The Marriage Clause: A Billionaire Romance Of Power and Control

Rate this book
A marriage written into a corporate clause.
A billionaire who controls everything.
A woman who refuses to be owned.

Killian Thorne didn’t become powerful by being kind.

He built his empire through precision, dominance, and absolute control. In his world, weakness is eliminated, emotions are liabilities, and love is a risk he cannot afford. When a corporate war forces Elena Sterling into a strategic marriage with him, Killian treats it like every other deal structured, contained, and governed by rules he never breaks.

Elena refuses to be owned.

As the fiercely independent CEO of a luxury fashion empire, she agrees to the marriage to protect her legacy not to surrender herself. She will not become another acquisition in Killian’s portfolio, no matter how dangerous or irresistible he is. Their marriage is tense and combustible, defined by a battle for autonomy neither of them is prepared to lose.

But beneath Killian’s ruthlessness is a man shaped by survival.
And beneath Elena’s armor is a woman who refuses to disappear.

As enemies close in and control begins to fail him, Killian must confront the truth he has spent his life avoiding: protection is not possession, and love cannot survive inside a cage.

Because the most dangerous thing about a ruthless man…
is what happens when he finally lets go.

The Marriage Clause is a contemporary billionaire romance about power, resistance, obsession, and earned redemption.

The Marriage Clause is built on power, control, and a marriage that exists because a woman is cornered — not because of love. And the book never pretends otherwise. Killian is cold, obsessive, controlling, and fully aware of it. Elena isn’t weak, but she’s trapped, and that imbalance drives the entire story.

I was hooked from the start. The pacing is solid, the writing is smooth, and the tension doesn’t disappear once the marriage happens — if anything, it gets worse. Killian is the kind of MMC you either love because he’s unapologetically dark, or hate because he never tries to soften.

This worked for me because it commits. It doesn’t try to dress control up as romance or pretend he’s a good guy. That said, this won’t be for everyone. If possessive behavior, dominance, or emotional control are dealbreakers for you, this will be uncomfortable.

Overall, this is a strong, bingeable billionaire romance with very clear dark-leaning dynamics. Read it for tension, obsession, and power — not tenderness.

•“This wasn’t romance. It was strategy.”

•“He didn’t want her heart — he wanted control.”

Okay, honesty time.

This is a control fantasy. Full stop.

Killian doesn’t ask. He decides. He doesn’t soften. He dominates — emotionally, physically, strategically. And Elena agrees because she has no real alternative, not because she’s swept off her feet.

Did I enjoy it? Yes.
Did I side-eye him constantly? Also yes.
Did I put it down once I started? No.

This book works if you understand what you’re reading and don’t expect moral lessons. If you like morally grey men who are actually grey (borderline black), you’ll probably eat this up. If you need reassurance and emotional safety from your MMCs, this is not your book.

Okay first things first. The writing is absolutely incredible, I loved the writing style and Elsie is very talented! I think this isn't the typical book I would usually go for so I was a bit hesitant, but very pleasantly suprised with how lovely the writing style was <33 For the actual book I think the romance was a teense rushed and felt a tad instalovey, which is FINE, but I think I usually prefer romances that are more drawn out. I definitely think if the book were like 350 pages the romance would have hit better for me. Also the last 50 pages the couple was already together and it was just kind of them being happy which is cute, but I kinda thought there was going to be third act conflict, but other than that it was pretty perfect!

-𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓-
I think the plot was okay.. Not my FAVOURITE. I feel like I wasn't super invested and it got a little slow in the middle, but it was never really boring!

↪ I really liked Elena!! She was a really strong character and I related to her quite a bit. I liked how she fought for her rights and was always sure she wasn't being shrunk down by a man, and I like how she kept her last name <3

𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧
↪ Okay he was a bit of a manbaby at the start and kept on saying that he owned El (dude wtf?), but he had character development guys trust and was a good guy by the end 😼😼

-𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍-
I definitely recommend this book!! If you're looking for a cute fast paced, palate cleanser book I would definitely suggest reading it! Thank you again for the arc <33

I was kindly approached by Elsie on Instagram to read her debut novel, The Marriage Clause. I have so much respect for indie authors who self-publish and put themselves out there to connect directly with readers. The courage and dedication that takes is admirable, and as an avid reader, I’m always happy to support new authors.

