When a lightning strike on ancient Sioux holy ground sends mining engineer Kelsey Winter back in time to 1892 Wyoming, she turns to handsome, reckless cowboy Pete Jackson to help her find a way home.
Pete’s happy to help the strange woman in tight denim trousers, despite her odd, cautious ways, when he learns she can assist him with his newly discovered silver mine. But a deadly outlaw wants Pete’s silver, and a Sioux prophecy threatens Kelsey’s return home. Pete and Kelsey must find a way past their differences, and the century between them, if they, and their growing love, will survive.
Just in Time Cowboy is the first in the Lost Mine series of time travel romance novels by Jillie Rivers (each novel can be enjoyed as a standalone story): 1) Just in Time Cowboy (set in 2014) 2) Second Time Cowboy (set in 2015) 3) Never a Cowboy (set in 2016)
This is a well written time travel. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters were strong and well fleshed out. I disagree that the heroine was gullible, she was strong and feisty. I look forward to more from this author. Well recommended if you like time travel romances.
Exciting and romantic with a touch of time travel thrown in! What more could you ask for!?? Loved this story! I was going to just read a couple of chapters and sound up reading all night! It was just that good! Great read!
I liked the idea of this book but honestly the main character was a scared, temper tantrum, brat! She jumped to conclusions and acted more like a 13 yr old than. 32yr old. It took away from the story. Also, the Indians were fluent in perfect english??
Kelsey Winters a mining engineer in present day Mule Stop, Wyoming gets struck by lightning and is thrust back in time to 1892 to the old days of Mule Stop. She’s landed right smack in the middle of the prairie and into the hands of Pete Jackson. They spat, fight and try to avoid the inevitable in every romance, the big four letter word Love. Now Kelsey doesn’t just take to this time travel stuff, she’s a strong willed modern day woman and has a hard time believing and adjusting to her present where a bouts and situation.
Peter Jackson the son of a prominent New York banker is in Wyoming just being free and doing what He wants to do. This is the deal he made with his father before he returns to New York and picks up his position in the family bank. When a beautiful woman pretty much drops out of a thunderstorm, his life takes a whole different turn.
This all in all is a good book and it gets better the more you read it. I ended up liking the characters but not so much at first. The heroine at first to me just isn’t taking her situation as serious as you would think finding herself back in time by one hundred and twenty years. The hero, well he was followed by a bad reputation as a ladies’ man, but I just thought he was a jerk. But the story line is really good and the more I read the more I began to like the characters and the story line just kept getting deeper and deeper.
I did have a problem with the Indian tribe in the story. I really don’t think Indians back in 1892 especially those not on a reservation would have been able to read and speak a fluent English but this one did. The whole story is based on an old Indian prophecy that has been told down through the generations of the Indian tribe where they are awaiting ‘The Wise One’.
The story has its bad guys and the author does include some historical facts, now whether they are fictional I don’t know but it worked with the story. The editing is good, nothing popped at me while reading. In the end I liked the characters they were real and had real feelings and dreams of what they wanted out of life from the past into the present day.
I liked the way the author moved with the story it flows good with good sound story line and writing. I would most definitely recommend this book. Some will like it some will not but in my eyes it was a good book.
I’m only giving this book a four star rating mainly because of the historical facts of the Indians. This tribe was not on a reservation and according to the story had not really had contact with the people of the area. So how could they speak and read English? The cover is a four heart, I like it and I don’t.
I wanted to like this book, I so did. It came recommended and when I read the overview it sounded right up my alley. But alas, it was not. I'm not one of those readers who must finish every book. I got about 40 % done and it kept getting worse for me so I gave up. Let me count the ways it did not work
1. Pete wasn't a cowboy. There was no cowboying. He was more of a prospector. 2. I didn't like the name Pete. It was too cowboy ish sounding and he wasn't a cowboy. 3. Too many villains. Most books have two at most. This one had about five. 4. At one point Pete and the heroine whose name I can't remember and I read a few chapter today before skipping to the end to see what time they ended up, not that I cared really, but I had invested time, travel FIVE hours by horseback to a village. Now this was an Indian village and one would think the author would have pointed that fact out, but nope, she didn't. We just assume its an Indian village because they are meeting up with a friend of Pete's named Running Horse. Anyway, after riding FIVE hours to get to this village, the heroine, whose name I don't remember, wanted to take a quick rest and head home. That would be TEN hours on a horse in one day. Can we say stupid? 5. The hero kind of agreed to marry a woman picked by his father, one of the too many villains, that ole Pete had never even met. Um, no. Just no. 6. Another one of the too many villains, a female this one, had the hots for Pete and lied to the heroine, whose name I can't remember, that she and Joe had an 'understanding'. Now what was stupid is the villainess had come from a fairly well to do family back east but her father decided to move the family west. And now she's working as a maid in a boarding house. Why??? I don't know, it's not explained. 7. I felt no connection between hero and heroine. She thought he was handsome, he thought she was pretty. That's it. She didn't even really seem to like him.
