This is my first time ever reviewing a cookbook. It came at a perfect time where I had time to try new recipes.

With my other half being a chef, it was great to see how these measured up in his eyes I tried two different recipes out of the book.

The hearty beef barley stew. Now I couldn’t find barley, and I wasn’t really disappointed about that to be honest with you, it’s not one of my favourite things, but my partner advised I could sub substitute with lentils which we had. He was shocked that we didn’t need to see her off the meat and dusted it with flour first, but he absolutely loved it, as did I. It’s the first beef stew. I’ve actually liked because it doesn’t taste like gravy. Recipe is very easy to follow., I just screenshot it on my phone and enlarged it so I could read it.

The other one we tried was the chicken fajitas. Now I doubled the recipe but messed up on the seasoning portion of it. I had a packet here from a kit that I put in which was not enough seasoning and I couldn’t find a conversion based on the amount of grams in the packet versus what it called for in the recipe. And I definitely should not have doubled the lime juice. It made it too liquidy.

For somebody who needs to follow a recipe to the letter, these are fail safe recipes. The only thing I would change is putting the ingredients listed in the order they’re going to go in and I would’ve put in a picture of what it looked like in the crockpot because I’m one of those people who panic and think I’m doing it wrong. But that’s just a personal preference doesn’t take away from all the great things in the book. I love that it has a variety of things so you can cover, vegetarian or meat eating people.

He would like me to make both again so, it’s not just a thumbs up from a normal cook, but a chef as well!

We were definitely able to set it and forget it with this cookbook.

Just to note, I made all of the recipes I tested in our instant pot on the slow cooker setting. they DID NOT work for us, but this did not reflect my star rating.

My family and I tested 3 dinner recipes. Tuscan Chicken, Split pea soup, and Tuscan Beef Ragu, with each one we were able to dump them and go. The meal prep was reasonable, the recipes were easy to read and understand. With the prep time and ingredients easily laid out.

What I didn't like was that in some recipes the ingredients were not listed in the order that you used them. I typically find that is how recipes are made, and that is in what order I prep my ingredients. We also found that most dinner recipes were 6 hours maximum cook time which didn't work for us as we don't work from home and work 8 hours, but we understand this was a personal preference.

Keeping in mind that I do not recommend trying these in instant pot slow cooker mode, we found that the dinners were one note; they tasted like individual ingredients and not a whole recipe with integrated tastes. it is true you could 'set it and forget it' but it felt like something was missing. I.E. In the beef ragu, you browned the beef beforehand but the onion still tastes strong and not unified at the end. I think it would have helped to browned the beef and onion together, to meld the flavors. Additionally, all the pictures of the dishes seemed one note and looked all the same.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This cookbook is a delight from start to finish. It’s beautifully laid out, with colourful illustrations and thoughtful design touches that make it feel wonderfully cosy and inviting. The format is clear and easy to follow, and I love that every recipe includes a photograph so you know exactly what the finished dish should look like.

I’ve already made two recipes and have just picked up the ingredients for a third. One featured barley and another quinoa—two ingredients I don’t often cook with, but they’re affordable, easy to find, and simple to store. The recipes are straightforward, use accessible ingredients, and result in hearty, wholesome yummy meals!

As someone who works full time and wanted to make better use of my slow cooker, this book has been instrumental. Many of the recipes are also easy to tailor to your tastes—I’ve added extra vegetables or swapped ingredients with great results.
A practical, inspiring addition to any busy kitchen!

I received this book courtesy of Booksprout for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Overview: It's to be a busy day. Are you limited to picking something up from the drive through? Mrs. Welson doesn't think so. This book boasts over a hundred recipes for slow-cooker meals. Will they work? Let's find out.

Dislikes: Beans don't really agree with me, so many of the plant-based recipes won't work for me.

Likes: We get cooking tips, and some breakfasts that you would normally associate with stove-top cooking.

We get desserts, breakfasts, and even holiday cooking in this book.

Conclusion: This is a great book. If you need a cookbook for your slow-cooker, then this book is for you. Enjoy the read.

This book is exactly what I've been looking for. Easy to follow recipes for complete meals that you can just dump in a pot and come back hours later with your meal finished. As a busy working mom being able to throw everything into the slow cooker, leave for work, and come back to dinner being done is amazing. No complicated steps, no piles of dishes, just easy delicious food. Love it!

