A devout priest - is there more dangerous prey for a hellhound?

After an illegal gambling hall opens next to his church, Father Nathan refuses to let it slide.

When he storms in to confront the owner, he expects to find a human sinner, not a powerful and distractingly attractive demon.

All he wants is to protect his parish. But in the process, will the demon claim his body and his soul?

Hunter is one bored hellhound. Despite his passion for stalking and torture, he’s stuck doing petty crime.

When a stubborn human challenges him, Hunter’s predatory instincts kick into high gear, and he makes a shocking discovery.

Nathan is his fated mate.

And when the priest is caught up in a millennia-old struggle between good and evil, it forces Hunter to go from predator to protector.

The threat of forbidden magic pushes these two natural enemies together. Will the danger also tear them apart?

Heaven wouldn’t have paired him with a priest. That would be insane. Unless Heaven was fucking with him.

A chaotic hellhound and a sweet priest? Seems like the perfect match.

Hunter would win the man over by being himself. His prodding, poking, torturing self. This could be fun.

Other than the unusual pairing, the rest is pretty standard paranormal romance stuff — fated mates, instalust, action/fighting. Loved the possessiveness, the stalking in hound form.

“If I’m going to break my vows, you better make it worth it.”

What I didn’t love was Nathan’s quick switch from ‘but I’m a priest!’ to ‘sure, I’ll fuck a demon’. He seemed too ‘good’ to surrender to the mate bond that fast. And we also don’t get to see much of them as mates. They mate, they separate, drama happens, they fuck and make up, the end. It needed a bit more to really make this a great romance.
Still, a fun entertaining read. Rageball seems like such an odd character, so I’m curious to see what his book will be like.

Side note — the tail play came in at the last sex scene, which is such a shame. You mean we could’ve been playing with a tail this whole time and it never even comes up until the very end?? Mean.

“Let’s defile this church, priest of Hell.”

A new series and the premise is so good.
Nathan was a priest that didn't want anything to do with Hell. He had to resist Hunter. He tried at first, he did but he couldn't for long. The mate bond was too strong to ignore.
Hunter couldn't believe his mate would be a priest when he himself was a hellhound but that was what the angels wanted. He decided the pursue his mate and it really paid off

What a great story and fantastic world-building, it’s such a shame it was a short story, I would have loved so much more, really looking forward to the rest of this series.

I loved the characters and can’t wait to read more from the fascinating world J.B. Warrick has created. This was an intriguing page-turner that left me eager for the next installment in the series. The way the author handles the "natural enemies" dynamic—putting a man of the church up against a creature of hell—is such a fresh, gritty take on the paranormal genre.

Nathan has had a lonely life, and I really felt for him. For years, his only sanctuary was the church and his religion—only for all of his beliefs to be thrown into utter disarray. Nathan has only ever truly had his mum, until a visit to the church led him to find a few friends and a vocation he wanted to serve. However, the last five years haven’t been easy; not only did he lose his mother, but he is also struggling to work under a mentor who isn't the man Nathan thought he was. In fact, he’s much worse!

On top of those woes, there is an infuriating man running an illegal gambling hall in town and corrupting the parishioners. Nathan finds himself strangely drawn to him, only to discover he isn’t really a man at all!

I loved Hunter—he was such a "what you see is what you get," larger-than-life character! I especially loved his utter shock that he, a hellhound, could have a priest for a mate. The tension between them is just incredible; the way the predator-prey energy plays out between a priest and a demon kept me completely hooked. Of course, his human mate was the only one capable of bruising his heart when Nathan had a very big "wobble" and told Hunter to leave him alone.

Hunter was terrified that if Nathan fled, their mating bond would eventually diminish. For someone who never envisioned having a mate, that thought was devastating. He forced himself to stay away to give Nathan time, which turned out to be a good thing. It allowed Nathan to bring his feelings into perspective, especially after a "spiritual intervention" from a higher power! I really appreciated that this wasn't just about the heat, but about Nathan’s deep internal struggle with his faith and finally finding where he truly belongs.

Unfortunately, this realisation comes a little too late as the Forbidden has set his sights on Nathan!

I’m so glad Nathan now has Hunter and a new outlook for the future with his newfound family. This book perfectly balances high-stakes paranormal danger with a deeply sweet emotional core. If you love fated mates with a dark, forbidden twist, you need to start this series!

