YOUTUBE FIRST IMPRESSION VIDEO: https://youtu.be/OTaTfkmDCGo

I have been unsure of how to review this volume because I laughed SO much while reading, but I originally really struggled with the premise, and I was not prepared for that at all?

This was mainly a blind buy for me going in, but I was aware of Wakaba wanting to go back to her high school days and live out that dream of going on dates during that time. I do not know if it's just timing or what, but I was so bothered by it when reading because I personally have had absolutely no desire to relive my high school days, as rude as that sounds. I made so many friends and had a good high school experience in itself, but my home life in high school was awful. Somehow and for some reason, Wakaba's desire to go back to a time I really disliked triggered painful memories when reading, even though her life is so different from mine, and there is nothing else that could be "triggering" when remotely reading.

It caused me to unexpectedly struggle for the first two chapters, even though I LOVE Wakaba as a character! I may not find her dream relatable, but I did find her overexcitement super relatable and fun to read! Surprisingly, I really felt it was her hilarious expressions in those times that she was super excited that kept me reading, and I'm glad I did!

I might have had my own issues due to personal trauma unexpectedly resurfacing, but the story was very fun, and I liked how our male lead really just rolled with things! LOL! I do have the next two volumes on preorder and am looking forward to reading more because the blooming romance is SO adorable!!

Manga can have the silliest concepts.

A college student is full of FOMO because she never got to go on a date in high school wearing her school uniform. So she puts it on for Halloween, and through a misunderstanding and wild coincidence she ends up on a date with a guy in a high school uniform.

The rest of the manga is just her getting the guy to go on pretend dates with her in different places, including an incident of trespass.

So there's a weird cosplay fetish, but weirdly no sexualization as the inevitable romantic interest pursues our heroine in a pure and chaste manner.

None of this has any appeal for me. I obviously chose too quickly and carelessly while hoping to find a cute romantic manga.

Somehow this goes on for four more volumes, but I will not be following along.

Disclosure: I received access to a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.com.

How this series will maintain its premise beyond this volume is a creative conundrum that I have to admit I find a little fascinating. It has such a specific idea and has already plumbed the depths of many tropes by the time the volume is over.

It’s a great idea though! Waka was a dork in high school and completely remade herself for university. That leads her to try and capture the moments she missed out on by wearing her high school uniform to Halloween.

At this point she bumps into Fumito, apparently a high school student, and drags him along on her attempt to experience her retroactive bucket list. Then it turns out he goes to her university and the saga of making up for lost time begins.

Fumito is a perfectly acceptable male lead for this sort of story, thoughtful and making all the right moves. But it’s Waka who raises this to the heights that it achieves; this is just shy of perfection and she is a large part of that.

Look, you can glow up all you want, but once a dork, etc… and make no mistake, Waka is a huge dork. But in the best way! Her boundless (and pure) enthusiasm for her new endeavour is positively adorable. She just throws herself into this hard.

This takes itself exactly as seriously as it needs to, which is not very. It dials itself down when Waka and Fumito’s romance vibe is waxing, but then goes for another gag shortly afterwards. This nails its mood perfectly.

One of my favourite things in shojo is good face game and this has probably the best I’ve seen since Love, That’s An Understatement. I knew we were in good hands from the first montage when Waka’s eyes bug out over some cotton candy. She will continue melting down over the entire volume.

This is a seriously fun story that gets away with a little more than a high school story, but also manages to have the same beats as those. It’s smart in that respect because it sidesteps any issues with Waka drinking beer and having sex, scenarios which are both entertained in these pages.

Genuinely, having done a regular date, after school date, festival date (this one really jabs hard at its own premise), and now an amusement park date, it’s hard to see where this can go. Also, it’s a bit weird that Waka has had multiple dates with Fumito and keeps thinking he’s not interested in her.

Still, that’s next volume’s issue, as I like to say. And I’ll certainly be here to read it. Waka is fantastic, Fumito is solid, and the two of them are a good pairing that have a strong connection. It’s not weighty, but dang if it isn’t a clever twist.

4 stars - this is probably about right for the first volume, although it’s so close to getting a far more wholehearted endorsement from me. If you are a fan of shojo this is a well-done tweak on the usual formula.

