Things are going great for Wanda Atkins. She’s almost finished with her Master’s degree, she’s finally moved out on her own, and the cute deputy in their small coastal town wants to spend time with her. If only she wasn’t a murder suspect.
Deputy Jack Kelly isn’t concerned about the Atkins curse, or the fact that the whole town believes Wanda and her family are witches. It’s the bit about her motive, opportunity, and the evidence at the murder scene that’s most bothersome.
He has faith she’ll find the real killer. It helps that she can talk to ghosts.
Fans of Charlaine Harris’s “Sookie Stackhouse” and “Midnight Texas” series, or Janet Evanovich’s “Stephanie Plum” series will enjoy “Pour Decisions” by Tobi Doyle.
. What a wonderful story of romance, past and present, witchery, and murder.
Pour Decisions wraps its arms around you and won’t let you go until long after the last page is turned. From the moment Wanda saw Jack, Atkinsville’s finest deputy in the pub, I was hooked.Pour Decisions is a great warm hearted love story, nail biting murder mystery, and bittersweet ghost story.
Author, Tobi Doyle’s voice is clear and crisp as she tells a story that begins before prohibition, and continues through the brokenhearted ghost buried in the basement of Pour Decisions, local pub. The book is a fast paced ride through Atkinsville, South Carolina. A tale like this could only happen in an old speakeasy turned firehouse, turned restaurant and pub. Right?
Pour Decisions is first and foremost a love story. Wanda and her family in the pub business are all about love.Wanda and Deputy Jack flirt with the hope that Wanda does not get arrested or die before their first date. I didn’t expect to have so much fun with ghosts in a pub near a marina down south with mean girls in the vicinity, Wanda's high school nemeses.
Thank god for handsome local law enforcement.
Pour Decisions is truly a remarkable tale that takes the reader on an excursion from the backroads of the south to a pig farm, and back to the basement of the pub. It’s a bumpy ride that the reader both fears and rejoices for Wanda at every juncture.
As a general rule, ghosts, witches, supernatural with the addition of romance, are not what I’m looking for in a book. That said, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The plot was well paced. The development of the characters was thoughtful and interesting. The characters had depth, the writing was crisp. The narrative voice is what brought me back to Doyle’s writing, having read Too Sweet to Die, a few years ago.Saucy sarcasm and a healthy dose of humor elevate this beyond “just a romance” or cozy mystery. I would definitely recommend.