Note for those who are gluten free: Gluten free noodles do NOT hold up being slow cooked that long and turn to paste. Just keep them out and cook separately right before eating. Easy enough and still delicious.

This is an excellent slow cooker cookbook and easily one of the most practical ones I’ve used. It’s absolutely ideal for anyone who feels a bit lazy in the kitchen or is simply very busy.

Most recipes really are “dump and go” — you spend just a few minutes putting everything into the slow cooker, then leave it to do its thing for a few hours without any further attention. The result is a delicious, homemade meal that looks and tastes like you put in far more effort than you actually did.

I also really appreciate that the ingredients are all very common and easy to find. There’s nothing obscure or difficult to source, which makes this book genuinely usable for everyday cooking.

Every recipe comes with a clear photo, which I always find helpful and inspiring, and the final presentation of the book is lovely. It’s well organised, easy to navigate, and a pleasure to use.

A fantastic cookbook for stress-free cooking — highly recommended.

As a busy mom I need easy quick meals. Dump and go meals are my go to. This book has so many recipes we haven’t put a dent in it yet. I’m glad what we have tried so far my picky toddler likes! The pulled pork sandwiches is her most favorite and the apple cinnamon oats. I’ll definitely continue to use this. Next on the list is beef barely stew perfect for this winter weather. Thank you to the author for allowing me to have a copy for a honest review!

As a constantly busy woman juggling work, family, and everything else, I’ve tried so many “easy” cookbooks that still left me stressed and scrubbing dishes late at night. Set It and Forget It Slow Cooker Plan by Hannah Welson genuinely feels like it was written for someone like me.

This is not just a slow cooker recipe book. It is a full, real life system. The 120 plus dump and go recipes are actually easy. Minimal prep, pantry staples, no hovering over the stove. You throw it all in, walk away, and dinner is just done. The food is cozy and comforting too. Hearty stews, creamy pastas, tender meats, plus breakfasts and snacks the whole family will eat.

The 28 day meal guide is what really sold me. It feels supportive, not restrictive, with balanced meals and weekend treats built in. The extra tips on pantry stocking, batch prep, leftovers, and swaps make it flexible enough for real life.

Every recipe I have tried has been a hit. Flavorful without being fussy, comforting without feeling boring, and great for leftovers. Even my partner, who usually complains about slow cooker meals, now asks when the next one is happening. Weeknight dinners feel calmer and honestly a bit luxurious.

If you are tired, short on time, or just want home cooked meals without the chaos, this book is gold. Hannah Welson truly gets busy women. I have already recommended it to everyone I know.

Thank you Hannah for this copy. All parts of this review are of my honest opinion 💚

Have you ever had a day where you're just struggling to figure out a meal? I know I have almost on a daily basis (thanks to picky toddlers) 😂 But thankfully, Set It and Forget It has some amazing meals and a meal plan (even a shopping list) to help lift some of the stress that goes with planning food.

The entire format of this book is user-friendly and works wonderfully when propped up to make a recipe. It truly makes it easy to use and with it being so organized, you should have no trouble seeing ingredients, directions, or anything other information. I also loved how clear the images were. It makes it so much easier for someone to find the recipe they are wanting if they go by visuals.

I truly believe this should be in every busy person's kitchen. It has the opportunity to shave so much time off of your day so you can spend more time with family or just use that extra time to focus on your mental health. So go check it out 💞

P.S. My husband already has a few picked out that he wants to try so it's for sure a win 💝

This cookbook completely exceeded my expectations. I knew I’d find cozy crockpot recipes for easy lunches and dinners, but I was thrilled to see so many breakfast and dessert options too. I use my crockpot all the time, so discovering those less‑conventional recipes honestly made my day. I can’t wait to start cooking my way through them.

The layout is incredibly user‑friendly — each recipe is presented like a recipe card, with clear ingredients, step‑by‑step directions, nutrition information, and a photo. I also loved the “Did You Know?” sections that highlight the benefits of key ingredients. It’s such a thoughtful touch.

It also had tons of tips and information for troubleshooting or just new to the ways of crock pot cooking.

The book is organized into categories that make perfect sense, and the weekly meal plan and shopping list make planning effortless. Truly, this cookbook deserves a spot in every busy person’s kitchen.