I'm feeling generous and biased towards this manga because it is basically exploiting my fantasies lol.

As a highschooler I was too introverted and sheltered to ever go out with a guy or even my friends and reading this manga is letting me vicariously experience my lost youth so yeah, I'm enjoying this a lot.

That being said, the translation is a bit wonky which made it a little difficult to be completely engrossed. Otherwise though, this is really sweet, fun, lighthearted manga.

4.5 stars. This was so sweet and cute. I really liked it. It felt both fresh and familiar at the same time. The heroine makes great faces. The artist is good at finding moments to highlight with humor.

Thank you Kodansha for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Review & rating to be adjusted once series complete.

This was not on my radar at all and I'm really glad I stumbled across the eARC (volume 1) because oh my goodness this is one of the cutest and most entertaining shoujo manga I have read in a long time. College student Wakana feels regret over missed experience during her high school years as she was just too busy with her studies. Now in her twenties, she takes the opportunity to dress up in her old high school uniform for Halloween eve, only to bump into Fumito with whom she shares an unexpected first ever high school date.

I almost want to say this is best enjoyed going in blind, though the official blurb already gives certain elements away, but it is what it is. This was such an adorable series opener and really reflects nicely on that feeling of days in our youth I'm sure we all look back to from time to time. The art is really cute and appropriately funny in the right moments. Wakana is such an adorable character - she's got a really great energy and simply fun to read about. Fumito is also a really neat character with how he encourages Wakana's unabashed excitement. This was pure, drama-free, feel good entertainment and a refreshing story that still offers many beloved shoujo tropes in its own way. Absolutely recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the free access to a Digital Copy of this manhwa in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this volume quite a bit. It wasn’t anything too complicated but I enjoyed our protagonists and their dynamic throughout this volume. There is something so satisfying about reading 2 college students wanting to relive their younger years together to experience the things they didn’t get to enjoy about their youth. The uniform became sort of like a time machine for these two and that was fun to read.

As someone who took their youthful school years for granted I appreciate a story like this in a way I feel rather seen. Feeling seen isn’t something I typically care about in a book but it was nice in this respect. I liked seeing the typical high school romance troupes but with characters that are adults. I can see me picking this series up in print and continuing it.

This was so stinking cute. It’s a little bit cozier than I’d like. There’s really no drama or much tension, but there are really sweet moments. I enjoy when they do something a little cringey and they blush ferociously like teens. 🥰

Manga | Romance | Slice of Life

Thank you to Kodansha Comics for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Hitting Rewind With You, Vol. 1 opens with a line that perfectly frames its premise: there are two kinds of people in the world, those who went on dates in their school uniforms, and those who didn’t.

(This is a japanese story, so most students in school wear uniforms unlike not always in USA, but even tho school uniforms is important to the plot it just represents a previous time in life.)

The narrative flashes forward to the female lead in her 20s whose in college, now more attractive appearing than her nerdy high school self. On a whim, she decides to wear her high school uniform for Halloween, which sets the story in motion. What initially feels risky and uncomfortable, especially when she attracts the wrong kind of attention, quickly shifts when a kind, attractive young man intervenes and helps her out. She impulsively asks him to spend the day with her, hoping to recreate the high school memories she never had.

At first, the setup can feel questionable, and I’ll be honest, this is a story you have to read fully before judging.

The reveal in the story is crucial, and once that happens tension is resolved, the story becomes far easier to engage with. We get to see a couple spend slice of life days together: novelty drinks, photo booths, staged poses that feel intimate without crossing into sexualization. The male lead stands out in particular, he’s honest, respectful and caring which helps ground the story.

The art is clean and expressive, and the pacing flows naturally, allowing moments to breathe instead of rushing emotional beats. What ultimately makes this volume work is its theme: the quiet wish many people carry to redo parts of their youth, to experience moments they feel they missed. In this story, the main character gets that do-over, not to erase the past, but to add to it.

My jaw hurts because I grinned too much the whole time I'm reading this.
It's my favourite recent shoujo manga and I'm happy it got official license now.

