The baby of the Lawson’s got her story 👀
ARC REVIEW
I always love a good second chance romance; it is probably one of my favorite tropes. I love that it didn’t feel rushed of them just instantly falling back into each other but instead they actually had to resolve their issues and had relationship “growing pains”. The twist as to why Jo left all those year ago, had my jaw on the floor. She got such a bad rep but was being so selfless WITHOUT needing any credit. Great representation of real life mental battles young adults have regarding where they are in life.
I didn’t know what to expect since we knew the least about her, but turns out I love this stubborn woman, even if she drove me INSANE throughout the book. You want to hug her and smack her at the same time I swear. I do wish we got a little more insight of the kinds of things that happened the duration that she was gone (like maybe a prologue or a couple of flashback scenes) BUT it really isn’t needed for the present storyline that’s more just me wanting more because i loved it

Jo Lawson comes crashing back into her hometown after betrayal sends her running, only to collide with the one boy she never truly left behind, Beau, the best friend she once kissed in childhood to shield him from bullies, the boy who loved her in silence and believed she abandoned him for another man. So when fate throws them together again, Beau armors himself in cruelty, pretending not to care while every look betrays the hurt he never healed, and as their guarded reunion crackles with slow-burn tension, layers peel back to reveal grief he’s buried from losing his brother and father and a terror of being left behind again, while Jo, branded as trouble but fierce enough to fight for the people she loves, wrestles with feeling behind in life and navigating her ADHD with raw honesty, until their shared history ignites into aching chemistry and a second-chance, enemies-to-lovers blaze that makes you root for Jo from the first page, root for them together with your whole chest, and savor the hard-won, heart-mending happily-ever-after like a perfect chef’s-kiss finale.

A great quick little read, I devoured this in a day! Realistic characterizations of MMC and FMC, great banter, awesome little smut scenes, the will they won't they *chefs kiss*. Without spoilers, the ADHD kitchen scene had me in stitches! As someone with ADHD, Jo felt very relatable right then.

ARC reader and this was my first glimpse into the Lawson world. The book can definitely be read as a stand-alone but planning on diving in to get the backstory on the rest of the siblings!

I received this as an ARC. It is book 5 in the Lawson family series & my first book by Stephanie Renee and I absolutely will be reading the others. You can definitely read it as a stand alone. It’s a second chance rom-com that had me hooked right from the beginning. I absolutely loved Jo & Beau’s relationship & their banter.

🌶️🌶️. 5/5

This was my first book by Stephanie Renee and I wasn’t disappointed at all! This book kept my attention, pay no mind to how long it took me to read it that’s due to life. This story didn’t lack anything for me. Stephanie brought the family dynamics, banter, just enough spice, humor and dealt with ADHD in such a beautiful way!

This follow Jo Lawson who has come back to town. She left town or ran away from town after she received some news. Nothing like a cheating boyfriend to send you back home! But her best friend that she kissed in elementary school cause kids bullied him for being a nerd was left with no explanation under the impression she left to be with a guy. Beau felt some type of way because he’s been in love with Jo the whole time.

When they bump into each other again Beau has his defensive up to protect himself of course. So he goes out of his way to be a d*ck to her and try not to care when deep down he really does care. You pull back the layers of Beau and found out that he’s got his own issues after loosing his brother and father. But he’s determined to not let Jo in. He can’t afford to have her run away again and him left hurt once again with no answers.

Jo has the reputation for getting in trouble around town. But whew Jo is the kind of trouble I want 😮‍💨 she’s fearlessly protects and will quite literally fight for those she loves. But Jo feels like everyone else is ahead of her and she doesn’t have anything to show for her life at her age and that she is behind. You see Jo deal with her ADHD which was handled so well.

Ultimately this story ends with a happily ever after. But you will root for Jo from the beginning of this story till the end. You will root for Jo and Beau together as well. This is classified as enemies to lovers and I would definitely say it’s more second chance romance with best friends to lovers. There is a slow tension build up that was so enjoyable. The history between Jo and Beau made their chemistry even better! Chefs kiss! I can’t wait to read the other books in the A Lilly Leaf Falls Series!

I honestly don’t know what Miss Stephanie put in this book, but it completely sucks you in, you’ll find yourself wanting to do nothing but keep turning the pages.