A truly entertaining and highly engaging story with two uniqe MC's, a great cast of secondary characters that add a lot of depth, and an intriguing and unique storyline.
While this book focuses on Hunter and Nathan, there is an overarching storyline that will continue in future books and feature new MC's - that part actually started in the prequel "Unholy Inferno" - which has a free Book Funnel link at the back of the book. While this book lets you know exactly what is going on, I think it would be more enjoyable to read the prequel first.
As this is a dark and twisted book, I would advise reading the CW first. Along with the various violent aspects, there is a fair amount of sacrilegious moments in this book that some people could find distasteful or offensive.
Hunter is charming, sneaky, and playful, but never forget he is a dangerous and deadly predator on a mission. Well two actually, one is to stop whoever is using forbidden magic and doing truly horrific things, and the other is to claim his mate. He tries to slowly ease Nathan into a new reality, but his beast and outside forces find ways to push them together - which is for the best as their chemistry is undeniable.
Nathan is well liked and very kind to his parishioners, he is not a meek man, but fulfills his roll as priest the best he can, although he does have some underlying anger issues. As he learns who Hunter truly is and what is going on in Purgatory, he is filled with confusion over who he himself is, battling his will as a priest against his desires as a man, and struggling with his new knowledge.
I absolutely loved the interactions between Hunter and Nathan - some made me laugh and some were just super steamy. Their connection develops quickly as they are mates that are destined to be together - something unheard of for hellhounds - but it feels genuine with how well they compliment one another. Their bond is intense and leads them to love and HEA.
This book has a few interesting and really unexpected things happening, and some intense, heart pumping action. The take on Heaven and Hell is interestingly unique. I also liked that not all the major players for the overarching storyline were introduced. In the prequel, it focused on Ammon and Tristan, but introduced both Hunter and Nathan later in the book. In this book, Eli is the next hellhound introduced and another newcomer is Rageball, who could possibly be his mate. Very excited for the next book to see if I'm right and to find out their backstories.
I would absolutely recommend this book as it has so many unique and interesting aspects.

I received an ARC, this review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

"Profane Devotion" by J.B Warrick is the first book of the "Hellhounds of Purgatory" series. It's an m/m paranormal romance that features religious themes of God, Hell, Demons, Angels, etc.

The story follows Hunter, a hellhound, and Nathan, a catholic priest as they're drawn together by fate. But the existence of hellhounds tests Nathan's faith and understanding of what it means to be an agent of heaven.

Overall: 4/5 hearts. This is one of those books that ends up being more than the sum of its parts. While I didn't find the spice or the plot to be life-changing, they're both good and I ended up enjoying this book quite a bit! Enough that I'm interested in a sequel and exploring the interconnected world that Warrick has created.

Peppers: 3/5 - Just enough spice to balance out the plot without being overwhelming.

Spice: 3/5 - The spice is good. It's made more taboo by some of the locations such as in a church and in public, which I loved.

Plot: 3/5 -
Storyline: The storyline itself was pretty straightforward. It followed the main characters as they learned to accept being mates and also had an evil-doer in the background. There weren't a lot of twists and turns, but honestly, I'm a simple plot lover, so I can't even complain.

Characters: I really wish we had another 50 pages to really get to know the main characters better. They were very interesting, but I felt like we only skimmed the surface of what they had to offer.

I also felt a little off about the fact some of the side characters were obviously introduced in previous works so this book skimmed over them. That's not something I expected to experience in book one of a series.

Writing: At first, the writing felt a little young, almost "YA-ish". But, with that said, as I continued reading, that bothered me less and less.

Page Count: 199
Estimated Time to Read: 4 Hours

Nathan & Hunter

"He'd rather be tortured by a porcupine acupuncturist than spend his life doing stupid, boring s***."

"This was a poor substitute for stalking Father Roy, but he needed a creative outlet, and he wasn't into bullet journaling or decoupage."

I can't recall really having previously read another story that involves a priest or religious figurehead except for in Con Riley's Learning to Love series with Charles and Hugo. It's an interesting plot point to cover because religion is such a strict and defined idea, and it's a very controversial topic for many, so it's interesting to get a perspective on it for this romance even though I know it's fiction anyway. I personally don't have any triggers involving religion unless it has bad connotations but in this case Nathan is a good guy. I appreciate the fact that Nathan didn't want to give up his parish and his people simply because his newer personal beliefs and feelings had shifted. He may not have had the same overall outlook with his religion quite the same as before, but he still believed in his people and his community, which is just as powerful and beautiful.

