Peter Felton

If there was a meme for being a total cliché?

That would be me.

It wouldn’t even need a description, just a pathetic snapshot of me in my threadbare pyjamas, standing at my filthy kitchen table, staring into the wall like a loser.

Because that is exactly who I was. The middle-aged widower caught up in his very own hell of a midlife crisis. The guy who wasn’t over his dead wife. The single dad. Pathetic, Peter. Utterly pathetic.

The guy who thought… I didn’t know what I’d been thinking. Because if someone had told me that at forty-five, I’d willingly go on a reality-TV dating show?

Yeah. You get the picture. The memes were brutal. Every single one of them was bouncing around the internet like a contagious super virus. The internet was forever. And so was love.

It wasn’t who I was, this…this joke of a man I’d become. It never was, and now? Now I was standing here wondering how I would ever leave the house again.

Oliver Jacobs

When I was a kid, I thought I was invincible. Turns out…sometimes I was. Sometimes my confidence took me places, and anyway. When I fell? I got up. Made a plan, organised my options and ran with the obvious solution. I was good like that.

But I hadn’t counted on…this one plan going so very, very wrong. So terribly, awfully wrong.

Because my requests were simple and easy. Youngish, around my age. No facial hair. Nice. No kids, no baggage.

Also gay.

And then? They gifted me…Peter Fenton. Everything I hadn’t asked for. And now he is all I want.

So…should I save the date? Or just swallow down the fact that Oliver Jacobs…just made the biggest mistake of his life.

Save the Date is a standalone novel set in the Square Mile Rogues universe. Content warnings for death of a partner, violent grief and finding out that love…really matters.

Sophia Soames is one of my favourite authors, I adore her imperfect and messy characters so very much.
In this 4th book of the Square Mile Rogue series, Oliver and Peter find their happy ending.

Oliver works in finance (he’s employed in Juliet’s firm, the same place where Bastien and Kieron, from the first two books, work), he’s very good at his job, he accumulated a good amount of money that he never spends, but he’s alone, no family or friends and he parties hard with coke and meaningless hookups.

After he makes a big mistake at work and he’s almost burned out, Oliver decides to participate in a reality show, Save The Date, that should help him find a man. Oliver, in fact, craves stability, love and happiness but he’s completely lost and he doesn’t know how to get his life together.

Peter is a dentist, he’s been married with a famous actress, Mary, for twenty years and he’s been a widower for 5. He’s quite miserable but he doesn’t know how to move on without his wife, he doesn’t even know if he wants to. Peter has two amazing twin sons, Cal and Ed, who decided it was time for him to get to know new people and start dating again, so they signed him up for the reality show.

Unexpectedly, Peter and Oliver are paired together and they have to share a minuscule apartment, surrounded by microphones and cameras. After the initial shock of being set with a man, Peter starts warming up to Oliver and they support each other through the madness that dominates the reality show. They become friends and their connection grows. But the continuous changes in the script, the new contestants brought into the reality, the awful meddling from the production, make their fragile friendship implode.

I have to say that I hated every part of that show, especially Kirsten, the responsible of the whole project, who kept pushing and pushing to get drama and attention but never cared for the well being of the contestants, despite her team constantly trying to reign her in.

I liked very much that one of Kirsten’s young collaborators, George, has his own POV in this book and he pops here and there into the story to give us another perspective. George has also his own romance going on and, oh my gosh, I was really so very invested in finding out who his mysterious best friend/love interest was. Sophia Soames gave us two wonderful love stories instead of just one.

We also have Ed and Cal very present in the story: they are set to make their father acknowledge how perfect Oliver is for him.

Because, yes, throughout all the mayhem, Peter starts feeling things for Oliver even though he's not strong enough to face them. At first I honestly thought Peter was having the messiest bi awakening in the history of gay romance but there’s so much more underneath the surface that I was not expecting. I’m just going to say that Peter has a unique journey regarding his own sexuality that wasn’t easy at all.