The story of the baby Lawsons, just like the others before it, did not disappoint. Jo and Beau’s journey was deeply emotional and beautifully written. Jo is far from perfect and often impulsive, while Beau is her complete opposite (steady and grounded). Watching Jo grow, face her past decisions, and learn how to move forward was both powerful and relatable.

One thing I truly love about Stephanie’s writing is how she creates a world where themes like romance, forgiveness, accountability, and self-worth feel natural and effortless rather than forced.

Thank you Stephanie for the opportunity to read this ARC! Your writing never disappoints ❤️

This book is part of a series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone. This is the first one I read, but definitely want to read the rest now!

This is your friends to enemies to lovers trope with some spice built in. I loved how relatable the FMC, Jo, was in terms of struggling with things and never feeling like enough. The MMC, Beau, has the personality that most envision in an ideal partner.

This book read as though I was watching it happen in real life and quickly sucked me in!

I was given the chance to ARC this book. This is a cute little romcom. Its got lots of family, small town character. This is the last of the siblings to get their happy ending, with some bumps along the way. I really enjoyed that it didnt shy away from non traditional paths and that its ok to not be where others are in life. Bc there is something else ment for them. If you are looking for a little cute read (yes there is some spice) give it a go. But I would also recommend picking up books 1-4 as well, get to know the entire family.

this is the second Lawson book I received as an ARC and I loved it! Jo was kind of rough in the beginning, but as a young girl who's been through a lot, she grew so much throughout the book, although it take take until the very end of the book. I loved all the Lawson books and am happy it's not the last of them!

This is an ARC review.

This is the fifth book of a series but the first one that I have read. Although this book is part of a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone. With that being said I can’t wait to go back and read the other four!!!

Pleading The Fifth follows Jo and Beau’s story which I absolutely loved! It touches on their relationship from when they were kids to “enemies” to being in the start of their relationship.

Pleading The Fifth was such a fun read from the first page. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the Lawsons 💕

ARC Review- Thank you for the book Stephanie!

I have to admit that this isn't my favorite Lawson book. I found myself just wanting more, especially at the end. With that said, overall I still absolutely loved this book and the characters! Even though they can be read as standalone, I highly recommend starting with the first Lawson book. They are all amazing!

Definitely worth the chance 🩷

The tldr version:
🩷 Spice
👫🏽 Childhood best friends
🛫 Missed/Second Chances
🧠 Neurodivergent representation
⚖️ Opposites attract
🏋🏽‍♀️ Strong female (and family) bonds
✨ HEA

First, I want to say thanks to Stephanie Renee for the ARC when I realized this was the last in a series I went back to read the other four first and second, although the series can be read as stand alone books I think it helps get a feel for Jo if you see peeks of her through everyone else’s stories and their perspectives of their sister as they go.

This story is about Jo and Beau and jumping on missed opportunities and taking a chance on yourself.

We meet Jo who is a lost heroine who feels she’s unworthy and had a sort of failure to launch start in her adulthood and she ruminates on all of this as she’s packing her life up after walking in on her cheating boyfriend and the subsequent drive home then at different points during her story. Being that Jo is quick on a whim she left home 10 years ago in a tear and in doing so left some very big empty spaces with no real explanations and no accountability for her actions since.

Cut to Beau, the best friend left behind ten years ago with no explanation why and no apology since. Beau who’s been in love with Jo since the day they first encountered each other in 5th grade when she kissed him to get a bully to back off and they’d been inseparable since. Beau who since she left had nothing but loss and time to guess at what happened. Beau who wants nothing to do with her but now has to work with Jo because she’s back in town and working at the same shop he is and volunteering at the animal shelter when he does and who has his shoes puked on by her after he walks her home from the bar one night.

My favorite line? “I’ve been waiting fifteen xxxx years for you to kiss me back.”

A last note:
As someone who shares in Jo’s neurodivergent diagnosis I will say she was described well in the fears and overwhelmingness of everything and nothing. However, I feel like there were times where instead of mentioning the ADHD of it all she could have explained or expressed the behavior with more detail but, again, I think it was well represented overall. The need to run, the feeling of being in trouble and thinking everything is torpedoed and over, the mini depressive episodes, the inability to stay still or pin a thought or task down but then finding a zone and drilling into it until completion? Thank you for honoring something in realness and not just a device quirk for trope device writing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

A romance that begins on the playground, well at least for one of our MCs anyways. Stephanie Renee has written an amazing story with I Plead the Fifth, book 5 in her Lawsons series. This book has it all; spice, romance, depth, emotions, and swooning. I really do love a friends to lovers story as there is so much bubbling under the surface. Stephanie does an amazing job with making readers fall in love with our MCs as they find their way back to each other after being apart.

