I began writing the @sex.in.the.Glasgow.city blogs in 2019 from my Instagram handle. The views shot up quickly and I was encouraged to write a book from my followers. During lockdown having more time than I normally have I began writing ‘A Glasgow Kiss’.
A Glasgow Kiss is about a young woman approaching thirty feeling pressured to settle down. She is single and joins an online dating site to find Mr right- however, her life suddenly spirals out of control.
“It’s our stars and stripes, baby, and we’re proud of them!”
Following on from The Dicktionary Club, Ella, Zola and Katy are back, and this time they’re taking things across the pond. After being asked to collaborate with American company Flirtify, the trio head to America to help bring their website into app form, while also navigating the absolute chaos of the American dating scene. And honestly, I absolutely loved being back with this Scottish trio.
The story follows all three women as they juggle the Flirtify opportunity alongside their own messy personal lives. Katy is still single and trying to find the one, Zola and Curtis seem to be stuck in a rut, and Ella is beginning to feel like she’s losing herself, especially when Philip doesn’t support her plans for expanding the app in America.
The friendship between Ella, Zola and Katy is easily one of my favourite parts of this series. Their banter, loyalty and support for each other is brilliant, and the sitcom/Sex and the City vibes are strong in the best possible way. It’s fast-paced, hilarious, refreshing and completely engrossing.
That being said, the language and descriptions are still very explicit, but if you’ve read book one, you already know what you’re walking into. The sex scenes are descriptive, sometimes shocking, and at times genuinely hilarious. Katy especially had me wanting to shake her and say, girl, please slow down. Honestly, I need a third book just so I can see her settle down.
Some of the plot reveals were predictable, but it didn’t take away from how much fun I was having. I was fully along for the ride, even if my heart wanted a few more consequences for certain characters who wronged the golden trio.
I did struggle slightly with how often the C-word was used, but after speaking to Scottish friends, I understand that this is very much part of the humour and communication style for some people, and with the author being Scottish, it feels like her voice naturally filters through the page.
Overall, this was fast-paced, feel-good, chaotic and full of friendship, found family, romance, heartbreak, betrayal, miscommunication, mishaps and absolute madness.
A hilarious and sexy sequel with big friendship energy and plenty of chaos.
Firstly, I absolutely love Sophie Gravia’s books. I have read them all so I was really looking forward to reading this ARC!
I did enjoy the whole aspect of the girls going to New York as it was something different. However, I felt that throughout the book there was a lot of repetition and going in circles. E.g. it mentioned Gossip Girl a lot of times and to me, it felt like with the mystery storyline of this book, it was based off of Gossip Girl.
I know books are often unrealistic but how do we always have the FMC (explained as having no money, not much going on apart from this business/app) getting in with not one, but two extremely wealthy business owners. Katy is just annoying, constantly being portrayed like she has absolutely no common sense (the razor incident), falling for guys two seconds after seeing them. The continuous “we need to go home” over and over again. The app was obviously the main reason for the trip but felt it was brought up but also brushed over and took a back seat to everything else going on in the book. I just felt the mystery storyline was added just to beef up the book and put a twist in it. The chopping and changing of people together, people cheating, they’re back together just seemed to be repetitive. Some of the chapters (Katy and “12 inch guy”…) why? It seemed like it was added just to make up words. Multiple random “by-chance” meetings as if New York isn’t huge! (I know one of them was explained).
I do feel bad, because like I say I do usually love Sophie’s books but I just really could not get in to this one.
Thank you to Sophie Gravia, Bonnier Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Ahhhhh! I absolutely loved this so, so, SO much. I devoured it in one sitting.
The adventures of Ella, Katy, and Zola… and what adventures they are. Lies, deceit, betrayal, mystery, sex, laughter, tears, joy, d*ck, and everything in between.
This book had me HOWLING. Genuinely, I don’t think there was a single chapter where I didn’t laugh. It flowed so effortlessly too. I highlighted an embarrassing amount of this book. SO much to highlight.
The only thing I struggled with was the insta-love trope, but that’s fully a me problem, not a Sophie problem. I know it technically spans a couple of weeks, but it still felt a little too fast for me personally. That’s literally my only criticism.
Everything else? Chef’s kiss. Easy five stars.
Spice, humour, mystery, drama, chaos, friendship, and whodunnit vibes all wrapped together perfectly. I loved getting all three girls’ POVs too. And Zola? Oh, I absolutely adore her. She deserves the entire world.
Also, I need book 3 immediately. No pressure, Sophie… but also, maybe a little pressure. Respectfully.
