These two buffoons not seeing what was always right in front of them 💚
Bodie and Bryce just needed someone else to mention that hey you’re in love, then they were like yeah omg I think we are?! 🤣 it was a fun time, however these two needed to learn to communicate.
One thing I really struggle with in a friends to lovers, ESPECIALLY childhood friends, is when they just won’t talk. Bryce was keeping a lot of his thoughts and feelings, and even parts of his childhood, to himself from his best friend. They’ve been friends nearly 20 years, romantic feelings are developing, but you feel like you can’t talk to him? It never makes sense to me. And then Bodie is believing other people’s comments and actions instead of asking or trusting his best friend.
I just wish we could have gotten a little more depth regarding their transition to romantic partners, and I think I would have enjoyed this more. I did love all the jealousy and possessive moments 😅 always a favorite of mine 🙈
Nothing lasts too long or gets dragged out since this is a pretty quick read though. However, pacing was a bit rushed at times, and it could be a bit jumpy.
Overall, I enjoyed these guys though, and I would love to see more of them. I’m intrigued about where things could possibly be going with some of the side characters like Emmett or Kasey too.

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was actually better than I thought it was going to be since I found it on tik tok. I’m always nervous about friends to lovers but I actually liked how this was done. Neither of the guys had been pining over each other for years or anything so that made it better. Both of the characters were great guys.
We have Bodie the hockey player who is in a relationship at the beginning of the book. But she breaks up with him because she swears he’s in love with his bff Bryce. Which I mean it’s super obvious to everyone but these guys. I liked that the breakup happened very early on like the first or second chapter and Bodie wasn’t even that heartbroken by it he was more concerned about if he was really in love with Bryce.
Bryce is an out bartender who never looked at his friend that way until now. He’s worried about messing up their friendship but it’s not too long before these two realize they work as more than friends. It was really fast paced which I actually liked instead of it being a slow burn.
There was a “secret” that Bryce has been keeping for nearly the whole book but once we find out what it was it was super anticlimactic. I didn’t feel like it added much to the book in my honest opinion aside from it being the reason why he couldn’t sleep. But I didn’t feel like it needed to be this big secret. His bff of 18 years should have been someone he told so I don’t get that.
There’s some unwanted OM drama with this customer who won’t stop hitting on Bryce and he kisses him without his permission. There’s also some jealousy with other guys but neither of the MCs welcomed anything from anyone else.
I was hoping we were going to get Emmet and Kasey next. We were given so many crumbs about them in this book but I guess Caleb is next even though he was only mentioned a few times. Super bummed about that and also bummed that it will be a MMM because I’ll have to skip it. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for Kasey’s book though.
No cheating or wanted OM drama. Small third act fight but not break up, they didn’t speak for a week. Past parental death. HEA (married)
Bodie and Bryce were so sweet together. Longtime friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and I absolutely devoured this book in a single sitting.
I’ll admit I was relieved when Bodie’s girlfriend broke up with him—she seemed awful from the start, and Bodie was far too much of a sweet marshmallow for someone like her. I loved the way Bryce took care of him after the break up and when he was sick. I especially loved the small, thoughtful moments, like bringing flowers and chocolate on their date after Bodie had casually mentioned liking them earlier.
Their relationship felt natural and effortless, and the chemistry between them was wonderful. Watching their friendship evolve into something deeper was such a joy to read. I had so much fun with their story and enjoyed every minute of it.
My only complaint is that it felt too short—I would have happily read so much more about them!
“You were always mine. We were meant to find each other.”

Twenty seconds to love him by Haleigh Falcon is my first book that I read from this author and I was pleasantly surprised! This book was a cute besties to lovers codependent read that I ate up!! It’s definitely worth adding to your TBRs! The swooning and the love these two have for each other is beautiful and being able to see how they navigate their new relationship from just friends to lövërs had some ups and downs but I loved seeing how they handled those challenges and came out the other side better individually and as a couple!! The spice was spicy and it also had a bit of fun/funny moments too which I loved since their relationship still did have the years of friendship behind it too! Overall the book was great and well written!!
