Roses are red, violets are blue, this series will never be finished too.

Cain has fallen off my radar in the last year or so, since I read Book 5 in this series and it was utterly crap, but then I saw that Book 6 was going to be out THIS MONTH. Having any sort of concrete information from her is novel. But...

Imagine my total lack of surprise to hear that this deadline has been cancelled.

For those who aren't in her Facebook group, she apparently plans instead to re-release the previous book in a new edition. On the one hand, the previous book was certainly awful. On the other hand, all this does is ensure that we have yet another series she'll likely never finish. Addison Cain's entire backlist at this point is the place where series go to die.

Also, I think it's rather disingenuous that nobody from her team contacted a Goodreads librarian to make sure this entry was updated. Until I edited it literally two minutes ago, the Goodreads blurb still said the book had been released last week, and 'Preorder this highly-anticipated book now!' (Yeah, it doesn't say that anymore).

This is the type of author you don't invest in. Although Alpha Claim is my favorite series the author takes away from it with her antics. It would have been nice to leave a simple update on her page about pushing back the released date. I had to join a couple of FB groups to get pointed in the right direction of any kind of news. I respect that authors have lives and personal things that might keep them away from pen and paper. The bs that she put out was like a novel and felt like a slap in the face to her readers. Sometimes less is more just say hey I'm taking a personal hiatus to reset my creative thinking.

Wow. I shouldn’t be shocked at how much I loved that, but I am. I was worried with the amount of time between books that readers have had to wait that this book wouldn’t have the same spark or feel the same as the previous books, and I am glad to report that was not the case for me. I lovvvvved the drama between Jules, Brenya and Jacques. And how am I feeling sorry for Jacques?! Addison sure knows how to make me feel for a real villain. I loved the Shepherd and Claire scenes too. It was great to be back with these Alpha’s Claim characters. It was just as dark, twisted, and delicious as I’d hoped it would be.

I was both relieved to finally get this book after years of waiting and rereading the previous books in the series ,and slightly disappointed that it was so brief and nearly without plot gains.

The ending was yet another cliffhanger, and I find myself feeling finished with this world at this point.
I know that authors are human too,and that their lives and unexpected circumstances can make or break their writing process, but the readers go to great expense with time and money to support them as well.
I wish she’d wrapped up the series with this book, but a good 85 pages of the 215 were sexual mind games.
Brenya’s character never gains nuance or understanding and at this stage and after three books dedicated to her,it’s frustrating to be inside of her head. Honestly,it feels as if nothing is going on inside of her mind. Pretty robotic to say the least.
Alas, I feel as if I’m complaining here and that’s not productive but suffice to say I’m a bit disappointed.

I’m trying to appreciate this installment for what it was, but I’m not going to worry about following and salivating over her new releases anymore.

Well, that’s it then. Much Ado About Nothing. This series started off with such a bang and now never appears to end with even a whimper. It’s awful. All of the characters are terrible. The storyline is a hot mess - there’s no storyline, who am I kidding…? It’s so short, very little except weirdness happens.

I don’t want to feel like this - I wanted a great steamy dark story line and got, not that. Maybe it’s because I hate love triangles? I do hate them, but this is traumatically bad storytelling. this book is bad - boring. Nothing happens in it but weird mind games and sexual fisting. It’s a collection of personal vignettes. It got tiresome.

I actually liked Jacques being the villain and rooted for his redemption. Now he’s so pathetic. He is literally being broken apart - the author is cutting off pieces of him! Jules was fun and darkly possessive and I liked him in prior books but now he gives Hannibal Lector vibes. Brenya is a walking zombie doll. She has no personality other than downtrodden. What a waste - the author’s and mine. I can’t believe I spent money on this. I was an avid fan but I think this may be the death knell for me.

Find something else to do - like vacuuming. It’ll be more enjoyable than reading this book.

I litterally never rate and write a review on a book that isn't out let a lone read; however, because of all the spiteful ratings and reviews for this book that none of these people have read, I am going to give a positive rating and provide my own little rant to justify it.