Beau has loved Jo since the day on the playground she kissed him. Granted she was saving him from bullies, but that didn’t stop his crush from forming and growing over the years. Then she left, without any warning and no goodbye. He knew she always wanted more, but still wasn’t ready for when she started chasing it. Now she is back and he can’t help but have his guard up. He won’t be hurt again by her. The more you read about Beau the more you learn the heartache he has gone through beyond Jo leaving. It’s not just her he can’t be hurt by again, he can’t be hurt again period.

Jo is returning home after finding out her boyfriend has been cheating on her. She is a whirlwind of trouble, but someone you can’t help but love and want to protect. She also feels as though everyone is moving forward but her. When she sees Beau again, she isn’t expecting him to be as rude as he is, but as time goes on, she not only breaks down his defenses, but also realizes what she had right in front of her all those years ago.

Each story in this series has been heartfelt, filled with raw emotion, and deep characters. Yes, a romcom through and through, Stephanie doesn’t shy away from adding in complexities to her storylines that really tug at the heart strings. I enjoyed seeing more family dynamics in this book and adore the relationship they have with each other as siblings. Overall, this book was an amazing read!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

2.5🌶️

The Lawson family is full of characters and quirks and they have worked themselves into my fiction loving heart! This book is the fifth in the series and the story of the youngest Lawson sibling. It’s a quick, lighthearted read that I’m glad to recommend - along with the first four in the series.

Jo is a complex character and is very relatable in a lot of ways. She’s always been presented as strong willed, confident, and self-assured. It felt so honest to see her struggling to find her footing, battling her inner critic, and trying to make amends with past decisions.

I loved the second chance romance/friends to enemies to lovers story with Beau. He also has trauma in his past, though we don’t see a lot of it on paper. It’s implied that he’s battled with many of his struggles (aside from his relationship with Jo) in the time before the start of this story. He’s a rock for Jo and I love how he’s able to appreciate her for who she is, while also staying true to what he wants and needs.

I would have liked to see the story dig more deeply into their inner thoughts and work on themselves. That piece of the story was fairly surface level. But in exchange, it was more plot driven by the reconnection.

Perhaps one of my favorite parts of this book is the incredible support systems - especially the women in this book. Beau’s mom is supportive, loving, and insightful while still coping with her own grief. (She’s also so incredible to her grandpuppy!) I enjoyed seeing Jo’s sister in law go to bat for her, and the support from her mom and tough love from Ronnie made my heart smile.

The ending was a wonderful balance of all the many challenges and needs of the characters. No spoilers here - but I did really enjoy where it wrapped up for Jo and Beau. (That being said, I wouldn’t be mad at a future bonus epilogue… just saying. 😊)

I received this copy as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Spicy Level:🌶️🌶️🌶️

What you Get:
💚 Friends to Enemies to Lovers
💚Small Town Romance
💚Tatted and Pierced FMC
💚FMC with Zero Filter
💚Second Chance

“It took me a long time to see that maybe home isn’t necessarily a place. It’s the people around you who make it home. I think I was never able to put down roots anywhere else because there was no one around I considered home. But now that I’m here, I realize that you are the number one person I call my home. I’m just sorry it took me so damn long to see it.”

If you are looking for a book where the FMC is a bit flawed but 100% herself and an MMC that loves her flaws with an Friends to Enemies to Lovers vibe, this is the one for you! This is a great addition to the Lilly Leaf Falls series. You won't regret reading this stand alone yet intertwined story of Jo and Beau - it was the story I've been waiting for!

Jo (FMC) is the youngest of five and has always followed her own path, refusing to be put into a box. Beau (MMC) was the new kid in town and the local bullies newest target when Jo came crashing into his life at 10 years old, and by giving Beau his first kiss, as a claim she protected him. They became best friends from that day on, inseparable till she leaves town at 18 and stays away. Jo left Lilly Leaf Falls thinking she was doing what was best but she didn't have the best luck with love or life in the “real world”. Beau has been in love with Jo most of his life and was devastated by her leaving and not explaining why. When she has had enough running and wants to go home years later she has a lot to answer for, mistakes to fix, and a friendship to fix if she wants to save her relationship with her best friend.