Twenty Seconds to Love Him – Haleigh Falcon Seeing two people who have spent years suppressing something by telling themselves “we’re just friends” realize that it was actually love from the very beginning is always impactful. But it’s also a topic that needs to be handled well; maintaining the balance is important. At this point, Bodie’s effort to understand himself and his character development was really beautiful. As they start sharing the same house and eventually the same bed, that thin line slowly begins to disappear. And one of my favorite parts of the story was definitely Bryce’s possessive attitude while still respecting Bodie’s awakening. The balance between that possessive energy and his patient approach was portrayed really well. A sweet but intense attraction, years of built-up tension, and that strong “it was always you” feeling… If you enjoy friends-to-lovers MM romance, this is definitely a book you should have on your radar.
This was such a cute and enjoyable read. Bryce and Bodie were just the sweetest. I loved how they didn’t even realize they were in love in a romantic way because, to them, there was never any other way to be. Watching them go from friends to lovers once they realized there was something more between them was so satisfying and heartwarming.
I’m always a sucker for best friends to lovers and these 2 were definitely made for each other. Yes they could be complete bone heads but they always know what to do to make each other feel better. I love these two so much and I’m so glad they got their HEA. Bodie & Bryce definitely deserved all the happiness.
This book has best friends to lovers, roommates, hockey and all the sweetness one book can hold. I loved all their moments and I couldn’t put it down. They were absolutely perfect for each other and I definitely recommend this book!
I was really intrigued by Twenty Seconds to Love Him by Haleigh Falcon, but unfortunately this one just didn’t work for me.
I tried to push through the first 30%, hoping I would connect with the story or the characters, but I found myself struggling to stay engaged. The pacing felt slow for my taste, and I never really felt invested in what was happening.
Sadly this ended up being a DNF for me, but it might still work for readers who enjoy a slower start or a different storytelling style.
Thank you The Author Agency & Haleigh Falcon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Haleigh Falcon for this arc in exchange for an honest review
Bodie’s girlfriend Amber hates Bryce because she thinks they’re in love with each other. When Amber breaks up with Bodie he starts to think about how he’s always put Bryce before everyone especially Amber. What do you do when you realize you’ve always been in love with your best friend?
I feel bad at how broken Bodie was at first when Amber broke up with him. Bryce helping him through that was amazing. Bodie going through all the times he chose Bryce over Amber was painful for him. Poor Bodie really had no idea how much he loves Bryce. The admission Bodie gave to Bryce was eye opening for them both. The 20 second hug is the best thing ever. It’s sweet how fast Bryce jumped into the caretaker roll when he noticed Bodie was sick. I love how Bryce trusts Bodie so much that he can only sleep well when they’re sleeping together. The ending was nice.
When Bodie's dumped by his girlfriend and the reason she gives him is she thinks he's in love with his best friend, Bryce, it makes him see their friendship in a whole new light. Is he really in love with Bryce? And if he is, does Bryce feel the same way? Maybe their friendship can withstand a new direction.
Bryce may have had more than friendly feelings for his oblivious best friend, but acting on them? That's a whole different thing. The last thing he wants to do is risk hurting their friendship. Giving into the new chemistry between them could break them and he's not sure he wants to chance it. But how can he resist Bodie's new behavior? Resist how sweet he is, how insanely hot he is?
Bodie and Bryce are the sweetest. Reading as they fell in love, or I guess, realized they were in love, made me smile. Bodie is adorable as he navigates his new feelings, his realizations, and does all the little things for Bryce, and the big things, too. Bryce had some trauma from his past that he didn't want to share, but Bodie was there for him and it made me tear up even as I cheered them on. I really like this best friends to more story, their twenty second hugs still make me happy thinking about them even though I finished reading days ago.

🏒You've always been mine, you know. I know. It just took me a while to figure it out🍸
"Amber broke up with me. She said she couldn't handle me being more in love with you than I am with her."
"I smile for real this time as he strides toward me to give the twenty seconds I crave. He wraps around me, my shoulders drop, and just like that, everything feels right when I'm in his arms."
"I'm hoping a hug will do the same for him. When I feel his chest expand and I hear a sigh as he exhales, I think it did the trick. From that moment on, I knew I had to be his anchor sometimes. A few weeks later, he discovered why it was helping and put the twenty-second rule in place."
"I've known this man for more than half my life, and he's never been more beautiful than in this moment. He's full of light in the darkness of this room."
"I've never slept better in my life than when you're lying next to me."
"You've always been mine, you know." "I know. It just took me a while to figure it out."
"Bodie has always been my safe haven. He's saved me from myself in so many ways, and now he's making me fall head over heels in love with him."
