I honestly don't know what to say or how to rate this book. I can really see it being a ⭐️ or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I am in an emotional spiral. This book is intense and seriously all over, from beginning, middle and end I did a lot of And yet I'm literally sitting in the dark trying to figure out if I want to slap my husband, kiss my husband, punch my mother... It is hard to be mad when a book can totally mind fuck you. honestly, this book isn't for everyone
There is crazy and then there is THE CRAZY ! And Contrite is THE CRAZY !!
The blurb pretty much covers everything you need to know to get started . And boy let me tell you Contrite is a fast paced , no breather - thriller with some prett-ay steamy moments ! I started it this morning and I devoured it by the time night-time rolled out !
I was a little confused about Clove's character because of certain things she did . I mean .. Fuck that's gonna get into spoiler territory and that is a no-go right now . But I kinda wanted to scream at her and then I also felt that she somehow couldn't help it .
Let's talk about the ending for a second . Because that ending left me shell-shocked ! For a minute or two I was sitting staring at those last few paragraphs wondering if there is more to it . And then I'm .... I was just freaking out trying to think what's gonna happen next . I think this book is a standalone so yeah , yeah ... that ending it was ... just BRUTAL ! Brutal I tell ya !!
This one started off strong and interesting, but by the end I was sort of skimming to see how things would end up. I would not consider this romance at all. Maybe erotic suspense? It’s entertaining and darkish, but it also got a little over the top toward the end. It’s a good read overall though.
Have you ever felt like a book dragged you through the ringer, raked you over a grater, and bashed you off the rocks, yet you kept going back for more because what you’re reading had you so blown away you’re afraid to even blink between words? Contrite is that book. It was so full of twists and turns and OMG-did that really happen moments, I found myself gripping my couch cushions and digging my nails into my legs just to keep myself grounded while I read on. Kathy Coopmans so masterfully wrote this book that I started questioning what and who I know in my own life. I began to look around and ask, “How well do I know my husband?” Everything I thought I knew about my everyday life came to a screeching halt after reading this mind f&*^ of a book.
The love, guilt, pain, torment, and torture were so well written that I felt like I was walking in Clove’s shoes, felt like I was feeling her emotions. Her anguish became mine. When she became determined to do something, I felt determined alongside her. I love that she is such a strong character.
Turner-I felt so bad for the raw deal he was getting. The whole book I found myself thinking, when will I get more info on Turner and when I did, I cried for him. His strength, love, and determination are what makes him the man every woman wants in their life.
There’s no way to read this book without wishing you have the love that Turner and Clove have for each other. You’ll read this story thinking…WHY…why is all of this happening? Of course, I’m not going to tell you what happens because this is a book you just have to experience for yourself.
The supporting characters played the perfect roles in the story. They helped to strengthen the story and develop the plot. Everything about this book pulled me in and held me captive. As soon as I started reading I had to keep going until I got to the end. There was no way I could stop until I knew what happened.
This is easily one of my favorite reads of 2015 and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Five stars is not a high enough rating! If you want a book that will take you down a twisted path and make you question everything, Contrite is the book for you. It’s also Coopman’s best work to date. Don’t miss out on this highly emotional, well written book that readers will be talking about for years to come.
Love the summary.... I can't wait. I hope she becomes a new favorite author

this book is messed up. man is this book a total mind fuck. It was different and a lot of twists and turns. original for sure. did I like it? Well, I hated the ending so it ruined a lot of how I felt about the book. To each their own. *Just found out there is going to be a sequel. Not sure how I feel about that either..
This book was surprisingly amazing! It's funny but it was recommended to me through an email from Amazon and I'm thrilled that I got to take advantage of it through my KU account.
One thing I can say about this book is that the writing style is definitely unique. It is so different from ANYTHING I've ever read before. It's narrated first person POV by the heroine, which was a bit disconcerting because her inner thoughts drove me nuts. There was enough craziness happening throughout the story and her mind added more clutter and white noise.
For those of you, like me, who are opposed to reading about OW, OM, or really any cheating whatsoever, I must warn you that there is some in this book. However, it is not what you think. It is all part of the mindfuck that is the plot, which is revealed pretty early on in the story. Please go in with an open mind, but be prepared to be disgusted, repulsed and strangely turned on.
I didn't have much love for Clove throughout this story and that didn't really change by the end. I was, however, sympathetic to her plight and found myself rooting for her despite my distaste for her character.
The events of the book unfolded pretty quickly and definitely kept me on my toes, anxiously waiting to read what was going to happen next. Once again, I'm glad I took a chance with this book and I'm happy book 2 (Reprisal) is also available through KU.
I freaking loved this story. It was hot as hell. And yeah, I know I will be in the minority, but I love Trent. I'm pulling for him all the way. I forgive him for all his fucked up twisted-ness. He's awesome. Can't wait to see what happens with him and Clove in the sequel.
