This one is better. I enjoy the paired antics of the Toa Metru as they walk into various disasters on their quests for the Great Disks. Only one peril was caused by Nidhiki though, and it’s in the very beginning. The Morbuzahk is an appropriately creepy talking weed and the climax of reaching its lair in the great furnace is also creepy (who ever heard of whispering vine buds?). Though how the Great Disks combine to defeat their foe is unexplained, that joins a long list of unexplained macguffins in Bionicle. We get the Matoran Nui appearance! The last combo in the Bionicle story, sadly!

It's extremely well made, The writing is fantastic, the plot is fantastic and it's perfect follow up. It succeeds at setting up the direct to dvd film providing a decent story set between the protagonists adventures.

classic scavenger hunt story. My main question is: who wrote all those clues in the Great Temple? They were awfully specific. I do think its interesting that between this book and the Mata-Nui Online Game. Ahkmou is the designated "bad guy Matoran".

If you intend to read this book, don't read this. It may spoil the ending. Bionicle Trial by Fire is a Great book. Though you kind of need to know the actual lego action figures to get the terms in the sory, Greg Farshtey did a good job in making the second book in the second Bionicle series. The story takes place on the island of Metru nui, though the story is told on the island of Mata nui while the matoaran are preparing to go back to their original home land. So the turaga are telling the to about this place and the dangers to expect. In this book, turaga Vakama gathers the toa nuva a second time and tells the seven toa about a long abandoned island known as Metru nui. The story he is telling the toa, is the story about him and all the other turaga when they were the toa metru. Turaga Vakama tells them the story of the Morbuzahk vines and how they had to visit each and every metru in Metru nui to find the great disks that were the only hope they had for destroying the king morbuzahk root with a traitorous matoaran named Akmou. The reason Akmou is trying to keep the toa metru from getting the six great disks is because a strange, mysterious creature called Nidihki. He's a six legged monster who doesn't really do much but run around and frighten the matoaran who he's previously threatened and told to give him the great disks. Greg Farshtey the book is so well-written so that you almost feel like you're there with the actual toa metru (Except how they never talk or interact with you). I think this book would be a mystery or adventure book for reasons I think you should read to find out. Seriously, read it. It's a good book.

WOW this Plot moves by really fast. I think that when GregF really shines is when he’s allowed to do his own one-off stories that aren’t just adaptations of previously-written comics. I am glad that we don’t waste a bunch of time here, but it does feel almost too easy for the Toa Metru to get the Great Disks. Mind you, the Great Disks and the Morbuzak aren’t the ACTUAL Plot for the 2004 storyline, which makes it better. But again, there are a lot of things that feel as if it’d make more sense to get into NOW, but it can’t because it’s being saved for the movie later that year.

Still, we’re seeing GregF’s dialogue shine a bit more, and seeing how he handles action sequences. We start to see more and more of the staple motifs from his writing here, like solving problems without powers or using elemental powers in unorthodox ways. And the fun ways in which the Toa interact with each other. Always good.

The next book is one of my favorites though.

Another well-written and easy to follow tale by Farshtey, who does a great job fleshing out the environment. The Toa are exploring Metro Nui, learning how to control their new powers and attempting to work together. The portrayal of the Matoran is also more varied, with some showing self-interest and distrust. And the mysterious nature of Turaga Dume and the Vahki is well-done, even if the ending has a rushed feel to it.