"The Emerald City reminds me of your eyes. You're like Oz, and your eyes are the capital. You're my Oz." "You're my everything."
"And no one will ever love you as much as I do. So, I'll show you for the rest of my life what you do to me, because words aren't enough."
'Looking back, I now know the moment I fell in love with him... "Need a hug?" "I'll never say no." I smile for real this time as he strides toward me to give the twenty seconds I crave. He wraps around me, my shoulders drop, and just like that, everything feels right when I'm in his arms.'
"No, Bodie. You were always mine. We were meant to find each other. In this life, and the next."
Every book I have read by this author has been amazing. I was curious how this new series would be since I read the Charlotte Socials. This story was fantastic and I can't wait for more books in this universe the author has been creating. I love that this is a best friends to lovers story with a bi awakening. The spice in this was delicious and spicy 🔥🔥🔥. I really enjoy this author's writing style and flow. I also love the small dose of hurt/comfort in this. I'm excited to see more stories from the side characters. Especially Davidson and Kasey 🧐. I loved seeing the cameos from some of the Charlotte Socials as well!
This story follows Bodie and Bryce. These two have been best friends for eighteen years and grew up together. They're codependent and extremely close. Bodie is straight and has a gf, but not for long. She dumps him as she thinks Bodie is in love with Bryce. This makes Bodie think that maybe something has always been there. These two start to act on their sexual tension and try to be more. Bryce is hesitant as he doesn't want to ruin their friendship. Things get heated and feelings become complicated. Deciding they want to try this out, a few obstacles stand in their way. Bryce has been keeping certain things in his past from everyone. Bodie can see this and this puts distance between them. They both act on jealousy, which also puts a strain on them. Can Bryce open up and trust Bodie? What will Bryce do when Bodie ends up leaving for his dreams? Can these two save what they just started?
I loved how protective these two were of one another. They both got jealous easily. They were extremely codependent, but that's because of how close they were as best friends. Bodie was a golden retriever with so much good energy. He always looked on the bright side of things and didn't stress much. Bryce was more chill and very patient and understanding. He knew how to calm Bodie down when he needed it. My heart hurt so much for Bryce with what he had to endure as a kid. It was so sad that he had carried this guilt and grief alone for so long. I love how easy their relationship was as friends and then lovers. Their banter and chemistry were off the charts. The steamy scenes were spicing hard 🥵🔥🔥🔥. Especially when Bodie was exploring Bryce when he was asleep 😉. I love how easily Bodie accepted his new sexuality. These two had some adorable and swoony moments. Especially the Wizard of Oz moment 🥹🥹. My favorite thing in this story was the hugs Bryce gave Bodie 😍. I love how the title of this story fit into that. I understand why Bryce didn't want to tell Bodie, but come on, Bryce, you know you love him and trust him. Their epilogue was adorable and I loved seeing everyone support them. This was such a great book and I can't wait to see what this author does next! 🏒🍸🎂🍿🍫🌹💜💚
I adore stories where best friends are obliviously in love and everyone else sees it but them, and this one certainly fits the bill.
After Bodie’s long-term girlfriend breaks up with him, claiming he’s in love with Bryce, these two best friends of eighteen years start to see each other in a new light.
These two were sweet together. I enjoyed their back and forths, and when things aren’t complicated, their easiness from being friends for such a long time. But, of course, it’s not a smooth ride as they navigate their way into new waters with their friendship evolving into more with all the growing – and sometimes overwhelming – feelings that comes with it, and the secrets that Bryce has been hiding all his life.
Bodie, well, he’s incredibly endearing. I loved his thoughtfulness and those cheeky, childlike moments of his. The image of him running around in his underwear made me laugh big! I’d so love to see his zoomies in real life! The big goalie would be difficult not to like – unless your name’s Drew (IYKYK) – and I loved that he tends to see the bright side of things, besides when his anxiety causes him to overthink or he’s worrying about Bryce.
Bryce, my gosh, how can you not feel for him? Weighed down by a devastating event from his past, and subsequent betrayal from someone close to him, he’s scared to share the truth with the person he loves most. Will the love of his best friend help? I did appreciate Bryce’s SOH more than I probably should.
And apologies, Bodie and Bryce: you may have struggled a little with it, but I did love the jealous and possessive sides of you both! And of course I adored those hugs…
Now I’m hoping for a possible book for Kasey and Davidson. And the sound of Caleb’s story definitely caught my attention too. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for sign of these!
