Written in comfortable conversational style, this book is a quick way to get up to date on the process of building a new home in the US. Since I have a preference for a passive house a lot of this was not relevant, but it was a decent read nonetheless. Similar to What Your Contractor Can't Tell You, but from the builder's perspective versus a construction manager perspective.

Excellent advice

I'm a residential home designer and 75% of my clients ask me the questions that are answered in this book. Answered with just enough detail to make MY job easier! Thank you, Chubby Builder. I can now make the general contractor's job easier as well.

Good Information

Will definitely use this information when the time comes. It certainly isn't EVERYTHING you need to know to build a house, but it has a lot of good information and advice. I'm sure it will save me and the people we hire a lot of avoidable grief!

I really liked this book. It had plenty of helpful tips that will save me a lot of aggravation and money. It was funny and the large glossary was especially helpful. I'll use this book throughout my project. Great value for 3 bucks.

There was some helpful info in here, but I couldn't get past the author's mocking previous clients and belittling anyone who doesn't know as much as him.

This is where he lost me: "In the end the bank loaned them the extra money, but not before I had to listen to a week or more of crying and belly aching about how I should have known all this would happen. To this day these folks still don't like me. I have to say there is no love lost. What a couple of dip wads."