This story follows Elena, a high-powered professional in the fashion industry who runs her own business in a largely male-dominated space. I absolutely loved this aspect of the book. Seeing a woman in a position of power, confidently navigating leadership and business, really resonated with me. That feminist angle was one of the strongest elements of the story.

When Elena is essentially forced into marriage due to pressure from someone on her company’s board, she takes matters into her own hands and proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement to Killian Thorne, a somewhat unpopular figure in the tech industry. I’m a big fan of the marriage-of-convenience trope, and I especially appreciated the twist that she is the one who initiates the proposal. That felt fresh and empowering.

Unfortunately, while the premise was strong and full of potential, the execution didn’t quite land for me. At under 200 pages, the book is a very quick and easy read, but the short length made the pacing feel rushed. I would have loved more character development and deeper emotional exploration. Conflicts arose and were resolved so quickly that there wasn’t enough time for tension to fully build or for the stakes to feel impactful.

Overall, this was a really interesting idea with a unique spin on a beloved trope. While it sadly missed the mark for me in terms of depth and emotional payoff, I genuinely admire the ambition behind it and look forward to seeing how Elsie grows as an author in future works.

A story of power, vulnerability, betrayal, trust, and love. I enjoyed reading A Marriage Clause by Elise Walton. The main characters, Killian and Elena, work well together. Two power dynamics, one using power to protect with control, and the other using power to win battles on their terms without help from any outsiders.

Their relationship begins as a marriage of convenience, beneficial to each of them for their own purposes. Elena needs to be married to remain CEO of her company per her father’s wishes, and Killian has wanted her ever since seeing her at the gala two years ago.

Both being huge power tyrants in the industry, there is no smooth sailing when fellow board members are surprised and angry that Elena married another big power mogul instead of someone on the board who asked for her hand.

Elena is threatened with attempts to harm her and destroy her company through fraud. Killian, who is used to taking over and immediately fixing situations, is told off by Elena to back off because she can fight her own battles.

The story ends in a happy-ever-after, but not until they go through many power struggles, extreme betrayals, and realize they can accomplish things together in a much more effective, successful way by working side by side, aiming for the same outcome.

A cute story that shows a female character living in what men believe is a man’s world. Yet the female character fights back, never giving in and never allowing the men to intimidate her with their threatening scare tactics. An enjoyable read that I recommend.

First of all, I want to thank the author for providing me with this Advanced Reader Copy (ARC).
I’ll be honest: this one wasn’t for me. Right from the jump, the story moved way too fast, and I found myself with more questions than answers. I actually had to force myself to finish it because I really don’t like to DNF (did not finish) an ARC, but it was a struggle.

The Logic Gap

The biggest issue for me was the main character's development. We are introduced to a female lead who is all about "female empowerment" and "women don't need men." Her whole mission is to eliminate the Clause to prove that point.

But then, the plot takes a weird turn:

She spends the whole time promoting herself as a strong, independent lead.
Literally a page later, she runs straight to the most powerful man she knows to help her fulfill the very Clause she’s fighting.
I get that she was trying to avoid the guy who was blackmailing her—I really do—but it felt totally backwards. It’s hard to buy into a "strong female lead" who has to immediately run to a man for help the second things get tough. It just didn't make sense to me.
Final Thoughts:
If you like fast-paced stories and don't mind some contradictions in character motivation, you might enjoy this, but the internal logic just didn't click for me.

Im not normally a romance reader but I do enjoy a heartfelt happily ever after so I thought when the Author reached out to me why not. I devoured this book sooo good.

Elena on her own was such a powerhouse and Killion a shark, but together they are formidable and cant be Broken.

I loved how it started out as a as an agreement to protect her but then it became so much more. They became an stronger entity together that was built from the ashes of her company that was being torn down from the inside.

I enjoyed that even though Killion was trying to protect her he still was able to see that she needed to save herself with his guidance. By letting her do this, she became more trusting of him and in return he earned her love instead of forcing it.

Such an amazing love story forged from betrayal, espionage and a mogul who was trying to bring her down just so he could control her.

