I stare at the photograph. It was taken on an ordinary day at the park. The four of us look so happy – our smiles wide and cheeks rosy. But just a month after this image was taken, I lost everything.
I’m watching them now, walking in the park my handsome husband, my beautiful daughter and my adorable son. They’re with her. She’s playing happy families with my loved ones. She stole them from me.
She thinks she’s got rid of me. But I’m going to get my family back. And I’m going to get revenge…

"The Happy Family" is the final book in popcorn thriller Daniel Hurst's "The Hunt Family" series.
Although it's a standalone read, reading "I Want Your Family"(Book #1) and "I Stole Your Family" (Book #2) before reading this book is highly recommended.
"I Want Your Family" (Book #1 ) was the best in the series.
➡️ Highly eye-rolling, pacey, unpredictable, unputdownable, and very entertaining.
When Daniel Hurst is good, he is very, very good.
I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Clare Corbett, Helen Keeley, and Nathaniel Priestley.
Full-cast narrations are always a treat, and all narrators gave outstanding performances.
The third and final installment in The Hunt Family series was a fun and addictive read. I was fully invested in seeing how the battle between Sadie and Luna would play out, and I was not disappointed! Full of shocking twists and turns, and even some sad moments, this was a fast-paced read that led to a satisfying conclusion. I felt that each book in the series was even better than the one before.
What a perfect conclusion to this series! This has been an absolute wild ride with Sadie, Luna & Reid and I truly enjoyed every moment! Adding Gemma’s POV was a great touch, she played a key role on how everything unfolded. Loved the mind games that were played in this story and always love when the preyer gets preyed on. That’s what you call good ole fashion Karma (if executed successfully of course)! Arthur & Ruby definitely pleasantly surprised me in this one, usually TV & book kids upset me so bad lol, but this time I was pleased. The short chapters made this an easy binge, and the ending was absolutely worth the ride. If you love domestic thrillers filled with secrets & manipulation, this series is definitely a worth adding to your list. It was well written and absolutely makes me want to read more by Daniel Hurst.
3.5 ⭐️ Thanks to netgalley for an ARC of ‘The happy family’, this is the third book in the hunt family series.
While I think this was a good ending to this series, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first two books. I found the first 30% to be predictable and I wasn’t as drawn in.
However, I became more intrigued as the story progressed. Sadie wakes up from her coma faking amnesia with the hope to trick Luna to try and enact some revenge. After Sadie woke up from the coma, I was more interested in what was going to happen next while rooting for Sadie. It was a FINALLY moment after Luna has been able to trick everybody for far too long.
This hunt series was enjoyable and fast-paced and although I wasn’t as invested in the third instalment as I had been with the other two books, I would recommend this series. This is a good series for someone who likes fast-paced, action-packed and thrilling books.

I couldn't wait to dive into this one. It's the third, and final installment to Hurst's 'Hunt Family' series and boy was it explosive!
Relentless pacing, unpredictable twists and a double dose of drama had me obsessing...The gloves were out with Sadie and Luna both on the path for the final face-off.
Unhinged characters, mind games and manipulation made for a great read.
This was the perfect ending to an absolutely addictive and chaotic trilogy.
From the very beginning, this series has thrived on tension, manipulation, and psychological mind games—and this final installment delivers all of that at full force. The pacing is relentless, the twists keep coming, and the drama never lets up.
Luna continues to be one of the most fascinating—and infuriating—characters I’ve read in a long time. She’s not just chaotic for the sake of it; she’s calculated, manipulative, and constantly controlling the narrative in ways that are both impressive and deeply unsettling.
What stood out to me most in this book is how the story evolves. Instead of relying purely on shock, it leans into strategy and consequence. The tension feels more intentional, the character dynamics shift in a satisfying way, and when the turning point comes, it feels earned.
This is definitely not a standalone—you need the full backstory to appreciate just how far everything has spiraled.
If you love fast-paced psychological thrillers with morally grey characters, constant twists, and a finale that actually delivers, this series is absolutely worth the ride.
