Outstanding. Very simply written, but packed with excellent information and more importantly, with tips and strategies that actually work.

I am not burned out and my job satisfaction is 7.5 out of 10, but I was completely surprised how much of the book felt relevant to my own practice.
Being a physician is so emotionally, intellectually and physically stressful, that we all need all the tools we can find to prevent Burnout.

I read this because I am in charge of my organization's Burnout Prevention/Wellness Committee and I wanted to get more information about how I can lead the group to help Burnt Out Providers. This book is Tailor-Made for that purpose. There actually is a lot of information on how to be an effective Leader.

This was an enjoyable, educational read. I like Dr. Drummond--he comes across as enthusiastic, sincere, and he doesn't pretend this severe problem is easily solved. He does give me hope that Physician Burn Out is a preventable and treatable disease.

Note: although it says "Physician" in the Title, the tools in this book apply extremely well for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Dentists, Orthodontists, Teachers, Psychotherapists, really for anyone in one of the Helping or Healing Professions. This is a book I will be giving as a gift this Christmas.

This book is great for burnout prevention in physicians. It will not be helpful once one has developed a full-blown picture. The book also has elements on what can be done by the profession and by the health care organizations to make life more manageable. The type of training by people who were selected to be perfectionists, an image reinforced by the expectations of patients and society all contribute to burnout, which is seen in > 40% of physicians in the U.S. and Canada today. Dr Dike Drummond, who writes from personal experience and from coaching hundreds of physicians, provides good diagnostic description, and offers many tools to prevent burnout and work with its dilemmas. This book is not for everyone, but a good read for physicians and for those live or work with them.

Although the ideal target audience is narrow, this book was surprisingly captivating from the first page to the last. Dike does an amazing job of drawing you in, helping you understand, and then giving practical solutions. This book is best consumed in bite sized chunks with a pen and paper handy to jot down your own thoughts and answer the questions he poses. I can't wait to take my learnings and share them with my fellow physicians.

Excellent book - this would be a great book to read as a small group of physicians figuring out how to avoid, stave off or recover from burnout. This has a great number of small and big tips in it that is worth reading over and over and working to implement. The book actually has some cross industry application beyond the medical field, although it is directed towards physicians. But I can see this being read and adapted by pastors, teachers, police officers and more.