Instead a true love story was formed and blossomed and built an empire from love

I really enjoyed this story about Elena and Killian. it was a great storyline. both are absolutely fierce when it comes to their companies. but a Clause has her seeking out a fake marriage scenario in order to keep it. enter Killian. he's floored when she asks him about this because he's been secretly harboring feelings for her.
I wanted to love this, but for me it fell short of character development and overall story. it was fast paced but really needed to be fleshed out more. this type of story deserves more pages than what it got.

First of all, I really want to thank the author for giving me an ARC. I'm very grateful. 😊

I admire Indie Authors — how they have to take care of most things themselves... I'm sure it's not easy.

That's why I have decided I won't rate, only review this book, so the author can see what I think she could have done better. 💕

~ | ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ 🤍 ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ | ~ |

~•° This book was pretty short — around 200 pages, so expect it to be fast paced. But still, there are a lot of things that I though could have been done better... °•~

Things I liked: • ° •

— • Strong women. Strong baddies are 💋. And this book is DEFINITELY one with a strong woman. Elena Sterling? Definitely. 😀 Also....arranged marriage...ahem... billionaire romance...ahem....gimme.

— • Killian....was okay. He was kind of annoying in the beginning, but then he got better. Kind of. I didn't like how he was trying to control Elena, but I guess it's all part of the story.

— • The whole plot was really interesting. Like I was very invested in the story in the beginning. I wanted to see how Richard's but would get kicked. But the way it was written could have been better

Things I didn't like: • ° •

1. As much as I like the story — the characters weren't very good. I mean, I liked that Elena was a baddie, but she didn't have any...depth. Like, we didn't get ANYTHING of her background, or her life or anything before Killian. I don't even know her age.

Same thing with Killian. We know literally NOTHING at all. ☹️ That way, it's harder to like/love (fall for) the characters....it also didn't help that he literally monitored Elena for two years... that's creepy. 😬

2. The word 'corrected' is used A LOT in this book. Even when you could have used 'added' or something like that.

3. Also, it felt kind of rushed. Like I said, it's a short book but suddenly, Elena falls in love with Killian because he prepared warm milk for her.

Uhm... 😭

4. Also, I didn't understand a lot of things. They were just talking about Data, and Silk and drones and I had to reread paragraphs to even understand what the author meant. Maybe break it down a bit, or try to make it easier to understand by not using so many 'hightech' words. (Ok, I know everyone understands silk and drones but you get what I mean.)

6. It didn't make sense that Elena knew that Killian didn't want to 'conquer' her. As far as I remember, he didn't mention it once. She even used the word conquer, EXACTLY the same thing that Killian thought some time ago. Huh?

Unless Elena can read minds...

7. Also, why is Killian randomly using weapons to shoot people?! Yes, he gives mob boss vibes 😎 but uhm... you're a CEO. You aren't supposed to be doing that. Especially when it's not a life or death situation...🥴

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆♡☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

What to expect: • ° •

•°~ billionaire romance
•°~ arranged marriage 💍
•°~ badass FMC 💅
•°~fast pace🍃

Spice 🌶️ • ° • I didn't really read it...but since it was only once and pretty short I would say: 1/1.5 🌶️

The author, Elise Walton, reached out to me a few months ago on Instagram about reading one of her books. I try to support as many indie authors as I can, so when I found some availability on my calendar I said yes. Honestly, I'm glad I said yes because who doesn't love a billionaire romance????

This story follows Elena Sterling (FMC), a powerful CEO of her families large fashion brand in NYC, as well as Killian Thorne (MMC), a thirty something billionaire whose reputation precedes him and a person who gets what he wants. When Elena finds out that in order to keep her company afloat she must marry, she reaches out to the only eligible man she knows that can help her take a board member (Vance) down. After signing a marriage contract, the two of them fight tooth and nail to not only keep Elena safe, but for Elena to keep her fashion brand. With forced proximity and high tension, is it fate for their attraction to rise?

This is one of those billionaire romance books that you just gobble up because you have to know what would happen next. It's a shorter book, around 200 pages, so the pacing is quick. It's honestly one of my favorite things when a man won't touch a woman because he wants her to come to him first, so props to Elise for that!! The tension was HIGH and I was loving it. I loved that they rewrote the contract towards the end and made it their own.

Since I work in Finance for my full time job, some of the logistics towards the end with the hostile takeover and share price seemed a bit far fetched, but if that wasn't my world, I would never know.

