Five Cops…Four Days…Three Criminals…Two Objectives…One Outcome.

In the dead of night, an Atlanta neighborhood erupts in sudden violence. To the participants, whether dead or alive, two pairs of eyes observe the event. However, are they reliable witnesses and more importantly, how likely will they come forward to report what they saw to authorities?

For Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs and his elite X-Men Homicide Squad this new investigation exposes case evidence that the victims were members of the Atlanta Police Department.

The crime sets off a series of events that reveals an underbelly of criminal organization that involves Fabrice Mousassi and Julianna Delacroix. Payback fuels the fire inside of them that in turn races against the tick…tick…tick of a past windfall. Mousassi and Delacroix won’t allow it to slip away and by any means and method necessary, there will be retribution and long overdue compensation.

The intensity of these threads and their connections increases the pressure on the X-Men to solve the crimes in the swiftest manner possible. However, painful pasts, guilt, innocence, societal rule of law and street justice will all collide with collateral damage that resonates to the highest levels of the APD.

"Cold Lick" by Cortez Law III

What I liked about this novel.....

"Cold Lick" by Cortez Law III was another one of this author's good novels. This was indeed another good mystery novel that this author seems to write so well for the reader. For Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs and his elite X-Men Homicide Squad was quite a story with this team not only having to deal with the criminal organization but also the members of this Atlanta Police Department that will go even deeper in the ranks before this case is all over. This was really a touching story of this Sergeant Hobbs because in this story will not only be about his job being on the line but his personal life that deals with some deep dark secrets that his family has held from him. What was that all about? In that ending of this story after all was said and done left me saying wow and shaking my head! I was sure left wondering at this point will there be another novel that will pick up where this one left off? Now, to truly understanding all of the twist and turns in this mystery novel and there will be many the reader will have to pick up "Cold Lick" to see for yourself how well this author will bring it all out to the reader.

Solid story of suspense and intrigue. This is the 2nd book in the series. If you enjoy watching CSI or NCIS this is the steries for you!

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review

Though I find this author to be highly gratifying in his ability to construct a story line and I assure you that I wanted to enjoy this read in its entirety. But (this book) would not allow me to give 'COLD LICK' more than a '3' rating because the writing style was a huge struggle for me. I found myself spending a great amount of time trying to decipher the (slang lingo) embedded throughout, which more often than not, didn't make sense to me. Which in my opinion took away from the intended target; reviewing this body of work with certainty, as my concentration was constantly thrown off.

Disappointing.

The plot was okay if a little cookie cutter.

I found the writing style challenging. I really struggled to read the book and I found the story quite difficult to follow.

Two off duty policemen are killed at a scene, blood trails of someone being carried away, multiple types of shell casings and teenage wannabes. A stalker has witnessed the event from a short distance away and a street smart small time hood almost gets killed in the crossfire. No money left anywhere. Sgt Hobbs with his X-Men (Pepper, Orlando, Shepard, Selena)have been gifted this case by their Chief as a priority secret investigation. The dead policemen are known by many in the police force. Orlando and Selena are ready to defend them since both had worked with them. Pepper and Shepard are not familiar with them. Soon paranoia and suspicion, outbursts of anger, and disobedience divide the X-Men and everyone can't trust their partners. The small time hood has managed to grab one of 2 bags left at the shooting and the stalker grabs the other. Now security camera footage also show some members of the X-Men in critical scenes as if they are colluding with the Chief in something that might affect the outcome. A mysterious "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" who no one has ever seen, the small time hood with a bag full of money trying to keep it for himself, Shepard and Orlando increase their animosity forcing Hobbs to take disciplinary action. Add the sudden arrival of Shepard's uncle at his apartment only to be followed by the rest of his family to argue over the "secret" he doesn't know about. Good character development in depths that make them spring off the pages. It gives a very interesting view of Shepard, background information that makes him more than "uppity" as Orlando sees him. This is the third book in this series and I read it for free to review. I really enjoyed this series as it goes on, as the individual characters are a spotlighted to shine within.