I love the hellhounds and their specialized variety of mannerisms and characteristics. But I absolutely love the quirky humans that join their ranks because there's always that particular bit that throws their hellhound off and makes them temporary enemies/antagonists, but that pull and that draw between them is always far too strong to resist and so much fun to read.

Profane Devotion was an incredible paranormal read and I am so looking forward to how this series continues. Ammon & Tristan were intense, Hunter & Nathan were quite funny. I can't even imagine the interesting take we're going to get on Eli & his intended. And I'm excited to see who else will join the Strong pack going forward.

I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This was a fast paced read with an interesting concept. Nathan is a priest who wants nothing more than to become the head of his own parish. Hunter is a bored hellhound, stuck doing petty crime instead of serving his true purpose. When the two of them cross paths there is an inexplicable pull between them. A pull that can be viewed as a gift or a curse. When the priest gets himself caught up in the middle of the struggle between hellhounds and those who practice forbidden magic, he and Hunter must decide how they will view this bond between them and what lengths the will go for the other.
I very much enjoyed the underlying plot in this book. I’m hoping it continues in future books. I am already loving the tidbits I’ve gotten about the hellhounds their purpose and how the Christian mythology fits in this world. The authors take on the relationship between beings of heaven and beings of hell for this book was so interesting to read.
I also really enjoyed Hunters character. He was fun to read and his personality was fantastic. I only wish we could have gotten even more backstory or insight into him to allow us as readers to connect better to him. Honestly the same for Nathan. His back and forth between acceptance and rejection so quickly made me want to shake the man but that is what made him such a real character to read. I also would have really loved just a little more time with him, his thoughts, and his emotions to really be drawn further into the characters world.
Overall Profane Devotion was a fun read with an interesting plot that I am hoping to see continued in future books. If you’re looking for a fast paced MM romance with demons this book might be for you.

********** Contains Spoilers**********

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good start to the Hellhounds of Purgatory Series. I enjoyed immersing myself in this world that JB Warrick has created. I was hooked from page one and wanted to see what happens next. This book can be read as standalone but I suggest you read Ammon & Tristan’s story, Unholy Inferno which is available as a freebie download through JB Warrick’s website.

It’s Hunter’s turn to get his happily ever after, who never thought he’d even have a fated mate, let alone that he’s none other than Father Nathan Roy, a Catholic priest. I thought that Hunter & Nathan were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. Hunter definitely loves toying with his mate.

I really would’ve loved for the ending to not be so rushed, as Nathan finally accepted what him and Hunter are to each other and then it basically ended. I’m really looking forward to reading more books from this series as it continues, as well as by JB Warrick in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

******I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR. I would still happily review this book even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

Oh my gosh this was a fun and fairly fast spicy MM read!

I feel like I’ve got a little bit of a theme reoccurring lately and I’m all in on it - this time is a HellHound and a Priest!! Who doesn’t like some religious debauchery and a virgin MMC?!

Firstly I love that the town was called purgatory- how perfect!!

Nathan is a pastor of a Catholic Church in a small town that he loves. He is devoted to his parishioners and to God.

Hunter is a Hound of Hell, he has been assigned to the town of Purgatory to hunt people using Forbidden Magic.

His pack leader recently found his mate, a human - something thought impossible for HellHounds, when an Angel assigns your match its fate and that was fine and well from Hunters point of view until it happens to him!!

This was a fantastic story of perceived rivals to lovers, faith evolving in it’s understand, unexpected patience, some maiming and death… oh and virgin man of the cloth coming completely undone by a beast of a man.

@jbwarrickwrites created such an amazing story that I completely devoured - the characters were complex and loveable in their own ways - Hunter was by far my favourite character!!

Can’t wait to see what comes next - hoping for Eli’s story!!!

3.5 stars.

I want to start by saying that I think this series has so much potential and there were parts that were 5 stars for keeping me hooked! I loved the premise of hellhounds getting mates and I loved the chaos that Hunter seemed to thrive with at the start. He had good chemistry with Nathan and there was plenty of action throughout as well. I did feel a bit like I'd missed a book before this with some of the world building (particularly the secondary characters). It all made sense but there was just the sense that the start of this action had been missed; after looking, I've found there is a prequel story out on the author's website so I will absolutely be going back and reading that next. I also wish we got a bit more of Hunter and Nathan as a couple in the main bulk of the book. Yes, they got their HEA but Nathan just annoyed me a bit by seeming like a hypocrite about his vows vs his actual choices. It seemed like his complaints and flitting back and forth in his actions smothered some of Hunter's personality and the sudden love at the end came from left field. As I said at the start though, the series has a lot going for it and I'm interested to see if it's Eli who gets his story next.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

This is a darkly compelling paranormal romance that mixes danger, desire, and the classic “opposites attract” tension. The storyline centres around a priest unwittingly caught in the sights of a hellhound setting up a dynamic full of forbidden attraction and high stakes.