There are other reasons, but that's just some of why this book didn't work for me and was even a DNF.
Time travel is one of my favorite genres. I mostly enjoyed this story; however, a heroine that constantly jumped to conclusions got a little tiring. The male lead showed more patience than anyone could expect! I liked the plot but thought both of them falling so deeply in love in a week was definitely fiction 😊 and was disappointed that the "list" that saved the day was not revealed. For the most part, if you want a fantasy, you will enjoy this story.
This was book one in the Lost mine series. Kelsey travels back in time and is expected to save a village. The story was good. I just was upset that no one cared about how Kelsey felt being thrown back in time they just wanted something from her and didn’t care. It drove me crazy but I did enjoy the ending.
Wow! What a fast paced adventure story. I just love it. From the very beginning, the drama, romance and comical adventures of Kelsey and Pete continues through out the story. I could picture the scenes as if I were there. I can’t wait to read the next book.
I loved this series although I wish I had read them in other. Beautifully descriptive language flows out stories with strong characters, saucy dialogue and exciting plots run through the whole series. Enjoy 💜
I really loved reading this book! It's a wonderful mix of old west, gold mines, outlaw gangs, time travel to the past, and finding love. Highly recommended for all those that enjoy western romances.
I chose a 5 star rating because of the thought, skill and that went into this story. I would recommend it to anyone who likes time travel, cowboys and romance.
This amazing time travel tale is one I could not put down. In this exciting well written adventure, Kelsey and Pete struggle to complete a Sioux Indian prophecy. All of the characters are carefully developed and placed within the story. Highly recommend reading.
The plot of this story was good or could have been however, it was very slow in parts. Wasn't sure I was going to get through this one but I didn't want to give up. The "detailed" sexual encounters were unnecessary and did not add to the storyline. I was pleased with the ending.
I liked the time travel and how the characters adapted to it. The plot was out of the ordinary and the characters well developed. Had to skip a few pages here and there but that didn’t detract from the story.
This book needs an editor SO BAD! Listen, I’m not a grammar Nazi. I am used to the level of skill expected of a self published Kindle unlimited book. But this one was hard to read and I found myself wanting to pull out a red pen and start marking. That’s not good.
I had a truly good time reading Kelsey and Pete's unconventional love story. The bickering between them never became stilted and their slow slide into a relationship together was much nicer than the pair falling instantly into bed because of overwhelming chemistry, which they had in spades from day one.
The time travel aspect if one of my favorites and it did not disappoint me how Kelsey was sent to 1892 from her actual time of 2014, what did come as a surprise is how long she was gone in compared to how long it appeared to her coworkers when she came back.
Pete Jackson was a nice western hero to offset the modern day heroine that Kelsey found herself having to fill the role of, when all is said and done both of them came through their ordeals with admirable courage as well as quick use of their wits when needed.
I thought this first book wrapped up nicely so it could actually be considered a stand alone, even though it obviously set things up for continuing adventures in the series.
To me, this book had a nice combination of decent writing, entertaining characters, and a nice plot-line. I really liked the fact that in this time travel romance, the h, who sudden gets thrown back in time, does not just immediate accept her circumstances, but has to struggle to come to terms with what has happened. The H is a good alpha male lead, and the h was strong-willed, smart, and, I feel, acted "real" given her position. There is instant chemistry with the H, but not instant love, which is nice. There are even a few parts where they are down right mean with each other. The action/suspense parts kept the story moving well. I felt it kind of ended a little abruptly, and I wish there was an epilogue. I still really enjoyed it.
This one was okay reading. The time travel premise was well done and I liked both main characters. I got a little bored with the talk about the 'prophesy' which to me didn't really make much sense. But I stuck with it. Not too bad a read.