I think the author did an outstanding job with Mary’s “presence” in the story: all the details about their marriage were an integral part of Peter’s journey and he and Oliver had to talk it all out if they wanted to get a real shot at their relationship.
I wish I could say more, but I really don’t want to spoil anything for the readers.

Honorable mention to Gina De Santos (Kieron’s bestie), who was a fierce supporter of Peter, Oliver and George, and Juliet (the firm owner) who is an amazing person.

Lastly, Oliver’s friendship with Cal was beautiful, I adored how they had their own thing going on, separated from Peter and Ed. I hope the author will give Cal a story too, because the man deserves it hard.

Very very recommended.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Another fantastic read. I love the way Sophia writes her characters and the emotions and struggles they work through.

What I found unique about this book was that, in addition to the two MC’s, we also had interspersed chapters from the POV of George in the production team. He gives us a peek at the chaos going on behind the scenes of the dating show, as well as adding a bit of spice with his mystery lover. As the story progresses we see how important his role is and the connection to Peter and Oliver.

Peter struggles to move on after his wife passed, so his son’s convince him to sign up for a reality tv dating show. Oliver feels his life is spinning out of control and sees the show as a way out. Although they were not who the other was expecting to be paired with when they signed up for the dating show, after the initial shock Peter and Oliver quickly become each other’s lifeline whilst navigating the mayhem, supporting each other and developing a friendship. Their story is a slow burn, as neither is whom the other envisaged their ideal future partner to be. Over time they come to realise what they really mean to each other.

Mental health is a big topic throughout the book, as both Peter and Oliver (and to an extent, George) struggle with their own issues. There are also moments of comic relief, dramas with fellow contestants and funny cameos from Peter’s wife Mary as she haunts the family home.

I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Square Mile Rogues universe!

Lovely slow-burn, hurt/comfort

This was just beautifully written, I felt every emotion, every touch, every glance.
Peter is drowning in depression, grieving the loss of his wife.
Somehow he ends up on a reality TV dating show.
He meets Oliver and while there's chemistry and attraction between them, the rosd to true love is not always easy.
Both men have lots of baggage to deal with individually first before they can even begin to think about being a couple.
This was filled with second chances, found families, and accepting yourself.

You laugh and you cry because this author creates something each time that feels real, little rough and messy just like real life should or could be.

I loved Peter and Oliver so much, and it’s clear that they were destined for one another, just had little of a bumpy road to get to their happiness but totally worth it.

This is such a hard one for me to do justice to. It wasn't just a romance.
It was two men, both lost, looking for something to fill the cracks, just not knowing what it was.

You could not find two people who were more opposite than Oliver and Peter. They were true yin and yang.

Oliver is, was…
I have to be honest here; he made my skin crawl at first. His holier-than-thou work attitude, then his sexual evening escapades while riding high; Yes, I was being totally judgmental.
He did have a problem, and he needed help, but first impressions are hard to shake. He did eventually endear himself to me.

Oliver requested a single, no drama, no baggage, openly gay roomie who was looking for his forever.
Thanks to Kirsten’s absolutely slimy black heart, he gets roomed with the complete opposite of what he asked for:

Peter.

Lawd, he was such a gentle soul. Drifting for so long in an ocean of grief.
Gotta love his boys for tossing him a life preserver or throwing chum into the waters around him - perspective.
Just kidding about the chum, though he did have a bit of trouble with the production crew in the beginning.
But which contestant didnt? Thanks to the above-mentioned slimy black heart, Kirsten.

Peter and Oliver are thrown into an apartment together for the production.
Despite seeming to have nothing in common and neither being what the other had requested, Oliver and Peter find a quiet strength in each other.

This is a very slow burn with an absolutely stellar cast and a terrific storyline
Obstacles to overcome to move forward (including Kirsten's drummed up drama - like there wasn't enough already)
Hard truths that need to be faced (real ones, not just our slimy director's version of entertainment)
And old wounds that need to be treated

All the above was what made this such a fabulous read.
The author didn’t gloss over the painful stuff, the nitty gritty, the healing, the making amends.
Coming to terms with yourself and finally accepting who you are
The good
And the bad
They eventually get there, and it was worth the bumps and bruises along the way

OH, on a side note… There is the sweetest secondary romance running in the background.

I loved this story . Sophia has a way of writing that is just so beautiful. Her characters and story feel realistic. Peter a widowed dad decides to go on a dating show, what could happen? Oliver joins the dating show hoping to mess around . The build up and story were so good, Page turner for sure. One bed, mis matched . There are some heavier topic talked about throughout . Such a fantastic story. can't wait for more.

BUT I really despise Mary
The second bonus chapter was better than the epilogue
I prefer Cal to Ed
Liked the slow burn

Every time I pick up a book by Sophia I am drawn straight into her characters and I love her writing style.
Peter and Oliver are both messy and complicated characters and cared about both of them from their first chapters. They are thrown together in a toxic reality TV show which they went on voluntarily for different reasons but really - what were they thinking?!
Very early on we also meet George who has a parallel love story which is a lovely, unexpected addition and runs through the whole book.
The twists and turns of the story are very engaging and delightfully surprising at times. It was very hard to put this story down.
Chaotic but loving family is something Sophia does really well and this book has it all. Including a touching but also funny way to involve Mary, Peter’s late wife. I cared deeply about all the characters and definitely need to read Cal’s novella.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review of a book I would highly recommend others to read.

When I finished this book I had to send a message to Sophia Soames with the words
“I need you to stop writing epilogues like this” I was crying, and that’s just typical when I read a Sophia Soames book 😭

This book is about people who needs people 💚
In the middle of chaos you find your person and your family.

What happens when you match two people that’s on the paper not a match?

What happens when you lock them up in the same room, with cameras and microphones?

Sophia’s knows to write books where the characters doesn’t realize they are in love and that they have found their person 💚

What a mess Sophia created out of the lives of her characters.
She threw them in this fake reality, heavily scripted, brutal TV show! These poor men! They each have their own tragedy; their lives are broken to bits and pieces, they suffer from fears, anxieties, depression, and loneliness, longing for a simple human interaction. And what do they get instead? The first meeting of Oliver and Peter is so wrong that it makes you cringe! Everything is upside down; they have been dragged into a situation they couldn’t predict and don’t know how to handle. There would be tears, anger, and frustration. The manipulative head of production is easily playing with people's feelings, trying to get ratings, and absolutely ignoring the simple rules of accepting that they are dealing with human lives.
And Peter and Oliver would be so drawn out by everything that they would walk out in the middle of the production, otherwise they are in danger of completely losing themselves.
I felt that Oliver couldn’t get a break; his life when he was a kid was horrible, and he became a homeless, hungry teenager who managed to save himself, but it cost him a lot of sacrifice. His soul and his mind are damaged. And he so needs someone like Peter, the one who could ease his pain with just a small, gentle touch and tender smile.
Peter has his own demons to fight; his grief still has a dead grip on him, not allowing him to live to the fullest. The change is desperately needed, but he doesn’t know if he can risk it.
And then there was Georgie. I didn’t understand his appearance at first, why he was intertwined between Peter and Oliver's stories. Until I got it. Oh, this poor man, how I suffered along with him, from the unfair treatment at work, to his messy relationship with Ed.
Seriously, this is not an easy book to read. I had to stop, take a breath, go back, and re-read the paragraphs to let the meaning of the words seep into my mind. And the way it’s written, in a very staccato rhythm, with abruptly ending sentences, that very ingeniously describe how disruptive the thoughts of the characters are. It is unique in its narration, and so, so good! It just feels so real, so lifelike, you truly believe the things that happened, because you can see them often as well.
It is always a hard way to get to the happy ending, in real life and in the book. And it’s totally worth it. I enjoyed this story, even if it left me at times in tears, frustrated that things are so hard for all the people involved in it.
The whole series is wonderful, and I would definitely be coming back to read them again! And I will talk about them and recommend them for other readers.

A story with an exceptional concept! I wanted to make this a compact review, I failed!

Here we go! Step into the world of the crazy reality TV show. Stuck with not the man of your choice. A disaster or not?

Forty-five-year-old paediatric orthodontist and widower Peter Felton, reluctantly signed up for the Save the Date reality show. Pushed by his sons Cal and Ed. He retreated from life for far too long after his wife Mary died, five years ago.

Oliver is a twenty-nine-year-old account manager, a white powder addict, with a penthouse and enough money, and enough guys around who railed him. He’s deeply unhappy.
Oliver signed up with a few requests for his future show teammate: it has to be a gay guy, around his age, with no kids and no baggage. Simple requests right? Wrong!

Peter is teamed up with Oliver, and they will share an apartment with cameras everywhere.
Oliver is shocked, he’s teamed up with an older guy, who has two kids and a lot of baggage.
You wouldn’t guess, after quite the introduction (and the setup by Kirsten, the toxic woman), but they matched perfectly. They are quite content sharing a room and bed.

All the other team members are just as mismatched as they are.
It’s quite chaotic, the course of events of the show, but entertaining af.
Peter and Oliver just hit off as if they were meant for each other, oh dang! They are, lol!!
Only, they don’t know this, yet! They are so kind and sweet with each other.
And still, there’s a world outside. Gosh, thank you lord, there is a world outside where real life is happening!

And then there’s George, the floor manager, who pops up here and there. It was so wonderful to meet him and his pov. Besides Peter and Oliver’s romance, the author wrote a secondary one into this novel. This was downright awesomeness, George and his best friend. My heart, these two 😍. George was in love with him for ages and will finally have his hea!

I could go into many of the hundreds of details, but that’s really not necessary for this review. If you are familiar with this author, you know this will be an amazing story, with well-developed thickly layered characters. Both men have a dose of hurt as baggage, there’s fine humour, and the most genuine feelings all over the floor. Their blooming romance was everything! I loved them deeply.

Sweet Mary is present throughout the whole story, you’re only dead when you are forgotten, and she’s not! Their sons Ed and Cal are just marvellous!
In short, this widely written story was one big winner for me!

Tea anyone?

ARC provided by Gay Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to review.

Save The Date by Sophia Soames, is the 4th book in the Square Mile Rogue series. The story features middle-aged widower, and father of two, Peter Felton and Finance manager Oliver Jacobs, as an unlikely pairing on a questionable dating Reality TV show. An interesting premise turns into a rich character-driven age-gap slow burn romance that explores the themes of deep grief and loss, acceptance, finding yourself and finding family. Alongside the main romance, there is secondary romance which is handled so interestingly and adds to the overall story.

I thought this was a fantastic story, Peter and Oliver were such well written characters from the start. Peter struggled following the loss of his wife and was lost in that grief. His beloved twin adult sons, Cal and Ed, essentially pushed him towards the dating show as a way for him to move forwards. I adored how their father and son relationship was written and the love between them as a family unit poured from the pages. Oliver, a much younger man, was struggling with many things including, a drug addiction, and entered the show as means of an escape.

From an explosive first meeting, it was evident there was something between Peter and Oliver that had the potential to become more. The first part of the story dealt with the reality of being in a reality TV show, and it was so difficult, claustrophobic and frustrating to read. It was so well written, and you can feel the pressure and discomfort that Peter and Oliver experienced. The pacing is very slow-burn and the second part of the book is where the focus switches to their developing relationship. I really enjoyed this part, and it dealt so sensitively with grief and learning to live again after loss.

There were moments where I wanted to shake Peter, and others where I wanted to hug Oliver. The boys were such good characters, and so supportive and loving. There is a lot going on in the story, but the happy ending makes it worth staying invested until the end. Even with their flaws, Peter and Oliver were so loving and loveable, this was a story that stayed with me long after I finished reading it. I would recommend this story. 4.9/5

Save the Date is another funny, sexy, intensely emotional book by Sophia Soames.
People are messy. And a scandalous celebrity tell-all doesn’t provide the nuance of a couple’s inner lives.
Did pediatric dentist Peter wish his actress wife hadn’t penned the book that shared their most intimate secrets with the world? No doubt. But he loved her, even when he wanted to leave. Now widowed he’s left with guilt, shame, and regret. So when his college-aged sons cajole him to join the dating show their friend is working on, he reluctantly agrees thinking maybe, just maybe, it’s time.
Oliver wants to find love and a family. But is he using the show to hide from the mess he’s made of his life? Yes. Probably. Because no matter how successful he is, part of him is still the kid terrorized by a homophobic stepdad and tossed from his family home.
The fact he’s matched with a silver fox with kids who expected to be paired with a woman and not the younger, unattached hottie he requested shows his luck isn’t improving any time soon.
This is not a meet cute. But Peter and Ollie, against all odds, form a connection, avoid the machinations of a toxic producer, and become fan favorites. Until it all gets to be too much. And then things really get interesting.
I loved the emotional intimacy these two easily fell into. The recognition of kindred spirits. Physically they’re a slow burn, but they laid themselves bare sharing secrets and uncomfortable truths. I dare you not to love these men.
The parallel storyline of sweet, young, in over his head floor manager George and his mysterious lover is swoony and so satisfying.
And then there’s the return of Gina (freaking) Dos Santos! I love this fierce force of nature who sets everything right and takes Peter, Ollie, et al along for the ride. More of her please!
There’s babygirl and grandpa vibes, people showing they’re stronger then they think, and a (maybe?) haunted house. Ollie and Peter’s journey shows love is always worth the work, and “Operation Make Peter Fall in Love With Me” gets a hilarious assist from Peter’s twin boys. I loved it!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I couldn’t put it down and luckily I was able to indulge myself and just sit there and read. This book is a bit of a twofer, you get two stories in one. If you are looking for something light and fluffy then this is not it but, what you do get is something more realistic and worthwhile. This is part of the Square Mile Rogues series and one of our MCs, Oliver, works at Delaware Financial for Juliet. This book is a standalone within the series but you will get much more enjoyment with prior reading of the rest of the books (all absolute crackers).

Both Peter and Oliver are such lost, broken and perfectly imperfect men that they make absolute sense for each other and Sophia writes their story in such a way that you feel you are part of it. I loved how much research she must have done into the world of entertainment and reality shows in particular. I can just imagine all of this happening; likewise with her depiction of Oliver and the corporate world.

The second story, which bubbles along under the surface, is just as worthwhile but I won’t give any spoilers here suffice to say, you will enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised.

There is so much going on in this book to keep the reader entertained, moments of humour and despair all wrapped up with gritty, real life situations that make you stop and think; all of which are trademarks of Sophia Soames writing style.

I would add that there are scenes and mentions of drug taking contained within, an essential part of the story, not glamorised, but if this is a trigger for you then beware.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

My stomach is growling!!
What a treat. Sophia has a talent for writing stories about second chances, found families and embracing who you are. She has a quirky style that I like very much!
The set up for Save the Date is a reality TV show and I have to confess, I detest reality TV shows! But as it turns out – I’m not the only one. I won’t spoil it by saying more. How on earth Peter was persuaded into doing this, I have no idea and I don’t think he does either - but he was and when he is paired with Oliver, life takes a very interesting turn. And another turn. Then another. Life to happiness for these two does not run smoothly.
Lovely characters. There’s a big age gap but it never felt too big. The characters were well drawn, complex and some were challenging. I did wonder how we’d get to the happy ever after, but I knew we would eventually.
There were some lovely touches – I particularly liked – my stomach is growling – you’ll see why! I loved the creaky floorboards, I liked Peter’s sons and George.
It’s a very slow burn, because both MCs need to sort themselves out. Both Oliver and Peter need help understanding what they’re doing with their lives and with a bit of encouragement from others, they end up being perfect for each other.
It’s a beautifully written hurt-comfort story. Highly recommended.

Fourth in series (Square Mile Rogues), but can be read as a standalone. Widower single dad. Arranged reality TV show relationship. Age gap. Only one bed. Found family. Very slow burn. Mostly dual POV, some secondary POV. Heed content warnings.

A reality show that matches Peter, a widowed dentist with two grown sons, and Oliver, a younger gifted finance manager with a drug problem. The chaos and stressful environment of being filmed for a TV series was hard to read at times, under the pressure cooker Oliver and Peter become close comrades quickly as they struggle though together.

There is a lot of the storyline that doesn’t get revealed until much later in the story and I did struggle at times to see any kind of romantic connection for the first part of the book. However, this author always comes through with flawed characters that are struggling but fight for their happiness and a chance with their special person. Overall, an entertaining story with two broken men finding love and support as they settle into an HEA with some very supportive secondary characters. 4.25

P.S. I wasn’t sure how the parallel side romance connected to the main story, but it comes full circle in a really sweet way, and I enjoyed George and his best friend figuring out their own HEA.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarain, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is my review, and I am going to be honest, ok?

In the beginning, I hated this book. It was making no sense, Oliver and Peter had a say but also a third person and I couldn't see why this other person had a say for such a long time. Worse still, the third person kept talking about "him" and a name was not used and I was getting frustrated so bad! I really considered dumping this book, I was that cross with it.

And then! I have absolutely no idea what happened, but it kept me reading and then suddenly everything made perfect sense and I actually found this a very good read in the end.

I hated (capital letters, underlined, italics and bold) absolutely hated what they did on that game show. The person in charge was a b!tch of the highest order, and just wanted ratings, she wasn't at all bothered what they did to people. Just gotta get that in! The fact that this came with a Married at First Sight style game show tag, makes me think about that show (cos I've watched it, don't judge me!) and what happens in the background on that one.

But I loved that both Peter and Oliver managed to walk away at the very right time for them both.

Opposites really do attract, and Oliver and Peter were polar opposites. I loved that neither saw the past of the other as a problem, once they actually talked about things away from the dating show. Their respective history doesn't all come out in one go and I loved being able to catch my breath before the next bit was thrown at me.

And there were some corkers thrown at me! Peter's marriage and how that worked, was one. Much of Oliver's past comes out in the book, though.

And that third person's mysterious he?? I got that so very wrong! But I loved the way it all came together, I really did.

This is the first book I've read of Ms Soames and now I know how she likes to mess things up in my head, I might venture into her world again. OH, and before I go, this book is billed as book 4 in the Square Mile Rogues series and a quick look at books one and two (cos I can't find book 3!) shows me that this can be read as a stand alone to those books. I don't think any of those main characters pop up here.

Because it took me a while to start to enjoy, . . .

4 very good stars

Oh, this book was so wonderfully messy.
Both Peter and Oliver have so many issues of their own it would seem impossible that putting them together could result in anything but utter disaster. Instead, they work… somehow…
The book is written in a sort of stream-of-consciousness style, you really get into the characters’ cluttered thinking, and at the beginning it takes a bit to really get into what is going on, as you don’t have a clear, 360-degree overview. But at the same time, you really get to feel everything they feel, and I simply loved it.
Also, I liked the little touch of the occasional “external” POV. Every few chapters the POV is neither Oliver’s nor Peter’s, but that of another person. I didn’t get it in the beginning, but it is very meaningful and makes perfect sense as the story progresses.
In a few words: you all need to read this!

I absolutely adore Sophia Soames’ work, I’ve read everything she’s written, so I was buzzing for this one. And she’s only gone and done it again with a 5 + star read!
Save the Date is clever, sweet, and totally pulls at the heartstrings in all the right places. It’s a perfect mix of laugh out loud moments and ridiculous situations, with some really touching, sadder scenes thrown in. I loved the setup, it’s framed around a soulless reality TV show, where the MCs meet.
Peter and Oliver both carry a lot of heavy baggage, which makes their journey a wonderful slow burn. Watching them eventually lean on each other, and seeing how Oliver fits in with Peter’s twins, Cal and Ed, is genuinely beautiful. Once they finally click, though, the chemistry is sizzling hot!
The dual POV was a massive win for me, it gives such a great insight into their heads and really helps you understand what makes them tick. Also, the story flows so well, and the side characters are brilliant. Some of the TV personnel are certainly interesting, but also thoroughly obnoxious and have zero shame about making people’s lives miserable for the cameras! I did totally fall for producer George (such a lovely mess of a guy) , and there’s a too precious twist for him at the end that I won’t spoil.
If you’re after a heartfelt, slightly gritty, but ultimately gorgeous romance, this is perfect. You'll also find a lot of the same in other books by Sophia, such a clever and talented writer

This story offers a beautiful, complicated relationship progression — Peter and Oliver are complex, deeply human protagonists who have baggage and obstacles both real and manufactured (see reality tv premise). On the topic of that premise: it gives us a villain who is suitably awful and excessive. There’s also an absolutely charming secondary romance that adds warmth to an already rich cast of supporting characters. And threading through all of it is a writing style that's beautiful and immersive in a way that draws you into characters and emotions in ways that feel nuanced and impactful throughout.

This is Peter and Oliver's story. A very slow burn, age gap between two contestant in a reality TV show. It took me a minute to fall in love with it, I definitely didn't like the TV aspect and the producer, but I liked poor George right from the start, and I catched who his FIL is almost from the start.
Loved how Sophia developed the main romance, Oliver's issues and Peter's struggle.
The more I read it, the more I wanted to keep going. Definitely recommended!

I was gifted an ARC and this is my honest review.

I love the messy and complicated characters that this author writes so well. This was actually one main romance and a second for another couple at the same time, although I'll admit I found that a bit confusing until the connections became clear. The TV reality show was really, really bizarre. The main couple, Peter and Oliver, both struggled a lot with themselves throughout, and due to the chance meeting in the show found support in each other and from a number of characters including Peter's sons.

Two complex individuals getting their chance at something real with the help of reality TV of all things. Peter, a widower with two grown children is paired with Oliver, a younger finance manager with a drug problem, in an arranged reality TV relationship. These two both have a lot of demons that need to be conquered before either should or even could enter a healthy relationship. Both men grow and learn to lean on the other in this beautifully messy slow burn romance. Will not lie, wasn’t sure how these two could work as a couple, didn’t feel their energy together, but Sophia does what Sophia does and proves why they are so right for one another. The interactions with Peters children show how great of a man he is even when he was lost in his depression of losing his spouse. Sophia is one of those authors who just knows how to write beautifully broken men and fully immerse into their lives, showing us as readers how dedicated they are as an author to make this the most authentic story they can write. Yes, this isn’t a fluffy romance by any means but it is worthwhile reading.

I love it when an author doesn't make it easy for the MCs. The story in this book, the premise and the decision of the MCs, had me guessing more than once, and took me by surprise for sure. Things that seemingly shouldn't work, were just right.
I need more books like this, where nothing is obvious. I enjoyed it a whole lot!

I don't know, they story is not bad and the damaged characters are fun. But I struggle with her writing style. Very rambling, all aborted sentences, going in circles. I wish it was a bit more coherent and streamlined.

I held on until the biter end but JFC I didn't know how much I would hate this the more I read. I thought the beginning was just a little choppy, trying to find the flow but it never evened out to anything resembling a good story.

Clever, full of humor and compassion. Soames shows such love and understanding of her characters, it’s always a pleasure to be invited in.