Father Nathan is immediately sympathetic, torn between his devotion and the undeniable pull he feels toward Hunter. His internal struggle gives the story depth, especially as he tries (and fails) to resist a bond that feels fated. Hunter, by contrast, is both menacing and irresistibly magnetic, a predator forced into the unexpected role of protector once he recognises Nathan as his mate.

The romance hits hard and fast once their bond is revealed, but it’s balanced with genuine tension, danger, and supernatural intrigue. The interplay of power, temptation, and loyalty keeps the story engaging, while the paranormal world of hellhounds, angels, and forbidden magic adds texture without overwhelming the central relationship.

Overall, it’s a gripping start to a new series, delivering sizzling chemistry, high-stakes drama, and a satisfyingly intense fated-mate connection.

"Talking to the man was like slamming your head against a brick wall."

What a great start to a new series, Hellhounds of Purgatory, by J.B. Warrick. This is book 1 in the series but there is a prequel, Unholy Inferno, that's a freebie when you sign up for this author's newsletter. I highly recommend reading that first because it's where it all began, plus I loved it as well!

For the first time ever hellhounds are finding mates. This is a huge surprise for everyone involved.

A priest and a hellhound meet in a bar with an illegal gambling hall in back. Sounds like the opening line of a joke but this isn't a joke and the bar is right across the street from the church, St Stephen's.

They're quite a few Catholic references to things I didn't understand as I'm not a Catholic. I ended up looking up a few things that I didn't know the meaning of. I'm so glad my Kindle has that functionality.

Fated mates, human/hellhound pairing, an evil magic user on the loose, hunting forbidden magic users is a hellhound's job, protecting his parishioners is major part of a priest's job requirement, teaming up to vanquish the foe, brings the heat

Oh this was so good! I’m addicted to hellhound stories and this was even better because it involved a priest.

Nathan and Hunter definitely got off on the wrong foot. The priest couldn’t stand Hunter and what he was doing to his community.

Despite Hunter helping him to get home safe, Hunter just got on Nathan’s nerves. It infuriated him how beautiful and sexy he was. Hunter made him doubt his faith and that irked Nathan.

Hunter wasn’t phased by Nathan’s rejection. He knew the priest desired him despite his denial and it made Hunter want him even more. He loved to make Nathan mad.

The last thing Nathan expected was to be mated to a hellhound. To him they were demons whom he shouldn’t be mixing with given he was a man of God. But Nathan felt the pull of the mating bond. No matter how hard he tried not to; he wanted Hunter.

I loved their bickering and banter. At the end of the day, it was just their foreplay ritual😂 The priest had no chance against the sexy hellhound and ultimately gave in.

I’m so excited for this series! J.B. has a way of hooking us with their stories and I just can’t get enough of them. Can’t wait for Rageball and Eli. That one is gonna be very interesting😁

Profane Devotion is the first book in the Hellhounds of Purgatory series from J.B. Warrick. It delivers exactly what you would expect from a book about a hell hound who ends up with a priest for a fated mate. It is fantastic.
Hell and heaven are not exactly at odds and hell hounds are sent to Earth to stop humans from using magic that destroys souls. While they are far from “good” they are definitely not the evilest thing out in the dark.
Hunter meets Father Nathan when Nathan is drunk at the bar the hell hounds are using as a cover in Purgatory, Massachusetts. He realizes they are fated mates, even though until recently hell hounds never had mates. Hunter now has to convince a priest that he is meant to be with a hell hound but the religion he devoted himself to might not be all he thinks it is.
This is an imaginative and entertaining story. I love the world Warrick created in this story. The dynamic between Hunter and Nathan is supportive but antagonistic, loving and frustrating. I liked watching their relationship develop and Hunter not giving up on Nathan. Hunter has a pack of brothers and I am looking forward to their stories in the series.