My only real critique was though the chapters alternated views, it was told in third person. I have a hard time reading third person at times, but that is totally a personal preference. That should not stop you from picking up the book!

Would I recommend? If you love billionaire romance, then this is a must!

Thanks Elise for the ARC.

The premise is super fun and right up the alley of what we love: a ruthless billionaire (Killian) spots the stunning, independent Elena at a gala, gets instantly obsessed (classic he-falls-first energy), and spends two years scheming to build enough power to “claim” her. He orchestrates a takeover of her fashion empire and offers the ultimate devil’s bargain—a contract marriage to save her company. Elena, fierce and determined to protect her legacy, has no choice but to sign on. Cue forced proximity, jealousy, corporate drama, a bit of suspense (break-in, reckoning), and that slow shift from fake to very real feelings.
The prologue is strong and atmospheric—Killian’s dark, possessive inner voice contrasts beautifully with Elena’s warmth, and the dual POV keeps things balanced.
That said, for me, it moved a bit too quickly in the beginning. We’re introduced to the characters and boom—they’re already in the thick of the takeover, bargain, contract signing, wedding photo op, and living together in his “golden cage” within the first handful of chapters. It felt like the tropes were checked off rapidly without enough breathing room for tension to really build organically or for us to sink into their dynamic before the big commitments hit.
Overall, it’s a solid, enjoyable escapist read with likable leads (Killian is a great morally grey alpha who softens, Elena is strong and relatable), engaging writing, and all the classic billionaire marriage-of-convenience tropes.

ARC Review — The Marriage Clause by Elise Walton

Thank you Elise for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Marriage Clause was an entertaining and engaging read, with a dynamic that really grew on me as the story progressed.
In the beginning, I did find myself slightly confused about the timeline, and the relationship development felt a bit rushed at first. I would have loved a little more space to fully settle into the transition between key moments. That said, once the story found its rhythm, I became much more invested.
Elena was definitely a highlight for me. I loved her strong personality and the way she carried herself throughout the story. She felt grounded and determined, which made her easy to root for 💪. Kilian, on the other hand, surprised me. He wasn’t nearly as ruthless or intimidating as he was initially portrayed, which added an interesting layer to his character. I do wish we had gotten more insight into his upbringing — understanding his background more deeply would have strengthened my emotional connection to him.
The second half of the book was where it truly shined for me. Their connection felt more natural and heartfelt, and I really enjoyed watching them build something rooted in strength, trust, and love.🥰 The emotional progression in this part felt more earned and satisfying.
Overall, this was a nicely written romance that delivered an enjoyable and heartfelt story. I’m looking forward to seeing what Elise Walton writes next.💖

The Marriage Clause is another hard-hitting, straight-to-the-point page-turner by Elise Walton.

Elena and Killian are fiercely passionate, successful businesspeople. They operate separate empires in a high-stakes world, until nasty industrial espionage puts Elena at risk of losing everything.

That brings her to Killian, and the marriage contract, which they enter into for deeply personal reasons - different reasons. She is using him to save her empire; he takes this opportunity to exert his control over her, the only way he knows how to have her - to own her.

A lot of morally-grey men in literature do not have Killian’s depth. His obsession with Elena reveals what lies beneath. His shell might be hard, but we glimpse the deeply passionate man he is, and the reader starts wanting more than a professional resolution for these two.

Together they are under attack in this story of revenge, anger, betrayal and, ultimately, love.

The Marriage Clause is a suspense thriller, with stunning people in a world of glamour and power, delivered through tight, fast-paced storytelling and fantastic descriptions like ‘the words rolled off his tongue with terrifying satisfaction’.

I loved these two. Elise Walton didn’t try to have us fall for her FMC and MMC by making them loveable; we come to love them through the exposure of their faults, strengths, decisions and authenticity.

Read The Marriage Clause to enjoy fantastic, rich descriptions; bold ideas; strong concepts; and nasty legal battles.
... And love.

