Richard Coekin is Director of the CoMission church network and Senior Pastor of Dundonald Church, sw London. A renowned Bible teacher and the author of several books including Our Father and Ephesians For You, Richard is also Chairman of the London Men's Convention. He is married to Sian and they have five children.
Helpful book on including application in one's preaching--but plenty of wisdom on the other elements of sermon-writing as well. Coekin writes from a conservative evangelical conviction, but as an Anglican ministering in London he has a different perspective on things that I found refreshing.
Coekin spends maybe half the book addressing the why of application and methods one would take to apply the Word in general before coming to the specific topic of sermon application. This deepened his argument and also lent credibility to his writing.
And when he provides wisdom about application-rich sermons, he also touches on illustrations, introductions/conclusions, propositions, and plenty of other important elements of sermons. So, while this is one an all-in-one guide to homiletics, it's rich enough to feed any pastor--even one who already excels at the title subject.