On a side note, I really liked the dedication for this book too.

Some of my favourite quotes
“Am I allowed to walk around here half-naked again, or do I need to wear a snowsuit all day every day?”
If guardian angels existed on earth, Bryce would be mine—always taking care of me in any situation.
“Okay, what kind of best friend are you if you’ve never told me that’s the way sex feels with a guy?” “The kind of best friend who waited until you were ready to experience it for yourself.”
“You’re really fucking hot when you go all ‘he’s mine’ on them.” “Good. Get used to it.”
“You’ve always been mine, you know.” “I know. It just took me a while to figure it out.”
“You’re like Oz, and your eyes are the capital. You’re my Oz.”
“Don’t you go flirting with every cute guy you see now. You don’t want to bail me out of jail, do you?” “Nah. I’d leave you in there a little while and let you sweat it out.” “You wouldn’t dare,”
We say it together and laugh, making me realize how much I love being in love with my best friend. Some people never get to feel this kind of love—I’m one of the lucky ones.
“No one has ever loved me like you do. And no one will ever love you as much as I do. So, I’ll show you for the rest of my life what you do to me, because words aren’t enough.”
This man has been my best friend for most of my life and has now become my world—maybe he has been all along, and I just didn’t know it yet.
“I’m really yours now.” “No, Bodie. You were always mine. We were meant to find each other. In this life, and the next.”
From the very first page, Bodie and Bryce completely stole my heart. Their bond is the kind that only comes from years of growing up side by side—best friends since childhood, inseparable, and practically a two-for-one deal in everyone’s life. So when Bodie’s girlfriend ends their relationship because she’s convinced he’s actually in love with Bryce, it forces Bodie to look at his feelings in a way he never has before. What starts as confusion quickly turns into a realization that maybe what they have has never been just friendship.
The dynamic between them is unbelievably tender. Bryce has quietly carried feelings for Bodie for years, but acting on them is terrifying. Their friendship means everything to him, and the idea of risking it for something more makes him hesitate—even if his heart is screaming that Bodie has always been the one. On top of that, Bryce carries some deeply personal fears and anxieties he’s never shared, worried that opening up might drive away the people he loves most.
And then there’s Bodie, who is just the sweetest soul. Once the possibility of loving Bryce in a different way clicks for him, he doesn’t shy away from it. His natural “go with the flow” personality makes him willing to explore what this new realization means. But it’s not without complications. Bodie’s hockey career and his potential future in the NHL make things more complicated, especially when the idea of coming out to his team could have real consequences if their relationship doesn’t work out.
Watching these two navigate the shift from lifelong friends to something deeper was honestly heart-melting. The small moments between them were my favorite—those quiet, intimate interactions that show just how much they already mean to each other. Bodie’s quirks, warmth, and devotion made him impossible not to love, while Bryce’s journey through some painful experiences added depth and emotion to the story. Seeing him work through those struggles with Bodie by his side was incredibly touching.
Despite a few emotional bumps, the overall tone of the story feels warm, hopeful, and uplifting. It’s the kind of romance that gives you butterflies and leaves you smiling while you read. The found-family elements and appearances from Haleigh’s previous characters added another layer of charm that made the world feel even more special.
Bodie and Bryce truly feel like two people who were always meant to find their way to each other. Their story is sweet, heartfelt, a little spicy, and full of genuine love. If you enjoy best-friends-to-lovers romances with lovable characters and a relationship that feels both natural and deeply emotional, this one is absolutely worth picking up. I’m already excited to see where the rest of the series goes next.
Thanks so much Haleigh Falcon and The Author Agency for the book. I was gifted this book as an advance review copy (ARC) for free, and I am leaving this review completely voluntarily.
I went into Twenty Seconds to Love Him by Haleigh Falcon not knowing exactly what to expect, and it ended up being such a solid read for me. This was my first book by this author, and it will not be my last. The story follows two best friends whose relationship begins to shift after one of them is forced to confront feelings he never expected. As emotions start to surface, they have to decide whether risking their friendship is worth the possibility of something more.
This book features a good friends to lovers story. There is something so emotionally loaded about these characters who have already built a deep, real connection. The stakes are higher because they are not just stepping into something new. They are risking something that already means everything to them. I loved watching those small, ordinary moments slowly morph to carry more weight once feelings crept in.
