Good read

This was a great read. I'm sorry Cyrus lost Hope because he couldn't stay faithful to her. He should've just left Ivy alone. Why lose someone good for a few moments of pleasure. It is not worth it. He wound up losing them both in the end cause he couldn't be faithful. Love will make you do crazy things.

Cynthia Blue’s/Jamila Mathis’ “The Lesson” is an interesting story of love misguided. The story opens to Robin Terry meeting with his mentor on discussion of his educational and career paths. During this relaxing encounter the conversation gets around to Robin expressing some uncertainty and ill-ease in his current relationship and contemplating greener pastures.  The mentor gives Robin something to consider in the form of a “scorned woman” story, before he haphazardly makes a decision that could negatively impact several lives.

While the novel progressed in a logical order, it didn’t fulfill me as a reader. There was lack of clarity and limited originality. This novel proved to be a frustrating read due to varied grammatical errors such as subject – verb agreement, misspellings, lack of proper punctuation and multiple wrong terms (my favorite being “doctrine degree”). Scene descriptions were held to a bare minimum when they were given at all.

The cover art adequately represented the context of the novel. Yet, the cover was boring. A couple of the characters had amazing potential if developed further and the storyline lacked excitement. There were also several instances of thoroughly unnecessary repetition.

Ultimately, this novel left me feeling disappointed! I came away wondering if anyone at the publishing company actually read; let alone edited this book. I believe that the author has been done a great disservice. The novel read more like a first draft than a completed work.

This book was an entertaining read. There were three stories about individuals that sought to find satisfaction and didn’t care who they hurt to feel good. In the beginning, Professor Robin Terry expresses his disdain about his wife’s insecurities to his mentor Dr. Braxton during a casual lunch meeting. Dr. Braxton spends the lunch giving him examples of individuals he’s known that were in similar situation as his mentee Robin.

In the first story he talks about Hope and Cyrus. This couple endured many ups and down throughout their relationship due to the countless indiscretions and acts of infidelity by Cyrus. While Cyrus cared about no one but himself and continued to hurt the ever forgiving Hope until a series of events ends with a shocker.

As Dr. Braxton concludes the story about Cyrus and Nicole it has an effect on Robin and their lesson is supposed to teach him a lesson…but does it?

I enjoyed this book and wished it was longer than the 18 chapters I read. This couple’s story was the most intriguing and could have been expanded upon by the author. I felt there were a few grammatical errors and incomplete pieces within the storyline but it didn’t cause much of a distraction. This book was a good read and I give it three stars.

The Lesson by Cynthia Blue

Is the grass greener on the other side? Is it possible to love two people at once? Can you honestly say that one is enough?

Cyrus is a great guy with typical relationship issues. Cyrus has a good woman, Hope, who loves him 100% unconditionally. The relationship has its ups and downs, but the love is there between Hope and Cyrus.

Hope is a great woman but has a few esteem issues due to a difficult past and broken heart. She carries her issues around like bags. She knows what her issues are and wants to resolve them. Cyrus, on the other hand, doesn't have any patience. He meets up with an old friend and we know for sure that this spells trouble. The grass is looking greener on the other side to Cyrus.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Sometimes if you water your own grass, it will grow. A bit of patience and communication will go a long way. This story is a guide for how to water your own relationship.
Four-star read for great details, character development, and flow.

Lesson Learned...

Although I didn't care for the way the book was written at times, it definitely held a message. Unfortunately, it's not grasped until it's too late. Relationships take a lot of work from both parties and it's detrimental if others is no communication, understanding, patience, and trust. Love usually takes care of itself. I have ALWAYS said that you can NEVER underestimate a person's feelings. Do unto your significant other as you would want done to you. Don't take kindness for weakness. Don't play with feelings of others. If you don't feel the same as the other person, don't be so selfish to string that person along for your own personal gain...

The Lesson

Being in love is beautiful. That's what Hope thought she had with Cryus until she lost her job. Every couple have ups and downs in a relationship so to think the grass is greener on the other side is what Cryus thought when he got involved with Ivy. Cyrus get caught up in his game with these two women and lives are destroyed. Will Cryus be able to get his self together before its to late? One click this short read. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

I really don't understand all of the 4 and 5 star ratings. It would have made more sense if the lesson for Cyrus had a different outcome. This book continuously repeat the same thing over and over again....how many times do we have to hear about Hope's past. We get it, she had a rough past and has been used by people. You don't have to mention it in every chapter. Don't waste your time or money.