I received an ARC of The Marriage Clause and I’m genuinely impressed by how layered this billionaire marriage-of-convenience romance turned out to be.
If you love:
• Strong FMC energy
• Morally gray but controlled MMC
• Corporate power dynamics
• Slow burn tension
• Marriage of convenience done right
— this one absolutely delivers.
Elena Sterling is not a heroine who waits to be saved. She’s sharp, strategic, and fiercely protective of what she built. Watching her navigate a male-dominated boardroom while entering a calculated marriage with Killian Thorne was compelling from the first chapter.
And Killian? He isn’t loud or reckless. He’s controlled. Precise. Strategic. The kind of billionaire hero who doesn’t raise his voice because he never needs to. The tension between his control and her refusal to bend created some of the most satisfying slow-burn moments I’ve read in contemporary romance.
What I loved most was the emotional shift. This isn’t insta-love. It’s gradual. It’s restrained. It feels earned.
The marriage-of-convenience trope is one of my favorites, and this book handles it with intelligence and intensity rather than fluff.
There’s obsession, strategy, autonomy, corporate warfare, and quiet vulnerability — without ever losing the balance of power between them.
If you enjoy authors who write powerful couples instead of rescue fantasies, I highly recommend this.

Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️

The Marriage Clause was not only an easy read, but it was an enjoyable read that just sucks you in. Elena is new to the relationship, Killian however, spotted her years before, and was ready and willing to do whatever it took to just stay in the same vicinity as her. So when Elena presents him with an opportunity to not just potentially take down someone he cannot stand, but be with her 24/7? Why in the WORLD would he pass that up?

Killian and Elena have this tension within their relationship that I swear you can feel just by reading the book. Not just that, you can imagine how the tension feels, but truly FEEL the tension. This book is a slow burn with minimal spice (in my opinion), but honestly, you don’t need the spice in this book. The plot is there. The story is there. The chemistry is there. The need to deny and fight feelings and emotions is there.

I also love that there are parts of this book that feel like they are open to your own interpretation. Whether that was intentional on Elise Walton’s part or not, I absolutely love it.

All in all, I very much enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to read more from you Elise! And thank you so much for trusting me to be one of your ARC readers.

This book delivers a sharp, high-stakes romance between two power players who refuse to be underestimated. Elena Sterling is fighting to keep control of a company she built in a world designed to doubt her. Surrounded by a board of old men who see her gender as weakness, she must outmaneuver both corporate enemies and internal sabotage to survive. Enter Killian Thorne—an efficiency-driven billionaire who came from nothing and deals only in certainties. Emotions are foreign territory to him, and relationships are just another form of leverage. When the object of his desire proposes a contract marriage for protection, he accepts with cold precision… but not without ulterior motives. What begins as a calculated deal turns into a battle of wills as attraction and trust complicate every rule they set. Elena’s resilience and Killian’s ruthless logic make them a lethal combination of wit and strength, especially as threats close in from all sides This story blends power, desire, and ambition into a romance where love is the one variable neither of them can fully control.

Book includes one mildly spicy scene.

the marriage clause is a sharp, high-stakes corporate romance that leans into power, strategy, and emotional restraint rather than over-the-top drama. if you love contract marriages with teeth, this one is perfect.

elena sterling is the kind of heroine i will always root for. she built her company from the ground up, and now she’s forced to defend it in rooms full of men who underestimate her simply because she’s a woman. her resilience isn’t loud for the sake of it. as for killian, he is a self-made billionaire who is emotionally guarded. he approaches relationships the same way he approaches business: strategically. when elena proposes a contract marriage for protection, he agrees, but not out of romance. out of advantage. and that’s where the real tension begins.

what i appreciated most was the dynamic between them. this wasn't instalove. it’s two dominant personalities circling each other, testing boundaries, rewriting terms. their chemistry builds through dialogue, negotiation, and subtle vulnerability rather than grand gestures. the battle of wills is the romance.

this was an arc review. i recieved a copy early in exchange for an honest review.

The Marriage Clause by Elise Walton presents a sharp, high-stakes romance between two formidable individuals who refuse to be sidelined. Elena Sterling is determined to protect the company she built from the ground up, navigating a corporate world that constantly questions her authority. With a board dominated by men who mistake her gender for a flaw, she’s forced to fight not only external threats but also quiet betrayals from within.

Enter Killian Thorne: a self-made billionaire driven by efficiency, certainty, and control. Emotion is a language he doesn’t speak and relationships to him are tools that are useful only when they serve a purpose. So when Elena proposes a marriage of convenience as a strategic shield, he agrees with calculated calm, though his reasons aren’t entirely transparent.