I am such a sucker for a good bi-awakening arc. This one was great. It did not feel rushed or dramatic. It started from an outside comment and grew gradually from there, which made it feel completely believable. Watching Bodie move from denial to curiosity to full realization was one of my favorite parts of the whole book. The tension around "what if we ruin this" was real and not overdone. It read more like a genuine fear both characters were quietly carrying than manufactured drama. Bryce's hesitation and emotional walls were frustrating at moments, but I always understood where he was coming from.
What really stood out to me was the softness of this book. Not softness in a way that deflates the tension, but in how much these two care about each other. The quiet moments, the comfort, the tenderness in how they treated each other, all of it made their relationship feel genuine. Bonus the spice was hot. The book is on the shorter side, but it packs a punch. It is the kind of read that goes fast but still leaves an impression.
Happy reading friends, ~ Maebae 💚
I’m a fellow book lover reviewing the good, the bad, and everything bookish in-between. All thoughts, opinions, and reactions are completely my own. I wasn’t paid, sponsored, or influenced in any way.
"What did you tell me they say in those books you read?"... "It'll Fit"
I am an absolute sucker for best friends who are clearly in love with each other while everyone else sees it but them, and Twenty Seconds to Love Him by Haleigh Falcon delivered that trope SO well. 😭💙
Bodie and Bryce have been best friends for eighteen years. They’re roommates, inseparable, and basically a package deal in everyone’s lives. So when Bodie’s girlfriend breaks up with him because she’s convinced he’s actually in love with Bryce… well… cue the emotional spiral. 😅💀
Suddenly Bodie is questioning everything he thought he knew about himself, while Bryce is internally panicking because he’s been quietly in love with Bodie for YEARS. Watching these two slowly realize that their feelings might be more than friendship had me smiling like an idiot the entire time. 🥹
Bodie is the definition of golden retriever energy 🐶. He’s sweet, thoughtful, a little chaotic, and those moments where he’s just being his goofy self made me love him even more. The mental image of him running around with his zoomies had me laughing so hard. 😂
Bryce absolutely broke my heart at times. He’s carrying trauma from his past and is terrified that telling Bodie the truth about everything could cost him the one person he loves most. Watching him slowly learn to trust Bodie with those pieces of himself was emotional in the best way. 💔➡️❤️
And when these two finally start giving in to their feelings… wow. 🫠
The chemistry? 🔥 The possessive moments? 👀 The hugs?? (20 second therapy hugs might be my new favorite thing) 🤗
I was eating it UP.
This book has: ✨ childhood best friends to lovers ✨ roommates ✨ gay awakening ✨ possessive moments ✨ “it’s always been you” energy ✨ emotional healing ✨ and some VERY spicy moments 🌶️🔥
Despite a few emotional bumps along the way, the story felt warm, hopeful, and full of heart. Their relationship just felt so natural and genuine.
Also the epilogue??? PERFECTION. 😭✨
Now I’m absolutely hoping we get stories for Kasey, Davidson, and Caleb because my curiosity has officially been activated. 👀📚
Twenty Seconds to Love Him by Haleigh Falcon is the first book in the Bartender Chronicles series. This contemporary MM romance introduces readers to a heartfelt story where friendship, hidden feelings, and one life-changing moment collide. With a cozy yet emotional tone, the book focuses on two best friends whose bond has always been strong… but it only takes twenty seconds for everything between them to shift forever.
From the very first chapters, the story feels warm, genuine, and full of the kind of chemistry that makes you smile while reading. Falcon beautifully captures the comfort of a long-standing friendship — the teasing, the loyalty, the way these two characters know each other better than anyone else. But underneath that familiarity lies a quiet tension that slowly builds until the moment when one realization changes everything. And when that emotional switch flips? It’s impossible not to feel it.
What makes this story especially charming is how natural the romance feels. The transition from friendship to love isn’t rushed; instead, it unfolds with small moments, lingering glances, and the realization that maybe the person who has always been there is actually the one you’ve been searching for all along. The emotional vulnerability, mixed with playful banter and heartfelt confessions, gives the story a soft yet addictive quality.
The characters themselves are easy to love. Their connection feels authentic, and their journey of self-discovery and acceptance adds depth to the romance. Once feelings come to the surface, the story delivers the perfect mix of sweetness, tension, and spice that keeps you turning pages.
Overall, Twenty Seconds to Love Him feels like a warm hug wrapped inside a romance novel — tender, emotional, and quietly powerful. It’s the kind of story that reminds you how sometimes love doesn’t arrive suddenly… it’s been right beside you all along.
