Sienna’s sister arrives home unexpectantly. During a typical Vampire Beach party, she receives an odd delivery. She then talks the whole gang into going to Las Vegas with her, but trouble follows and they get caught up in a high stakes poker game with a member of one the vampire’s first families.
While a lot of fun this story had a lot of basic errors. First off, supposing Belle is working on getting Adam to be less of a geek, but most of the time she seems to just be encouraging it. He also wanders off a lot, getting into trouble and disappearing just when they have other things to worry about.
When Paige appears, though we haven’t met her before, her being upset by something seems a little too obvious. You would think her friends would notice before Jason did.
The ‘50’s’ seem like an odd choice of ‘theme’ for the party. It’s a cocktail party, but we could have used more details. Like why the drink choice? I get the ‘blood’ part, but other that a brief thought in Jason’s mind we don’t get anything, so why have it even there. Unless that’s supposed to be the ‘odd’ food item that occurs in each book.
For a major hotel in Las Vegas, I was not very impressed. They only have 2 penthouse suites which didn’t feel large enough to be the best the hotel had to offer. The security was very lax. There shouldn’t have been any cameras aimed at the player’s hands during the game and the security room should never have been that empty or that easy to get into. Belle pretending to be the hotel manager to get the suitcases, while interesting, was way too easy.
The airport security was a lot better, though I don’t quite get how security found the stuff in their luggage while Marc and Paige still had it. You usually don’t carry that much luggage through the security line.
Fave scene: Marc getting arrested.