I have no words…No words at all…I am thrown up against the wall with my mouth hanging wide open after completing this book. Here’s my dirty little secret – I almost always skip to the ending of a book to find out how it ends; but every once in a while I like torture myself and read a book without knowing how it is going to end. I made up my mind that I was going to go in blind with this book and take myself on the wild ride from the first page all the way through to the end. I never expected what was thrown at me. How do I even begin to write about this book without giving away the plot? I’ll try my best…
Clove and Turner have been together for 8 years and are business partners in an accounting firm. They are together so much that every characteristic, physical attributes and nuances are fully memorized. Any variation of these would be noticeable almost immediately by the other person. After Turner returns from a week-long business trip, Clove can sense something is different.
The man staring back at me doesn’t look like the same man who left me a week ago. No. This man has a blank expression on his face; his eyes are as vacant as they come.
Clove immediately thinks that Turner has cheated on her. Why else would there be a change in his demeanor? Everything continues on in their lives as if nothing is different – going to work, carrying on with their routines, and having dinner with her brother and his family. The only noticeable change in Turner’s behavior is his more aggressive sexual behavior. Clove is torn between embracing the change in his sexual aggressions or to be concerned for the reason behind it. (Note: These “dirty” little escapades are quite steamy!)
But even though the lower half of my body enjoyed his dirty talk, the upper half that holds my heart is desperate to know why the hell his unfamiliar, foul words leave me with such desire for him to do exactly what he said he wanted to do.
Clove is desperate to find out what Turner is hiding. It helps that her brother is a detective. With his expertise and credentials, he is able to unveil the first of many twists in this story that will have your stomach plummeting.
“Is he cheating on me?” “It’s worse, Clove. Much worse.” The way he looks at me tells me whatever his news is, it’s going to rip me to shreds.
Clove needs to carry on with her life as if nothing has changed. She cannot let it slip that she knows the secret. This is where you will be wrangling with your emotions over what is right and what is wrong. Clove is doing what is expected of her and even though she knows it’s wrong, she has to do it – everything depends on her keeping herself in check and playing the game. Her devotion to Turner is clear that she will sacrifice anything to prove her love for him.

As the truth is slowly unraveled, you will be forming your own conclusions. You will be switching out your hypothetical endings after every page turn. You will be wondering who to believe. You will be bamboozled. You will never ever anticipate what the ending will bring.
“Look at me! Look at what you have done! You have destroyed me. I’m broken beyond repair.”
This is my first book that I have read of Ms. Coopmans and she has left an indelible impression on me. I will add her to my list of authors not to miss. I do need to tell you that this book may not be suitable for all readers. There may be a few triggers, and the sex scenes may be bothersome because of the circumstances. I hope I didn’t give away anything with that warning, but I feel the need to allow the reader to make their decision based on what they consider tolerable.
This book was terrible. The writing was amateurish. I figured out the twist immediately but I don't think I was supposed to. The ending was an eye-rolling cliffy...or not. I'm not sure. Needless to say I won't be reading the next book if there is one. This is the first time I've returned a book that I've read. Don't waste your time.
It could've been great but it went wrong This is the story about Clove and how her life changes after his husband makes a work trip without her. I really thought I was going to like the book, it has a lot of 5 stars reviews and the blurb sounded really good. However, I have so many issues with the story and I'm going to start with what doesn't give the plot away. When I cannot do that, read after the spoiler alert. - The book is too descriptive and it makes it repetitive. That makes it tiresome and I had to stop a few times. - Clove, she got on my nerves a lot if not the whole book. Yes, she loves her Turner, but she repeated it a lot that had me rolling my eyes whenever she stated that he was her life. - I'm not American, so maybe this is an issue for this Mexican girl, but I don't call my hubby by his name all the time. Clove this, Clove that, Turner this and Turner that. Really? That just was weird to read, but I give the author the benefit of the doubt since it could happen at the States where the story takes place. - The plot twist gets revealed at 20% into the book (I checked!). That's too soon. A lot of things could've happened before the great revealing and it would've given more to the story. - I have an anatomy issue that I just couldn't get passed over. If they are having sex doggy style, how his balls hit her ass? That doesn't make sense at all! It's not possible and that's a mood killer for sure. - I found this things corny in a way: + Petals of my lips <- this had me laughing in the middle of the sex scene + Receptive wife <- If my hubby ever tells me this, I'd smack him. + I'm going to explode all over you <- I don't think a person about to have an orgasm would say this. + Warm juice spill inside me <- Eww!! This is gross + He is cupping handfuls of my bottom <- the next time she calls it ass, consistency is needed.
