When Jonna thinks her husband is cheating on her she considers having an affair with a man (Dominic) who visits her blog. Her blog is written under a pseudonym so she assumes her real identity will remain a secret. Jonna meets with Dominic a few times, but before they go too far, Jonna changes her mind and tells Dominic she won't see him anymore. By this time he's already uncovered her true identity and decides that he will not let her get away so easily.

The book actually started out pretty good with the whole crazed, obsessed stalker theme. Then the story moved in a different direction that wasn't as interesting and took away the creepy factor for me. I didn't like Jonna at all. She had no common sense and endlessly made bad decisions. The rest of the characters were unlikable and they all seemed to have their own secret agendas. No one was trustworthy and it was impossible to sympathize with, or root for, anyone. The only character I did manage to like ended up getting killed. The whole ending part of the story and the plan to get the bad guys was completely ridiculous and unbelievable. Unfortunately, this book didn't work for me at all.

What Lies In Shadow was a gripping thriller from beginning to end! Jonna Karakosta is living a drab life with a husband that she feels distant from. Desperate to share her feelings, she begins a blog under the name Montene. To her shock, Montene becomes the hottest thing on the web and her fan following becomes a source of comfort until she decides to shed her cloak of secrecy and reach out to one particular fan. "Dominic" has always seemed in tune to "Montene" and Jonna decides to explore her sudden feelings by meeting him in person. This is her first mistake. Their "lunch" convinces Jonna that her decision was a poor one and she wants to go back to her husband. However, Dominic disagrees and begins to pursue her relentlessly leaving Jonna with a horrible choice. Revealing herself could cost her marriage but keeping her secret could cost her life.
This book was incredibly difficult to put down. Jonna was easy to relate to, Rush was an attractive personality and Dominic was terrifying. All filled their roles to perfection. Immediately, I was hoping Rush and Jonna would be able to solve their differences and hating Dominic for driving wedges between them. I felt the storyline was predictable however the details were dribbled out in a perfect pace maintaining the suspense throughout. I was left questioning my ideas on how the story was going to unravel even when I knew the who. The description of emotions was palpable but never overbearing. I had hope for Jonna, compassion for Rush and anger for Dominic. The details of Dominic's stalking were fantastically creepy and I wouldn't want to be alone at night reading a book of this caliber!

I truly enjoyed this book and would agree that the wife, the protagonist of the story, made some Poor decisions. However, who amongst us has not, especially when young and i se Ute?

'In the middle of of the road of life, I found myself in a dark wood, having strayed from the straight path. -Dante, The Divine Comedy, Inferno'

I pick up mysteries like snacks because they're quick and usually satisfying. This book didn't disappoint, even though it received some bad reviews on Amazon.

I thought Jonna is pretty believable as a hurt new wife who thinks that her husband is cheating on her. She decides to strike back by having an affair of her own, finding the perfect man on her blog. The safe anonymity of the Internet allows her to write the events of her life under the cover of a much more glamorous, experienced, adventurous woman than she actually is. When she realizes that she cannot go through with the affair, she discovers that she has a stalker on her hands. The story was understandably chilling, as Dominic never did anything that would arouse suspicions or allow Jonna to involve the police. The actual plot was slightly twisted and quite interesting, and I thought the characters were well developed.

However, the ending fell flat as it was a little too abrupt for me.

OMG! This was the BEST book! I've never read anything by Tina Wainscott before so when the book was recommended it sounded interesting and I thought I'd give it a try. I am so happy that I did. I started this book last night and could not put it down. I read and read and read until I could keep my eyes open no more. The storyline is fabulous and it pulled me right in and kept me interested all the way through. I couldn't wait to find out what was happening next. The characters were real, the feelings real...I could so relate to the main female character Jonna. Midway I had a pretty good idea who the bad one was but I had to keep reading. The book ended wonderfully. The ending suited the entire feel of the book. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it ended. I can't wait to read my next Tina Wainscott book!

This was a quick read. There were a few good twists, but I had an inkling that they were coming because of some of the actions of the characters early on. I had a tough time empathizing with Jonna in the beginning - I didn't see that there were sufficient "issues" in her marriage to contemplate straying. It bothered me that sometimes it said her blog was used as her personal diary (meaning HER thoughts) and sometimes it eluded to her using Montene as an "alter ego" (writing someone else's thoughts). It seems like Wainscott used whichever of those suited that particular plot line best. Regardless, I was interested enough to keep reading.

Instead of getting better, her books seem to get more and more repetitive and unimaginative. This one took forever to get through ecause I really couldn't care less. Plus the characters are completely unbelievable and static. It is her initial books (religious romance - not a genre typically seen or one that I would normally read) are the ones worth reading. I'll get one more of her books, but if they keep on the downward spiral of the last four or five books, it will be my last.

Jonna and Rush are having some difficulties with their marriage and she is secretly blogging about her fantasies and desires as "Montene". Then comes Dominic to the rescue, or does he?!

This book keeps you very interested and thinking about how it will end, it did me. The conflicts between the characters were great. I loved the suspense, lies and trust involving these people. Who can you believe anymore? You will be on the edge of your seat wanting to finish it, once you start.

If I could rate this lower, I would. Absolutely dreadful. The main characters blog entries are so freaking boring that nobody but nobody would EVER read this. She's not a "desperate housewife", she's an idiot who needs to learn to communicate with her husband. There's no chemistry between ANY of the characters. Predictable villains, unlikeable characters, extremely unrealistic "tech"... way to try to pick on a popular online phenomena (in this case, blogging) and COMPLETELY miss. Gah.

Another good suspense thriller! It reminded a lot of Fatal Attraction and Dial M For Murder. In the beginning I really didn't feel sorry for the main character. Starting from the first page onward she was really asking for trouble. But as the story progressed more, you felt like you were with her being terrified. A must read!

First of all, the printing in this paperback of the character's blog entries was extremely small. Unfortunately, the story wasn't engaging enough to suffer thru the eye strain. Stopped reading after the second chapter.

This was a good read, an edge of your seat suspense. Tina really brings out the potential danger of divulging personal life experience on the internet via blog and an error in judgment to meet a follower face to face. I enjoyed the turns and twists incorporated in this story line. Ate it up!
