Ten Years Ago - A series of horrible sexually-motivated murders rocked a small town in Washington State. Damien Slayer, one of America's most wanted men, became Suspect Number One and fled the State. But there are still those who feel other forces may have been behind the deaths of the three women.
Today - The killings are about to start again and the truth behind the killer will finally be revealed.
Avril does not believe in Big Foot but she is not going to turn down a well paid job to go to Washington to write about them. She does not believe in ghosts either but that doesn't stop Sarah the waitress from warning her at every turn that the house she is renting is haunted. She does believe in serial killers, bears and erupting volcanoes and that is enough for any single mother to worry about. Avril is about to uncover the truth about a series of murders that took place years ago in this secluded little town on the edge of Olympia National Park. The truth she uncovers will have terrifying implications for herself and the rest of her life.
This horrifying novel is not for the faint of heart.
I found this baby yesterday afternoon. I am a big fan of the Bigfoot legend. I own quite a few collectables; T-shirts and what-nots. The setting of this book is in my home state, another plus. So I walked into this book with high expectations. I am walking away from this book with mixed opinions, but leaning towards a good read.
For a horror - mystery book, it gets high marks. It had me on the edge of my seat and shocked the bejesus out of me!
The story's weak spots are in its presentation.
I do not know where this author is from, but it is clear he is not from Washington State or even from the Pacific Northwest. His characters dialect was all wrong! Admittedly, people in my neck of the woods tend to use a wide range of figure of speeches. Heck that is probably common for everyone in all parts of the world. Yet some of the phrases I had never heard of and that is saying a lot! I kept thinking, 'What is that? Hillbilly bumpkin?!" Don't know how to explain it. It just didn't quite sound right.
Also, the descriptions of my beautiful state were vague and could have been any forested area.
As for the characters, oh my! If were to walk into a diner and find Sheriff Bill, Rex Pike the big game hunter, (old Man) Mr. Wendell, Sarah the waitress and Avril the redhead reporter, I would have turned around and walked out, certain that I was in a twilight zone episode or on candid camera.
That said, the story's strengths are in the sheer suspense. I honestly had no idea how this story would end. The plot took several detours as the author build up the 'series' plot threads. I was thankful for those detours (flashbacks, changes in POVs) as they gave me time to catch my breath. The way the book ends, it is clear that more books will follow. And in all likelihood, I will read them. There are a few warnings I would like to leave on this review. This book contains some gory descriptions and adult themes. Also, there is a real need for another round of editing, missing words, typos and such.
I read this book in just a few hours. I really don't have the time to read like that anymore but this was a book I couldn't put down. I didn't really know the storyline and I thought was just a serial killer theme. There is a serial killer but the catch is that it is not human! I was drawn into this world from page one and each character became as alive to me as if I was actually in their world. The book has everything...strong friendships, family bonds, mysteries, and horror. A creature is roaming the woods searching for a mate and taking revenge on anyone who gets in his way. There are many twists and turns in the story which leave you second guessing yourself and making you read on to find out what happens next. The ending was very surprising to me which made me like this book and author even more. Few books keep me reading on and on, and even fewer surprise me in the end.
I've never read a book quite like this and I'm sure glad I did! It only took me 3 days to read it because I could not put it down! I thought I had it figured out but the direction this book took was way creepier than I had imagined. The ending threw me for a loop also. I was hesitant to read this book because it didn't have a lot of reviews but i read the sample and I was hooked! My recommendation is if u like scary page turners u need to read this!!! U won't wanna go outside at night alone ever again.
This book was full of suspense, terror, and the unimaginable supernatural. I was caught up and couldn't believe that someone may have sent this woman to her on death. She posted everything trying to write a book about big foot. Welcome to her world of pure insanity!