I’m a total sucker for a good best friends to lovers story, and while this one isn’t perfect, it was still a really fun, enjoyable read.
We first met Bryce in the Charlotte Social series, where he’s the hot, flirty bartender. Bodie is his childhood best friend and current roommate. Their relationship is so close and codependent that Bodie’s girlfriend, fed up with always coming second, breaks up with him because she realizes that he’s clearly already in love with Bryce.
The breakup hits Bodie hard and sends him into a bit of an emotional spiral, forcing him to finally take a hard look at his feelings for his best friend. Bryce is understandably hesitant at first, worried about ruining their friendship, but eventually he decides to take the risk and give this a shot.
Once they do cross the line into something more, the story focuses on the transition from friends to lovers, with plenty of realizations, sexual awakenings, and complicated emotions. Some of this worked really well, their connection felt genuine, and the relationship was both sweet and hot, but other parts felt a little underdeveloped or rushed. I wanted more depth, especially when it came to the emotional fallout and how quickly some issues were smoothed over.
Overall, I had a really good time with this one. There isn’t a ton of angst, which I appreciated, and while the misunderstanding trope does get a little repetitive at times, it never completely took me out of the story. I genuinely liked both characters even though they have their issues, and not all of them are explored as deeply as they could have been. Still, I found myself rooting for them the whole way through. By the end, their HEA felt earned, these two just made sense together.
2 stars for the effort and for the trope . I’m literally so pissed I’ve waited for this book for months because friends to lovers is my trope . Now I ended up regretting even thinking about to read it . Anyway I don’t wanna get into details because it’s a waste of my time I’ve already done it all these hours reading it . Everything felt to rush from the start and fast paced I could barely keep up with what was going on . Straight guy suddenly remembers he got hard over his friend years ago and goes all “I want him to penetrate me “ like let’s just chill a bit ok? Bro it’s okay to overthink and to panic and properly communicate but I think this book lacks communication. Man has the same trauma i think I’ve found in too many books like can’t these authors get original please thank you. Or at least the way they deal with it . (Bro hasn’t said anything to his best friend of 18 years in fear he would act the same as his ex if I remember ) like what’s this excuse ? I’m a few pages in and they are already ok with the idea of each other and rubbing their cocks together like can u just talk a bit ? Thank you They all possessive and jealous and when they show this to each other they get mad like how dare you be jealous but then they like this side of them like get a grip thanks . I like my men in books possessive without a shame and if it’s mutual , the best , but stop lecturing each other about it like make shit interesting I don’t need a damn psychologist to see through my shit . Let them cook. (But maybe after the first half of the book thanks ) Anyway I’ve already vented too much and I can’t waste anymore time on this book hope I get Alzheimer and forget about reading it .
I loved this book! First of all the MC’s: Bodie deserves his own trope: Oblivious Golden Retriever Hockey Goalie Baby Boy: OGRHGBB for short. 🤔🦮🥅🩵👶 He is the perfect pairing to his childhood best friend, now roommate, Bryce, who has some secrets and trauma and needs the hugs as much as he gives them. Their dynamic was authentic and moving and the steamy bits were hot. 🥵 There all kinds of fun micro-tropes for this bi-awakening story such as bring me flowers 💐if it’s a real date and some jock strap 🏳️🌈 shenanigans.
I loved it so much that I also devoured the Just is Not Enough book right after to get more of some of the side characters.
There is some angst and definite triggers around parental loss, survival guilt and a past auto accident. And a gross side character you want to make a voodoo doll for. You’ll know it when you read it. Be kind to yourself. ❤️🩹
If you love childhood friends to lovers where a GR brings the comfort to a hurt Bestie — I totally recommend this book!
5/5 ⭐️ 4/5 🌶️ 3/5 🖤

✨ Who knew twenty-second hugs could turn into a full-time love story with overtime chemistry? ✨
Bodie and Bryce have been inseparable since high school, now roommates nearly two decades later. Bodie plays hockey in the AHL, Bryce is a bartender, and together they’ve built a friendship so strong it feels unbreakable. But when Bodie’s girlfriend Amber accuses him of loving Bryce more than her, both men are forced to confront feelings they’ve long buried. What begins as confusion and hesitation slowly transforms into a tender, passionate romance—one built on loyalty, vulnerability, and the kind of chemistry that can’t be denied.