What starts as a mutually beneficial arrangement quickly becomes a contest of power, as attraction, mistrust, and vulnerability begin to interfere with the rules they set. Elena’s determination and Killian’s ruthless logic make them a dangerously effective pair, especially as pressure mounts from every direction.

Blending ambition, desire, and corporate warfare, this story explores a romance where control is currency and love is the one element neither of them can fully command. The Marriage Clause is a proof that sometimes, the heart rewrites every clause all on its own. 💍📖

The Marriage Clause had such an intriguing premise — two leaders, one fighting to save an empire and the other already in love. I was immediately drawn to the political undertones mixed with romance, and that tension carried the story beautifully in several chapters.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the main characters. Some scenes genuinely made me blush, and the emotional push-and-pull felt natural and engaging. The concept itself is strong and full of potential.

That said, I did feel like something more could have been added, perhaps deeper political conflict, stronger stakes, or an unexpected twist to elevate the intensity. The foundation was solid, but I wanted a little more depth to make it truly unforgettable.

Overall, a good read with an appealing concept and some lovely romantic moments. Thank you to the author for the ARC. I’m grateful for the opportunity to read and review.

This book completely surprised me. 👏
I expected a typical billionaire marriage-of-convenience story — what I got was layered, intense, and emotionally charged.
Killian isn’t just powerful — he’s obsessive, strategic, and quietly broken. The way he’s watched Elena for years before she ever steps into his office adds such a delicious undercurrent of tension. But what really hooked me were the subtle cracks in him — the warm milk at 3 AM, the quiet listening, the way he respects her intelligence even while trying to control everything else.🤗
Elena is equally compelling. She isn’t rescued. She chooses. She walks into the dragon’s lair fully aware of the cost. Her strength isn’t loud — it’s sharp and steady. ❤️
The chemistry is intense, but the emotional stakes are what make this story addictive. It’s not just about power. It’s about two people who are terrified of losing control and maybe even more terrified of falling in love. 😍🥰
I could not put this down.

ARC Review — The Marriage Clause by Elise Walton

This one completely delivered.

I’m a sucker for marriage-of-convenience, but this story took it to another level. The tension was constant — not loud or chaotic, but simmering under the surface in a way that made every interaction feel loaded. The “we’re only pretending” energy slowly shifting into something real? Absolutely addictive.

I loved how the emotional walls came down piece by piece. The chemistry felt natural, intense, and earned. Nothing felt rushed — the build-up made the payoff even more satisfying. By the end, I was fully invested and didn’t want to leave these characters.

This is the kind of romance that reminds you why you love the trope in the first place.

Read this if you love marriage-of-convenience, forced proximity, slow burn tension, emotional vulnerability, and chemistry that sneaks up on you before completely taking over.

If I could do half ratings ** hint hint Goodreads ** this would be 3.5 for me. Thank you, Elise, for the chance to read your story! I can't wait to see what you come out with in the future!

The story was good, and an overall great tension-built billionaire romance. I love a marriage of convenience and opposites attract trope. I also loved that the characters had more than one big obstacle to work through together to help strengthen the bond.

I think for me that one thing that kept bothering me was the timeline. The MCs kept referencing "this Friday" "on Friday" but then the next paragraph or beginning of the next chapter it would say it had been weeks. I also wish that the bonus scene material had been spread throughout the story. I feel like it would have helped build the relationship between the MCs even better. It felt like I was trying to guess what happened in each MCs past to understand why they were how they are now.

The marriage clause ARC REVIEW

At first, this book felt a little rushed and had me asking a lot of questions. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Killian and Elena’s relationship in the beginning—but wow, did that change. The deeper I got, the more everything clicked, and suddenly I was fully obsessed with both of them.

Killian might be labeled a “monster,” but the man has the softest cinnamon-roll side that exists solely for Elena, and I ate that up. The timeline jumps around a bit, but somehow it just works and makes the story even better. Together, Killian and Elena are pure power—strong individually, unstoppable as a pair.

"You don't extinguish me," she said firmly. "You ground me. You give me a base. You think I’m light? Maybe I am. But fire needs something to burn on, Killian. I need you."