Hellhound Hunter Strong is a bit bored so his pack leader, Ammon Strong, puts him in charge of a small gambling den. Unfortunately, Father Nathan Roy finds out and is determined to see it closed. His job is to protect his parish. When the two confront each other, Hunter is surprised to learn that Nathan is his mate. Nathan, of course, wants nothing to do with this oh so tempting demon. Right!? Then again maybe he does.

Nathan was not prepared for Hunter, the hellhound. He knows as a priest that Hunter is not for him but when they are close to each other, Nathan cannot resist. Hunter has a bit of a prankster in him which really annoys Nathan. When Nathan stumbles on trouble, Hunter is there, protective instincts flaring while the two combine talents to fight forbidden magic. Two loveable main characters, both quite different, and an excellent plot designed to captivate and ensnare make this one perfect for those of us who love paranormal MM romance.

I loved the story about Nathan and Hunter. Nathan is a priest so for starters he obviously believes everyone associated with Hell is a bad person and secondly he believes he can't be with a man. Let me tell you te last part was a bitter pill to swallow for me. Nathan always had a interest in men, but because of his faith he couldn't act on it. The only thing that made it slightly better was the fact Nathan didn't dismiss his feelings for Hunter or the other way around. It took him a while to fully accept it, but he got there.
I also had a difficult time with Hunter. I mean I don't believe he has ever heard of CONSENT before. He does sooo many things without Nathan's consent. This was also very difficult for me to understand. I mean the sex stuff might be dubious consent (still a bit farfetched but okay maybe dubious), but Hunter also bit Nathan and bonded with him for life without his consent.

Of course for the story it was necessary and that was (a bit) predictable.

P.S. I received an ARC, but this is my honest opinion. Thank you to GRR for the ARC.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

I knew going into reading this that it was a romance between a priest and a hellhound, but I was surprised by how it was done. We probably all have our share of religious trauma, nevertheless it was refreshing to see Nathan (Father Nathan) being so focused on the well being of his parishioners. And I mean that- their actual well being, not some holier-than-thou behavior to try to guilt people into being different or ashamed.
There was definitely some conflict because of the vows he’d taken which were in opposition to being anyone’s mate, but this felt like the only topic the character had any kind of hang up on. And I can understand someone wanting to honor promises they’ve made, especially ones they believe they have made to the god they believe in.
In terms of external conflict an evil is introduced as something that has persisted for generations. I’m interested to see how that is dealt with in the rest of the series.

This is a new author to me. I was intrigued by the concept of a Priest and Hellhound being fated mates. I really liked both MCs, Nathan a bit of ruler minder vs the chaotic rule bender hellhound Hunter cross paths when F. Nathan imbibes too much and Hunter halls him home. When Hunter gets up close and personal with intoxicated F. Nathan he realizes he’s, his mate. Perfect set up for the push and pull of their relationship. I really liked how there was no judgment or bias about F. Nathan being a priest. I was worried that the book would be preachy about how wrong religion is. F. Nathan has depth, and is complicated. Him be multifaceted helped the story. Hunter is the perfect chaotic-evil character. It is hard to place if he’s going to naughty or straight out evil. The second story is okay. I wish more time was spent on our MCs and world building. This was a good read; it didn’t feel dark to me. More like grumpy/sunshine, spice level 3. Overall, I will check out other books by this author.

I absolutely loved this book and Hunter (hellhound) and Nathan (Father Roy). It’s under 200 pages, fast pace and the writing kept the story moving. While the plot moved quickly, I didn’t find the storyline lacking details which made it easy to follow.

I honestly was not expecting the amount of humor. Hunter was hilarious at times and even Nathan’s inner thoughts at times had me giggling.

The story does pick up right where the prequel, Unholy Inferno left off. While it is not necessarily a must to read Unholy Inferno first, it will help with the overarching plot.

I’m ready for the next book. I need to know what’s up with Eli & Rageball and if the town of Purgatory, MA will ever be safe!

Review for (Hellhounds of Purgatory-1) Profane Devotion by J.B. Warrick

I haven't read that many stories that have a priest who is all for a man or a hellhound. J.B. Warrick gave me a fantastic drop into a story I wouldn't have even thought I would want to read. These things we learn about ourselves, right? Lol. Nathan is the priest (Father), and Hunter is the hellhound. Hunter has grown so bored with his life. He loves stalking and torturing others but has found he has grown bored with that and his life. Hunter walks into his life and changes everything he thought he wanted from it. These two men have their own hangups but learn that the other might just show them who and what they need and want out of life. I couldn't put this story down. I had to see what was going to happen next, so I just had to sit in my room and read till the last page, lol. I want more!!

