Feasting on the Word Lenten Companion: A Thematic Resource for Preaching and Worship
This resource is an all in one worship companion designed for those who do not follow the lectionary, or would like an alternative to the lectionary during Lent. This new volume in the Feasting on the Word series will serve as an all-in-one pastor's companion for Lent and Holy Week, providing worship materials and sermon preparation tools for both lectionary and nonlectionary preachers. The resources in this companion are a combination of material from existing Feasting on the Word volumes as well as newly written material. In keeping with other Feasting on the Word resources, the Lenten Companion offers pastors focused resources for sermon preparation along with ready-to-use liturgies for a complete order of worship. A complete order of service is provided for each of the Sundays in Lent, plus Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. Hymn suggestions, midweek services, and children's sermon suggestions make this an invaluable resource for the season of Lent.

I see this book to be a very good resource for pastors and preachers during the Season of Lent - from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday. It provides full liturgies, worship resources, and commentaries for all seven Sundays and the Triduum services. In addition abbreviated midweek services with a sample homily are provided for the seven weeks of Lent.
The material found here are taken from existing volumes in the Feasting on the Word commentary and resource series, plus new material written specifically for this volume.
This volume's intended audience is certainly those who have traditional liturgies (e.g., Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians). The volume contains sufficient introductory and explanatory material on the features and history of Lent that it can be adapted to most any Christian tradition. I think it may be of particular benefit to those groups that are new to, and relatively unfamiliar with, the concept of Lent and Holy Week; for them to understand the meaning and intent of Lent.
The material can be of assistance to time-pressed church leaders during this season as well. Without copying the samples in their entirety, portions cam be used, adapted, and used as inspiration. Much like Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter come around every year and some preachers may need some new insights into familiar texts. This volume can provide that spark.
