You don’t just read this - You’re there.
What makes this book stand out is how completely it pulls you in. You feel like you step foot into boot camp with the author and stay beside him all the way until he returns home to the States. You’re invested — you come to love his brothers, rely on the good leaders, and resent the bad ones. You feel him fall in-love and you run off the train with him to welcome his son into the world. You experience of the grief of deployment having to leave them behind. Experience the shenanigans and laughter that bonded them and helped them cope and the anxiety and exhaustion that grew on each patrol as the realities of war set in. 5 isn’t enough. This book gets 10 stars! I couldn’t put it down.

Great Story
I love reading books about GWOT. Jason’s approach is relatable and entertaining. A good example of what being a soldier is like both in garrison and deployed. He captures well the day to day drama that takes place in any organization while mixing in the excitement of legitimate war stories. Well done!