This is the first book I've read by Elise Walton. I love supporting Indie authors. Sometimes you just need a quick short book and this is exactly that. I like to break up my reading from 500+ page books to 150-200page books.

Elana is a strong independent woman. However in order to keep her company she must get married or lose it all. But when Richard Vance suggests that she marry him and he'll run the company and let her keep all her money, she has other plans. She may have to get married, but she's picking the groom.

Killian first saw Elana two years ago, he wanted to better himself, so one day he could marry her. Imagine his surprise when she walks into his office and asks him to marry her so she can keep her company.

Killian is a powerhouse and people fear him, but when it comes to Elana she tames the beast in him.

The Marriage Clause is a short story and very fast paced plot. You don’t really get to ease into the characters or build up their persona and a LOT happens in a short amount of time!

💍Elena is a CEO of a fashion company and is ready to take on the world for her legacy but is blocked by Richard, pressuring her into marrying him or giving up her company. Either way she loses her control and is just a chess piece in the game of men. 💍

Killian is an easy choice to help her out of her predicament. He is attractive, has a common enemy of Richard and has been pining after Elena for years (not to her knowledge). 💰💵

Elena is a strong independent woman that wanted a partner not someone who would just makes decisions for her. She is powerful and stubborn to say the least. Her stubbornness fed the plot and kept my interest peaked.

Killian was hard to like right away. I could tell he meant well but man.. being hard as stone isn’t what power is about! Unless you don’t care about literally anyone!

I the relationship was very fast but it felt true to the characters and who they were as a powerhouse couple and as separate people. I did wish there was more to their story in general.

✨I would recommend this book to others for a short billionaire romance with some thriller mixed in. ✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for a short story.

Than you for the gifted copy!

I received this as an ARC — huge thank you to the author for trusting me with an early copy 💌✨ I will always show up for a marriage of convenience and this one absolutely delivered 💍🔥

Contract marriage? ✔️
He fell first? ✔️
Feral, protective husband energy? ✔️✔️✔️

The slow burn tension was SO good — especially watching him slowly lose his composure while she stayed cool and strategic. The “that’s my wife” energy was immaculate 🖤 Every time someone tried to step to Elena, you could feel him internally spiraling.

I loved the power couple vibes and the emotional build-up. He was down BAD early and it showed 😌

Only reason it’s 4 stars instead of 5? I personally wanted just a little more on-page bedroom tension once things finally shifted 👀🔥 I live for that payoff.

Overall: swoony, dramatic, protective husband core, and a marriage-of-convenience trope that absolutely hit.

Thank you Elise for the ARC. This is my honest review.

If you've been following me for a while you know two of my all time favorite tropes are marriage of convenience paired with an obsessive/possessive MMC. That combo is like peanut butter and jelly to me - absolute perfection!

When she has no where else to turn in order to save her company, Elena accepts Killian's marriage proposal. He has long been interested in her and immediately sets her up for protection from those who would do her and her company harm. As Elena tries to maintain her independence, those she thought were friends may not actually be on her side, and her domineering husband may actually be a secret softie!

This was a really quick, fast-paced read. The early pages absolutely read like something from an SJ Tilly Alliance novel with the obsessive/possessive vibes which I loved!

Im all for supporting indie authors,so a big thankyou to Elsie Walton for providing me with an ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This one is power packed and fast paced despite the short length. The opening lines drew me into this dark world of ruthless millionaires having shared secrets. The book opens with great metaphors, allusion to religion ( Red Sea,Moses),allusion to Icarus (comparing Elena to the sun).
The fmc Elena Sterling has to protect her empire by marraige because her board members think her gender is a weakness. She takes help from Killian Throne ( the name is apt for a milionaire btw) and they both enter a marraige of convenience.
His penthouse has neutral colors, everything firm, strict timings about staff and meals, making it a luxury fortress.
The catch is Killian had fallen for Elena when he first saw her at a ball 2 years ago. So her coming to his office for marraige was a win win situation for him. But gradually he let go of hi control to be the partner she wanted and deserved. Killian has qualities that would make every girl go weak in the knees : how he mase vanilla milk for her, watching silently while she sketched, always supporting of her career.
Elena wasn't a damsel in distress who needed to be saved but an iron lady in shining armour.
Eventually, two strong business minds enter a marraige of convenience to protect what they built falling in love all along.