My other problems have spoilers, so
***SPOILER ALERT***
- She knows since the beginning "I gulp and stare up at the man who know is my husband, yet seems different in the few short hours since he has been home" but does nothing at all. Except to cry and think how much she loves him. - So, Clove is an accountant, suddenly she's the best actress ever living with someone that it's not her husband pulling it off the best way ever. - They're about to have sex, Clove already knows he is not her husband but still gives in more than once. Really? Doesn't she love Turner with all her heart? That's cheating, then he wants anal. Ok, maybe it's just me but she gave in really fast knowing it was her first time there and he was another person. She's not a teen, so she should have control over her hormones or at least put more of a fight. - When I read a book, I like consistency through all the story and there were two things that got my attention: + When Clove is kidnapped by Trent, he says Turner is the older twin, then as the story goes by, he states he is the older twin. + The first time Clove is in Trent's room, she says she found a knife like in a shelve, however when she's about to be attacked by James, she says there's nothing but a coat hanger. - Then there is a rape scene, the blurb states this so the warning is there. However, no rape victim would be that rational afterwards. Clove only presents symptoms at the beginning but suddenly she's able to think clearly and be around him. That doesn't happen. - Finally, the epilogue. WTF!! Really?? That doesn't make sense! If the book didn't have that epilogue it'd make sense. Clove said over and over that she would't live without Turner, so killing herself goes with that. But that epilogue screw things over. There's no way Trent is living Turner's life even if no one believes Clove. I mean, they could tell after a week of Trent pretending to be Turner that something was wrong, then months from that and a baby. Sorry, that's not just believable at all. Specially with Clove's family.
***END OF SPOILERS*** The story had so much potential but it went wrong. I liked the premise but there were so many wrong things. That's why I rated it with 2 stars, which is the lowest rate I give to books. 1 star for writing it and another for publishing, but it doesn't go up.
Let me start off by saying I loved every page of this story line, its left me speechless since last night when I finished reading it.
Contrite is my favorite book of 2015 by far.
After I reached the final page my emotions were scattered, I was dumbfounded and stupefied by this roller coaster of a story. From page one I was captured, intrigued and couldn't stop reading till I knew what was going to happen.
I'm in awe of this author and so proud of this book...BRILLIANT!!!
Clove and Turner have a love that is everlasting, nothing could ever stand in their way of a happily ever after. That is until someone changes everything they have ever known. It's amazing how the mind can play tricks on you, lie to you and turn your world around in the blink of an eye.
I was sceptical about the book at first until I began to see the plot emerging. It is a gripping page turner that will have you sucked in to the world of infatuation, greed, hatred and a heartbreak end. You will be shocked by the ending, I was!! Heading on to Contrite (book2)
What the hell have I just read. I'd heard it was a book like no other. I devoured the book, waiting for the bomb to drop. And when it did, I was gutted! I can't decide if I loved it or hated it. Either way it got me feeling.
4.50 -5.00. Madness. Mayhem. Mindfuckery. The ending…WTF? Is it really over? Is there a sequel planned? OMFG I need to know if certain characters are really alive/dead. This book was absolute KINDLE CRACK.
This book had an opportunity to be a layered pschyological thriller with bits of romance but instead we got superficially described characters, a plot that seems to be written for a movie that would probably be rated somewhere around 4 on IMDb. When I started to read it, yes, I admit, it was interesting but right off the bat there was sex, and there continued to be so freaking much of it. Every. Single. Day. She pickes up her husband from the airport and has a feeling someting is off. It's his evil twin brother! Ta-daaa! That one wasn't hard to figure out. After she figures out something's wrong, she calls her brother the cop who advises her to stay with the pretend husband after they found out he's the evil twin just so he doesn't do anything to her real husband. I am sorry but...what? I'm pretty sure that's not the standard procedure but okay, it's a book, I'll let it go. However she continues to fuck the pretend husband and likes it very much. At one point she even thinks about how she wanted to have kids with her husband yet doesn't use protection with the evil twin even though she knows he might knock her up. Well now, that it is some fucked up shit. Not to mention the ending- eye rolling, desperation screaming, book throwing worthy. As far as dialogues go, there was so much shit and fuck included that it simply degraded an already far-fetched story. Honestly, it was exhausting reading this book, mentally and physically. I was rolling my eyes so much, they started to hurt. Hopefully, my memory will fully recover and forget all about this experience.
Turner Calloway had everything he ever wanted in life. College graduate in Accounting, owns his own firm with his soul-mate and wife. His business is great, family life is amazing. Until he leave for one out of town business trip and his wife decides to stay behind.
Clove Calloway was living the perfect dream life. She was married to her best friend. Turner was everything you could ask for in a partner in personal and professional lives. He needed to make a business trip for a week and this trip she stayed behind for a special birth. Her first nephew was being born and she wasn't going to miss that. She showed up at the airport to pick up her husband and something was different about him..