I understand that this auther is inconsistant, unresponsive, and can seem rudely dismissive in this era of extreme accessibility. It is frustrating when you have a somewhat consistant book releases from a series that is great (and in my opinion revelutionary to the niche genre of omegaverse and perhaps erotica/romance all together) and then all of a sudden you are left at on a cliff hanger for years with no explanation and no appreciation for your support. With that said, I don't think getting petty revenge by berating the author every possible way all the time is fair, especially on review for a book that may not even exist yet.

We must remember that first and formost authors are real people not machines or businesses meant to cater and serve us, they are creatives. We should be giving authors the same patience and understanding that we give other creatives like musical artists and painters. When they take years to produce and share their art we typically don't complain, well at least for painters not musicians, but the point is this is someones creative outlet and we should remember to be greatful that they are willing and have the courage to share it. Even though a book or series completion was promised to us we arent trully entitled to having it.
We also need to remember that people go through shit. So much has happened in the last 3 years, we have no idea what is going on in this persons life and how they are dealing with it. So, berating and discouraging a person who has done nothing to you, but not release a promised book is ridiculous.
Lastly, some reviewers and commentors are so demanding and rude, she might not be releasing any work because of that.
Don't be vengefully discouraging. That's all.

Respectfully, what the fuck is this?

Brenya had a total personality transplant. Jules is a vagina surgeon now? When they’re not having repetitive marathon sex, the characters just talk in circles without accomplishing anything. Nothing changes, nothing gets resolved. Seriously, what was the point of this? It’s a $6 “update.”

And it ends on YET ANOTHER cliffhanger. One that’s completely nonsensical and so abrupt that you could blink and miss it. I can’t believe I waited almost 5 years for this. I don’t even care what happens next in this stupid story.

I used to love Addison Cain, but her work is soulless now. This series is never going to have an ending. It’s just a cash grab at this point.

Is it just me or did nothing really happen in this book? Not to mention the many grammatical and spelling errors…

Considering how long it took for this to come out, I was expecting something a little more polished. This felt rushed and ill thought out.

Read it! I’m shattered!

Lots of humping, kissing and alternative knotting. And explanations, like what happened to first wife Rebekka. And why the name Svana keeps plopping up around Claire. It ends on a cliffhanger. Is that bad? Ach no, that’s life.

Ps Lose the one stars, read the book.

PPS Jules is evil!

Ppps but I like him!!

It was good. I like Jules and I like Brenya. But I feel like this was not worth my $6. The first sex scene took almost 30% of the book. Nothing happened to move the plot along. And it was short as hell.

So people, we have news!

My latest newsletter tells me the following:

"Buckle up, babycakes, because Devoured is coming… all over your face… in December, God willing. Maybe January if my kitchen floods again or some other random challenge arises. I say this knocking on wood, because it’s been a very weird year. And not just for me. It seems like all of us are having really weird years.

Right now I’m doing my final-ish read through, massaging parts, taking stuff out, adding stuff in, doing the endless dance of ‘is this perfect?’. Insider secret, no author ever feels like it’s perfect, and this fact drives us slowly insane.

And here is also where I get to announce the title of the next book in the Alpha’s Claim series: Shattered. "

So, fingers crossed everyone!

I have waited so very long for this book but it does not mesh with any of the previous books. Since we never knew anything about Jules other than "his Rebecca", I can accept his back story as a brilliant surgeon but to tell me that Rebecca was only marginally better than Svana, nope not buying it and then to believe that Jules would have followed her because of Shepherd again, nonsensical. I'm sorry I reread the series before starting this because if stuff wasn't fresh I wouldn't be feeling so let down by this book.

While I'm at it, who is Georges, it was George.

Jules would not have been crying out for Rebecca on that shuttle if she was what this installment makes her out to be.

Shepherd would have just ignored the uprising against Jules?

All those Alphas would have just run with any rebellion KNOWING the Red Consumption was at his fingertips?

So, I must just walk away. I find this one to be the most disappointing, contradictory entry and will need to forget this book happened.