The Happy Family is book 3 in The Hunt Family series by Daniel Hurst. If you've read the first 2 books then you are so ready for Luna to get what she deserves for all of the terrible things she's done to Sadie. Will it finally happen or will Luna's evil ways prevail? Luna stole Sadie's family from her and set her up so that her own husband didn't believe her side of things. This series has been infuriating and I've been patiently waiting for this book to get here! I enjoyed this book the most as Sadie finally tries to get her revenge. A lot goes on in this book that make you think Sadie will never beat Luna at her game. Will she? You'll have to read this third installment to find out as I don't want to ruin it for you! The Hunt Family series of books should be read in order to get the most enjoyment out of them. I rate The Happy Family 4 stars with a high recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Happy Family in return for a fair review. #TheHappyFamily
One mediocre thriller turned into a fake "trilogy" for 3x the price
Or, "Act fast—1 book for the price of 3!"
No one is going to see this because 98% of Goodreads is "OMG, couldn't put it down, 5 stars! (P.S. Thanks for the free advance copy)." If anyone does, please learn from my mistakes.
His Dark Materials is a genuine trilogy. There were 2-3 years between novels because Philip Pullman needed time to write them.
The entries in the "Hunt family" "trilogy" came out in February, March and April of 2026. That's 60 days from start to finish. It's so obvious so anyone who thinks about it for 20 seconds that Hurst took one book, bloated it (multiple characters recap the same events) and had his publisher release each 1/3rd under a different title.
Book 2 is the worst offender. Nothing happens; you can skip it entirely. The minor events in it are restated here anyway.
(Of course people raved about all the "twists and turns." I asked a few to name just one "twist" and haven't gotten any replies.)
I've read junk-food thrillers that are worse than this (I'm considering it one book), but they had the decency to ask for one payment.
I don't even have the energy to name genuine classics with Goodreads score far lower than the absurdly high rating this has.
I didn’t enjoy this as much as the other two in this series, The writing felt very repetitive and felt as if the author didn’t trust us the reader to understand what the character was thinking. Which in turn meant everything was repeated or explained too simply.
I also felt like I was reading from the same person regardless if it changed povs, which I found in the two books before this,
I think this would work better if they’re not marketed as interconnected standalones and as a series you should read in order to stop the constant repetition.
It was a very fast paced thriller but I did find myself skimming over parts as it id already read it in the chapter before or in the books before.
Luna has achieved what she's always wanted, a happy family, and she'll do anything to keep it. The only problem is, Sadie, the woman she stole it from, isn't going to sit idly by and watch another woman take her place. She’s not disappearing quietly. She wants her family back. And she wants revenge. The drama kicks off immediately and never lets up.
Let me be very clear: this book is wildly unhinged. The plot goes from zero to absolutely feral in record time, and the realism was left behind several twists ago. But it's important to know that those elements did not detract from my enjoyment one bit. This is the third book in the series, and it absolutely should NOT be read as a standalone. You need the full chaotic backstory to appreciate just how far off the rails things have gone. The POV shifts between Luna, Sadie, Reid, and Gemma, which keeps the intensity high. However, I have to confess, I hated Reid’s chapters. Every time his name popped up, I sighed. Mission accomplished, I guess, because he grated on my every last nerve. You'll see what I mean.
What makes this series so addictive is how unapologetically dramatic it is. The revenge is pettier, and the stakes are somehow always escalating. It’s messy, it’s over-the-top, it’s completely bonkers, and I flew through it. If you’re looking for a subtle literary exploration of family dynamics, this ain't it. But if you want wildly dramatic domestic suspense that commits fully to the chaos, this series is such a binge. Aaaand, I may be speaking out of turn, but it seems as if this story may not be over just yet. Many thanks to Bookouture for this fun early copy that will publish April 20, 2026.
I’m sad this trilogy is over! I loved every minute of it. Action and stress packed in the best way! Daniel hurst knows how to draw you in on page one and keep you there!