The Dictionary Club + Stars and Swipes are such addictive comfort reads. Fun, easy to binge, but still packed with enough emotion and drama to make them memorable. I loved that balance.
And the mystery?? Your girl reads far too many thrillers, so I did figure it out… BUT it still had that “oh shit” reveal factor when everything came out.
Also BRITNEY. Can we maybe just… erase her from existence? Poof. Gone. Dust in the wind. Thanks so much.
Stars and Swipes by Sophie Gravia is the follow-up to The Dicktionary Club.
Gravia creates realistic, well-thought-out characters and engaging, laugh-out-loud moments.
As someone who had not read The Dicktionary Club I do feel that reading that book prior to this one would be an asset, though not a necessity, as it would’ve provided a bit more backstory for each of the characters. Overall, though, this was a really fun quick summer read.
Book Overview:
A brand new, laugh-out-loud sequel to the bestselling The Dicktionary Club, where the girls take New York by storm, from the ultimate queen of holiday reads, Sophie Gravia.
The Dicktionary Club girls are back...and seeking American members.
Ella, Katy, and Zola are beside themselves when they are offered the opportunity to launch their now infamous dating website, The Dicktionary Club, stateside. The headlines covering their technological (mis)adventures have caught the eye of a Manhattan entrepreneur - and he wants the three besties to collaborate with him on a similar app for the American market.
With their love lives imploding back home, the girls are ready to escape the Glasgow dating scene and live their Gossip Girl fantasies in New York, but their romantic problems are not so easy to run away from. A bigger city, bigger apartments, a bigger dating pool - but it turns out, not everything is bigger in America... Secrets spill. Lines blur. And in a city built on ambition and attraction, someone is always watching.
Because in New York, love is a game. And everyone is playing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review of Stars and Swipes by Sophie Gravia
I absolutely loved Stars and Swipes by Sophie Gravia. As a follow-on from Dicktionary Club, it was brilliant to catch up with the girls again and see that their friendship group remained as strong, loyal, and hilarious as ever.
This time, the girls take on America as they try to launch their app overseas, but nothing comes easy. From heartbreak and relationship drama to sabotage and endless obstacles, there always seems to be something standing in their way. All they want is to find success, find love, and enjoy life—but can they ever catch a break?
One of my favourite things about Sophie Gravia's writing is how authentic the characters feel. The Scottish humour and accent shine through on every page, adding so much personality and charm to the story. It makes the characters feel real and relatable, and often had me laughing out loud.
The mix of friendship, romance, ambition, and chaos kept me hooked throughout. While there are plenty of emotional moments, the book never loses the warmth and humour that made me fall in love with these characters in the first place.
If you enjoyed Dicktionary Club, Stars and Swipes is a fantastic continuation of the story. It's funny, heartfelt, full of drama, and a wonderful celebration of friendship. I couldn't put it down and would highly recommend it.
Our Scottish trio Ella, Zola and Katy are given the opportunity to launch The Dicktionary Club state side, with NYC based company Flirtify. Whilst their first venture on home turf gained some pretty negative media attention, it also caught the eye of the CEO of Flirtify who wanted them to turn the concept into an app. The girls pack a suitcase and move over to NYC where chaos, once again, finds them.
I love these girls so much. The relationship between the three of them continues to be one of the best parts of these books. I really enjoyed The Dicktionary Club and was so excited to have the opportunity of reading Stars and Swipes early. Katy is genuinely hilarious. She brings such a fun energy amongst the chaos. Will we see her settle down in a third book? I adoreeeeed seeing Zola and Ethan get closer as the book progressed. Ethan was such a great character to add into this book. I still love Ella. Such a strong woman and I loved her personal development throughout this book.
The plot had me laughing at points and beyond angry at other points. I loved the mystery element of this book. It added a different dynamic to the romance plot lines. You knew something was going to go wrong but just didn’t know how and why.
I loved every minute of this book, and truly hope the series continues. Thank you again to Zaffre for the proof 🫶🏻
Ahhhh this book is like a warm hug - the kind of hug you want when you feel lonely or missing your besties. It’s so hilarious and packed full of fun and banter!
What a sequel from The Dicktionary Club! Loved every minute of reading this. The girls Ella, Zola and Katy get an offer from a dating app company Flirtify to transform their Dicktionary club into a dating app in America. The Glaswegians are going international!
We had more fun, more banter and more twists - that I wasn’t expecting! New characters emerging into the story and from an insider perspective from a multi million pound company. I have to say my favourite character was Ethan - literally loved that IQ obsessed man and laughed so much at his geeky bluntness.