The only positive I see, is that I believe Jules began to feel something when Brenya stood up for Annette at the state dinner and every subsequent interaction made him actually have a heartbeat for her.

I will not rate this book because I am not able to be fair or honest.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I've been so invested in this story for so long that I purchased this book not realizing it would end on a cliffhanger and I'd have to wait for yet another book. Idk why I thought this was going to be the last book in the series. So naturally I'm disappointed by that aspect.
As for the book itself. I like it... but it's 80% sex and 20% plot, okay maybe 70/30. I mean I get the reasons bc of storyline but idk I was hoping for more of something. I hope the next is the last and ties up lose ends. I can't keep supporting years long waits.

Addison Cain is a master storyteller! I usually pick apart plots as I’m reading, but I just CAN’T with her books and that’s why I absolutely adore her writing!

Devoured was no different! I never knew what was coming next. Some parts had my mouth open in shock, some parts had me kicking my feet and giggling, and at many points I had to open the window to cool off!

Read this book! Read this series!!!! And then re read it and connect even more dots. The plots lines and twist will never disappoint no matter how many rereads you do!

As per usual, Addison Cain gave the best of the best. This book is deliciously filthy with changes in power dynamic that you just don’t find it in any other omegaverse, at least not as well written. It was impossible not to read this book as fast as possible, I was unable to put it down. Just when I think the story can’t get any better IT DOES. I’m excited for the next installment and fully aware I have to practice patience and wait for those masterpieces she writes.

Review incoming... And am afraid it's going to be scathing, because I'm actually upset, but I'm going to wait a few days and calm down first... 😡

But to give you an inkling of how I feel, my reaction to the end of the book was in the line of:
" Are you taking the piss?? 🙄"

And seeing some of the other reviews here that actually didn't slaughter this book makes me wonder if I somehow have an incomplete copy... 🫠(I don't, I checked...)

I will say, for me, it was worth the wait. The pacing was solid, nothing felt rushed or missing. It was nice seeing more of Jules and Brenya and seeing Claire pushing forward and her relationship with Shepherd. This was definitely a labor of love from Ms. Cain and I’m glad she took her time with it. But dang it, not another cliffhanger! 😭

Devoured is brutal in the way only Addison Cain can be. This long-anticipated sixth installment doesn’t ease readers back into the Omegaverse, it drops us straight into psychological warfare, unstable bonds, and power plays that never stop escalating. The intensity is relentless, and that’s exactly what Cain’s readers show up for.

The close third-person narration is claustrophobic in the best way. Brenya and Jules are both deeply unreliable, and Cain leans into that discomfort. Quiet conversations feel more dangerous than open violence. Control is always shifting, never secure. Jules remains one of the most compelling contradictions in the series: biologically a Beta, dominant enough to destabilize Alphas simply by existing. The three-way pair bond between Jules, Brenya, and Jacques is pure Cain irony, created as a tool of control, it becomes a prison no one can escape. Jacques lives, imprisoned, because neither enemy can destroy the other.

Brenya is the emotional core of the book, though not in a way that offers comfort. Her recovery is ongoing, heavy, and deliberately unsettling. She processes the world through systems and mechanics rather than social intuition, which creates real friction when she’s forced into responsibility for others. Brenya doesn’t see people first, she sees structures. That limitation makes her arc sharper, not weaker, especially in contrast with Lucia.

And yet, through all the trauma, Jules brings real, deliberate gentleness. He shows Brenya what agency feels like - over her body, her choices, and her power - something she’s never been taught before. Those quiet, empowering moments make the tension of the power plays hit even harder. The juxtaposition of his tenderness with the danger surrounding them is devastating and beautiful, and it makes their dynamic unforgettable.

As for Lucia, she is manipulative, strategic, and absolutely a power player. Her loyalty lies with the Omegas trapped inside Dome Bernard’s chaos, and she is willing to bend anyone -Alphas, Jules included - to protect them. Where Brenya hesitates, Lucia moves. Their dynamic crackles with tension.