This book was not for me. And that's okay because not every book is for every person! The writing felt very repetitive, with the characters repeating themselves and their intentions almost every chapter. I felt like the book could have been about four chapters and gotten the action across. It reminded me of a soap opera where they repeat themselves and pause for dramatic effect. It also felt like the author didn't trust the reader to understand what the character was thinking because of the repetition. I also had an issue with Luna being worried about being caught and once or twice her actions weighed on her conscious, but at the same time she was cold blooded killer who would do anything to get what she wanted. It felt at odds with her character. And Reid is very unlikeable. I also struggled with some of the wording such as Reid constantly calling Luna either his partner or girlfriend. At first it was almost exclusively partner - even the doctor or police called her his partner. Then it became girlfriend. I was ready to bust out a thesaurus to help the author out. This felt more like a first draft than a finished, edited, and revised book.
a big thank you to netgalley and bookouture for the arc in return for an honest review! :)

wow, i didn’t really know what to think going into this, but i’m so pleasantly surprised!! i have to say, this is the third book in a series, and it took me some time to realize because, even though i’m pretty sure it’s the last, i’d say it’s perfectly readable as a stand-alone since the book basically explains what happens in the previous ones.
even though i kind of know what happens in books 1 and 2, i’ll definitely be reading both because i loved this one so much! this is my first read from daniel hurst, and i’m happy to announce that i absolutely love his writing!
i finished this book in less than 48 hours because it was just so fast-paced! i also loved loved loveddd the multiple povs. it was so interesting to hear what was going on in everyone’s head! and the fact that we didn’t just get two povs, we got three!! absolutely amazing.
now, let’s do a deep dive into my thoughts on the storyline.
─── ⌗ ⸝⸝.⋆ 🪷 ᵎᵎ ⌇ Pre read .ᐟ so beyond excited for this one! read the synopsis and this sounds amazinggg. also, it mentioning freida mcfadden?? oh i just know this is going to be a good one

Brilliant. I've waited quite some time for that s book. Luna is absolutely brilliant. A true villain and completely bonkers. I means she's orchestrated a complete family take over and pushed the mum out, giving her an unwarranted criminal record and taking her kids off her. Sadie is better in this book, more resilient and stood up for herself. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but the ending let me down a bit, I will leave it at that. Reid is still a sack of sh!+ not only for basically being so stupid as to start a serious relationship with someone who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. But because he wasted his marriage by messaging Gemma in the first place and giving Luna an in. I would have liked to have the family she tried to steal before this be part of this book.
Wowsers what a brilliant finale to The Hunt Family trilogy! I was excited to find out the end, and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. Another fully deserved 5 star rating for this third book in the series!
**Warning: Do NOT read this review if you haven't read the first and the second book in the series - I Want Your Family and I Stole Your Family**
It's been twelve long months since Sadie's life imploded, losing her home and children and having another woman, Luna, take her place but she's finally figured out who is to blame. The question now is what will, or can, she do about it? She suddenly acts rashly, without thinking, and pays the price whilst once again Luna comes out on top. Luna gets some space for a while to carry on constructing the perfect family life she feels she deserves with Reid, his two children, and their newborn son. However, whilst doing this she knows that at any time Sadie could still blow her newfound (and very hard worked for) stolen family apart and she could lose everything including her freedom. Is it really that easy to steal a family and get away with it or will Luna’s luck eventually run out?!
Well as I said above another fabulous read from Daniel Hurst. I loved being back in the lunatic Luna world and get to read exactly everything that she was planning and carrying out to keep her dream family hers forever. Once again Reid frustrated me, but I did enjoy getting parts of the story from his POV. I absolutely loved Sadie even more in this third book. Her character development throughout the books was good but in this third one she really did rise to the top and I became so proud of the woman she became by fighting tooth and nail for what was rightfully hers. I think her character development is probably one of the best I have ever read about so great writing by Daniel Hurst! I loved so much about this book and the whole series, I loved the characters, the setting and the plot and I really feel that this series was even better than the “The Doctor’s Wife” series and that is saying something as I really enjoyed that one too! I think Daniel Hurst’s writing is just getting better and better.
A very earned 5 star rating for this third book and I definitely recommend this book and the whole series to any readers who enjoy psychological thrillers, you will be gripped and addicted. I really can’t wait to see what Daniel Hurst writes next!
Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out 20th April 2026.
