A book that improves as it progresses. Initially I was nonplussed by these sympathetic accounts of unexplained disappearances. Mental health issues, dysfunctional relationships and neglect were the common threads that made these disappearances sadly explicable. What was particularly troubling was the inability of the families left behind to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones, seemingly quick to find fault with the attempts of authorities to track down the missing whilst glossing over the factors that led to their disappearance in the first place. Later accounts were better written and more intriguing involving fishing vessels and aeroplanes vanishing into thin air. What started off as a depressing litany of psychological and social breakdown developed into something genuinely mysterious.
Another heartbreaking but real book from Matthew. The cases are handled delicately and some include ways to get in touch with local forces if you have information. I love how respectful Matthew always is with the cases he includes!