Dome Bernard itself feels like a live wire. Feral Alphas circle power, Central is locked down, and every chapter threatens collapse. Shepherd looms over it all, still pulling marionette strings from Dome Greth. His brief chapters with Clair are pure icing, quiet, loaded, and deeply unsettling reminders that Shepherd is shaping events from afar. George(s) and Marianne appear sparingly but deliberately, their limited page time only heightening their importance. Cain knows exactly when to hold back.

What makes Devoured so effective is that it feels like a conclusion … until it isn’t. Just when you think Cain is closing doors, she opens darker, more dangerous ones. She makes her readers work for every scrap of hope, chapter by chapter, book by book, and that’s why this series is so addictive.

This installment didn’t just meet expectations, it overwhelmed them. Devoured is intense, uncomfortable, and utterly consuming.

I am feral for Shattered.

I want to first preface that I do genuinely like this series. I know that Addison Cain is a controversial author, especially in the omegaverse world but I do think she's a talented writer.

That is to say- this LONG AWAITED 6th book in the Alpha Claim series was not good. In her foreword, Addison said that she struggled writing this book and you can tell. I understand that she was under a lot of pressure to write/ publish this book, but I would have rather she take her time instead of releasing this book in this state.

It's her shortest book (236 pages), and the first 4(?) chapters was one sex scene. I've read that this sex scene was 30% of the book, and that's genuinely crazy that a large chunk of the book was just one sex scene. Then the rest of the book takes place over a few days. The plot is minuscule and rushed, which further shows that she rushed this book.

SPOILERS

I'm annoyed with the cliffhanger. I hate that Jacques does get out and seemingly takes power again. I'm not understanding how he was able to take back his power. MaryAnn (and Georges) literally go to Dome Bernard in order to keep that from happening, why didn't MaryAnn send a message to Jules to warn him that the Central alphas were seriously conspiring to free Jacques and secure him back in power. Where the fuck are they at in the dome, why hadn't Shepherd sent more support/ followers to Dome Bernard to protect Jules' rule? I have so many questions, and zero answers.

Then there's Claire and Shephard's very small storyline. I appreciate that Claire does have enough estrous autonomy, but other than that- it's the same shit over and over. I feel like she takes one step forward, and then 3 steps back. Her being Queen Svana, I'm fine with that but if she's the Queen don't Queens have a few obligations to fulfill? Proceeding over parliament assembly, meeting the citizens, hosting state dinners (or the Dome equivalent). I understand that Shepherd is doing all of that, but I just think it's sloppy writing. The Queen is the figurehead, and yet she's nowhere to be seen? Ok.

I really was looking forward to this book, and while I was happy to be back in that world I was disappointed by the end. I hope the next installment, Shattered, is being written but actual effort is being put into it.

Devoured

Wow, this book was so worth the wait. I have always loved Jules, but to know the real him and what he is capable of… I did not seen that coming at all. Oh, no wonder he is Shepherd’s best friend.

Brenya is still the naïve, brilliant omega that I almost love as much as Claire. I hope to see her make bigger moves in the next book. As far as Jacques goes and what he went through OMG…. What will he do next and has he learned anything from his captivity. That remains to be seen.

There is no doubt in my mind that you must read the whole entire series to truly understand what each character has gone through and how far they have come! You will NOT be disappointed!

I definitely can’t wait for my next fix and to see how this story unravels. Boy what a ride! Oh, and it’s glad to see Marianne back into the fold.

This book does end in one heck of a cliffhanger and with like all of Addison Cane‘s books they end way too soon!

Mixed feelings!! There’s some brutality to the violence that I could’ve gone without but overall I’m extremely invested in Breyna and her evolution. Shes a fascinating character. I would like to see her connect with Maryjane and I’m a little disappointed in Lucia tbh, though I understand her motivations.

It was also a little hard to see Claire still struggling but I’m hoping we’re building to the domes being led by them as queens as all the female characters self actualize into their strong but empathetic selves—maybe with a throw back to the Tholos good guys. These men are war time generals & once we get to peace time, the female should rule.

Obviously this genre is extremely niche so read with caution but I’m grateful for the next installment & hopeful that Shattered comes soon!
