this author's books. For some reason I just could not connect with characters of this book. I normally love her stories, but I don't know if it was certain aspects of the story that I couldn't connect with or the main characters just didn't work for me. I loved the big family and all the connections and issues that they faced because that all seemed so real to me, coming from a big family myself. The story overall was a good story, and I did end up liking it. As I say with most of my reviews, I encourage readers to read them on their own and form their own opinions the opinions in my reviews are my own. I love this author and she is one of my top go to authors and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Exhilarating and passionate! We met Bernice in her brother Creed and Birdee's story earlier in the series, so seeing Bernice find her forever love is extra heartwarming. She relocated to Montana to have her bro in her life, and she suffers every day for it with her asthma. When she crosses paths with Huxley, she only has added incentive to be happy she now calls this town home. The characters are both endearing with strong stories behind them and their easy connection makes them easy to like. His family added a lot to the storyline and her past that ends up following her is unreal. Great characters, addictive storyline and another heart grabbing Vale happily ever after.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a fast paced story filled with good-hearted guys who find their happily ever after in the most unlikely circumstances.
I reached a certain part of the book and i was like, no she didn't?! Bernice has kept a big big secret, one she revealed only to Hux..
Hux is Hux..he just doesn't give one sugar about anything and anyone else except from his siblings..but he is obsessed with Bernice..not that this makes him nicer lol.
But he is all in and once he actually let her know ;) he seems more approachable.
Bernice has plenty of medical issues but that didn't stop her from moving closer to her brother and deal with the freezing weather. She is determined even tho she is shy and won't stand up for herself.
These two together just work, simple as that..
I also have to say I enjoyed the way he dealt with the problem..i was cheering him on, I don't know what that says about me but whatever.
The end tho gutted me.. like why would you do that to me gutted..but I also understand why.
Anyways, loved it.
Let me say, the ones of LLV's I love, I really enjoy. They have good flow, good interactions, lots of steam, and ADULT interactions with a plot that makes sense.
This book did not meet that criteria. I enjoyed Hux and his adult demeanor. I did not like the sheer coincidence that he's been 'stalking' her since he saw her on the news year ago. AND THEN she somehow ends up in his tiny town and he doesn't even make a move UNTIL she reveals she's had a serial killer stalking her. OH yeah, and Apollo the one who is so fantastic and knows everything didn't know this about Creed's sister somehow.
The usual happening of her being taken and at risk and needing to be rescued happened as usual. The rest was pretty formulaic as well.
They all begin to sound alike. Need to switch up authors again I think.
I've been waiting for Bernice's story since her brother's book. Man did I feel for Bernice because having asthma and anemia is no fun. I love this series a lot and I did enjoy this book, but it wasn't my favorite of the bunch. I think it has to do with me personally not connecting with the characters like I did in the previous books. I did like Hux and Bernice together though. This book definitely had sit on the edge of your seat moments for me. I had a gut feeling where this book was headed at times, but I still gasped. Bernice brings out another side in Hux that his siblings usually only see. Hux's mom is a real piece of work and not a good human. I really liked Hux's siblings and how they were with Bernice. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!
With Spite is the eighth book in the Don’t Hate Him series. This is Hux and Bernice’s story. Bernice is the sister of one of his club brothers and he’s been obsessed with her since he say her on TV years ago trying to find any way possible to get her brother out of prison. When she finds out he’s alive she moves to be with him even with her health issues and the cold not good for her. When she shows up in his town he tries to stay away but that only last so long. All bets are off of staying away when he finds out she has a stalker that was a serial killer. With the help of his club brothers and Apollo he will stop at nothing to keep her safe.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series because with each book the series just gets better and better!!