I loved how different but also the same this book was following the first, we knew the overall theme but somehow Sophie wrote it even better than the first. The only niggle I had was that the indecisiveness of Ella had me a little agitated, but also completely understood why - I did feel so much empathy for her character as it felt like she took the brunt of it.
You need to add this to your TBR, this is the summer romance of the year!
Thank you so much Zaffre for the EARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Girls, assemble! Because Stars & Swipes is going to be the book club read of the summer!
Sophie Gravia has absolutely done it again — this book was such a fun, chaotic, laugh-out-loud read from start to finish. The story follows The Dicktionary Club girls Ella, Zola, and Katy as they navigate friendship, more dating drama, and the excitement/madness of launching an American dating app, and honestly, I was hooked the entire time!
The concept of Stars & Swipes is genius, and watching everything unfold while they try to get the app up and running had me stressed, laughing, and fully invested!! The friendship between the girls is what really makes this book shine though — it feels so real, supportive, messy, and hilarious all at once.
Katy had me crying with laughter throughout, and the mix of humour, drama, romance, and chaos made this impossible to put down. Sophie Gravia has such a talent for creating characters that feel like your actual friends!
If you love fast-paced contemporary fiction packed with friendship, romance, and plenty of laughs, you need to add this to your summer TBR immediately!!
Just finished Stars and Swipes by Sophie Gravia and honestly, what a read.
Ella, Katy and Zola causing absolute chaos in New York was everything I wanted. It’s got the same brilliant Glasgow banter, dating disasters and spicy scenes that made me love the first book, but this one also adds a bit of mystery which worked so well.
The New York setting gives proper Gossip Girl vibes, except funnier, messier and far more chaotic. Bigger city, bigger drama and somehow even worse dating decisions.
One of my favourite things about Sophie’s books is how real the friendships feel. The girls are all completely different but so believable, and you end up attached to every one of them. Also, every woman needs a Jimmy in their life. That’s all I’m saying.
It’s funny, wild, emotional in parts and ridiculously easy to fly through. If Sophie Gravia writes it, I’ll read it.
Perfect summer read if you love Scottish humour, female friendships, dating chaos, spice and a story that genuinely makes you laugh out loud.
🇺🇸 New York setting 👯♀️ Female friendship 💋 Dating drama 😂 Laugh out loud moments ✨ Big city chaos 💔 Love lives in crisis
Review: Sophie Gravia just knows how to write women being funny, messy and dramatic without making them feel ridiculous.
This felt like a group chat came to life and got itself into trouble abroad. The most perfect sequel to the much loved Dicktionary Book Club. The humour was bold, the friendships were warm, and the whole thing was so easy to read.
I love when a romcom knows exactly what it is and fully commits. This was fun without feeling empty, silly without feeling stupid, and heartfelt without suddenly turning into a therapy session in paperback form.
I laughed, I cringed, I gasped, I held my breath, I swooned, I rooted for them, and I could picture the whole thing playing out like a Netflix series. Can we please have these girls on our screens? - I’d like to formally invite myself to the red carpet premier 😍🫶
Final verdict: Funny, flirty and full of personality. I had an absolute ball with this.
Okay, my first ever ARC and I’m so so happy it got to be a Sophie Gravia book! 🫶🏼 Stars and Swipes is going to be the perfect summer read! Imagine you’re on holiday, lay by the pool, sunglasses on, unlimited cocktails while you live the American Dream through Ella, Zola & Katy. 🇺🇸
Stars and Swipes follows on perfectly from The Dicktionary Club, following the girls on their journey to change the dating game across the pond.
All 3 of the FMC had their own storyline and I was genuinely invested in where this would take them. I found myself staying up just to read the next chapter (and it’s never just one more chapter). 📖 Especially with some added mystery in the storyline, it definitely made it hard to put down.
This book had me literally laughing out loud at points and, being a Glasgow girl, I love the references throughout. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed about Sophie’s books.
Sophie has done it again! Stars and Swipes is another amazingly hilarious book. I loved every minute of reading this book and actually couldn’t put it down.
Stars and Swipes felt like such a comfort read and it was so much fun getting to read about Ella, Katy and Zola’s New York adventure. As expected there is more drama in this book and I loved every bit of it. I couldn’t stop laughing and couldn’t wait to see what was gonna happen in this book.
Stars and Swipes see Ella, Katy and Zola head off to New York after they get an offer from a dating app company called Flirtify to transform the Dicktionary Club into a dating app in America. There are new characters in this book, more fun, hilarious banter and a few twists that keep you on your toes.
Girls, this is definitely gonna be your Summer read!