Personal Reaction: I adored the way this book captured the depth of their friendship before layering in attraction. The twenty-second hugs, the way they drop everything for each other, and the quiet moments of care made their bond feel authentic and heartwarming. Their first kiss was electric, but it’s the small gestures—Bryce’s thoughtful first date, Bodie’s protective instincts—that made me fall in love with them as a couple. Bryce’s insomnia added a raw vulnerability, and while I wished he’d opened up sooner, it made the eventual emotional honesty even more powerful.
Closing Impression: This is a slow-burn romance that blossoms into obsession, tenderness, and devotion. Perfect for readers who love friends-to-lovers arcs with emotional depth, protective heroes, and chemistry that leaps off the page. I devoured it in one night, it’s that good.
This one quietly sneaks up on you and then suddenly you are completely invested in every look, every touch and every unspoken feeling.
Bodie and Bryce have that kind of friendship that feels solid and unshakeable from the outside. The kind built on years of knowing each other inside out. So when things begin to shift, it is not dramatic at first. It is subtle. A little moment here, a lingering feeling there, until it becomes impossible to ignore.
I loved how natural the transition from friends to something more felt. There is confusion and hesitation, especially from Bryce, who is so afraid of losing the one constant he has. That push and pull between them really worked for me. Bodie is a bit more open once he starts to realise what he is feeling, while Bryce holds back, and it creates this quiet tension that builds beautifully.
There is also a deeper emotional layer running through the story with Bryce’s past and the secrets he carries. It adds weight to his decisions and makes his fear feel real rather than frustrating. You understand why he hesitates, even when you are desperate for him to just take the leap.
The connection between them is soft but intense. It is in the small moments just as much as the bigger ones, and it makes everything hit that bit harder when they are forced to face what could pull them apart.
Overall, this is a tender, emotional friends to lovers story with a strong sense of history and heart. If you love slow shifts, mutual pining and that aching question of what if, this one will definitely land.
Bodie and Bryce, Bryce and Bodie - they are a package deal. Best friends since childhood, each other's person. So when Bodie's girlfriend breaks up with him claiming that he is totally in love with Bryce - he begins to wonder if there isn't some truth to her claim. This sweet story of the adorable MMC's will have you getting butterflies as they navigate their friendship to the next level. You can completely understand Bryce's hesitation of not wanting to ruin their friendship by pursuing more with Bodie, yet at the same time, he has been in love with Bodie for as long as he can remember that it just seems right. However, Bryce has a secret... he has some closely guarded anxieties he fears will push away the people he loves if he speaks his truth out into the world and is not sure if it is worth losing Bodie. And Bodie oh this sweet man. He wants nothing more than to fall even deeper in love with Bryce than he already is but also not wanting to potentially disrupt his chance of playing in the NHL by coming out to his team if this relationship is not going to move past the friend zone. I absolutely loved this book, it was sweet, spicy and perfect. The love Bodie and Bryce have for each other plus their amazing found family will have you grinning the entire time you read!

Bodie and Bryce’s story was entertaining and I had fun reading this best friends to lovers book. Bodie and Bryce are so oblivious of their own feelings towards each other that if it was not for Bodie’s ex-girlfriend blatantly pointing it out to Bodie, they won’t even have given an actual thought to those feelings. In the beginning, things between them get a little awkward because Bodie wants to explore this new side to their relationship whereas Bryce is hesitant to go any further romantically as he is afraid of losing Bodie as best friend. The story revolves around how they overcome their issues like jealousy, physically being away from one another, honestly & openly communicating, being vulnerable in front of one another etc. to finally be together and be happy. I liked the side characters in this story as they are super supportive of Bodie and Bryce and these side characters don’t shy away from knocking some sense when Bodie and Bryce are being big babies. With that said, if you enjoy any of the tropes mentioned above, I highly recommend giving this book a try.
This was such a sweet and heartwarming best friends to lovers story.
Bryce and Bodie have always had a special connection as best friends, but Bodie never really questioned it until his girlfriend breaks up with him after noticing something between them that he hadn’t allowed himself to see. That moment makes Bodie step back and really look at what has always been right in front of him. True to his go with the flow personality, once he realizes it, he fully leans into it. Bryce, however, has his own complicated feelings and past experiences to work through before everything falls into place.
