𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗞 Delivery driver Leonora’s structured life is upended by the murder of a regular customer.
𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 This is the 5th audiobook I’ve listened to from this narrator and I like her very much. Her vibe is a strong, confident woman which was perfect for this story.
𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 This dual POV murder mystery was so my jam. I immediately loved neurodivergent Leonora and connected with her vibe instantly. Detective Roarke was a cool middle aged cop that was actually good at her job. In fact all the women were layered, likable women.
I loved that we could guess whodunit and how (I didn’t!) but the ending disappointed me. I really wish there had been an epilogue because I crave a closed ending. Otherwise this would have been an all the stars read for me!
𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗? Loved this story and the characters - definitely tempted to check out this authors backlog.
Thank you Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for this #gifted ARC.

such a fun short story! this was a thriller/mystery about a delivery driver who stumbles across a crime scene while on her normal route. since it is so short, it was extremely fast paced and we didn’t spend time on anything that wasn’t integral to the story. somehow in that short time, lauren oliver managed to build a main character that was likable, but also peculiar in a slightly unsettling way that made the outcome of the story questionable. in the span of 30 minutes, i went back and forth on what i thought would happen at the end many times. if you like thrillers and need something short and sweet, this is a great one to pick up! this is part of an amazon originals collection of short thriller stories, and i will definitely be adding the rest of this collection to my tbr as i love the idea of a short story in this genre! i listened to the audiobook version, and the narration was extremely clear and easy to listen to. highly recommend!

🎧 Audio Review: Narration was good, no complaints.
📝 Story Review: This is a very short story at 22 mins (39 pages), so I wasn’t expecting it to be super in depth… and it wasn’t. Overall not bad for a short story, but my issue was that there was not enough closure at the end. Like, were they able to get evidence to actually convict the killer? 🤷🏼♀️ No idea and that type of ending kinda bugs me. Also, it really was not hard to figure out the ‘who dunnit’ part.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
Vibes: Fast paced little mystery.

Creative. Very, very creative. This short story begins when a delivery driver goes to drop off a package at the home of customer she has grown friendly and comfortable with. The delivery turns into anything but your average everyday drop off when the courier finds the woman dead in her living room, with the victim's nephew seemingly unaware upstairs. Once the investigation begins, it becomes a bit of he said she said with the courier blaming the nephew and vice versa.
The outcome of this book is where the uniqueness and creativity shined. You are pushed in the direction of a particular character being the culprit but how the murder played out and the way in which the murder weapon itself became a key component in the story was brilliant. A very good book from a YA author who may have found her calling in the thriller world.
It can be difficult to write a good short story but this one was fantastic. It was really well written, keeping the mystery till the end and the audiobook narration was superb.
I was completely pulled in from first second. I love stories about neighborhood secrets and this one truly delivered. It was very entertaining and twisty. I didn't see that ending coming at all! What an ending it was just the perfect conclusion to this story.
I can't wait to read the rest of stories in this collection.
Thank you Netgalley and Brilliance Publishing for an ALC of this story, all opinions are my own.
For being a very short novella, I actually really loved this audiobook.
It was quick and straight to the point but very satisfying. You get multiple POVs, so even with the fast pacing you feel like you’ve read a lot more than you have.
And the audiobook narration was excellent!

Read Completed 3/20/26 | 3.25 stars | Book #60 of 2026
I was excited to read something from Lauren Oliver! I've barely read her books since my Delirium obsessions of the 2010s. This was so short, but enjoyable. It's hard to really give these short stories a rating because there's so little time to get a grip on everything. I did like her characters and the plot was actually really unique and interesting. It was a fun concept for a short story, but now that it's over, I'm not really feeling a lot of connection to it.
A Fatal Delivery by Lauren Oliver struggles to build momentum. The narrative starts off quite slow, taking too long to hook the reader. While it did deliver a good, unique twist, the rest of the execution is rather boring. There simply isn't enough of interest going on to keep you fully engaged, even within such a brief page count. Ultimately, it’s a memorable twist buried in an otherwise forgettable story.
A Fatal Delivery is a tense, character‑focused mystery where Lauren Oliver lets the unease build slowly, turning ordinary moments into something quietly threatening. The simple setup of a delivery gone wrong becomes far more compelling because of how carefully she draws her characters and the emotional weight behind their choices. She keeps the reveal right until the end, and it works because every clue is placed with intention. Listening to the audiobook added an extra layer of suspense.
Sharp, unsettling, and impossible to put down. Lauren Oliver took something that feels simple on the surface and twisted it into something much darker and more layered than I expected.
The pacing is tight, the tension builds perfectly, and the ending? It lands. No wasted space, no fluff, just a clean, gripping story that leaves you thinking after it’s over.
If you love quick reads that still pack a punch, this one absolutely delivers. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This short story (which I listened to on audio) was fairly simple, and there wasn’t a whole lot of detective work. The bulk of the story is a character sketch of a delivery person and her distinctive personality and adherence to routines, which plays a part in how the crime is solved. I found the ending clever, and the narration was done well.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the opportunity to listen to this ALC and share my honest feedback!
I read a lot of Lauren Oliver in my late teens, so I was super excited to see a mystery short story by her. I was slightly skeptical because I've only read her YA titles, but I was pleasantly surprised! This was really enjoyable, and I loved the multiple POV's, which can be rare in such a short story. I loved the creative twist and hope to see more mysteries from her! Thank you to NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing, and Amazon Short Stories for the audio ARC!
Despite the length of this novella, it had everything needed for a great mystery: a crime that makes you wonder, a suspect you know did it but you have no proof, and the perfect way to get rid of a murder weapon. This was so creative and I really enjoyed the way everything was presented, with a pace fast enough to keep you guessing but not too fast that you felt lost. I just wish it was a little bit longer.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the review copy.
I immediately need more! this was so good. It grabbed ahold quickly, made us like the quirky delivery driver and the cop, gave us the bad guy, and made us question how he did it. To stop where it did is almost a crime! I don't believe I have read anything from Lauren Oliver before, but you can believe I'm gonna start now. Wonder audio novella.
thank you to NetGalley, Lauren Oliver, and Brilliance Publishing for my ARC of this audiobook.
Short story writing is an art, and Lauren Oliver pulls it off beautifully! I was fully invested the whole time. I can't wait to see the rest of this collection. I think high school and adults are both appropriate audiences for this book. I did listen to the audio version, and it was really well-narrated as well.
A Fatal Delivery is a good quick read, quite thrilling and enjoyable. The plot is great and the characters were likable. I'm just not a fan of endings like the one in this book, but I understand only but so much can be done in 39 pages. Thank you NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing, Amazon, and Lauren Oliver.
This was an excellent short story! It was gripping and intense with tight pacing and very intentional writing, it got straight to the point. The narrator really made me feel the tension of this story. Short but impactful!
I liked it. It's not easy to write compelling and lively characters on such a short story, but the delivery woman Lenora (on the spectrum, I presume?) with an eye for subtle changes is a little gem of a protagonist.
This was my first Lauren Oliver book, so I went in not knowing what to expect. I understand it was meant to be a short story, but it felt a bit underdeveloped. The premise was clever and had a lot of potential, but the killer was way too easy to figure out, which took away from the suspense.
If you thought you could plan the perfect murder would you? A delivery driver gets sucked into a murder mystery when one of her regulars is found dead. And she finds her! Good, easy quick read!
3.75 Audiobook. Thank you to NetGalley and Lauren Oliver for this ARC. I liked the narrator and the story was fine just very short. I love this author.