Ladies and Gentlemen, your captain has switched on the fasten seatbelt sign. WE'RE GOING TO NYC.
Sophie Gravia, summer read QUEEN, is one of my auto-buy authors and I was so happy to get the chance to review an ARC of her latest addition. She has done it again.
Jumping back in to the life of the Glasgow girls running the Dicktionary Club, Katy, Ella and Zola, was so easy. It was like picking up right where we left off. Their personalities were very memorable and carried through in Stars and Stripes as well.
Every single character was written so perfectly. This book is jam packed with laugh out loud moments and has a sprinkling of soppy shit that brought a tear to my eye.
I went in to this one a little skeptical because I didn't absolutely love the Dicktionary Club but WOW.
I am such a fan of Sophie Gravia so when I heard about her new book, it was a no brainer I’d do my very best to get my hands on an ARC.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Bonnier Books for the ARC.
I enjoyed this book but not as much as her others, particularly The Dicktionary Club. This felt a little chaotic, predictable and at times, I felt the language to be very cheesy and young.
I loved following the girls’ adventure to USA to launch their new app after the success of TDC.
The book was Gravia’s typical Scottish humour, smutty and filthy - in all the best ways.
The chaotic-ness of the characters just threw me a bit, I wanted more from them - a little more mature and grown up.
Nevertheless, I loved following Ella, Zola and Katy and seeing them succeed.
The Dicktionary club has been one of my best reads to date and this sequel was everything I wanted and more.
Being back with the girls Ella, Katy and Zola was just everything! From Glasgow to New York these girls were once again sensational to read!
These books are absolutely 𝙃𝙄𝙇𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙊𝙐𝙎… pure unrestrained ugly laughter was had throughout. They are 𝙎𝙊 relatable in so many bloody ways! Devoured in 24 hours 🤌🏻
I loved the changes in POV. Each of these girls deserve the absolute world!
I loved the little whodunnit mystery twist in this one it kept me guessing until the end 👀🤯
I need the next book yesterday 100% the best rom coms’ 💙🍆
Thank you so so much to Zaffre for my proof copy I have enjoyed every second of this book 🤭
This was HILARIOUS! It felt like I was there with my friends Ella, Katy & Zola. I found myself cheering the girls on, gettins sad and laughing out loud at certain scenes. The relationship between the 3 girls is a relationship that every girl should have, the way they love and support each other is so refreshing. I never liked Phillip and how he treated Ella, even in the first book, there were just too many red flags I could not ignore and some of her decisions in the book were not ideal but at the end of the day, we're all girls and need to discover these things for ourselves. I was HOWLING with laughter at the razor scene!! I'm glad how things went with Zola towards the end, because it almost seemed like it was going to go another way, which I wouldn't have loved.
Massive fan of Sophie Gravia’s books and this follow on from The Dicktionary Club is no exception. The girls are off to New York and shenanigans unfold as they try to launch stateside.
Stars and Swipes was exactly the kind of chaotic, funny, character-led read I wanted it to be.
The characters felt instantly relatable, the humour landed, and the whole thing had that very specific messy modern dating energy that makes it both easy to fly through and genuinely entertaining. It’s sharp, funny, and self-aware in a way that feels very grounded rather than trying too hard.
Throw in a little mystery, the book keeps you guessing making it even more of a page turner.
I knew from the first few pages I was going to love this. Sophie Gravia just has a way of making you laugh while also calling you out at the same time.
Having Ella back with Katy and Zola honestly made the whole thing, their friendship feels so real, chaotic and supportive all at once. The dating disasters, the highs, the questionable decisions… it feels like I’m reading about myself.
And taking it to New York? Obsessed. It just adds that extra level of fun and escapism, everything feels bigger, messier and just more dramatic in the best way.
It’s such an easy, bingeable read but this time with mystery!! And yes I guessed it right!
Funny, honest and a bit feral at times, exactly what I want from Sophie Gravia. Perfect summer read. Hurry up and write the next Sophie ❤️
The Queen of Glasgow has gone state side with her new book 🗽 and she did not disappoint 😍😍
Stars and Swipes is a follow on from @sophie.gravia_author last book Dicktionary where 3 friends from Glasgow (remember Zola is not scottish 🤣) make their own dating App and now they are heading to the big apple to get it launched, but in true Glasgow style the drama follows them.
I was hooked from the very start like I was with all of sophies books, I laughed all the way through and was locked in when it got steamy 🥵🍆🥵 i don't think ill ever look at Temu again (if you know you know 🤣)
I can't wait to see what Sophie brings out next as I know she will not disappoint 🫶🏼🩷
Thank you @netgalley for gifting me a early copy in return for a review. .