Thank you Netgalley for the arc! Wow and wow! The third book did not disappoint! I could not put this down. After reading the first two books I was checking daily for the third! Could not wait to see what happened with loony Luna! The ending was perfect! I was hoping for that exact outcome for her! One of my most hated fictional characters. She was a total train wreck and I was here for it😂👏🏻!
The third and final installment to the “Hunt Family” series—another guilty pleasure popcorn thriller. I can never guess the twists and turns and that is one of many factors that makes this series so fun and bingeable!
Wow what a triology and ending that was wish there was more to come of this set am sad now I read this book 2 settings desperate to find out how it ended pls let us hv more with this set lol a must read id give more than 5 stars if I could
Love Daniel Hurst books and i think this is his best trilogy. Sadie, Reid and their 2 children live in a beautiful house and want for nothing then Luna arrives delivering parcels and she wants what Sadie has. Highly recommend this book and other 2 in trilogy
The end of the trilogy. It was good to see the enemy was vanquished. Harmony returns, but in a much different form to how we began in book one. A satisfying result.

Omg I loved this book and the whole series I was very lucky to have received this series as ARCs and wow it was good!! The series called The hunt family!!
The Happy Family is an utterly page-turning and completely addictive psychological thriller full of incredible twists by number one bestselling author Daniel Hurst. Perfect for fans of T.M. Logan, John Marrs and Freida McFadden.
Behind closed doors, nothing is as it seems… defo gripping boom and wow!!
Book Review: The Happy Family (The Hunt Family, Book 3) Author: Daniel Hurst Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (A "Sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat" Masterclass)
If life were a game of poker, Daniel Hurst just cleared the table. The Happy Family is the explosive finale to the Hunt Family saga, and let me tell you, the cards were stacked in the writer’s favor from the very first page. I usually pride myself on spotting a twist from a mile away, but Hurst threw down a trope I simply did not see coming.
The Tension: From the Sofa to the Taxi This was the fastest I have ever devours a book. From the start, the tension is cranked to the absolute limit. Because there are children involved, the stakes feel agonizingly high—you don't just want to keep reading; you have to.
There were moments of temporary heartbreak that hit me unexpectedly; at one point, I found myself thinking of my own Mum, and that’s when you know a thriller has crossed the line from "story" to "personal." I found myself holding my breath, swearing under my breath in the back of a taxi, and eventually—much to the driver's surprise—cheering out loud!
The Antagonist: Devious and Dark The antagonist in this finale is written with a level of deviousness that keeps you pinned to your seat. It’s fast-paced, shocking, and atmospheric. If this had been an episode of Tales of the Unexpected, I’m not sure I would have ever come out from behind the sofa!
From Page to Screen I’ve said it before, but the entire Hunt saga is crying out for a TV adaptation. Someone needs to call "Action!" on this and Daniel’s The Doctor series immediately. Move over Midsomer Murders, Lewis, and Wycliffe—there is a new level of psychological suspense in town that puts those classics in the shade.
(Side note: For those who haven't dived into the Hurst-verse yet, there is a cheeky little taster for The Doctor series waiting for you at the end of this book!)
The Verdict The ending? It could have gone either way. It was a masterfully balanced conclusion that offered just enough of that "Piquant" hope for the protagonist.
I can finally sleep tonight! If you want a thriller that you physically cannot put down, this is it. Just maybe apologize to your taxi driver in advance.
PUBLISH DATE: Apr 20 2026 The Happy Family by Daniel Hurst (Book #3) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was the perfect ending to an addictive trilogy.
What makes this series so compelling isn’t just the twists. It’s the psychological chess match. Luna has been one of the most fascinating villains I’ve read in a long time, not because she’s loud or dramatic, but because she is terrifyingly skilled at controlling the narrative. Watching her manipulate perception, sympathy, and timing over three books has been both impressive and unsettling.
In this final installment, the tension shifts in a really satisfying way. The power dynamic begins to change. Instead of frantic reactions, we see strategy. Instead of emotional explosions, we see patience. That shift is what makes this book work so well. It doesn’t rely on shock alone. It builds.