Both of the characters are so cute, the FMC is the girl who's so immersed in her study and lose her chance to have beautiful love story in high school so she want to relieve those fantasy again, the thing she missed when she's younger and she found this guy who want to role-play with her as a high school student. I found it very cute, and you can see that the guy already interested with her from the very beginning and will follow anything she wants. Yes, he's emotionally intelligent who's not afraid to show his feeling, there's no room for her to overthink he always try to make himself clear and he's the epitome of Act of service in love language, you can see how he cares for her for the simple thing he do to her and I love that for them.

Interesting character, fresh story, and gorgeous art, I can't wait to read another volume in this manga.

Thanks Netgalley and Kodansha for the e-ARC as exchange for an honest review <3

Ahh I got to see my fav thing to do purikura (Pika Pika SF I still miss you). I don't really get second hand embarrassment but I did here. This manga is about the age old question, if I had it to do over would I? Well Wakaba is not waiting anymore. She did a glow up for college and has been putting herself out there more but she regrets all the things she missed doing in her youth. Some of it I relate to, holding yourself back cause of social anxiety or concerns about gain attention or looking uncool. Its funny that she met someone who is willing to go along with it (which I honestly is kind of questionable on both their sides). This is just very cute thus far he is helping her move through the list and maybe catching feelings, we don't really get much of what he is thinking. The art is cute too.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for this e-arc for review!

This funny rom-com starts off with our protagonist feeling like there are 2 types of people, those who dated in their school uniforms and those who haven't. She didn't and she's now 20 years old, so she decides to dress up and go out in her school uniform to embrace her youth. While some shady guys start hitting on her, a guy rescues her, also in school uniform, and for her safety they decided to enjoy the rest of the day together on a sudden date. They both tell each other that this is their first time dating and both assume each other are high school students. A cop catches them being out late and asks for student IDs and it's revealed that they are both college students dressed up as high schoolers, but after the embarrassing reveal, they decided to keep dating and it's hilarious and cute.

CW: sexual harassment

I would like to thank NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A chance encounter on Halloween night provides the opportunity two college students need to relive the high school experiences they never had to chance to have.

This was absolutely adorable! I know the premise might seem odd at first, but Hitting Rewind with You is so sweet and I think it's great that Wakaba and Fumito were able to find each other and I thought that Kira did a good job with building that initial dynamic between them as Wakaba is able to find someone that doesn't mind (and even admires) her quirks.

If you're looking for a sweet shoujo romance manga that relives the typical high school romance tropes, you might enjoy this book.

I fully feared this would be cringey but it was so cute! I loved the couple and how pure, funny, and heartwarming they were! Wakaba could've come off as cringey (as she states she is), but Fumito likes it and smiles, laughs, and blushes. It's a silly concept that was executed well when it could've left me filled with second-hand embarresment. With such great characters it's pulled off, leaving me laughing and smiling the whole time.

I now need 50 more chapters of them being adorable, with the low-drama and humor that made this such a great first volume!

Enjoyed the art (lol those faces sometimes), and thought it lent itself well to the tone of the work. No one takes things too seriously and it's a fun, sweet time with two young adults enjoying their youths, and first loves.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC!

This manga was a really cute and cheesy read! Literally was kicking my feet every time something adorable happened between them. The art was beautiful and the silly expressions they made were hilarious. At first, I was a little scared that there would be a strange age gap, but I was quickly assured that they were both the same age and they both were wearing school uniforms on Halloween (ironic right?).

Both Wakabe and Fumito were interesting characters and kept the story fun and sweet. I can't wait to see where all of this goes. If it continues on with the cute storyline, then I'm fine with that. But who knows if we'll have some trouble come up in their story. Hope to read more soon!

For those who loved reading My Love Story with Yamada-Kun at LV999, this was pretty reminiscent of that series. I give this manga a 4.5/5 stars!