This book was ABSOLUTELY amazing 👏 My only complaint is that I wish it was longer but fingers crossed that there'll be a 2nd book soon! The entire world this book introduces you too is so incredibly interesting & terrifying at the same time. I love Hunter's "devil may care" attitude (pun intended 😜) & that he just has such a difficult time coming to terms with his Mate Nathan being in the Priesthood. It’s almost as though Heaven & Hell decided to put 2 of their most obnoxiously different individuals into a blender & pushed the high speed button just to see what would happen 😳 I love them for each other personally! Also, the side characters in this book were so entertaining & essential to the overall story. I'm really hoping we get some more books in this same world. I can’t wait to see what's next!!

Spicy forbidden romance. Father Nathan is a catholic priest with a heart for service. He wants nothing more than his own parish of people to care for and help. But his efforts are spurned at every turn by his oafish superior priest. Hunter is a hellhound that loves nothing more than chaos and killing people who use bad magic. And once Hunter sets eyes on Nathan, he's found a new drive - to possess his mate immediately. Nathan finds his draw to Hunter disturbing and unavoidable. He's torn between the vows he made to his god and the rightness he feels around Hunter. This story is a little gory and pretty dark with sacrilegious undertones, so heed the warnings. It's also super hot with that bad boy/naive boy chemistry. It was a really fun read and I'd recommend.

There are some extreme religious references in the read. Take the content/ trigger warnings seriously.

This is the love story of hellhound named Hunter, and morally-grey Catholic priest, Nathan. Hunter is a hellhound that loves nothing more than chaos and killing people and Nathan has a calling for being a priest.

Once Nathan learns who Hunter is and what is going on in Purgatory, he is filled with confusion over who he himself. Their connection develops quickly. They are mates that are destined to be together which is unheard of for hellhounds.

Their bond is intense and leads them to love and HEA. It's also super hot with forbidden spice that has that bad boy/ good boy chemistry. Overall it was a good read for me. 4/5

Profane Devotion, by J.B. Warrick, Hellhounds of Purgatory, Book One, was a quick, fun read. I found the characters interesting, and the universe fascinating. There are some extreme religious references that are off-putting and detract, in my opinion, from the flow of the story. Take the content warnings seriously. This is the love story of hellhound, Hunter, and morally-grey Catholic priest, Nathan. It’s a fast-paced, quick read set in a town named Purgatory, where the reader will find themselves shifting off the beaten path of myth and find a new normal. DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is the first full length book in the Hellhounds of Purgatory. I had read the prologue with Ammon and Tristan's story and knew I needed to read this one too. This one features one of Ammon’s children, Hunter. Nathan is a priest who is drawn to Hunter. There is evil afoot and it’s up to Hunter and his family to find out who the “bad guy” is. But unfortunately Nathan stumbles onto him first. This was sooo freaking good, well written and engaging. Fast paced, definitely recommend!

I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My review is solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

Rather than read the blurb, I saw hellhounds in the title and JB Warrick's name on the cover. I try to avoid books with religious themes. It's simply a comfort thing. I would recommend that readers take the content/ trigger warnings seriously.
Getting past the whole Nathan is a Catholic priest was actually not hard to do. Fated mates balances that out. I guess. More importantly, his steadiness balances Hunter's love of chaos... and killing people. The pacing is fast, the fated mates bond strong, their connection intense.
Overall, the plotline is interesting. Looking forward to where we're gonna go next.
I received an advanced copy of this e book from GRR and this is my review.

4.5 stars rounded up

Profane Devotion is the first book in the Hellhounds of Purgatory series.

It's a quick and enjoyable read. I really loved the world-building.

Nathan is a parish priest in the town of Purgatory, a seemingly quiet town that is actually inhabited by creatures from hell. Hunter Strong ,a hellhound assigned to the town(I love the name) works at a bar that hosts a gambling den, and that’s where the priest goes to confront him. To his astonishment, he discovers that the priest is his fated mate.

Looking forward to reading the next one

Fated mates, priest and hellhound

Father Nathan walks into a bar across the street from his church determined to shut the sin den down.
A hellhound named Hunter is bored but is immediately interested.
What neither of them know is that they're fated mates and evil magic is soon going to be a big problem for them.
They immediately get off on the wrong foot because Nathan is so angry that he's attracted to Hunter.
I loved their snarky banter and watching them get to know one another better.