I’m a huge fan of Sophie Gravia and have read all of her books. This one was no exception! The queen of summer and holiday reads, Stars and Swipes gives you all the laughs, cries and cringes that you would expect from Sophie Gravia and is very relatable!
I enjoyed how this picked up right where The Dicktionary Club left off and wasn’t just a repeat of the same storyline. I did predict the ‘twist’ at the end but I am an avid thriller/mystery reader! I felt the ending was a little abrupt and I could’ve done with another few chapters but maybe that was intentional (book 3?? 👀).
This is another perfect summer read for those who love laughs, friendships, Scottish banter, chaos and some spice 🌶️
Thanks to NetGalley, Bonnier Books UK and Zaffre for this ARC.
Sophie Gravia’s books were some of the first romance books I read when I got back into reading and her writing style is as funny as ever! I hadn’t read the Dicktionary Club going into this so wasn’t sure if I would be confused but although it was a continuation, I could still fully follow the story! The plot of the story was really good and such a brilliant idea but there were just some bits I couldn’t fully get behind and parts that felt a bit rushed. The ending also wasn’t my favourite but overall the story was still really good - definitely worth the read!
Thanks to NetGalley, Bonnier Books and Sophie Gravia for the ARC ❤️🔥
Laughed out loud from page one! Ella is back with her ride-or-die besties, Katy & Zola and they’re taking The Dicktionary Club to NYC! Filled with more laughter, dating mishaps and smut, Stars and Swipes is another wild ride from Sophie. I love the characters, how they’re all so different but so loveable and relatable. The deeper message of men are all different is probably one all of us girls need to hear, and what a way to tell it! Her relatable Scottish banter, the charm and the hilarity make this a must read for summer!
If Sophie Gravia writes it, I'll read it! This book was an automatic 5 stars again from my favourite author. I absolutely love all her books and this one done it again. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. There was the usual glasgow banter with the chaotic spicy scenes but this time it was mixed with a bit of mystery. I was trying to work out the stalker and I got it completely wrong 😑. I devoured this book in one sitting and I was so so so privileged to be picked to read this as an ARC! I already can't wait for her next book and she hasn't even written it yet! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stars and Swipes was one of the funniest yet hearty books that I’ve read in a long time. I absolutely LOVED the storyline - it truly felt like I was on a girls trip with Ella, Zola and Katy in New York! 🗽✨
The girls’ banter and friendship was everything 😖 They truly completed one another and had each other’s back no matter what (especially in some drastic situations…) 🫣
I loved how the storyline focused a lot on the growth of each girl within their relationships, while also showing that the most important love story can sometimes be the one you have with your friends and yourself 🥹
This book was an absolute joy from start to finish! It had me laughing, swooning, cringing and even a little emotional by the end 😖 If you’re looking for a hilarious rom-com with plenty of banter, chaos and girlies you’ll wish were your real-life besties, then Stars and Swipes is definitely one to pick up!
Ella is back with her besties, Katy and Zola, and this time, the Dictionary Club is heading stateside to NYC. I loved it from start to finish it’s packed with brilliant Scottish banter, plenty of laugh out loud moments, a few dating dilemmas, a hint of mystery, and of course… the spice which definitely delivers.
The characters are all so unique yet completely lovable and relatable in their own ways. It’s the perfect feel-good, laugh out loud summer read 📚✨
Thank you to Netgally, publisher, and author for an Arc in return for my honest thoughts ♥︎
So here we are back with the girls and this time we're taking on New York!
This was fast paced and hilarious as Ella, Katy and Zola navigate an American collab as well as their personal lives! This book had me in hysterics, I love their no Sh*t attitude and the banter between them is hilarious!
But it's not all fun and games, we get plenty of drama and betrayals too!! This book just had it all and I couldn't put it down!!
I absolutely loved this book! I’m a huge fan of all of Sophie Gravia’s books, but this one was especially satisfying. Alongside the usual humour, spice, and cheeky antics, there was also a suspenseful twist that added something extra and kept me hooked. At its heart, though, this is a beautiful story about friendship.
An easy 5-star read for me!
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review
Thanks to NetGalley, Bonnier Books UK and Zaffre for this ARC.
Sophie Gravia does it again. Her books never fail to make me laugh. I love love love the fact it’s a Scottish book makes it a lot easier for me to picture. Stars and Swipes I loved it, when I started reading like the Dicktionary club I couldn’t put It down
The spice was SPICY and i was happy with the ending but I wish we got a little bit more of Jimmy and Ella.