There’s a steady escalation throughout the story that feels intentional rather than chaotic. When the turning point comes, it feels earned. Nothing is handed to the characters easily, and the resolution respects the journey it took to get there.
I also appreciated that the ending avoided clichés. It didn’t tie everything up in a perfectly neat bow, but it provided emotional closure in a way that felt mature and realistic. Growth mattered. Consequences mattered. And the characters’ futures felt believable.
This book surprised me, even though I could see the groundwork being laid. That’s the best kind of twist. It doesn’t come out of nowhere, but it still lands hard.
As a full trilogy, this series earns five stars from me. Fast-paced, psychologically sharp, and anchored by one of the most unforgettable villains I’ve read recently.
PUBLISH DATE: Apr 20 2026 BOOK TITLE: The Happy Family SERIES: Book 3 of The Hunt family AUTHOR: Daniel Hurst PUBLISHER: Bookouture FORMAT: ebook PAGES: I received a complimentary digital ARC [Advanced Reader copy] of this book via NetGalley. The Happy Family by Daniel Hurst, the last in the trilogy….
An absolute must to read these in order, and read these you should because they are amazing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you #NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book in return for my honest review, opinions and feedback on it.
Intriguing, Intense, Insane! Daniel has done it again. This book is another completely unputdownable masterpiece, and I savored every single second of the reading experience!
Wowzers! The unforgettable character of Looney Luna, or as I've affectionately—and perhaps a little fearfully—dubbed her, LunaTic Luna, is back and more captivating than ever in this third and final installment of the series. The tension and drama had been building relentlessly, and with the walls beginning to ominously close in on her by the end of the second book, my anticipation to discover her ultimate fate in this conclusion was through the roof. I simply couldn't wait to turn the pages.
This final chapter delivers a pulse-pounding, high-stakes conclusion that fans of the series have been craving. Daniel's masterful storytelling weaves a complex web of psychological manipulation and thrilling action, forcing the reader to question not only Luna's sanity but the motivations of everyone around her. The narrative pacing is relentless, accelerating toward an inevitable, explosive climax.
The central, burning question that fuels the entire book remains: Will crazy win? Will Luna, in her chaotic, unpredictable brilliance, manage to outmaneuver the forces of justice and sanity that are closing in on her? Or will she finally, justly, and definitively get what she deserves in the end for the sheer devastation and heartache she has mercilessly wrought, leaving a trail of utterly destroyed lives in her wake?
This finale is a deeply satisfying, albeit unsettling, exploration of morality, consequence, and the fine line between genius and madness. Prepare for a sleepless night, as once you start, there's no turning back from the thrilling, dark world of LunaTic Luna.
The Happy Family is a sleek, addictive psychological thriller that hooks you from its very first image—a sun‑washed family photograph that should have captured nothing more than an ordinary day at the park. Instead, it becomes the last snapshot of a life that shatters only a month later. That contrast between the bright, smiling surface and the devastation that follows sets the tone for a story built on fractured trust, simmering resentment, and the dangerous pull of obsession.
The narrator’s voice is intimate and unsettling in the best way: a woman pushed to the margins of her own life, watching her husband and children stroll through the park with the woman who has taken her place. There’s a quiet ache beneath her words, but also a sharp, gathering resolve. She hasn’t disappeared—not really—and the tension comes from knowing she’s inching closer to reclaiming what she lost, even if revenge is the only path left to her.
Daniel Hurst plays beautifully with the claustrophobia of domestic spaces, turning everyday moments into something charged and watchful. The neighbourhood feels polished on the outside but threaded with secrets, and the sense that everyone is performing a version of themselves adds to the creeping unease. The pacing is brisk, the chapters tight, and the twists arrive with that satisfying snap that keeps you reading long past when you meant to stop.
What lingers is the emotional undercurrent: the grief, the fury, the desperate longing for a life that slipped away too easily. It gives the thriller its weight, grounding the suspense in something painfully human. By the time the truth unravels, the story has shifted into a sharp, compulsive exploration of how far someone will go when they’ve been pushed out of their own family.
A tense, twist‑driven read perfect for fans of domestic suspense that blends emotional depth with relentless momentum.
With thanks to Daniel Hurst, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC
