In a world governed by the Gray Legion and the shadowy Council, safety is a commodity paid for in blood and absolute obedience. For Varric, survival is the only law. But when a routine path leads him into the heart of a cosmic conspiracy, he discovers that some debts are paid in more than just blood—they are paid in humanity.
From the brutal military ranks of the Legion to the soul-stealing silence of Millbrook, Varric must navigate a landscape where the line between hero and monster is as thin as a blade’s edge. This is a world where people are harvested, death only extends suffering, and the very strings of fate are held by an ancient, unseen force.
This book has such a refreshing take on fantasy. It was such a nice change to have the hero corrupted but also with an angel inside him. Varric was such an amazing character. A soldier in mind but in heart he was something else. He knows the wrongs he did as a soldier but now he tried to make amends and save the world and what a world it is. The writing, the world , the characters and the plot. I loved everything about it. Everything was so well written and it sucks you into the world and doesn't want you to leave. There was so much tragedy and sacrifice but it was all to save the world. Not everyone can be saved but with the people they saved, it was worth it. I can't wait for the rest of the series! I'm so glad I was able to win this in a giveaway because I'm obsessed!!