This story grabs you from the very first chapter and keeps you engaged throughout the entire story. It's full of mystery and intrigue. I was drawn in and couldn't put it down. I would and am definetly recommending this book to anyone and everyone that will ask for a book to read.
**I was given a copy of Contrite by author Kathy Coopmans for my honest review. It was an honor and a privledge to read this book.**
This book completely f'ed me up. But in the most tortured, good way possible. I actually finished it yesterday but needed a good 24 hours to compose myself and sit down to write this review. Two negative reviews have been left for this book and both I have to disagree with so implicitly- this book MAY have hinted at what they plot was to it, but it totally was NOT completely obvious. The end MAY have been completely mind boggling, but it IS very worth reading and waiting on pins and needles for the sequel. You know it is the sign of a good book when everyone that you know that has read it is still talking about it days and weeks later, like the people allowed to receive copies pre-release are right now. The synopsis tells you some of what you are getting into by reading this, so you don't need my recap of that, but let me tell you, there is so much more in store than what that gives away. This is one messed up book.....but you absolutely will be missing out if you don't read it anyway. Well done Twin, well done. ~ Kellie for Eye Candy Bookstore
There needs be half scores! I would definitely rate this story a 4 1/2!! Contrite was one of my top reads of 2015. At every page turn this erotic suspense thriller leaves you shaking your head going "WTF!!" The entire story is full of twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat. As soon as you think that you have it figured out the story flips in another direction. I was unable to put it down!! Clove and her husband Turner have been never been apart for more than week since they were sophomores in college. Soon after Clove picks Turner up from a week long business trip she notices something different about him. Immediately she doubts everything she's ever known... Clove needs to know what going on with her husband. She enlists her brother Zach, a police officer, to find out what is really going on with her husband. Clove already suspects the worst but she has no idea how bad it really is. The only reason I gave this story a 4 1/2 and not a 5 is ending. I left the story going "Wow! Really??" As I loved entire story, I left not sure how I felt about the ending.
Wow.. This is one of THOSE books. The kind that leaves you speechless at the end and still thinking about it hours and even days later.
Its so hard to write a review about a book like this because it’s an “experience” book. You as a reader need to experience every single thing yourself as your reading it. To talk in depth about this book would give away to many spoilers. But its soo worth the read.
My best advice is to read the blurb.. I’d like to give you a few warnings but I wont. Well maybe one – plenty of explicit sex.. And a mind blowing ending.
I also want to say the cover for this book is 100% spot on. So many covers dont accurately depict the characters but once you read the book and then look back at the cover, its telling you a story all in itself.
I don't even know where to start. My mind is still spinning after this amazingly twisted story! Author Kathy Coopmans warned us all. She gave all her fans the heads up. I was prepared to be mind-blown. No I was not. This book is on another level of intense drama. I loved it. I am not giving anything away with this review. So I am going to say this. Read it. Read it as soon as possible. It's worth the book hanger in every way. When I finished this I just stared at my walls in quit, trying to calm my heart right and regain feeling in my fingers from holding my kindle so tight. One click worthy is a understatement!
Mind blowing! Not what I expected. Contrite is full of twist and turns. Kathy Coopmans writing in this book is amazing and totally different from her other books. I had to go back and re-read it again because the first time I was shocked and stunned and had to make sure I didn't miss something. Without spoilers all I have to say really is WTF just happened???? I'm still going over it all in my head!
WTF did I just read? I'm so confused. Very unique storyline that I enjoyed until the last 1/4 of the book. From there, even though it should be climatic, I found myself checking my reading process because it wasn't holding my interest. And that ending? HUH?
I really hope there is a part 2, because this book really owes me. Has me feeling some type of way.... Not happy with the mind Fuckery it ended with. IJS....
WHOA!!! I'm not sure I even have words to describe how I feel about this book!! Holy hell! I have read books before that people called a mind f*ckery, but this? THIS! BOOK!! I finished yesterday and my mind is still reeling! I loved the characters and felt like I was living this drama right there with them. And over-the-top hot sex, WOW! I highly recommend this to those that aren't squeamish and can stand a good thriller!
I don't know how to write a review about this book, if I tell you about the characters it would involve giving some of the story away and I wouldn't want to do that, you should experience the shocks exactly the way I did!
This book takes you on a journey you wouldn't believe, it will seriously mess with your mind! Its all kinds of messed up, but in a good way................I think!
not for the faint hearted, there are some triggers involved, but if you can handle some darkness its definitely worth a go. And that's before I mention the extremely hot scenes!!!
Holy crap - this book is like a tidal wave leaving your head spinning. It pulls you in, spits you out and reels you back in. Loved it despite it all......!