Ok so can we talk about a man who has been secretly in love with his best friend since the fifth grade and never said a word?? 🫠

Pleading the Fifth by Stephanie Renee is the final book in The Lawsons series, and I went in expecting to be absolutely destroyed, and honestly? I was.

The hero carried this book on his back and he did it beautifully. Stephanie Renee writes male leads who are soft in all the right places and sharp where it counts, and this one is no exception.

He has been secretly in love with Jo Lawson for years, she left without a goodbye at eighteen, and now she is back in their small town acting like nothing happened. The tension that creates is so good it physically made me put my phone down for a second.

The banter is chef's kiss, and getting to see familiar faces from the earlier books woven through the story made this feel like the series send-off it deserved to be. Spending time in Lily Leaf Falls one more time with characters you already love is its own kind of treat.

My one complaint, and I will absolutely die on this hill, is that Jo deserved more page time. She has been a presence in this series since Book 1 as the baby Lawson sister everyone was curious about, so her story felt like it had a lot to live up to, and there were moments where I just wanted to sit with her longer.

But at the end of the day, this book delivered. It was warm, it was fun, it pulled at exactly the right heartstrings, and it closed out the Lawson family in a way that felt complete and satisfying.

5 out of 5 stars. Best for anyone who loves best friends to lovers, small-town second chance romance, and a man who has clearly been suffering in silence for way too long. 😭

📚ARC Review📚

I was thrilled to receive an ARC copy of this book! After reading the fourth book as a standalone and falling in love with the characters, I went back and read the entire series. This is the fifth book, and I absolutely loved it!

The book was an easy and fast-paced read. The Lawson family feels like home, and their relationships are truly amazing. Now, it’s the baby of the family’s turn to have her story told! Jo, being the youngest, is clearly adored by everyone, and they all want her to succeed. She’s super chaotic and outgoing, which I absolutely loved, but she often felt like she didn’t quite fit in while everyone else seemed to have their lives sorted.

Beau, the nerdy handsome golden retriever, was a perfect match! He’s so lovable, and I completely understood his perspective at the start of the book. Once everything was out in the open, he was incredibly understanding, and I fell for him even more. He just wanted to do anything for Jo and never wanted her to change.

Jo and Beau were best friends growing up, and Beau had feelings for her. Before they went to college, Jo left, leaving Beau heartbroken. But when she moved back to town, it was clear they were meant to be together—they just needed to admit it to themselves.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book! I really related to Jo, especially when it came to comparing her life to others and feeling like she hadn’t accomplished much. Beau and her family are there for her every step of the way! It was such a heartwarming and relatable read! I would highly recommend this book and the entire series!

Thank you Stephanie!❤️

I received an advanced reader copy of Pleading the Fifth, my first from this author, and it was such a fun, easy, and addictive read. I flew through this book and enjoyed every minute of it.

This story delivers a super spicy friends-to-lovers romance with strong emotional depth and fantastic character development. The female main character’s journey was especially impactful — watching her grow, gain confidence, and truly learn about herself while navigating ADHD and past relationship trauma made her feel incredibly real and relatable.

One of my favorite elements of this book was the family dynamic. The support, love, and chaos between the siblings added so much warmth and heart to the story. Seeing how deeply they cared for their little sister, standing by her through her mistakes and “flaws,” made the emotional moments hit even harder and added a beautiful layer to the romance.

The chemistry between the main characters was intense, the tension was perfectly paced, and the spice level was 🔥🔥🔥. The romance felt natural, emotional, and deeply satisfying, making this a book I couldn’t put down.
Overall, Pleading the Fifth is a spicy, heartfelt, friends-to-lovers romance packed with emotion, growth, and swoon-worthy moments. I highly recommend this one to romance lovers who enjoy strong character arcs, supportive family dynamics, and high-heat romance.

ARC Review

While this can be read as a stand alone, I did read the first four beforehand. I absolutely loved this series! They are short, comfort romance reads. This one takes you on Jo's journey.

Jo is the youngest of five siblings and the wildest of the group. She isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in, will fight anyone, and has the biggest heart for those she loves. Back in elementary school she stands up for the new kid, Beau, and they become inseparable. They are best friends right up until Jo leaves town without any explanation.