Bodie completely stole my heart. He is such a sweetheart and his quirks and passions made him such a lovable character from the start. While the story is overall sweet and low angst, Bryce carries some heavy experiences from his past, and I really appreciated seeing him work through those with Bodie by his side.
I also loved seeing some familiar faces from the Haleighverse pop up again. Those little cameos always make the world feel bigger and more connected.
Overall this was a warm, fun read that had me smiling most of the way through, with just enough emotion to tug at the heart. Bryce and Bodie balance sweetness, humour, and chemistry perfectly, and their story really shows how sometimes the best love has been right in front of you all along.
I’m really looking forward to seeing where the rest of this series goes next.
Friends who were already closer than most relationships
Bodie and Bryce have been best friends for so long. You can see in every interaction how sweet they are with each other. If it hadn't been told to us you would have already assumed they were a couple. This pairing was absolutely inevitable and I loved seeing the people who were like oh finally you figured it out. Lol.
When Bodie's girlfriend breaks up with him and tells him she can't compete with him already being in love with Bryce he is forced to look at his life with a new angle. Bodie has never been interested in guys but he has loved Bryce forever.
Watching these two gradually move from friends to an actual couple is beautiful. They already have so much they already do that most would assume they were a couple so it was mostly accepting the physical aspects.
The whole twenty second hug deal was so freaking sweet.
"I knew I had to be his anchor sometimes. A few weeks later, he discovered why it was helping and out the twenty-second rule in place. So, I give him his twenty seconds to release the most endorphins since he's so stressed out. I'd do anything for, and he knows it."
This is a beautiful green flag MMC story of realizing your everything has already always been right there.
I love a good friends to lovers story. And this one was cute and fun. It had some flaws, but still a good story to read.
I loved that they had been friends since like 2nd grade. Just showed their dedication to each other. They even shared an apartment. But after Bodie's girlfriend breaks up with him AND tells him that he is in love with his best friend, things...change.
Of course Bryce is immediately worried about ruining their friendship. But he can't resist Bodie for long. I've said this before, but one of the things I like about main characters who are on the younger side, is their ability to say "huh, maybe I'm not as straight as I thought." Gotta love Gen Z.
Bodie also shows his possessive side when one of Bryce's bar regulars takes the flirting a bit too far. Dude deserved it.
The plot point of Bryce not sleeping well needed development. How did Bodie NOT know. I mean, really. The reason could have been a lot more angsty, drawn out, hinted at more.
So that's where I am with the book. It was, clunky, for lack of a better word. There was no good flow between chapters and really even within some chapters. Sometimes it felt like I was reading bullet points that were expanded on but that ended abruptly.
I received this book for free for my honest review.
This book was ok. I liked the premise of 2 lifelong friends, one gay and one straight to bi for you. I liked that it took someone pointing out that they were in love to get the story going. I like that their journey had communication, jealousy, supportive friends and family.
That said I didn’t really connect, it was missing something. There is a lot in this book that isn’t discussed, talked about, or is just assumed, like Bodie’s sexual awakening and when it means for him coming out or staying DL. It’s not flowing, my mind has to consciously keep up rather than naturally do it. It didn’t flow harmoniously. It felt more like a series of thoughts and paragraphs than a flowing tale.
I really enjoyed the premise and the characters are likeable. It may be the writing style that I didn’t connect with.
With all that said, it’s a cute story with a bi-awakening between best friends, some good jealousy comeuppance, lots of spice, just a little angst, and a satisfying HEA. It’s an easy read with hints at another possible couple for the next book.
When two absolutely beautiful souls find each other and fall in love. This is the only way I can think to describe Bodie and Bryce, they are so sweet together and to each other.
Who says you can't fall in love with your best friend? Bodie and Bryce have been best friends since second grade. They've been inseparable ever since. Their love for each other is strictly platonic, right?
Bodie plays hockey, has had the same girlfriend since high-school and lives with his best friend Bryce. Bryce is a bartender, hasn't had any real longterm relationships, and doesn't understand why Bodies girlfriend hates him so much. Otherwise life is good for both of them. All it takes is one confrontation, and both of their worlds shift entirely!
Reading Twenty Seconds to Love Him was such a sweet read! It was so easy to fall into Bryce and Bodies story, I easily could have read it in one sitting (if sleep didn't get in the way). I would describe their story as little to no angst, just a couple of bumps along the way. If you're looking for a sweet story, with loveable guys that just make you smile- this should be your next read.