This was soo soo soooooo cute. It´s a shojo manga about a college girl (20 years old) who never got to do anything really fun during her high school time, which she really regrets. So, one random day, she decides to go outside in her school uniform. She kind off has a date with a high school boy, they both tell each other that they´re high schoolers in their final year, and then PLOT TWIST: They´re both the same age and in college. They both have this want to relive their youth, so they both decide to date in a way, but in high school uniforms. Its realllllllyyy cuttee 💖💖💖
100% recommend this to any shojo fan, or romance manga lover that´s sick of the MCs being in high school

This manga was very cute and funny! Wakaba was very energetic and animated, and she reminded me a lot of Akane from My Love Story with Yamada at Lv.999. Fumito’s personality reminded me a lot of Kyo from Fruits Basket as he was very grumpy but sweet. The characters definitely fit the grumpy x sunshine trope, and it was cute seeing them experience all these dates together. I will not lie, having them be in school uniforms consistently felt a bit odd. I understood the first time they met, but it continuing throughout was surprising. Overall, a fun and quick read!

Thank you Edelweiss and Kodansha for an ARC of this manga in exchange for my review!

Wakaba Kayano decided to venture out in her old high school uniform on a lark, but then need to be rescued by a high school boy from some nasty clowns. The pair wandered around until an encounter with the curfew police revealed to each other that they were both college students. Since they had enjoyed that chance to pretend to high schoolers, they decided to keep going and ventured out to restaurants and an amusement park. And the one time they happened to meet up at a college festival, they ended up getting talked into cosplaying as high schoolers. It will be interesting to see where these quirky characters go next!

Thanks Netgalley and Kodansha for the chance to read this title.

Oh this was so cute! I was worried it was going to be a miscommunication trope drawn out for faaaaaaaaar toooooooo loooooong so I'm glad it got cleared up in the first chapter and we got to roll straight into the getting to know each other and mutual like (even if Wakaba is a little too dummy/inexperienced to realize he's sincere). The art is really cute and is a perfect style for a story like this, and it's fun to read a romance where they're adults but mutually inexperienced so they get to learn togetherrrrr I'll definitely keep up with this series!

Thank you to Kodansha for the eARC for review!

This is so stinkin cute! I really like how Wakaba is so true to herself with Fumito. When she starts to quiet down, he tells her to just be her normal excitable self and he lets her love what she loves and be who she is and do what she wants because he likes that version of her.

I definitely get wanting to live the high school experiences you didn't have with someone you trust and like. It's really sweet that Fumito allows her to do that in her own way. I cannot wait for the next volume!

Wakaba is so freaking adorable and the dynamic between her and Fumito is somehow way more down to earth than I was expecting. It's still pretty zainy (which is good, the premise implies some amount of zaininess, right) but the story feels pretty grounded and earnest. Aside from fun/cute interactions between the characters, there was also some good character study and development moments, but the story retained good pacing throughout. Anyway, I had high hopes for this one and this volume definitely exceeded them.

This was really cute. I was a little iffy in the beginning, but their real ages are revealed rather quickly. And from there, he basically just agrees to live out these fantasy dates with her. If it weren’t for her unashamed excitement over getting to experience these things, I don’t think this would work as well as it did. And I enjoyed how it seems like he’s entertaining her cheesy ideas, but also clearly having fun with it as well. There’s no shaming her for her excitement or how little she experienced when she was in school.

ARC Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet rom-com with characters balancing what they have with what they feel they missed out on. I also am soo pleased it's college age MCs.

I adore how the direction this is going and how the two main characters interact. The art adds so much to this adorable atmosphere.

This starting premise was fun and entertaining and I am hoping it moves smoothly into a focus on their current lives in the next volumes.

This is so cute and romantic. It gave me flutters like shoujo manga do! The premise was so charming and I loved the moment they found out they were the same age. And then decided to keep spending time together. It's so youthful and sweet. College kids can have high school experiences too! I also liked how they both bonded over missing out on the usual high school experience. And how Fumito is happy to go with whatever Waka wants to do. The blushing moments were just so cute!

Firstly, I would like to thank both Kodansha and the author for providing me this review copy.

So far, it's a good start and I'm looking forward to what happens next. It's a bit of a switch up from the standard school romcom where it occurs in high school but in college. Despite being shoujo manga I found it quite enjoyable and the volume itself is a bit wholesome despite the pacing being a bit slow.