Beau has been in love with Jo since they were kids and her leaving really hurt him. He barely got a goodbye and went off to college without her. He ended up moving back to Lilly Leaf Falls when his father and brother passed away to be closer to his mom. He has a pretty good life, until Jo returns.

Jo spent the past decade moving from crappy relationship to crappy job. She decided after her most recent boyfriend cheated on her to move back home. She was broke and broken. She was excited to see her best friend, but didn't expect him to be so cold. Will he be able to hang on to the hate and hurt and keep her out of his life, or will she be able to convince him she's home for good?

Overall I fell in love with the character just as much as the other four. Highly recommended if you just need a feel good love story.

Pleading the Fifth may be the fifth book in the Lawson family series and the baby of the bunch, but it can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone. Stephanie Renee makes it easy to fall right into this world without feeling lost, and honestly… it just makes you want to go back and meet everyone else.
Beau and Jo are completely adorable together.

Jo is a full blown free spirit and total firecracker, clearly on her own journey of growth and self discovery. Beau is the perfect balance to her chaos, he's strong, steady, and unwavering in the way he shows up for her. Their dynamic just works. Once they push past the weight of their history, their connection feels natural, supportive, and genuinely sweet.

One of my favorite parts of this story was the supporting cast. The Lawson family and friends don’t try to smooth out Jo’s quirks or make her fit a mold. Instead they encourage Beau to love every piece of her exactly as she is. That kind of acceptance and found family energy really makes the romance enjoyable.

This is a quick, easy read that delivers heart, angst, charm, and a satisfying romance with a quirky FMC. It left me smiling and definitely excited to read more from Stephanie Renee.

I loved the history between them in this one. That fifth-grade kiss wasn’t just a cute backstory detail — it meant something, and you can feel how deeply it stuck with him all these years. The quiet, one-sided pining, the small-town familiarity, the resentment mixed with unresolved love when she comes back… it all felt layered and real.

The small-town setting worked so well too. There’s something about running into someone everywhere — at the store, at events, through mutual friends — that makes the tension impossible to escape. You could really feel how much he’d tried to move on, and how quickly all of that crumbled the second she was back in his orbit.

I especially liked that he isn’t the same boy she left behind. There’s growth, a little bitterness, and a lot of guarded emotion. The push and pull between wanting to protect his heart and wanting that second kiss? So good.

The only reason it’s not a full five stars for me is that I wanted just a bit more emotional depth in a couple of their bigger conversations. But overall, this was angsty, nostalgic, and packed with that second-chance tension that makes you ache a little while reading.

ARC Review :Pleading the Fifth is a second-chance romance that proves love and hate really can sit on the same line — especially when pride and unresolved feelings get in the way.

Jo and Beau’s story isn’t built on shallow banter or forced tension. It’s rooted in history, miscommunication, and the quiet damage insecurity can cause. What makes this book work so well is the emotional growth. Jo’s fear that conflict means loss feels real, not dramatic, and watching her slowly learn that love doesn’t disappear after a fight is deeply satisfying.

Beau is steady in a way that feels mature rather than possessive. He’s protective without being controlling, patient without being passive. The chemistry is strong, but it’s the emotional security — the reassurance, the consistency, the “I’ve got you” energy — that makes their relationship compelling.

This is a small-town romance with heat, heart, and two people finally choosing each other instead of their pride.

If you love second-chance stories, emotional vulnerability, and a hero who understands that security is sexy, this one is worth the read.

I received an ARC of Pleading the 5th: The Lawsons: Book 5 in exchange for an honest review, and I have to start by saying — this meet cute was absolutely adorable. I was hooked from the beginning. There’s just something so satisfying about seeing the youngest Lawson finally get her love story, and Jo did not disappoint. She’s an ADHD hot mess in the most lovable, relatable way, and I was completely here for it. Watching her navigate love, growth, and vulnerability felt authentic and heartwarming.
Jo and Beau are honestly perfect together — I mean, how could they not be with names like that? I loved the way Beau loves her, quirks and all. His steady, unwavering support balanced her beautifully. I’m not usually a huge friends-to-lovers fan, but add in a second chance romance with a glow-up and suddenly I’m fully invested. The tension was just right — enough to keep me turning pages without feeling dragged out. Even though this is the fifth book in the series, it absolutely stands on its own. You don’t need to read the previous installments to enjoy this one. I would definitely recommend this book and wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another story by Stephanie Renee.

I received this ARC from the author in return for my honest review. I really enjoyed this story! This is the first of the Lawson series I’ve read and I liked how I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything else. Now I want to go back and read the others!

This story follows the youngest sibling Jo and her reconnecting with her childhood best friend Beau after years of no contact. They both have had crazy life changes and traumatic experiences, so the reconnection takes some work before they are able to fully commit to a relationship.

I found myself really enjoying Jo and her chaotic ADHD energy. I felt like she was a very relatable character. I just wish we could’ve gotten more about her time away from Lily Leaf Falls and what made her the way she is now. Beau is basically a golden retriever of a man for his friend he’s loved since childhood. It’s cute to watch the quiet nerdy guy in love with the ADHD crazy girl.

Overall I really enjoyed this spicy rom com and would recommend it to others as a fun read

I haven’t read the other books in this series, but honestly, that didn’t take anything away from my enjoyment of this one. This was also my first book by Stephanie Renee, and I really liked it. I’ll probably go back and catch up on the rest of the Lawson books because the side characters definitely piqued my interest.

Jo (FMC) was a bit much for me at times, though I understand that was intentional given her ADHD. Beau (MMC), on the other hand, I absolutely adored. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was done so well - I genuinely felt Beau’s anger and hurt toward Jo. The spark between them was palpable, and the fact that they’d known each other since childhood really highlighted how deep his loyalty, friendship, and love for her ran.

Jo is a runaway who feels like a failure, and the frustration she caused me as a reader felt very real. While I wish the inner emotions had been explored a bit more in the writing, overall I still enjoyed the story. This ended up being a 3.75-star read for me, rounded up to 4 stars.

🌶️/5 *As an avid smut reader, I found the open door scenes quite mild and there are just a few.

This was my first Stephanie Renee book and the Lawson family is so charming! I read this book as stand alone but I can see how the sibling tie ins would make this book even better if I had read the other four leading up to this one.

I loved the background of Beau and Jo as best friends before she ever left town to explore her wild side. The moment she came back it was clear Beau wasn’t over her even though he fought it. Stephanie does a good job of making you feel Jo yearning for Beau to accept her back into his life but Jo never pushes him too hard.

Beau loves Jo so well and really shows her how a man should treat a woman. Even though you don’t get a lot of back story on Jo’s history with men in the past, you can tell the way she reacts to Beau treating her with the respect she deserves, her past wasn’t so great. It’s so sweet to see her learn what a healthy love looks like.

Overall, this book is such a fun and easy read. I absolutely flew through it. It’s paced so well and you definitely get a fun amount of yearning.

I had the privilege of getting to read this as an ARC.

A second chance romance that has it all.

I’m so in love with the Lawsons, and whether this is your first time meeting them, or your fifth, I have no doubt you will instantly feel the same!

This book focuses on Jo, and she’s an adhd free spirit who simply will not be tamed. In spite of that, she is fiercely protective of those she cares about, to a fault.

This book is the very best of second chance romance and will have you completely in your feels as you follow Jo and beau along their path from best friends to enemies to lovers.

True to form, The author will have you dying lying with her clever innuendoes and rib cracking humor. But more than that, she will continue to let you get to know a family that is always there for one another, no matter what kind of crazy life throws at them. Even if, as in Jo’s case, you yourself are the crazy.

Can’t wait to read more of her writing, as she has a true talent for taking you to emotional depths while keeping things truly entertaining. Highly recommend this book!!!

Stephanie Renee strikes again! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC, and I have to say that I love these characters and I love Lilly Leaf Falls! Beau and Jo with their friends-to-enemies-to-lovers second-chance romance were so lovely together. Jo's loveable quirkiness (with a side of ADHD) paired with Beau's nerdy steadiness and compassion melded together with a large helping of spice and formed a story that was full of heart. The fact that Beau was able to let Jo feel her feelings even when they were hard was really refreshing, I think we can all relate to Jo and her down days (personally I can absolutely relate to the feeling of being behind in life). I also love how the author manages to capture siblinghood so well, all of the Lawson sibs are there for one another throughout with love and a nice kick in the pants when it's needed. My only caveat is that the ending felt a little bit rushed and I wanted more time with the characters.

Overall, Pleading the Fifth is a fast-paced and wonderful addition to the Lawson series!
